  1. Heya. Here is the OOC for this: link. For now the heroes only have the interrupted newsfeed as a clue of what was going on. We can start with an introduction with them approaching the scene, and maybe if they want to research things a little in advance. The research lab is an isolated facility a few miles south of the city. It is privately owned and so far it has been pretty unremarkable. Although, if anyone is interested in making some investigation before getting on the scene let me know and toss a roll here of a relevant skill and I'll provide you with more infos if needed. @Exaccus @RocketLord @Tiffany Korta @Heritage @EternalPhoenix I'll add your character to the tags once we have done the first post. Since we have a lot of people, I was thinking, if it's fine for you, once we get into some combat, what if we set a 4 days limit to post an action? To keep things moving.
  2. Southside, Route 6. HoN&Y Research Facility. 11 AM. "It seems like the lab has been engulfed by wax-like structures. It's incredible Kent." The journalist stared at the camera, her voice almost drowned by the incessant buzzing that had engulfed the small private research facility. "Freedom City PD had blocked the main road to the laboratory, but so far we don't have any information of what might have been transpiring inside." The man continued, as the camera panned toward a small army of cops, that were trying to do their best to keep a crowd of people away from the chain link fence that blocked the road leading to the laboratory itself. The structure, a simple tree story cement building, as the journalist had just described was almost encased in strange towers made of a wax-like substance and surrounded by what looked like swarms insects. "Hey! Are you seeing those?" Suddenly, four large objects emerged from the facility. "They are like? Robotic bees..." Indeed they were, pony-sized replicas of metallic bees, impressively detailed and surrounded by a small swarm of more traditionally sized drones. They flew at a speed that vastly surpassed the one of their natural counterpart. "They are headed toward us... They are... They are..." The image of the reporter was replaced by buzzing static. Although, with some effort, one could almost hear a chorus of voices underneath all the droning. "What was. Will Bee."
  3. ROCKET Atomic Tower, Midtown, Freedom City Early March 2021 The Atomic Tower towered in the Freedom City skyline. After its recent expansion, it seemed almost like it stretched into the clouds, which it just might do. A modern marvel of super science, it held the newly opened Atom Academy, the Atom Family's newest gift to the city, inviting scientists, explorers, heroes and just curious regular people to join, to explore everything and anything! Jay was late. Of course he was late. You'd think having super speed would have helped with that, but no. It just meant he had more time to do a ton of things and forget about appointments. He was a streak of black and grey moving through the city, running and rushing past everything. Black pants, running shoes, a grey jacket, currently hanging open to reveal his favorite white T-Shirt with a big black rocket on the front until. He finally came to a stop right in front of Atomic Tower, a gust of wind catching up to him, his blonde hair a mess from the run as he stumbled a step or two to regain his footing and almost tumbled into the woman that was standing there before catching himself and moving around her in the blink of an eye. "Sorry, sorry! Stopping's not always easy!"
  4. OOC for this. @Tiffany Korta let's see some initiative!
  5. Bee Power Level: 10/12 (180/203PP) Unspent Power Points: 23 Trade-Offs: +2 Defense / -2 Toughness In Brief: Tiny hero, big heart! Catchphrase: "We'll beat it with Science!" Theme: The Bee Song, by Arthur Askey Alternate Identity: Melissa Bowles (Secret) Birthplace: Bayview, Freedom City Residence: FCU Dorms Base of Operations: Freedon City University Occupation: Student Affiliations: Bee-Keeper III Family: Jeremy Bowles (Father), Elsa Bowles (Mother), Megan Bowles (Older Sister), Baxter Bowles (Uncle) Description: Age: 18 (DoB: 4th January 2000) Gender: Female Ethnicity: African-American Height: 5'4", 3" when Shrunk Weight: 130lbs Eyes: Brown Hair: Brown With a whirling of limbs and a flurry of almost constant activity, Melissa seems to take up more space than her diminutive height suggest. She's always dressed in a colourful array of clothing that suggested that she dressed in a hurry, which to be fair if quite often has what happened. She tends to prefer bright colors and bold designs and with a predominance of yellow, it can be difficult to tell when she is or not in her costume. Her costume is of cause the yellow and black stripes traditionally associated with bee's, even if the yellow is a lot lighter than found in nature. Sunny like my disposition Melina likes to say about the choice. Her head is covered by a mask complete with fake antennas and compound eye to complete the bee theme. The entire costume was designed and built by her uncle, with Melina's continuous input. History The Baxter family has always had a creative flare in whatever subject they choose to pursuit, as well as a massive streak of eccentricity to go along with there potential genius. The most famous for this was of cause Barry Bowles, the second villainous Bee-Keeper, but the rest of the family was just as full of potential. Her main fascination was the newly described Dyne particles a catalyst that caused matter to shrink whilst retaining its mass and form, though no one had solved the problem of the electromagnetic energies generated by the compression. Melissa's idea was to form it into polymers to both allow it to be placed around the item and to channel the electrical field. Someone must have agreed as one fateful night when she finally got the Dyne polymer into a stable form. Working late in the school's lab the shockwave from an explosion set off somewhere nearby shattered the container with the Dyne mixture covering her in the liquid, in that moment Melina discovered that her polymer worked as she suddenly shrunk down. Which was lucky for her as it allowed her to survive the mysterious explosion. Melina had never considered being a hero until the moment she gained these powers, but now she didn't know where to start. She knew her parents would freak if they found out so instead, she went to her uncle Baxter. In a fluke of fate, it turned out that her uncle was actually the hero Bee-Keeper III who agreed to help her explore her powers, creating a way to store the power her shrunk body generated to work a pair of suitably sized wings. Before she became a hero though he insisted that she finish off her education, though she was sure he wouldn't mind if she snuck out to fight crime every now and again... Personality & Motivation: Melissa is upbeat and optimistic person always seeing the best in everyone and everything around her. This can come across as overconfidence as she throws herself boldly into any situation as she's sure things will sort themselves out. Not that things won't sort themselves out without some kind of help, which is why she wants to become a hero and help people. Though it can be a little difficult to tell as she tends to be a bit of a scatterbrain with about half a dozen different ideas floating around her head at any one time. Powers & Tactics: Bee tends to throw herself into action without any apparent rhyme or reason, her desire to help out overcomes semblance of tactics. She's not so foolish to throw herself at impossible odd though, even she realises that there are times when fighting is not the answer. When fighting she will try to solve the problem put in front of her using all her vast scientific knowledge, often in very unorthodox ways. Power Descriptions: Melissa has infused her body with her own custom designed Dyne molecules that allows her to compress her own body to the size of around 3 inches tall, as she retains all her molecules she retains her mass and physical strength. The change in height creates a massive electrical field, a side effect of the molecular compression, that she stores using as a form of attack and to power her wings. Complications: Busy little Bee: Melissa always has a half dozen thing going on at one time, with a few more waiting in wings. This sometimes distracts her from other things, including those that others consider important like sleeping and eating. Bee Curious: Melissa can't stand a mystery and has to know the solution at almost any cost, which sometimes leads to her poking her nose into things best left alone. Bee Quiet: Heroes are meant to be ultra super secret about there identities right, but it's so cool are really difficult not to tell. 7. GM FCU June 10, 2019, 2am Maggie Rayburn was pulling a late night again. Internally, she chastised herself for leaving her paper to the last minute, but for some reason someone always seemed to be throwing a party on the nights she planned to work. Now, she had burned through her last extension and found herself staring at her laptop screen, trying to summon up the will to finish on time. She sighed, watching the cursor blink, and rubbed her temples. She could feel a headache brewing. Her eyes drifted down to the clock on her taskbar. 2am. Maybe a mocha would give her the energy she needed. She rolled her chair back from her desk and stood up. She looked down at her stained sweatpants, and wondered if she should change. Nah. She moved over to her desk and grabbed her wallet and keys, before cramming her feet in her high-tops and headed out the door. There had been talks of attacks at night around campus, but the parking lot wasn’t far and besides, Maggie had a can of mace so severe you could use it to blind a bear. Still, as she stepped out into the night air, she couldn’t help but feel a thrill of fear run up her spine. She steeled herself, reminding herself that if she was scared now, Professor Xiu was infinitely scarier. She needed this coffee. She resolved to simply walk briskly, just in case. By the time she made it to the warm halogen glow of the parking lot, Maggie was sighing relief. She made her way to her car, laughing at herself for worrying at all. Yet as she went to slide her key into the car door, she felt a sudden pulse like frozen electricity through her body. She froze, her body unable to move except for the most minimal twitches and jerks as something gripped her from within her mind. She tried to scream, but her lungs and throat refused to cooperate. She could not so much as move her eyes, leaving her view locked onto her car door windshield, and the reflection of the figure that approved behind her. The distorted image was humanoid, a black shape with great white spheres for eyes. She could see it extending its hand out to her, and once more she tried to struggle, to move, to do anything. But she could not. She felt tears come unbidden to her eyes as the figure extended its hand, and laid its icy cold fingertips on her forehead. Somewhere in the bowels of her mind, Maggie could swore she heard something speak. “What a waste of a mind, Ms. Rayburn…” Then, there was another jolt through her, and Maggie felt everything go blurry. -- Zeb Simms sipped his coffee, feet up on the front security desk. Overnights paid well, but they were almost unbearably boring. If he wasn’t saving up for that new boat, he'd probably take a new shift entirely. Still, at the very least, it was usually pretty peaceful aside from the occasional too-young-to-drink-but-drunk-anyway college kid. His peace was disturbed, however, by a banging on the door. Zeb looked up from his coffee to see a pretty little blonde girl just going at it on the glass door. Her face was red, and it looked like she was crying. Immediately, Zeb mind raced to the worst and he immediately got up off his butt and rushed to the door, unlocking it and swinging it open. He didn’t even have time to ask what was wrong before the girl threw herself forward, wrapping her arms around him, burying her face deep into his shirt and sobbing. Rather than try and stop her, Zeb simply let her hold him and cry it out. Finally, after an uncomfortable few minutes, the girl looked up at him, sniffling and snorting. “I-I can’ read what's on the door… I… I used bu' I can anymo'…” she moaned. Zeb blinked, then looked over at the door. In bright, friendly letters were the words “FCU Building C”. He looked down at the girl, confused for a moment. Then a horrible realization rolled over him like a wave. “Oh, no, honey,” he said softly. “Oh I am so sorry…” He pulled his radio free from his hip, and called in. “Yeah, uhm... I got a report… Uh… damn. We got another one.”
  8. Freedom Aquarium - 9:00 a.m., Tuesday It is a fine day on the Waterfront. Bright, sunny, and with just a hint of fluffy clouds in a warm blue sky, it was a safe day to leave the umbrella at home. A crowd unusual for a weekday mills about around the shops and ice cream stands, taking advantage of the cool - yet pleasant, for this time of year - weather. Many of these people are already lined up outside the Freedom Aquarium minutes before opening, eager to see a brand new exhibit featuring rare and deep sea specimens from the coasts of Japan and Korea. Most of the fish to be on display have never been featured alive for the general populace before, and a few are new species only discovered some months ago. The ticket booths are already running, trying to get ahead of the forming crowd of eager locals and tourists alike, and failing. As the front doors open a cheer ripples through the crowd, and the line drips forward slowly by steadily. Meanwhile, a few school buses pull into the parking lot nearby, all carrying schoolkids on a unique field trip and their just-as-excited chaperones. As people filter into the aquarium, some make a bee-line straight to the new exhibit, while some meander through the older exhibits, patient to save the best for last. A dark interior of gently winding hallways and dim lamps weave through massive glass cases filled with millions of pounds of water and entire ecosystems of exotic fish and other aquatic flora and fauna. A low hum of banter intertwined with the occasional screech of a small child rises to fill the air, and smartly dressed tour guides enthusiastically start to lead throngs of patrons through the corridors, facts and trivia falling from their lips to land on the ears of an enthralled crowd. Then, starting from the front, and slowly inching its way back all the way out the front doors, travelling past the ticket booths and even into the parking lot, haunting and hushed whispers wash over the atmosphere. Rumors of something gone wrong spread, hands cover mouths, and eyes go wide in confusion and concern. From the newly opened exhibit, several adults retreat, one ushering out two small, confused and irate children. Shortly after, employees close off the new exhibit, its grand opening lasting less than a few minutes. One tells another to call the police not quite quietly enough to avoid a few patrons from overhearing. The whispers ripple through the crowd again, rumors that the tanks featured no fish, no living things... nothing but blood-red water. __________________________________________ Forever Boy If it weren't for his physical build, Pan might have just fit in with the school kids. The Aquarium wasn't much, but on some of the more boring days, you take all the adventure you can get, even the small ones. Besides, sometimes one just needs to relax a little. Never-before-seen fish? Having been on Earth as long as he has, Pan knows that they either won't be half as strange as some of the creatures from Neverworld, or they will be incredible, horrifying monstrosities he could never have dreamed of. Slipping through the crowd to the front, however, the trickster is met with something truly unexpected... no fish at all. In fact, all he can see before employees begin trying to usher him and the others out of the exhibit are a lot of empty tanks with red water in them... save for one tank. In this one tank remains a lone fish. It is small and slight, barely as long as his hand, and its scales glimmer all the colors of the rainbow, and shinier than pixie dust. __________________________________________ Queenie Being an "unmasked" hero has its perks, although Maybelle may not enjoy all of them. She didn't arrive early like some folks, but as soon as a few people recognized her, the crowds parted like the Biblical Red Sea. Locals pulled out cell phones and began snapping photos and taking videos, some folks asked for an autograph. Maybe it was just because when she was cooking, she didn't have much time - or perhaps patience - to deal with autographs. Maybe it was just a novelty to see her outside of the diner. Either way, right now, she is being treated like a celebrity, and shuffled up to the front of the lines. Not that all that did much in the end. All it meant was Maybelle was one of the first to see the new exhibit close down. Two steps inside and all she sees are tanks filled with red... and it doesn't take an expert chef whose fillet thousands of fish to guess what kind of red it is. Only one critter remains... a small, slight dartfish, its body barely as long as her hand, but glimmering like a rainbow. __________________________________________ Delta What a day to pick a clandestine meeting. Delta had been expecting a small crowd... someplace public, sure. But this... this was ridiculous. How was he supposed to blend in? Was his "anonymous informant" having a laugh? It seemed like a lot of trouble to drop coded messages and spend days picking a time and place to meet just to play a stupid prank. Still, his informant was nowhere in sight. Perhaps it had been foolish of Delta to trust a man (or maybe a woman. Delta didn't even know that much!) whose only claim was "I know someone who can tell you more about your past." As the minutes pass, the threat of a trap grows ever more ominous, but that trap never springs. However, a wave of unrest ripples through the crowds of people. Something about the new exhibit... something about everything being dead. A glance over his shoulder reveals what all the other glances have revealed: nothing. No informant. So far, Delta's only lead - if there even was one to begin with - lies with what has happened here at the Aquarium. After all... it might not be a coincidence that he just happened to be lured here at the precise time to witness all this unfold. __________________________________________ Bee Melissa is one of the first in line for the aquarium. Most people were here to see pretty fish. However, unlike most, Melissa is just as interested in the science behind it. The only reason half of the new specimens were on display was because of some fascinating technology. First, deep sea submersibles with the capability of capturing specimens had to be built and installed with a pressure chamber. Without the chamber, any organism from too deep would die from the journey up to the surface, as their internal body pressure became too great for the atmosphere around it. Next, those chambers had to be transported and seamlessly emptied into equally pressurized tanks, the very same tanks the Aquarium had spent millions installing. Through a very careful process and a series of airlocks, the specimens were introduced into their new homes here in Freedom City. Finally, to maintain the ecosystem in the tanks, automated maintenance robots were installed to monitor and clean the tanks as needed. After all, the less need to open the tanks or introduce a human element, the less risk of human error, or mechanical failure resulting in the untimely death of the new residents. All of that effort seemed to be wasted, as Melissa found out as she reached the exhibit. Nothing remains, save for the dark red tendril stains slowly diffusing and mixing with the water.
  9. Eclipse Nightclub, Southside, Freedom City After Midnight, 10th November 2018 There was always the newest way to take away the pain of the world, but in a place like Freedom City, many also looked for that extra thrill of having powers for the night. The newest drug to hit the streets that were being called Demons Blood. From the little known it seemed to make them more powerful, and bestial, with a distinctly demonic tinge to them. Drunk with the power they'd caused havoc and mayhem, and for the unfortunate few they'd burst into hellfire. With it association what better place to try and find this still rare drug at a metal night at the Eclipse Club.
  10. The Bowles Household, Bayview, Freedom City 4th September 2018, around 10 am Tomorrow was the big day when classes started at Freedom City University and it probably wasn't the best day to try and move into Dorms, but the Summer had been pretty challenging for a variety of reasons. So it would be sensible to be up and ready to start moving all of the stuff down to North End in the heart of Freedom City. This wasn't the case with Melissa, however, who right now was face down, fully dressed snoring away. She'd meant to get an early night but had begun working on new chemical improvements, with her notes scattered around her sleeping form.
