Greetings denizens of Freedom! Cabo, Pulsar and myself were discussimg doing a thread together; I wanted to have Shrike have some solo mission time and meet fellow newbies, and the new guys were eager fir more posting opportunities. My original idea revolved a casino heist on the Boardwalk, and I was gonna run it, but with school gearing up my time will be limited. Anyone interested in running such a thread?

The Boardwalk South Freedom City Friday, June 26, 2015 5:32pm The afternoon was hot and sunny; with the summer solstice just a week past, the days were long and the skies clear and even very nearly blue on this particular day. The height of the sun above the horizon made it feel like mid-afternoon instead of nearly evening, and the throngs of tourists and locals both enjoying the glitz and pageantry of the Boardwalk district were taking full advantage of it. Only blocks away the streets were starting to snarl with rush-hour traffic, filled with hot, tired commuters just getting off a long day's work and looking forward to getting home, but here the atmosphere was much more relaxed, and the temperature was even mitigated somewhat by the presence of the river to the north, flowing along blue-green and silent. There was much to do for all sorts on the Boardwalk, from drinking and gambling for those of legal age, to walks by the river, tourist-watching, or even a little illicit pick-pocketing for those unable to slip past casino security.

August 1, 2015 Shreveport, LA Argonaut and Pulsar got the message a couple of days ago - inviting them to meet Detective Samuel Winters at a murder scene in Shreveport, Louisiana. The murder took place in Apartment #404 in the Venture Arms, an impoverished part of a city that's not very wealthy at all. The Venture is located close enough to Barksdale Air Force Base that the airmen come here to buy cheap liquor and maybe gamble away from the watchful eyes of MPS - but it's not really important enough for the city to devote a lot of attention to. The Venture, a squat, four-story building is just off the exit from Interstate 20 by the base, is one of the largest buildings in a neighborhood of chain gas stations, convenience stores with lottery tickets, and pool halls. A week ago, on July 23, local resident Vincent Sabatelli strangled his girlfriend Carla Bell to death. Shreveport PD got a full confession - Sabatelli, angry but obviously remorseful, said he strangled his girlfriend to death when she wouldn't stop laughing at him. It would normally be an open-and-shut case. Except - the day after the murder, Satanic Panic, the Southeast's most famous glam/death metal band, rented the apartment just below Sabatelli's to record for their latest album. This isn't too strange; Satanic Panic is something of a vulture when it comes to real-life crime and murder - they've recorded near Littleton High School, the 9/11 Memorial, and other scenes of carnage and mass killing. (No mainstream distributor would touch them, but they have a massive Internet following). However; Satanic Panic's manager, one Richard Little, called the building's owner and reserved the apartment the day _before_ the murder took place. Winters wants to investigate - but his sergeant isn't interested. After all, they have a signed, videotaped confession from the killer. Why look further? So Winters has contacted AEGIS - going in two directions. One message has gone to the nearest AEGIS office in New Orleans. which has wound up getting forwarded to Freedom City because people in Freedom City tend to deal with the rough stuff. Argonaut will need to be careful operating in Shreveport, a city with a bad institutional relationship with AEGIS, but she does technically have jurisdiction there. Another message went out to the man who gave Sam Winters his favorable attitude about AEGIS - Pulsar, who once had a perfectly fine mission in Shreveport about five years ago blasting swamp creatures attacking the city alongside Shreveport PD Officer Sam Winters. He was a little surprised to hear Pulsar was no longer with the agency, but still gave him all the vital information he needed. It's late on the night of August 1, and hot and sticky in Shreveport, enough to make even some superhumans sweat. There's traffic on the freeway tonight, and from the sidewalk in front of the Venture Arms one can see the cars backed up all the way to the last exit, and the emergency lights from a nearby roadblock. Somebody's not having a good night up there.

Wading Way 10:00 16th June 2015 It was a warm but overcast day and Freedom City was getting on with the important business of getting things done. But being Freedom City things never seem to be able to happen without supers getting involved. And with a flash of anti-light and the smell of sulphur someone who looks like he’s come from a fantasy film or video game, staff and all, appears in the middle of the road which would be dangerous to him if it wasn’t for the two large demon flanking him. With words in a strange language he gestures to an Armored Car stuck in traffic and the two demon make their way through the traffic to do his bidding. Just another normal day in Freedom City.

As he matured into adulthood, Jake’s frame filled out with several dozen pounds of pure muscle and he eventually reached six feet tall. He often wears clothes that hide just how athletic he really is. He eventually took to wearing a nerdish pair of glasses in the hopes of looking more stylish. Power Descriptions: His unique physiology constantly absorbs ultraviolet radiation and converts it into pure energy. The radiation also allows him to fly at high speeds without the major effects of gravity. The energy also gives him enhanced strength, and durability. History: Jake Manning was raised in an abusive home; his father was a drunk who often took out his bitterness on his wife and son. When he was seventeen years old, his powers began to emerge. After high school his father tried to attack him, he accidentally blasted him through a wall crippling him to the point that he ended up in a coma from his injuries. Jake was so afraid that he ran away from home. He was eventually found by the government and they offer an opportunity to fight for his country. He was taken to a special facility where he was trained to use his abilities and became an agent to work on black ops missions. Jake was a natural agent and a quick learner. By the time he was he was one of the best at stealth, information gathering and observing people without them noticing. Under examination the scientist informed him that his powers allowed him to absorb ultraviolet radiation. The radiation is then converted into energy, allowing him to flight, superhuman strength and fire energy bolts. After years of working for AEGIS, he grew tired of the grind. Eventually he left the government when he was twenty-three after a mission went bad and he was force to kill a lot of people. Something he never wanted to do. Moving to Freedom City, he roomed with Daniel Cruz, who was studying art. Together they became friends and a writing team. Together they both wrote for their college’s paper, The Aegean. Jake influenced Sam into writing him into more human interest stories. Together they created a comic strip called ‘Nightowl and The Sparrow’. One day Sam spotted Jake using his powers, he encouraged him to use his powers for the greater good. While he did help people he made sure to keep his identity a secret. Those were fun times couldn’t last forever, eventually went their separate ways. Jake graduated with degrees in Political Science and Journalism. He worked for a couple of different publications before landing a job at World Magazine. While at work he’s virtually invisible, few notice him, which is something he doesn’t mind since he gets more work done without people bothering him. His friend Daniel went on to become a professional cartoonist, and they lost touch for several years. Eventually the pair recently met back up again at a convention. With Daniel changed into a woman, she told him that she had transition into a woman and was going by Michelle Ross. Something she had been dealing with since her childhood. Michelle encouraged Jake to do more and be more active, which is something he took to heart. Now he fights crime as Pulsar trying help people to the fullest of his abilities. Personality & Motivation: In his everyday life Jake tends to be a bit of a social misfit, fading into the background, that he often goes unnoticed, though that’s mostly just calling back to his blackops training. Though most of the women he interacts with do notice his rather good looks. While in college he was the same, except he was noticed by his roommate Samuel Ross. Who drew him out of his comfort zone and helped him socialize better. When he is called on to socialize he can be a pretty easy going guy that tries to sees the good in everyone. Powers & Tactics: A man with military training, his first instinct is to get people to safety. Calling back to his training, Pulsar likes to his opponents hard and fast to avoid collateral damage. With his powerset he can hit his enemies hard with either his fist or a well directed energy blast with his eye beams. If he has to retreat he will make sure to get as many people to safety as possible before. He fights to protect people, and his first priority is to shield people and his second instinct is to get rid of whoever is putting the people in danger. As a young man he struggled to control his powers, so now he always thinks before he fights, a military minded young man. He knows his moves can do some real damage. Complications: Redemption: Jake wants redemption for the lives he took during his finale mission.
