Sunday February 18, 2024 Late afternoon After over a day and a half of fun in the water and sun at the Harrow estate on Wakaya Island, Fiji (in addition to some more serious topics), it was unfortunately time for the Claremont Academy students to return back to Freedom City for the start of the next school week. After about an hour or so of chaos, everyone was eventually gathered back on the large deck at the back of the main house for Lawrence Harrow to teleport them all back to campus. As the group of teens stepped into the temporal portal Lawrence created once again, they initially felt a similar sensation to what they had the day before when transported to the South Pacific. But suddenly, rather than stepping out the other side of the portal back at the Main Quad at Claremont, the teens felt as if something tugged on them, causing each to stumble forward and as the world reformed around them and they were not at Claremont Academy. Bernadette O'Connell, Neko Musume, Owain Celliwig, Rosalinda Sommaripa, Jonah Janse, Carmen Alvarez Arrache and Iris and Daniel Evans found themselves along the waterfront of the Boardwalk, just near the Paradise casino. Around them were several people, all of whom acted very surprised at the sudden appearance of the teens, some screaming in panic and running, while others just began moving away quickly. The teens were still in the clothes they had been wearing, but all the rest of their bags and other things were nowhere to be seen. The sun was just coming into view off to the east, but the weather was far warmer than it should have been for an early morning in February for Freedom City. "What ta bloody hell." Bernadette stated as she reoriented herself to the unexpected location the group found themselves in. Glancing around, she scowled. "Where are the others?" The Irish redhead was wearing a pair of torn black jeans and a grey hoodie, in anticipation of ending up back up in the winter weather back in Freedom City. But her scowl was quickly replaced by a look of surprise as she looked out at the skyline of downtown Freedom City. It was clearly Freedom City, only the skyline was very different than the teens were used to. Several prominent more modern buildings were not there. And glancing down the east, the massive Sentry Statute was nowhere to be seen. "Oh, bugger us." Bernadette muttered as she looked out at the very different city skyline.

Claremont Academy Freedom City, New Jersey December 1, 2023, 3:05 PM The last class of the day came to an end for this Friday, welcoming in the weekend. Of course, the students at Claremont Academy had finals looming in the coming weeks, so for many the weekend would hardly be a break. As if that were not enough, the headmistress of the school had suddenly sent word the night before for students to wear the school uniforms for the day, a directive that most of the students had followed at least. Rosalind Sommaripa, Jonah Janse, Bernadette O'Connell, Neko Musume and Owain Jones, where among a throng of other students making their way through the halls of one of the main buildings off the quad. Around them was the typical excited chatter of students, happy to be done with classes for the day. As the group of students exited the building, there was a flash of white light, and the five teens found themselves standing in a wooded area with a light dusting of snow on the ground. They were still dressed in the clothes they had been wearing that day (which in Bernadette's case was a grey and black plaid skirt, and a white dress shirt over which she had a navy blue sweater with the Claremont crest on the left breast), but their bookbags were gone. Up ahead was a stone wall, which at first glance appeared to part of the walls that surrounded the Claremont campus, only, it was much taller. In addition, at a corner of the wall was a tall thin wooden tower that rose up above a stone base. The design of the tower was a clearly Japanese style, with multiple peaks and roofs, likely of the Edo period. As the five teens were taking in their surroundings, a male figure appeared off to one side. "Greetings great warriors, you have a most important mission before you!" The man appeared to be in his early thirties, and was dressed in a traditional men’s kimono of black and white materials, again looking as if it was from centuries ago. However, the man was Caucasian, with blond hair and an impish, childlike grin on his face. "Before you is the fortress of the evil Lord Yamamori, who has kidnaped the Shogun's daughter." The man continued, and as he did, the five teens seemed to leave their bodies as they experienced a bird's-eye-view of what was beyond the wall in front of them. At first glance, it resembled the Claremont grounds, only things were vastly changed. Just on the other side of the wall in front of them, was the area that would have been the athletic fields, only, it had been replaced by what appeared to be a military parade field, with several outlying buildings that appeared to be barracks. Beyond that was another wall, with a gatehouse, which lead to what should have been the faculty residence and the two dorm buildings, but had been replaced by more Japanses fortifications and buildings. The low wall that sounded the gardens at Claremont was still there, only the gardens were vastly expanded, and exclusively of a Japanses style. And beyond that, where the main quad should have been, sat a massive Japanese style castle, rising several stories into the air. Along the various walled fortifications, the teens could see several armored figures slowly walking about. And then suddenly they were back in the forest before the strange man. "Stealth and cunning will be your greatest weapon as you make your way into Yamamori's fortress, confronting his forces only when necessary." The man said, giving a bow before vanishing from sight with a faint *POP*. Bernadette looked at the others, a confused look on her face. "What is going on?"

Kord Dormitories, Fifth Floor Claremont Academy, Freedom City, New Jersey Wednesday, September 6, 2023 The first week of school at Claremont Academy was proving to be a whirlwind. At least that’s what sixteen-year-old Rosalind Sommaripa, sometimes known as the high-flying superhero Starshine, would have told you. Class had been out for a half-hour, and the no-nonsense teenager was taking a brief break in her dorm room to gather her thoughts and refine her plan for the rest of the week . . . again. Her reverie was interrupted by a knock at the door, which turned out to not be fully closed and swung open, revealing her green-dreadlocked dorm mate Consuelo, hovering just above the floor. “Oh, hey, uh, Rosie . . . Do you think this might be a good time, now to, uh, . . . I mean do you think it would work out, if you had time, to, like, fly over to my mom’s house with me and explain to her that I really am enrolled at Claremont?”

Kord Dormitories, Fifth Floor Claremont Academy, Freedom City, New Jersey Monday, September 4, 2023 Like the rest of the dormitories, the fifth floor of Kord was a similar scene of controlled chaos involving students and parents. Three eighteen year old girls emerged from the stairwell into the hall of the fifth floor. The three were all identical in appearance, the same, long red hair and dressed in matching jean shorts and green tank-tops. The only difference between them was what each was carrying, with one having a backpack and suitcase, the next only had a large suitcase (which she seemed to lift with minimal effort) and the last carrying a box. Bernadette O'Connell led two of her duplicates down the hall toward her room for her last year at Claremont, excited to see her friend again. It had been an interesting summer, not the least of which had been her experience at a band competition in Boston. The sooner she got her stuff to her new room, the sooner she could go find her friends and catch up….

Leonard Fox Auditorium, Claremont Academy Rosalind Sommaripa, reluctant director Roselind mused she had a special kind of luck, the ability to be at the right place at the wrong time. An offhanded comment that they put on a play this year for the parents, had fallen on the ears of an enthusiastic teacher. It ended up with her even meeting with the Headmistress with promises of extra credits for the idiot that would run the whole show, that idiot being her! So sitting in the auditorium, waiting for both whoever had been roped into helping and those who wanted to audition, she wondered what play they should pick. Worrying that she should have already decided this, if not the whole thing had been a little bit of a whirl since she’d mentioned the idea. Currently, she was flip-flopping between One with the Night and Centurion (if she only had a few shows up), at least they should have an advantage with the special effects...

Claremont Academy Fall 2021 The members of Red Squad had been told their special weekend project was quite a doozy, and they were right - though perhaps not in the usual superpowered way. Escorting selected structural supports and architectural plans from the Centurion's Sanctum to the National Building Museum in Washington was a high honor, even if by all accounts it was just going to involve a trip in a private jet and a short car trip to the NBM. Waiting for them as they reported for their bus ride to the airport was their escort for the day; a woman none of them had met before, not to speak of, but who all of them had heard of. The Patriot, second to bear that title, was a solidly-built Asian woman who looked to be maybe thirty (though really, who could tell the ages of adults well) her face partially obscured by a dark red and blue armored helmet complete with chin guard, eyes hidden by white reflective lenses over the eyepiece. Her armored costume consisted of a blue Kevlar tactical shirt, white stain-repellent trousers, and maroon gauntlets. It's a look obviously inspired by the previous Patriot, with a few upgrades. She was waering a brown leather bomber jacket over the top of the costume with an American flag sewn on the back and white star over the heart. Her tactical boots didn't add enough to her height to make her 5'10" but she's close. Inside her helmet, Ashley was already dreading this, even as she was reminding herself to stow it. You volunteered for this job. That means keeping an eye on the kids, especially the ones Callie is keeping a special eye on. You spend a day with them, talk about working for the government and not hiding in the shadows, it's great. Her red white and blue bike was parked nearby the bus, whose driver was inside grabbing breakfast before they all hit the road. It was early morning for teenagers; Ashley had been up for hours. She stood with her arms folded over her chest and greeted the first student with "Morning. Just wait right there till everyone's here, I don't want to talk over the engine."

Claremont Academy Early Afternoon, Wednesday, November 3, 2021 Dr. Ellie Espadas had gotten used to walking the Claremont Academy campus as a visiting mentor rather than a student but she hadn't really been expecting to be asked back to speak with another student. Guess I'll take it as a vote of confidence, she mused to herself, long maroon coat switching about her ankles in the brisk November air. She'd worn a tan turtleneck and black slacks with enough stretch to move about freely; she wasn't expecting that sort of action specifically but around that many kids with powers you never knew when the situation might call for some acrobatics. Waiting outside one of the school's dormitories she mentally reviewed the brief description she'd gotten of Rosalind Sommaripa ahead of time, which hadn't been much more than a photo of an uncomfortable looking teenager and a couple of sentences about extraterrestrial jewelry. Ellie considered the chunky bangle bracelets hanging about her own wrists. Probably not looking for accessorizing advice.

Kord Dormitories, Third Floor Claremont Academy, Freedom City, New Jersey Saturday, September 4, 2021 The start of another school year was only a few days away, so unsurprisingly the Claremont Academy campus was abuzz with activity as parents and students descended on the school's dormitories. Amid this activity, a pair of teenage girls with bright red hair made their way from the parking lot toward the Rita Kord Dormitory. At first glance, one might have assumed the two girls were twins, except it was not just their features that were completely identical, they were both dressed in the exact same grey and black plaid skirt and white top. In fact, the only difference between the two was that one was carrying a suitcase and had a backpack over one shoulder, while the other was carrying a box. Bernadette O'Connell glanced back at her duplicate that was carrying the box behind her, letting out a slight sigh at the unintended display of her powers. The teen was glad that her older brothers had stayed up in Boston when her parents had driven her down for the start of the year at her new school, as there had been a few times where the family mini-van had gotten a bit too crowded. Hopefully this new school would help her learn to prevent things like that. Reaching the entrance of the building, the redhead glanced up towards the upper floors a moment before looking back down at the letter from the school that had her room assignment. "Alright, third floor, Room 308." She stated to her duplicate with a slight Irish accent, even though it was entirely unnecessary to communicate that out loud. Her other duplicate that was still back at the car with her parents also knew where the floor was located and could guide them up there when with the remainder of Bernadette's things.

Starshine Power Level: 8 (119/128PP) Unspent Power Points: 9pp Trade-Offs: None In Brief: Everyday teen bonded to a powerful artifact. Catchphrase: "Here we go...!" Theme: Build a Bitch - Bella Poarch Alternate Identity: Rosalind Sommaripa (Secret) Birthplace: Shamong, New Jersey Residence: Claremont Academy, Freedom City Base of Operations: Claremont Academy Occupation: Student Affiliations: None Family: Janina Sommaripa (Mom), Alexander Sommaripa (Dad), Calliope Sommaripa (Gran) Description: Age: 16 (DoB: 20th Februrary 2005) Gender: Female Ethnicity: Greek-American Height: 5'5" Weight: 150 lbs Eyes: Brown Hair: Red Rosalind has one of those faces that looks more mature, but not old, than her sixteen years. Despite her best effort to look younger people think she'd older and therefore more mature than she'd really like. It probably doesn't help that her mother insists on her having a practical boring hairstyle, despite several (ahem) close shaves. Likewise, her clothes tend to be practical and a little on the baggy side, with her managing to stay just the wrong side of fashionable and cool. The bracelet, it has, nor needs, any other name, is a rather simple design of a thick band of silvery metal. When activated it glows with power that is quite obvious in all but the darkest of situations. Sometimes in this form faint symbols and circuitry can be made out behind the light, though so far no one has been able to work out what the rapidly changing designs actually mean or represent. Still not quite convinced that she's a full-on Superhero she's not even considered any kind of costume for herself, instead of using the standard Claremont uniform when danger calls. The only thing she does wear is a pair of old aviator goggles, ostensively to keep bugs out of her eyes. Her gran insists that they belonged to a famous ancestor that fought for the allies in World War 2. Rosalind suspects that they were just something she picked up at a thrift store, though she still wears them as a good luck charm. History: Long ago an advanced race of aliens created, as many often do, what they thought was the ultimate personal weapon. What happened to their species is unknown but the bracelet like weapon fell into the hands of multiple warlike species out to unlock the apparently deadly weapon. Each time they seemed to be able to activate the weapon and would pass it on to the next species and the cycle would continue. In 1947 AD the device found its way into the hands of a Grue Scout ship which properly crash-landed on Earth, the U.S. Airforce like all the others attempted to figure out the bracelet before boxing it away and keeping it in a series of less predacious storage facilities. In Winter 2020 on its way to another storage facility in Freedom City something happened and the bracelet was lost from its storage crate, some of the crazier theories suggested that it escaped. The item inert and with many more interesting artefacts the lost wasn't really noticed and few care about its recovery. Meanwhile, Rosalind Sommaripa was having a fairly uneventful life growing up in Shamong, New Jersey. She wasn't popular, talented or pretty sitting in that happy middle ground of just getting on with things. The closest thing that came to the excitement was when a super flew overhead on their way back to Freedom City, and whilst Rosalind might idly daydream of moving to the big city she was content to live out her high school years in relative peace and quiet. Not that she wouldn't get involved if she saw injustice, her gran always said the women of the family had a fire inside them, and that where the amazing, and awful, trouble. began! In the spring of 2021 whilst enjoying the warming weather Rosalind was walking in Wharton Forest, so remote and boring even the Green Man didn't bother to hang around when she saw a group of Jocks hassling a couple of her fellow classmates. On her way over to give them a piece of her mind fate intervened and she tripped on something, the alien bracelet that had been lost all those months before. Long sleeping inside the intricate circuitry of the alien device the synthetic intelligence came across something that it normally didn't encounter. Instead of a mind bent on conquest and destruction, or harnessing its powers for its own end, it found a mind concerned only for helping others and defending the weak. Fascinated it scanned the brainwaves of Rosalind to discover someone so very unlike the warriors and scientists it normally encountered, in a pique of interest it did something it hadn't done in many millennia and bonded with the young woman. All of this was a surprise to Rosalind who suddenly found this glowing bracelet bound to her arm, trying to shake it loose only caused it to fire a blast of light (which ironically scared away both the jocks and fellow classmates) throwing her into the air. It wasn't the most graceful way to find she could now fly, but her momma hadn't raised no fool, and she quickly figured out what had happened and got, some, control over the situation. Over the summer she slowly gained control over the alien device, not helped that the SI couldn't form words, only emotions and vague impressions, trying to keep this all secret until she'd figured out just what to do with this unearthly power she'd been gifted with. Despite being careful a glowing flying figure gains some attention, especially in a place as quiet as Shamong, and someone came looking for Rosalind offering a chance to train to better use her powers at Claremont academy. Personality & Motivation: Sensible and level headed are probably the best way to describe Rosalind. She will always try to think her way out of any situation before resorting to more extreme solutions, which is why the bracelet chose her in the first place. Though she does have a bit of a temper when she sees something she considers an injustice and isn't beyond getting involved powers or no. Despite her outwards signs of being together, she is in fact a bundle of insecurities, like many teens her age, and to counter such tends to rely on self-deprecation humour. And though she'll happily take the mickey out of herself she won't allow anyone to do likewise to others. if it wasn't for that she is pretty sure she could blend into the background and allow others to take the lead, and in general situations, she's happy to do that. Especially within the bounds of Claremont where she feels like a very small fish in a massive pond filled with superpowered sharks. Powers & Tactics: Rosalind is not a skilled tactician in the slightest and hence has a pretty simple tactic to deal with supervillains. Never strike first, but if trouble starts hit them with everything you've got until they fall down and can be arrested. She's not stupid, however, despite her claim sometimes, and if something isn't obviously working she will attempt something else. Conditioned by high school she's a natural follower over being a leader, being able and capable of taking orders and offer good options for team efforts. Power Descriptions:The advanced alien bracelet using immense energies generates a powerful electromagnetic field. These can be used offensively or defensively whilst also allowing Starshine to fly at high speeds safely. All of the effects are however accompanied by an aura of light, normal white but it can change in intensity and colour depending on what the bracelet is trying to do and the general mood of both Starshine and the bracelet. Complications: Imposter Syndrome: Everyone at Claremont is smart, prettier and just all-around better at being a superhero than Rosalind. The GM can offer a hp for Starshine to fret so much that for a short while she can't access any of her powers. Pacifist: Until someone throws the first punch (or blast) or others are obviously in danger Rosalind's morals and the bracelets programming won't let her use her powers offensively.
