Torpedo Lass Power Level: 10/11 (154/176PP) Trade-Offs: +2 Defense / -2 Toughness Unspent Power Points: 20 In Brief: Torpedo Lass is a All American aquatic superhero time-displaced from the WWII Era looking to make her way in the 21st Century while fighting America's enemies foreign and domestic! Residence: Freedom City, New Jersey Base of Operations: Lonely Point Catchphrase: "Anchors Aweigh!" Alternate Identity: Mary Masterson, Master Chief Petty Officer USN (Honorably Discharged) Identity: Public Birthplace: Freedom City Occupation: VA Veteran's Outreach Casemanager Affiliations: None, but looking. Family: Samantha (Mother, Deceased 1959), Robert (Father, Deceased 1958), James (Brother, Killed in Action, 1941) Age: 32 (1/8/1919, was missing from time for 64 years) Apparent Age: 20 Gender: Female Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5'7" Weight: 230 Eyes: Blue-Green (slight phosphorescent glow) Hair: Dark Purple/Magenta Description: Mary Masterson's most outstanding feature is her magenta hair, her almost glowing blue-green eyes, and her swimmer's physique. She looks somewhat young for her apparent age, for someone who is 24 she might still get carded. Her inability to age, and her eternal health constantly produces a healthy and energetic demeanor fitting of a teenager. She tends to wear basic clothing, sometimes resorting to wearing blue shirts, paired with blue cargo shorts, almost looking like her duty uniform. Tending to wear a blue peacoat in inclimate weather over it. She still has her old dress uniform and mission kit too, a memento from her past, albeit still looking like the day it was made. Although her modern seaman's uniforms she's proud of as a symbol of her adapting to her new life in the 21st Century. As Torpedo Lass she wears a white and navy blue wetsuit, with a custom designed red dive vest with a blue sailor collar. On the suit there is an attached belt with several connected pockets. She also keeps a pair of goggles, more for the look, usually on her forehead when not in the water. Power Descriptions: Torpedo Lass swims super, super fast, hits like her namesake, can breathe water and withstands the rigors of the deep, can waylay opponents with a simple snap, and from her dense muscles can make insanely long and high jumps! History: When Mary was 7, she had a swimming accident as she was swept out to sea by a riptide. As she submerged into the ocean she was surrounded by an odd glowing substance. It granted her the ability to breathe water which she knew when she could no longer hold her breath, among other strange abilities. She was a local celebrity for a short bit surviving her harrowing experience and making it back to shore in break-neck speed, but the strange swimmer was forgotten in time. When Pearl Harbor was attacked, the news of her brother getting killed there moved her to action to serve her country, joining up with the WAVE and serving on a hospital ship. When their ship was torpedoed by a Japanese Sub 6 months later, it was her bravery that saved several injured sailors, nurses, and in a rage she used her powers and took out the sub that torpedoed them. Upon retrieval by a US Navy vessel, at first from her attack she was almost considered for being put in a stockade. But on seeing her value with her powers, she was covertly assigned to the USS Enterprise, as a rescue and scouting asset. All while working with a team of WAVE pilots moving aircraft in the protected rear for use in future carrier missions. Under the callsign of “Torpedo Lass” She saved many pilots and set up several Japanese ships and subs for elimination, but in 1943 she ended up having a running battle against a young Japanese girl with fire powers. In the battle they ended up going into a typhoon, and the two mysteriously vanished. Mary woke back up underwater just a few feet from the surface, a bright light shining down. Inflating the life preserver she was wearing she bobbed up to the surface to the surprise of a ship researching a pile of garbage starting to pile up in a dead spot in the Pacific. When a Navy Ship picked her up, she was made fully aware of her time displacement. Over the next few years she returned to the Navy, now as a fully enlisted sailor, adapting to the new time she was in. After her second tour, after saving many pilots, particularly during the Incursion of the Communion at the end of 2014. She now works after her Honorible Discharge as a Veteran Outreach worker at the VA, as she adjusts to modern life. Personality & Motivation: Mary/Torpedo Lass still has a strong tie to her country, although it is balanced with a worldly view. Having spent time around the world over her time back has helped her "part of the global community" approach to her patriotism. She honestly wants to help people, although she is just as willing to knuckle up to anything that threatens Freedom City or America. Powers & Tactics: Torpedo Lass on land loves to use her ability to leap to use hit-and-run tactics, using herself as a human missile sometimes to get a point across. In the water she'll use her speed and striking ability to full effect. In land or water her snaps she can use to stun her opponents. Description: Mary Masterson's most outstanding feature is her magenta hair, her almost glowing blue-green eyes, and her swimmer's physique. Complications: Hook, Line, and Sinker. Mary's got a soft heart, and is quite willing to help a person in distress, but this could be an easy set up. Run silent, run deep. In water Mary is unable to talk. With the way her body works, her vocal chords don't function for talking while in water. You mean there's an app for that?!? Torpedo Lass is really bad with modern computers and such. The world ain't what it used to be. Torpedo Lass has about 64 years of history to catch up on, and seems to be someone "born yesterday" on some subjects. GM September 13th, 2019, 3:30PM 37°07'15.5"N, 55°57'24.5"W, the Atlantic Ocean The cruise ship Queen Anne's Revenge To travel with Queen Anne's Revenge was a luxury only the rich could afford. A giant cruise ship that toured the world, with stops in select major ports, it would at times spend weeks at sea. The ship was 1050 feet long, and 145 feet wide. It was not the largest cruise ship in the world, but it was one of them, at least. It had exactly 2500 state rooms, which, along with the ever present crew, meant that it could easily hold more than 6000 people at once. The ship were divided into 15 floors, all with an appropriate pirate theme. The dread pirate Blackbeard could entertain the kids while the parents played in the casino or used any of the cruise ships many other adult entertainment options. The two outdoor and one indoor swimming pool on the ship were always busy, with water splashing everywhere and children and adults both riding the water slides into the water, one that even stretched out over the side of the ship, the pipe being completely see through at that point in the journey. The crew of the Queen Anne's Revenge were, of course, all dressed in appropriate period uniforms, made up to be pirates. Which made it all the more shocking when, on September 13th 3PM, the ship's captain sent out cries for help to anyone within range. Pirates had attacked the ship, demanding the valuables or lives of all aboard!

So... out East there's tales of a brave mariner who is willing to protect Freedom City from all threats, and out west there's tales of a barnstormer with a heart of gold. Thing is... they've been quiet for a while. Time to change that. Anyone looking to get someone into their threads from Emerald City or Freedom City? Torpedo Lass' retirement was nothing but a rumor, and Levity can be anywhere she's needed. Having a fast plane for cross-country commutes helps). Who's interested in running?

GM May 1st, Monday, 2017, 12.45AM Emerald City, Washington, United States, Fort Brewer Naval Base, Sub-level 2, briefing room "This is the only visual we have on your target, uh...Ms. Masterson" Admiral Henry "Hank" Finley was a fit, imposing man at 6'8", with his close-cut greying hair and constant frown softened little by a short spadehead beard. He also clearly had little experience dealing with superhumans. The darkened room he and the other, conspicuously silent, officers were gathered in had enough Cold War atmosphere to choke somebody from the bright and clear Forties. The lights were dimmed to help accentuate the ten-foot-wide picture humming softly in the air. With a slight cough and a swipe of his fingers, the projected image of a distant, misty lump of grey on a time-stamped horizon sharpened and jumped into focus. Hovering above the conference room table, the picture resolved into an island. An island with towering cliffs for shores, great tangles of hanging greenery and a liberal sprinkling of palm trees. "As you can guess, there's nothing like this on any of our charts. Satellite has nothing, even got Argus down here last weekend to scan. Nada." The Old Man of Fort Brewer folded his arms and looked down into the enigma that had brought Mary Masterson, the Torpedo Lass of World War 2, to far-off Emerald City, Washington. "Sent some scouts out, they got to the spot and swear up and down the thing just vanished. But I noticed something." "The sub crew I dispatched along with the other boats, they say it vanished just a little after the others lost track. Could mean nothing, but," Finley turned to Torpedo Lass, a gleam of cunning in his dark eyes "got me thinking somebody who can go faster than anything we've ever built and do it under the surface might stand a chance of clearing this up." "What we're asking is strictly recon, understand. Just get there, take a look around, come back and give us what you get. We give that to Citizen and he takes care of anything dangerous." the admiral shook his head resolutely, and his tone became one Mary was all too familiar with. "I'm not inclined to risk your safety, miss, no matter how bulletproof they tell me you are. I've got kids older than you." May 2nd, Tuesday, 2017, 8.45PM Liverpool, England, A very nice side-street The hero Dr. Deoxy had needs any human had. Being at the center of artistic life and on the crest of the glittering wave of imagination, for one. So strolling from one dazzling get-together had seemed like a good idea at the time. Just a little shortcut and he'd be back in the circle of greats... Dr. Nathaniel Anderson only knew he was being followed when he felt the sudden shock of lightning, fell spasming to the ground and heard somebody whisper "You. Have been. Thunderstruck!" There was a giddy giggle as the darkness closed comfortably around Nathan's head "Nothing? Aw geez, overjuiced..." A squalid room somewhere The darkness slid away to reveal a room that had once been stark and harrowing. A massive, altar-like table occupied the centre, letting the eye of the Sun in to bathe Nathan in cosmic fire. The rest was gloomy and indistinct, though clearly vast and of the Modernist school. Vines and tree roots reached in through the roof, turning the yellow light a gentle emerald. Other vegetation scrawled across the walls and floor. Somewhere birds chattered and sang. Of more immediate importance was the fact that Dr. Anderson was pinned to the stony bed by some invisible force, preventing movement of any kind. And he wasn't alone. Somewhere close, and getting closer, was the clopping sound of clumsy booted feet making their way towards him...

GM Waterfront July 10th, 2017 9:30 PM The sound of automatic weapon fire had driven most people away from the docks. It was one of those noises that the people of Freedom heard from time to time. But the circumstances of this fight seemed a little different. It seemed fairly unclear how the ordeal had started but the news report was showing two sets of people with automatic weapons. One set was in a pair of speedboats firing on another set of thugs on a dock. They had taken cover behind a large pick up truck they had apparently arrived in. The fighting had been going on for almost a minute and SWAT was on their way. However it seemed that there would be heroes who would arrive at this before they would. And in fact two were already in the water.

January 3, 2017 3:00 pm, -3 GMT Over the Gulf Stream, Grand Banks, North Atlantic Ocean Cloudy, Raining. And Cold... Torpedo Lass has been through worse. At least that's what she tells herself. The Athena, a research ship for OCEAN-Freedom was doing important research on the salinity of the Gulf Stream, passing over the Grand Banks, helping anchor and place sensor bouy lines to the continental shelf. While a submarine was in order for doing this, it wasn't availiable at the time, but Torpedo Lass interested in the organization volunteered to help the effort. She got some looks from the half sea-sick crew members the day before, dressed in red drysuits and life vests, barely keeping their legs under them as the ship pitched as they got the last of their deck equipment secured. Mary herself had rescued a couple who had fell overboard when they hit a slick section of the deck, they were resting and warming back up in sick bay. They were looking more at the skin-tight wetsuit-like costume she was wearing wondering how she kept warm. The thing with Torpedo Lass, the cold stopped bothering her when she got the powers in the first place. But now the waves were calm enough to resume work, but since the trip got a bit hairy, things were limited to tethered sensors tossed over the side and reeled down to a proper depth. Torpedo Lass kept an eye on the bundled lines, jumping into the water to help guide them, escorting the sensor to depth. Once she broke the surface she put some air in her vest to swim about on the surface to inspect the side of the ship the line was on. Everything was clear of being any tangling issue. Once she was satisfied with the work she climbs up a rope ladder to the deck where a deck hand handed over a drink. "Thought you'd appreciate some fresh water." She said with a smile. "Not much of an issue but thanks." Torpedo Lass said... drinking Salt Water wasn't harmful for her, but the thought was appreciated. "How's Mark and Anna?" Torpedo Lass said with some concern. "They're better. They've gotten over the chill they got from falling overboard yesterday. That was a good eye spotting them fall overboard." Torpedo Lass smiled, straightening the sailor collar of her costume. Whenever she had the dive vest inflated it never really sat right. "At least they remembered the safety briefing I game them and remembered the man overboard beacons to make spotting them easier. Still getting used to how those modern Mae Wests of yours work... didn't have auto-inflation until I re-appeared in modern times.." Torpedo Lass sat on the Port rail, looking over the side at the sensor line. The deckhand was looking at Torpedo Lass quizzically at her last comment as she remembered something... "I think Doctor Delacroix was gonna check on things on deck here in a minute or two... I wager he wanted to suit up first." "Yeah, I wager seeing how Mark and Anna were shivering it put the gospel in him." Mary smirked. "And... Mae West?" "Before your time, kid. And i wager before they invented reflective tape." She waited for the Good Doctor to step out on deck. "Hopefully it's good news and we can shift location later to someplace calmer... and sunnier. Might raise the crew's spirits." "Yeah, this cold and rain is getting to some of the volunteers. The heavily shortened shifts help, but the rocking of the boat last night... really didn't help with sleep patterns." Torpedo Lass nodded. "Probably'll add a few days to the trip I'd wager too. Get inside and see what's up with the Doc, Sally." Sally nodded. "Sure thing. I'll see what's up." She heads into the ship, looking around for Doctor Delacroix. "Hey Doc! You around? Torpedo Lass is askin' for ya!" There was something on Mary's mind... she could have swore she had seen a black shadow in the water, but with the way the waves were yesterday, she couldn't be sure if it was a whale or anything... she hadn't had the chance to report the fact yet, but while things were calm, it seemed it was time for a situation report. She made sure the pony tail she had started to grow was still held in place by the tied ribbon at it's root. She had been growing her dark purple hair out from it's short, military length. Her phosphorescent blue eyes watching the other deckhands. Their glow slightly visible with the overcast lighting conditions. Not that any lighting was an issue... she could see in the dark plain as day.

North Bay Yacht Club April 23rd, 2016 9am, Sunny, 59 degrees GM Torpedo Lass organized some bags on the rented out yacht the nautical superheroine had loaded on. She had everything planned out for the day outing, right down to where to do the water sampling the science teacher that had sponsored the trip along with Torpedo Lass herself who used some reward money she picked up on a couple small patrols prior to cover insurance for the trip. It would be a two day trip, with the duo returning home sometime in the afternoon. She also recommended to dress warmly, although she also knew Casey's powers made her more than able to handle the cold. She smiled as she sat on one of the well stuffed piles of bags. Being super-strong had it's perks. She was both stevedore, and sailor both. She adjusted the suit that was her costume, and waited for her young charge for the next two days to arrive.

GM Post: Somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean - 06:44 GMT The First Mate stood at attention as the Captain clanked into the submarine's bridge. Even among the general augmentations of the crew, the Captain's bulky, cyborg frame was difficult to mistake as he loomed over the small, cramped bridge space. "First Mate! Any sign of our government friends?" "Absolutely none, sir. The patrol vessels lost sight of us not long after submerging. Those agents almost gave us some trouble back there, but we haven't yet met a crew that can handle the Dragon." The First Mate smiled. The Captain laughed and put his arm around the First Mate's shoulder. "Aye, she's a fine vessel. And what's more a fine crew. But things have been getting a little too close for me as of late. The ships of the Atlantic know our name, and have started preparing when we come. I think it's time we returned home and picked up a litte upgrade..." As he said this, the captain dialed the ship's map towards the east coast of the United States. The First Mate gave him a puzzled look. "Freedom City, sir? The Dragon's a fearsome ship, but do you think we're ready to hit a city full of supers?" The captain smiled as he looked at the map. "If all goes as planned, my friend, I don't think we'll have to..." **************** Freedom City, NJ North Bay Beach - 15:01 GMT It was a lovely adn, more important to the citizens of Freedom City, uneventful summer day. The heat of the summer brought locals and tourists alike to the beachside for some time in the water. As the sun hit midday, the beach filled with families and friends spreading out towels for picnics, swimming, and general dilly-dallying on the beach, as restaurants accross the street filled up with those wanting to enjoy their afternoon indoors. And among this throng of people, we see our heroes...

Riverside District, Pier 4, US Navy Warehouse September 14, 2015, 0720 HRS, Eastern Daylight Time A mix of FCPD, US Navy NCIS, and Coast Guard officers were milling about, some looking dumbfounded and others tripping over jurisdictions. An area of Pier 4's floor was cordoned off by security tape, but a combination of the MPs trampling over the scene, The FCPD's being shuffled about by the nose, and the fact that whatever happened happened well before the crack of dawn had caused the scene start to go cold. The back of the pier warehouse was open, enough to accommodate a small ship used for moving cargo around that the Navy used. As well as there was already several crates stacked, and seemingly untouched. "So, when is the cape arriving? Not that we haven't gone over this area with a fine-toothed comb." One of the NCIS investigators said, his arms crossed. "We're hearing there's two inbound, one the Navy asked for specifically, and someone that is being called in. Not sure which is comin' first." One of the MPs mentioned, before telling a FCPD officer to keep back from the cordon. There was a couple of FCPD detectives talking to some of the NCIS investigators, going over their notes, and actually showing some coordination. Something was knitting together. What was noticeable is within the milling group of investigators, was an Admiral... one in charge of the fleet in this part of the Atlantic... and he didn't look happy.

GM 16th April 2016 Freedom City The Bum Note Jazz Club. The Bum Note Jazz club was cheap and smoky. The wood was stained from booze, cigars, and stains of a less clear, and probably unsavoury nature. But wood it had, and charm too. And slow, drunken, low Jazz, full of brass and thick bass strings, peppered with snappy off beat snares and smooth strange time signatures. Horny Dick was smoking and tapping his hand to the peculiar and slick Jazz trio on stage. Horny Dick had been a top trumpet player and dirty rotten scoundrel back in the 70s. Today, Horny Dick had a busted lip, a Jazz Club that usually broke even, and was a dirty rotten scoundrel. The Bum Note played on. It had a few criminals. A few politicians. There was probably even a few people who were not both. And today, it had a dark haired lady in a red cut off top that was far too small, and red flared trousers that were far too flared, and red platforms that were just about right. Her smoking eyes swam from right to left, and left to right. For today, two superheroes would enter the Bum Note.

The South River, near the Pramas Bridge Thursday September 17, 2015 12:14 PM local time It was a warm September day for Freedom City, the weather already in the mid 80's and rather muggy. Some might have believed that the larger than normal mid-day crowds along the city's waterfront were because of the weather, but that was likely only one reason. The other was the scene playing out on the South River just west of the Pramas Bridge. Out in the river was a massive, 380 foot long multipurpose icebreaker and platform supply vessel, the Horizon, which had been undergoing repairs at one of Freedom City's dry ocks further up the river. Now it was underway to return to the Arctic and resume operations in support of a major oil company's exploratory ocean drilling in the region. But currently it was holding its position in the middle of the river between the Mona-Glen and Pramas bridges, unable to continue forward. This was due to close to a hundred brightly colored kayaks and canoes that were in the water underneath the Pramas Bridge, effectively blocking the vessel's path towards the bay. The small boats were filled with protestors from various environmental groups protesting the drilling in the Arctic, many of them holding signs denouncing the damage to the region. In addition, about a dozen other protestors had suspended themselves from the Pramas Bridge, with ropes and banners between them, making it all but impossible for the Horizon to proceed forward without hitting or entangling some of them with its tall central tower. Several police boats were out on the water, trying to get protestors to move, while a number of other police officers were up on the bridge, attempting to get the protestors suspended from there back up and out of the way. The traffic jam this created on State Route 4, which crossed the Pramas, only made the scene all the more chaotic.

Complications: Sucker for a sob story – Mary's got a soft heart, and is quite willing to help a person in distress, but this could be an easy set up. Run silent, run deep – In water Mary is unable to talk. With the way her body works, her vocal chords don't function for talking while breathing water. Sinker – Because of her denser than normal muscles she sinks, although wearing or holding on to something buoyant is enough to counter this to let her float normally. You mean there's an app for that?!? - Torpedo Lass is really bad with modern computers and such. The world ain't what it used to be. - Torpedo Lass has about 64 years of history to catch up on, and seems to be someone "born yesterday" on some subjects.
