Lament

The Fog was a mixed blessing, thought Luther. He could not see what was out there. And they could not see him.

Hopefully.

But not necessarily.

Which meant...

Summoning the void from the depths of his psyche, where it lived in parasitic agitation. Through muscles and sinew and fat and skin, until the black purple manifestation oozed out of his pores, shimmering.

He felt its hunger and determination, now, stronger than before. It was an effort to keep in check, but with the Void betwixt' his heart and his skin, he faded from view, hard to see, hard to sense, not fully of this world.

So shaded, he walked forward, through the fog, as bold as he felt able to be...

The figure didn't move, at least not at first. After a few steps forward, Luther could make its features out, but not by much. It was maybe less than five feet tall, and its arms hung at its sides. They were unusually long, and they really did look more like tendrils than anything else. It seemed to either not notice Luther or it dismissed his presence entirely, because when when it it moved,, it was with clear, unfiltered purpose.

Its movement was accompanied by an eerie hissing, something akin to an echoed exhale, it zigzagged a little as it moved, but its general direction was forward, and it almost seemed like it was going right for Luther. Its focus, however, seemed to be the room next to him. And it didn'tseem like it was going to stop voluntarily.

"Oh ho..." muttered Luther, backing off. "You don't want to be going there..."

Maybe he might have tried to delay, or talk to the figure. Whatever it was. It certainly didn't look human. But maybe it was?

Maybe...maybe....but the Void was getting hungry, and that meant Luther was getting nervous. It needed to be fed. He reached out, trying to suck all joy and hope from the thing.

His back hit the door to the room. Whatever happens, he told himself, that thing was not getting in...

The beast recoiled, though only for a moment. It straightened up as best it could, Still looking somewhat hunchbcked in its stance. Hollow red lights where its eyes should have been glared at Lament, and its jaws parted as it spoke. Its voice was dry, raspy, and carried a creepy echo.

"WhY... GiVe Us GwEn..."

The sense of urgency in its tone was apparent. It was laced with desperation. It lunched forward, swinging one unnaturally long arm at Lament.

"YoU wiLl NoT... KeEp HeR fRoM uS!"

"Gwen? Why do you want her?" asked Luther, feeling the growing satiation of the void - much to their mutual relief.

He pulled away from the claw, and felt it hitting the door behind him. As strong as he was with the void inside him, he would not want that claw on his face.

"She is under my protection, and as you now feel, and soon will know, my protection is fierce indeed...."

He reached out with a hand encased in the oily purple shimmer of the Void, and touched the wolf-thing, the parasitic energies of the Void eating up the vitality and strength of the thing...
