Elysium Academy, Emerald City

May 16th, 2019

11:30 PM

Elysium Academy was as silent as one would expect during the night. The students, for the most part, knew better than to cause trouble, less they risk a punishment. And a pair of students were sneaking through the night, each independent of the other. They had both overheard Mr. Stark with Doctor Trine during lunch. Something about some important correspondence from "you-know-who". Very vague, sure, but also a potential clue. One that could lead to freeing students... or perhaps to the conspiracy behind the academy and the city itself?

Neither knew the identity of the other. Neither of the two even knew that there were other rebels among Elysium Academy, but it seemed that on this night, Omen and the Bronze Hornet were about to learn.

It was a mix of stealth, fearsome reputation and psionic power that allowed Morton his rather impressive run of the school; tonight it was the more subtle aspects he had drawn upon to get him where he needed to be, talented enough to create a telepathic perception filter he had all but walked past the patrolling campus security he had to rely on his knowledge of the schools layout and the positionings of the cameras from his practise trips earlier in the day to pass through their blindspots.

Rebellion

Mr. Stark was not a good teacher. He was just one of many on Elliot's list of potential members of the conspiracy, which had absolutely nothing to do with how the tactics teacher would continuously put down Elliot and the rest of the Omega Squad during his lessons, with the general breadth of tactics thrown in their direction being something along the lines of "Go stand in front of the heroes, stall them until the real combatants can get close". No, Elliot did not like Mr. Stark at all, but he did not let his emotions get the better of him. That was not the reason that he suspected Mr. Stark to be a part of the conspiracy that secretly ruled Emerald City. No, that came from the cryptic messages that Elliot had happened to see written on his phones, the whispers he shared with other teachers, and, perhaps most of all, from the fact that he had once mentioned the Terror. Mentioning the Terror was, in itself, not a red flag. But that he had mentioned it as an example of something that had been created for a purpose? Now that was interesting. As far as Elliot was aware, the general public knew nothing about what the Terror was. But, apparently Mr. Stark did.

Elliot had pulled his mask on, and vanished, replaced by Rebellion. Now he walked the halls of the school, his hands in the pockets of his blue jacket, blue cap pulled over his head. He was black, his eyes white in the darkness of his face, but of course, no one could see him, as he blended into the world around him. He had yet to be caught during his tours around the Academy and the outside, and he planned to keep it that way. No one should suspect him, after all.

It did not take long to reach Mr. Stark's office. The only question was how to enter without causing too much noise or attract attention.

The pair of students managed to approach Mr. Stark's office unnoticed. Both would find themselves in front of the door at the same time, and yet, they did not notice the other. The door appeared to be a heavy hardwood door, much like the rest of the doors to the teachers' offices, with a golden door handle. The teachers, at least, were not wanting for anything at Elysium Academy. There was a keypad next to the door, with the numbers 0 to 10, and a lock symbol to press at the end. From their previous journeys across the school, both of the heroes would know that the teachers used values with 6 different numbers for their codes. The question was how they would proceed to enter.

Morton rubbed at his chin as he pondered what action he should take next.

There were a few things he could try, the most direct of course was to simply force his entry, this approach he quickly dismissed, leaving evidence not only made his work harder but also would likely invalidate anything he learned.

The most subtle approach would be to project his awareness from his body and attempt to glean what he could from remote ESP scans but that too was risky, he couldnt guess at what kind of defenses were in place against such simple actions.

He would need some kind of middle ground response, he decided, to slip between the gaps in the armour.

Rebellion

Rebellion moved closer to the door. He could force his way in. He slowly moved a hand to one of his batons, then stopped. No, that would disturb the scene too much. He needed that information, but he was not in a position to give away that he was inside the school. So far, he had managed to come and go unseen. He could not give that away so quickly.

Instead, he moved towards the keypad. The number could be significant to Stark, if he were to remember it. There might be some clue, maybe wear and tear on the buttons, maybe blood left over from a scratch... but no. Nothing. Curious. He would have to come up with something else. Taking a step away from the keypad, he stood in front of the door again, thinking of what to do.

Inspiration hit morton like a lightning bolt from the blue, why try to overcome an obsticle when he could simply bypass it entirely.

Still shrouded by is psionic perception filter he set his telekinesis to the delicate task of unscrewing the hinges from the frame one at a time to carefully slide it out of place.

One by one, the screws began to be unscrewed from the hinges on the frame. It was not a quick task, but it was suitable, at least. One by one, the screws would come out, and the door would soon be able to be opened. The question was if someone would notice the screws being moved away or not. And when the door was opened.

Rebellion

What the hell? Slowly, but surely, the doors screws were unscrewing themselves? Just what was going on? It was just one a time, moving ever so slowly, but moving nonetheless. Elliot had seen more than a few things as Rebellion, but this was just weird. Was someone else here? Trying to break into the same room at the same time? Another student? He didn't know of anyone that could turn invisible like that.

This was so weird.

Still, probably best to see what was going to happen. Rebellion took a step back, away from the door, standing with his back against the wall opposite of it, and waited.

With the last of the screws removed it was a simple matter to slide the door off the electronic deadbolts and prop it up against the wall.

Now he just needed to search the place for clues as to what "Stark the shark" might've been up too with his secret messages and coded talk.

A brisk walk carried him out of the hallway and into the office safely on the other sides of any psijammers that might have been shielding it from student snooping he extended his awareness and put his remote senses to work at the speed of thought itself.

The door offered little resistance, once the screw were removed, at least. It slowly slid off the deadbolts, while Screech entered the office. There were indeed psi jammers inside the room, much as he had expected, but not of the kind that he had. The moment he was inside, he would immediately become visible to Rebellion, and any other onlookers that might come through the hall. Attempting to reach out with his mind, he instead found those very powers blocked.

The room itself was rather spartan. A bookshelf with a few books on one end of the room. A coat rack, currently empty. A desk, with a laptop placed on it, currently closed, a comfy chair positioned behind it.

Rebellion

The door moved away, as if carried by something, gently sliding to the side. Yeah. Someone was there alright. But what was whoever it was up to? The moment he stepped inside the room, he appeared... and he really didn't look like anyone that Elliot had seen before. A guy in a purple poncho, with a hood pulled up tightly. That was all that Elliot could see from behind him, at least.

But what was he up to? Was he even a student? And what had caused him to become suddenly visible like that? No, Elliot felt no need to approach him quite yet. Stay back, watch and listen.

Fear was an illusion he had been taught, panic was a choice, only danger was real.

Using his formidable willpower to refrain from panicking he took a single quick sweep around the room to search for any danger before proceeding with his task, rifling through various bits of office debris in the search for information.

He started with an old favorite the waste paper bin.

Screech moved around the room. No alarms were sounded, at least not yet, but he probably had little time. The waste paper bin had some scraps, pieces of paper ripped to shreds, mostly by hand. Most of it seemed to be random bits and pieces. Nothing of consequence. There were two pieces of paper that were exciting, however. Ripped clean down the middle, it was a printout of an email. Put together, it spelled out:

Mr. Stark, ONCE again, here is your username and password to the system. Please try to remember them this time:

Username: Elysium/Teach_Stark

Password: Tr1T0R3m3mb3r

Whatever other qualities Mr. Stark had, he did not seem an expert at cyber security, at least.

Rebellion

The strange bird man seemed shocked at suddenly appearing. So he had not planned for being seen. Another intruder, then. Or perhaps a secret guard? Elliot could not be sure, either way. And if he was an intruder, that seemed shocked at suddenly becoming visible, then would Elliot become visible inside the room too? Was the potential gain of finding out something incredibly vague worth that risk?

Of course it was.

His form still blending in with the surroundings, Rebellion steeled himself as he took a step inside, ready to fight if it came to that... and then he didn't appear. Interesting. Whatever had caused the other to appear, it did not seem to affect Elliot's ability to change his appearance at all. The other was moving around, looking through the trash. Probably not an intruder, then. Or maybe just an overly zealous member of the cleaning crew. Elliot made a different decision. Anything that could trigger and alarm, he had to try to find it. Then take it out.
