Shadowboxer Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007 Huh. He's kinda forward. "Um, sort of. You know how he is, all cryptic and stuff. I probably won't know what he means until next week, " he lies. Liam watches the drills for a moment, this time with blocks added to the counter-punches. However, he keeps his eye on the new student, paying attention to his body language. "So, how's the kwoon treating you? I remember Lee used to give me a hard time."
Barnum Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 "So, how's the kwoon treating you? I remember Lee used to give me a hard time." The student smile. "He's not so ba--" BOOM! Before the student could finish his answer, a loud explosion went off outside of the martial arts school. Through the glass in the door, Nightrival could see a large smoke cloud forming across the street.

Shadowboxer Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 Liam instinctively covers his ears to shield himself from the sudden noise, and peers out the window to see what had happened. The smoke billowing out into the street sends an alarm ringing in his head. Although he's not entirely sure what is going on, his instincts tell him that danger is afoot. Here I was thinking that something was wrong here, he thinks. Using the distraction to slip away from the students unnoticed, Liam stealthily creeps towards the backdoor. On the other side of the door and down a small flight of stairs is a narrow alleyway, which is kept remarkably clean compared to the Southside. Luckily, Liam has his costume stashed inside his duffel bag. He quickly changes, stuffs his street clothes into the bag and places it inside a nearby trashcan. With a single leap he bounds twenty feet into the air and scrambles up to the roof. He dashes across the rooftop to the side facing the street. Keeping himself concealed, Nightrival peers down to examine the scene.

Barnum Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 By the time Nightrival made it to the roof, the scene below had already begun to unfold. The street was in chaos. Most of the "civilians" had fled. Across the street in front of a used book store, a car was burning. Hot orange flames and black smoke poured out of the wreckage. Out in the street stood five men, all dressed in street clothes. The were walking about casually, as if waiting for something. Between the men, collapsed on the street, were six of Master Lee's students. Some of them were bloody. None of them were moving. One of the men looked at his watch. "We wait two more minutes," he said. The others nodded in approval.

Shadowboxer Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 Nightrival narrows his eyes. Six innocents hurt. And that burning car will cause more trouble later. He presses down on his inflating anger, keeping focused on the scene below him. Master Lee's most important lesson flashes through his mind: rage can defeat even the greatest fighter. For now, his greatest concern is to get those students away from the fire. The only way to do that is to get past their attackers. He springs off the edge of the roof, grabs a nearby streetlight, swings off its arched lamp, and lands facing the five men. He slips into a variation of the drop stance, sweeping the brittle leaves aside. Nightrival tenses his muscles and readies himself. Thick sheets of red leaves slowly descend onto the sidewalk, showering him with their brilliant colours. "Two minutes?" he growls. "I'd say this party just started."

Barnum Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 The men were startled by Nightrival's sudden appearance, but the didn't appear frightened . . . or surprised. They were spread out in front of the hero like a fan, all within striking distance. The men didn't have weapons, but their fists were clenched, and Nightrival could tell by they way they held themselves and the way they moved that they were experienced combatants. The fact that they had easily dispatched the well-trained students of Master Lee's school spoke volumes.

Shadowboxer Posted November 30, 2007 Author Posted November 30, 2007 Nightrival tucks into a tumble followed by a forward handspring, placing him in the center of the attacker's fan and creating a barrier between the unconscious students and their assailants. He can feel intense waves of heat from the burning car warming his face. Although he resumes the drop stance, instead of lashing out with an opening attack Nightrival watches their feet, prepared to evade any oncoming strikes. "You guys aren't the most talkative, huh? The last dude was a regular Louis C.K. And that guy is funny." He turns to the nearest attacker and quickly looks him up and down, trying to gauge his skill by taking his stance and physique into account. If they can take out these guys, he thinks, then this is gonna be fun. Nightrival slowly pivots his fists. "Your move."

Barnum Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 The six warriors assumed a fighting stance and began advancing on the hero. They moved like Ninjas, though they looked and dressed like the typical white blue collar workers typically found in Freedom City. The "ninjas" coordinated their movements and attacked in waves. In rapid fire fashion the martial artists launched themselves at Nightrival. They had knives in their hands in a flash, and were striking, feinting, and then falling back in a flurry of blows. The second wave repeated the tactics of the first. Nightrival easily fended them off too. With each successive attack, however, the knives got closer, and it became obvious to the hero that there were testing his skill and setting up the next wave for their attack. With the final wave, amid the flurry of knife strokes, one of the blades made it past Nightrival's defenses and slashed him across the shoulder. All of the warriors fell back a few paces and prepared to attack again.

Shadowboxer Posted December 2, 2007 Author Posted December 2, 2007 His opponent's attack is solid and true, but luckily Nightrival rolls with the blade as it slices across his shoulder. The knife leaves a clean tear in his costume, sparing his shoulder by mere inches. He resumes his stance and takes in the new information he gleamed from the warrior's movements. These guys are pro. Ninjitsu, most likely. Together they're a threat, but apart they're easy pickin's. Nightrival glances over to the burning car. And that fire might spread. No time to get fancy; I need to take them out quick. "I just fixed this costume, you chump," exclaims Nightrival to his attacker. He squeezes his fists, and each finger joint loudly cracks and pops. "And I hate sewin'." Nightrival takes a step to bridge the distance between him and the nearest warrior. Bracing his back foot, he drives his knee into the warrior's midsection with a front kick, keeping his fists close to his chest. Without noticing whether or not his attack was successful, Nightrival then hurtles fourteen feet over his opponent's head and angles himself so he lands on the other side of the warriors' attack formation, right between two of them.
