Avenger Assembled Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 "It's probably not even real!" Ashley hissed loudly at Pan. "And even if it is, you can't just go mucking around in the past!!" Dammit, where was that Boston asshole when she needed him? Judy closed her eyes - and when Daystar opened them, they were glowing. "We can't just...we can't just watch these people die!" She looked at Ashley as she ignited. "I can hear them!"
secondling Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Legatus XVIII was caught in a moment of indecision, looking from his peers to their guide, before turning his attention to the battle. His muscles tensed, but he did not yet throw himself into battle. What would Centurion do? He wondered momentarily. Saving lives was important, but magic and time travel were things that he was entirely unfamiliar with. He hated being uncertain, and took a step forwards. "We should go in and stop the fighting. But how would we know who is in the right? I'd say we should try and save as many lives as we can."
RocketLord Posted December 12, 2019 Author Posted December 12, 2019 GM "It's real." Macedon's voice was sour as he replied Ashley. "Real enough to kill ya." He stepped out in front of the students and took a long look at the battle before them, at the village that was being shelled. The few defenders seemed to be on the losing end of things here, and on closer look, all the tanks seemed to be coming from the East. "We went through the Magic Mesa. Damn place sends you all over time an' space, got some kinda will of its own. It wants you to do something, to learn something. Usually make something right. Only way it'll send us home again. Guess class is in session, then." His voice was a growl. He was clearly annoyed by all of this, but he was also resigned. "Save as many people as you can, get them outta the town, but do not get killed, ya hear? I'd never hear the end of it if I lost some of ya on a trip like this." He pointed out the soldiers advancing from the East, to address Legatus' concern. "It's easy, son. You hit the damn nazis."
RocketLord Posted December 12, 2019 Author Posted December 12, 2019 Forever Boy "We do not know that, Ashley! Children are in danger!" Pan's reply to Ashley was colder than his voice would usually be, lacking any playful tone. He floated down in front of Ashley, getting right into her face, only inches from her. "Past or no past, I will not let children be hurt." He had more to say, but he backed away when Macedon spoke up, starting to explain what was going on. Fine then. Time, the past, it didn't matter to him, and not just because it wasn't his world. He would not let children suffer. Sending Ashley another glare, he waved his hand in front of himself as Macedon spoke. Golden Pixie Dust ran around his body, starting from his center and spreading out, replacing his clothes with his green, white and red uniform, his mask being the last thing to appear. He could just as well do this looking right. "A rescue mission, then," he determined, speaking to himself as much as the others. The grim expression on his face faded quick, replaced with his usual grin. "I will scout ahead, and attempt a distraction. Be seeing you!" Then, he was gone, flying straight towards the center of the village.
Thunder King Posted December 13, 2019 Posted December 13, 2019 (edited) Adam stared out at the scene before him. German soldiers, nazis. He was worried about Pan and knew the situation would rapidly spiral out of control. He sighed. "Ah, well, crap. Well, cry havoc and all that." Adam spotted his target and crouched for just a moment. He bolted forward, breaking out in a dead sprint. He hurled himself into the air, screaming as loud as he could. He hit the ground and slammed both fists down on the tank in front of him. He felt steel buckle under the force of his blow, twisting the armor, bending the frame and bending the barrel of the main gun. Edited December 13, 2019 by Thunder King
Avenger Assembled Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 For a moment, Ashley thought that geography was going to stymie Judy's sudden desire to run off and fight Nazis - they were a good quarter-mile from the action, and even with her practice, there was no way she was getting there in time. Until Judy scrabbled away from her, lightning-quick, and pulled a discarded motorcycle out of the mud near the base of the hill. Any hope that the girl might not know how to start the seventy-five year old machine (or that maybe it was damaged, or out of gas, or anything else) came to an abrupt end when she turned a key, fired it up, and brought it humming to life! "Come on, Watchdog!" she called, "get on! I can't actually drive it!" Because it was better than doing something stupid like climbing on Legatus and dropping right into the middle of the action, Watchdog ran for the bike and jumped on, getting the brightly-glowing Daystar to grab onto her midsection. She took the helmet hanging on the handles, decided she wasn't going to raise the subject of why there was a hole in it, and gave it to Daystar to strap on. "Come on!"
RocketLord Posted December 18, 2019 Author Posted December 18, 2019 GM <"Mystery men!"> one of the Nazi soldiers near the school barked, pointing towards the high flying Forever Boy, and then joined by another calling out the bouncing Rebound as he approached. They didn't even notice Specimen leaping high above, not until he crashed into and demolished the tank not too far from the position. "Scheisse!" The four soldiers might be Nazis, but they were professional. They turned away from the school with the crying children inside, two firing shots towards Forever Boy above, and the other two firing towards Rebound. Not far away, Specimen landed heavily on a tank in the middle of the main street of the village. It seemed like it was the first of three tanks driving into the city, the destruction quickly catching the attention of the next ones, with soldiers swarming around them. One of the tanks turrets quickly turned and fired, the shell flying just past Specimen and colliding with a house behind him.
secondling Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Legatus With a glance at their guide, Legatus hesitated for a moment, but the sounds of combat called to him. With a light hop, he soared into the sky. He hovered in the air for a heartbeat, considering the scene before him. The biggest threat... Armored tanks, probably. Taking his inspiration from Adam's attack on the panzers, he blurred towards another tank, aiming for the one that seemed most threatening to the civilians. Extending both fists, he smashed headlong into the panzer.
TheAbsurdist Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 "Yeah but ya don't..." Benny started to say as Pan was raging, and then rushing off, and Adam was going all in. Followed by Legatus. And he saw what was happening. His jaw set slowly as he then twisted his head sharply to pop to his neck. "Sorry ladies. It's Nazis, we ain't being coherent." And he took two quick steps, and threw himself at the ground, and hit it hard. This was a few steps up on his normal tactical abilities, he knew it. But there were tanks and people, and crap. He didn't spy anyone looking more important than anyone else, so he kind of aimed for the middle of them, aiming right for the jaw of one poor sucker."Hello boys! Greetin's from ol' Uncle Sam!"
RocketLord Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 (edited) GM The men inside the tank shouted something in German as Legatus collided with the tank, but either they were lucky, or Legatus were not quite as strong as he thought. Two words from inside the tank stuck out to him, however: Radio and Centurion. The soldiers fell as the bouncing boy stuck first one, then another, then a third... and he seemed to be made of sterner stuff than the others, remaining standing. "Übermensch!" the last of the four soldiers gasped, pointing wildly at Rebound with one hand, while reaching for his radio with the other. Edited December 23, 2019 by RocketLord
RocketLord Posted December 23, 2019 Author Posted December 23, 2019 Forever Boy Children! There were children inside that school! As a streak of lightning from above, Pan dove from above, heading straight for the soldier that had withstood Rebound's strikes. Maybe Benny had hit a wrong angle, maybe the man had just been lucky, or maybe he was just lucky, but with a shimmering blade of light materializing in his hands, Pan sought to rectify that stroke of luck! "I do not know Rebound's uncle, but let us imagine that this is another of his greetings!" he declared as ze struck, the man falling to the swing of his blade, shimmering Pixie Dust leaving a trail behind him from the sky to the school's door. One soldier still standing. They had to stop him before getting the children inside out of there.
Avenger Assembled Posted January 4, 2020 Posted January 4, 2020 Lacking any better ideas, and cursing the fates that had brought them here, Watchdog sped towards the school that had attracted Forever Boy's attention, figuring that sticking with the other superheroes was the best way to handle this. She spared a quick thought for her paternal grandfather running guns from his father's shop in Huế, and her mother's grandfather crammed aboard merchant machine ships dashing their way to Europe - then focused on the mission. She still was not convinced all this was real, but the smartest play was to act like it was until she was damn sure she knew better. As they drove, she felt Daystar 'ignite' behind her and heard Judy's grunt of exertion as she fired a blast of searing white radiation past her head and towards an approaching tank - clean miss. Dammit! She reached down at her belt and found one of her grenades, throwing it in the direction of the tank's escorting infantry as she floored the accelerator of her bike. "Hang on!" she called to Daystar as they went, heading in the same direction as Pan. The subsequent bang was very satisfying, even if it didn't do anything to solve their larger problem...
RocketLord Posted January 5, 2020 Author Posted January 5, 2020 GM Explosions, chaos. Super powered Americans plowing through their ranks, confusion starting to spread through their ranks. The two soldiers still standing near Forever Boy and Rebound continued to hold their rifles high, continued to fire, with little luck in hitting the pair of agile heroes. "Über-soldaten! Wir kämpfen gegen Ûber-soldaten! Der Zenturio! Ruf den Kommandanten an! " one of the Nazi soldiers screamed into his radio as he watched the nearby tanks plow through the street. The first shot smashed into the street far from Specimen, while the second one managed to hit Legatus straight in the chest. Time would tell if he could take a shot like that or not. After the first grenade, the soldiers directly around Watchdog and Daystar quickly started to scatter, not wanting to be caught in another blast. The two nearby tanks had men at the machine gun turrets. The bullets rained down over the motorcycle as they attempted to bring it down and decrease their mobility, but it held on.
Thunder King Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 Adam, satisfied that the tank was disabled, bolted off towards a second one. He slammed his right fist directly into the front of the tank. He felt metal crumple against his fists and steel twist and groan on impact. He wasn't sure what the damage was, but the tank was disabled. He looked around for more targets. He worried if his awkward, imprecise movements could do much good against the softer targets, but they could certainly hurt the tanks.
secondling Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 (edited) Legatus The Teen of Adamant flew backwards as he bounced off the tank, blinking. Well, that had been unexpected, but at least they weren't shooting at the people anymo- the thought was cut off as the tank's cannon fired on him, a blast which he took without so much as a blink. "Huh. Okay, I didn't expect that. For some reason I thought it'd hurt more than that." Tilting his head, he looked at the tank in something approaching disappointment. He gently pressed his ribs with his fingers, prodding for pain before remembering where he was. No time for that now! He launched himself at the tank once more, this time trying to be slightly more precise in his attacks. Edited January 7, 2020 by secondling
RocketLord Posted January 7, 2020 Author Posted January 7, 2020 GM The next tank came to a complete halt after Adam's strike. The turret moved slightly, before it simply gave in, smoke rising from it and the hatch being thrown open. A number of soldiers, all cursing in German, did their best to escape the disabled tank, while the rest of the soldiers around the pair of bruisers did their best to get out of the way as Legatus smashed into the second tank. The entire thing rattled, even if it wasn't outright stopped, and it seemed the crew needed at least some time to get it fully operational again after that blow. "Der Zenturio! Hilfe! Wr brauchen die Übersoldaten!" The soldier with the radio was still screaming into it for help.
RocketLord Posted January 7, 2020 Author Posted January 7, 2020 Forever Boy Explosions from far away. A big bright light show from Judy, probably, out near the bridge he had seen while flying. They could be in danger. They probably weren't, knowing Ashley, but they could be, and Pan didn't like the thought of that at all. Not when he and Benny only had two guys still standing around them. He shot Benny an apologizing glance. "You can handle these two and the people in the school, right? I believe it might be time for some air support!" He could hardly contain his grin. If this was that World War that he had read about, then these people were really bad guys, not just the kind of bad guys that you would stop from robbing a gas station or something like that. No, their leadership had done atrocious things, and to be fair, Pan did like the thought of messing with them. As far as he remembered, their enemies had bombed them in great flying machines... Pan flew high up, into the sky. He was glowing, he was visible, but that was fine. He focused. It had to look right, but he didn't have to worry too much about details. After all, it was high above the ground now, and as he dove towards Ashley and Judy at the front lines, five great dark planes emerged from the clouds above, the kind of planes that one would expect to carry bombs, no less! He grinned at his own idea once more, before catching up with the sisters, quickly flying besides them and winking at Ashley. "Having fun?"
Avenger Assembled Posted January 17, 2020 Posted January 17, 2020 Watchdog's hands were too busy at the steering wheel to make a rude gesture at Forever Boy. She was speeding towards the protection of the nearby church, already debating exactly how she was going to get inside the relative security of the structure. She had no idea who exactly was inside, but it seemed like the Nazis were invading rather than occupying - which meant anybody inside were likely to be friendlies who would welcome their aid. Radiant like the sun, Daystar was clinging tightly to Ashley's waist, her eyes still fixed on the tank she'd missed. Forever Boy caught her as she chanted ""God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies!" She pointed her hand at the tank and the air shrieked its displeasure as a beam of sizzling blue light erupted from her body and slashed its way through the guts of the German war machine. She gave a great whoop, so loud she nearly fell off the back of the motorcycle. "No, dammit!" Watchdog yelled. "Don't drain yourself!" "It's all right," Daystar told her a little weakly, "I've got more where that came from..." "Hang on!" Ashley answered, accelerating towards the church. Only seconds to act, and no time to stop! She took aim at a fallen timber, perhaps a large tree near the church that a German shell or vehicle had knocked over, and said a prayer to whatever god was listening that they were going to make it! The bike zipped up the wide truck directly for the stained glass window fortunately already shattered and Ashley jerked the bike up hard, muscles in her arms screaming as the spinning tires took the impact on what was left of the glass. They made a hard landing, Ashley's teeth clacking together painfully as they hit the ground just inside the entrance and she pulled up hard across the church's stone floor, the bike's tires screaming as they pulled up to just below the altar. She distinctly heard Judy yell "God bless America!" behind her.
RocketLord Posted January 23, 2020 Author Posted January 23, 2020 (edited) GM The sisters drove on, the tank exploding after Judy's blast to the shocked screams of the soldiers behind them. Judy lit up the night, glowing as she blasted at her targets, while Ashely kept them safe, at least for now. With the tank near Legatus only slowly starting to come back into action after the fierce blow that had rattled everyone inside it, the soldiers around them started to fire on him, their shots bouncing harmlessly off Legatus while they kept shouting in German, something about der Zenturio and Übersoldaten. They stood little chance against someone they couldn't even hurt, but they kept at it. While Watchdog and Daystar quickly moved on, the soldiers around Forever Boy and Specimen either dove for cover or shot at the two young heroes. While the bullets whizzed past Forever Boy, none managed to as much as hurt Specimen, even if they hit. The beautiful stained glass of the church shattered as the motorcycle crashed through it, before coming to a halt. The church was absolutely filled with people. It seemed that almost the entire village had sought sanctuary within its walls. From the other opposite end of the church, at the doors, a couple of men looked back at the two girls that had shown up, but not for long, before they started trying to push at the door once more. "America?" The priest, a middle-aged man with dark brown hair and a thin face, asked. "You come for us? You come to help? But you are girls! Children!" His English had a heavy French accent, but his shock at the age and appearance shifted to another question. "How did you know? No one cares about us until tonight!" Edited January 23, 2020 by RocketLord
secondling Posted January 23, 2020 Posted January 23, 2020 Legatus The pseudo-clone frowned in irritation at the continued operations of the tank. This is getting frustrating. How the heck am I going to be a worthy successor if I can't even take out a tank? XVIII had seen hundreds of videos of the Centurion in action, but his predecessor had never seemed to struggle as much against these ancient metal things as he was. "Alright, that's it. Time for you to be rendered into junk!" With a burst of angry effort, he slammed both fists into the tank's front armor, punching through it and into its weakened internal systems. He grabbed at whatever systems he could and tore them out of the tank with a roar of satisfaction. "Let's see you try shooting civilians like that, you monsters!"
RocketLord Posted January 23, 2020 Author Posted January 23, 2020 GM There was a crack of thunder. In the same instant, lightning broke from the night sky. The entire church shook, as a hole was blown in the ceiling, and fire quickly began to spread from above. The men at the door struggled still. From his position to the West of the church, Legatus could see that the massive doors to the church had been barred, with a group of Nazi soldiers stationed outside. Yet, something was different. They were not all just rank and file soldiers, two stood out. A woman clad in in a tight black suit, with a read armband. Rather than the Nazi symbol, it sported a black lightning bolt in a black circle. The air around her seemed electrified, while she looked to the sky. The other was a large man in a dark grey unifom, the same red and black lightning bolt in a circle on his chest, but with the colors inverted. His hair and beard was long and red, and he held a massive hammer in one hand, held to the sky, as the thunder roared and the lightning bolt struck the church. High above, a man flew at blinding speeds, descending into the streets where he created shockwaves that blew through houses and blew the fleeing citizens off the streets. The woman by the church looked towards him as he flew, even as he moved almost too fast for the eye to follow. At the frontlines, Specimen and Forever Boy were met with a savage roar as a wolf-man came free from the Nazi troops, tearing towards the heroes, clad in a scaled black unitard. By his side, a tall blonde woman in black and golden armor, with golden boots, bracers and shoulderpads, a purple cape flowing behind her, a golden, winged helmet on her head, a long sword held behind her as she ran towards the heroes. Die Übersoldaten had arrived.
RocketLord Posted January 23, 2020 Author Posted January 23, 2020 Forever Boy A wolf-man in a unitard, and a woman with a golden helmet with wings? They looked quite ridiculous, in a way, but on the other hand, the woman's sword and the wolf-man's claws and teeth looked like they could do some damage. While Ashley and Judy had been most impressive and it was probably a good idea to head to that church, Pan decided that right now, it would probably be best to stay here and keep these two back. Hovering a bit above the ground, he looked to Adam, while he started to weave golden mists between his hands. "Adam, my friend, do you think you can hit those two as hard as you hit that tank?" Oh, he was sure of it. Adam was reliable like that. And of course, he could help with all that. To the confusion of many, the diving planes above disappeared, while Pan held his hands up and blew air into the swirling golden mists between them. In a moment, the mist rolled out, quickly spreading to cover the area, spreading far and wide. Soldiers would pause, unable to see or hear, but for villagers and heroes, it would be another matter entirely. Pan turned to Adam again, and made a slight bow. "Now then, they will not see or hear you coming!"
Thunder King Posted January 30, 2020 Posted January 30, 2020 Adam bolted forward as fast as he could. These weren't soldiers, they weren't rank and file, they were Nazis. They believed in the cause, and he was going to do whatever it took to stop them. He was going to start by punching someone. He settled on Walküre. He reached her and slammed his fist in the side of her head. He was going to knock her out of the fight as fast as he could. These people were dangerous, and he couldn't afford to let this fight tip in their favor.
RocketLord Posted January 30, 2020 Author Posted January 30, 2020 GM With a yell of pain, die Walküre reeled back from the blow to the side of her head. The helmet had protected her from the worst of it, but Adamn was still strong enough to hurt her. Apparently not a feeling she was used to, as she took a second to regain her bearings, before starting to wildly swing her sword around herself, hitting nothing but the fog.. <"Where are you? American monster, stand and fight!"> Unless Adam knew German, he understood little of what she said, but he probably got the gist of it, especially the monster part. The terrible Sea-Wolf howled and charged straight ahead into the fog that surrounded them, thundering straight past Forever Boy and Specimen. Appearances aside, it seemed he had a plan of some sort, and was more than the mindless monster he had appeared to be at first glance. High above, Roter Adler dove towards Legatus, almost falling out of the sky towards the hero, a wide grin on his lips. <"Always wanted to fight the Centurion."> As he passed by Legatus, a powerful shockwave knocked everything around him away, even as it left the teen of adamant. "Scheisse!" Roter Adler shouted, as he continued up into the sky once more.
Avenger Assembled Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 "God cares," Daystar assured the priest with absolute certainty. She pointed to where the crucifix still stood behind the altar. "He's who sent us. We're going to do everything we can to make sure things come out all right." Ashley took cover, using a broken mirror shard to peer out a broken front window at the Ubersoldaten outside. This was of course quite literally a nightmare scenario - the idea that she would get Judy killed thanks to the insane world of superheroing that she'd dragged her into being something that had kept her up in a cold sweat more than a few nights. But one thing about nightmare scenarios was that you prepared for them. She set down the mirror shard and armed an explosive on her belt, then leaned out from behind cover and tossed it outside, a fastball overhand throw that sent it right out what had formerly been a front window and right into Donar and Madame Blitz's faces. As the charge went off with a flat bang outside, Judy yelled from her own position near and behind Ashley, "Just a little longer, boys! As long as they fight us, they're not looking for the treasure!" _The treasure?_ Ashley mouthed to Judy even as the building shook. The First Daughter shrugged, smiling cheekily through her fear.
