Office

There was the faintest of whines and the light flickered for a few second before the door burst opened and one of the goons seeing Kamala made a snap discussion to fire a shot at her. It would have been a potentially deadly shot but mere centimetres from Kamala it seemed to halt in the air, with a faint shimmering, before falling to the ground. Surprised the goon stumbled and fell over Charlie’s tripwire and sprawled to the ground.

Boardroom

In the near quite the shot reverberated through the floor catching the attention of the guards in the room. The lieutenant that had taken over from the leader looked at the remaining armed goons and sent two of them to investigate the attack, just leaving him and another to look after, the apparently, defenceless board-members.

The Scarab III

Kamala never doubted her impromptu force field would work, though she would have liked a few more moments to calibrate things a little. Her batteries were efficient but it wouldn’t last more than a few minutes, they’d have to move quickly. Not having time to work on any kind of offensive method she cast around the desk to find anything she could use on the attacking hostage taker. Her hand found a stapler and without really thinking about its efficiency she grabbed it and threw it towards on of the thugs coming through the door.

With an unexpected accuracy, which surprised even Kamala, the stapler flew true to smack into the forehead of the man, causing the surprised man to go tumbling to the ground.

Alek had remained in place for the last couple of minutes. The man who'd been shot was as stable as he could be now, and the others were, if not calm, at least calmed down enough he did not fear a mistake happening. He closed his eyes, breathed deeply, and listened. He waited. And finally, he recognized the time to strike.

His hand slowly reached into his pocket, and tapped his phone screen in just the right way. Within moments, the lights in the room shut off completely, as did all computers. With it being an internal meeting room, there was no sunlight. The only source of light was the tiny crack under the door; it was only enough to see the vague outline of a foot directly in front of it. But for Alek, that did not matter.

The criminals in this city, so often they thought of the shadows, the darkness, as their ally. As if a few paltry years clinging to the dark corners of an ever-brighter city could make those places truly their own. They had not been raised in the darkness, all bot burn in it. They had not been shaped within the shadows, forged in the gloom into a weapon. Even if Alek had changed what that weapon stood for, it was still there; it was time to unsheathe it.

Less than two seconds after the lights dropped, Alek was in motion; the sound of it was lost in the vocal confusion and concertation of the guards. Moments later, he was between them. The first man lost his chance to cry out in surprise when Alek's hand chopped a pressure point in his throat. The man dropped to the ground, breathing wheezily through a half-clenched windpipe. Nothing lethal, but it induced panic and prevented coherent action for several minutes. The other man was still turning around when Alek's foot slammed the back of his knee. In the darkness, Alek smiled in a way that might make a wolf nervous, as his hands slammed around the man's throat, and on the back of his shirt. The mercenary let out a barely-audible squeak of fear as he was lifted up, then slammed down into the first criminal. Rapid blows to pressure points rendered them both unconscious, and it was less than a minute's worth to tie them up so thoroughly in their "tactical gear" that it would likely the police a quarter-hour to free them.

Their guns were kicked to one side, and Alek returned to his original position before quietly tapping out a sequence on his phone that returned the lights in the room. Acting as if he'd never moved, the young man opened his eyes and turned around.

"Interesting. Everyone alright?"

Nevermore II

The guy fell... and Kamala threw a stapler at the other that took him out.

Charlie froze, just for a second. That was... either that guy was weak, Kamala was strong or that was just an extremely lucky shot. No matter what, there was something more to her than met the eye, wasn't there?

Reaching into his suit case and going for his belt, Charlie pulled out a small gun metal colored ball, quickly rolling it across the ground towards the door. Once it was outside, it released a smoke cover, enough to give everyone pause before entering the room.

At the same time, he pulled into the shadows, away from Kamala and the thugs, vanishing from sight.

Boardroom

The other board-members were surprised by the sudden change in circumstances and were still starting to regain there bearing when there was a clatter of gunfire from further on down the hall. This didn’t matter to the board-members who decided that taking cover was the best action right now. Less obvious to them, not that they’d care right now, was a less noisy whomp of was most probably a gas grenade of some kind.

Office

With his companion going down and the sudden cloud of smoke the second mercenary decided to pull back into the corridor, right in time to see the other two making there way down the corridor towards them. Luckily from the shadows Charlie could see the three meeting up to get up to speed on what had been happening.

Kamala didn’t have time to celebrate her impressive shot as the grenade went off right after. Bemoaning that she didn’t have her goggles with her she decides to duck behind the desk as the opportunity allows.

She wasn’t doing it just to gain some kind of cover, it didn’t really come to mind really, instead she threw open the desk drawers looking for something, anything, that could be used as a weapon or means of defence.

As she did Kamala couldn’t help but plan out some way to summon her power armour to in an emergency, it seemed that it would be a good things to consider for the future.

Alek assessed the situation in moments. Then, he made a decision. He turned to one of the women in the room who'd kept her composure best, and pointed at her.

"You. Call 911. Tell them what's happened. Stay on the line with them, tell them you're doing so so that they can tell you when officers are at the door to this room. Do not unbar the door until they tell you officers are here to assist. Not even for my voice. It's going to be okay. I'm going to one of the security rooms to try and call 911 that way as well. Everyone sit tight."

Before anyone could protest, Alek was out the door and in the hallway. The lights were mostly on out here, but the gunmen were distracted. He had a few moments. Time enough for this task, at least.

He glanced at his phone again, to ensure there were no active cameras in the hall, before moving away and down to a storeroom. The back wall seemed solid, until he tapped random spots in a precise order with particular force. Then, the wall split, revealed as a doorway. He quickly stepped inside and closed the doors behind him. Inside, it was a short passageway to a narrow elevator, practically caked in dust. The drop down took seconds, and was not a much larger room. But the vacuum-sealed "delivery tube", which they'd confirmed functioned before they came today, held a capsule with his suit in it.

Less than a minute later, a door somewhere else opened, and the Raven stalked the steadily-darkening halls of the office building.

Alright, stick to the shadows. Do as Alek had taught him. No suit meant no defenses, which meant Charlie should try to stay away from them, if at all possible. Use any and all advantages he could get... and make sure Kamala doesn't figure out there's more to him than it seemed.

He'd managed to catch a bit of the guy's voice before Kamala took him out. Charlie picked another gadget, another small ball, then threw it out into the room with them.

"I got them! Get in here!"

It sounded like an approximation of the downed guy's voice. A bit hoarse, maybe, like he had breathed in some of the smoke. Hopefully it might trick the rest of the bad guys.

The three terrorist were moving down the corridor fairly cautiously, what with what they’d previously heard, weapons ready for whatever potential trouble was ahead of them. When they heard that one them was in trouble all caution was thrown to the wind and they rushed towards the voice.

Not trying to be stealthy both of the Raven could hear them making there way towards the sound, as well as in the office.

Kamala had taken this pause to duck down behind the desk to quickly check her device was still functioning, for a bodge job she was proud how well it was holding up even if the battery wouldn’t last for a few minutes.

As she worked she wondered what to do next, the sensible thing would be to just sit here and wait things out. After all it looked like a superhero was already on the scene, which was more or less a given in a place like Freedom City.

But she couldn’t just sit here and do nothing when people were in trouble, even if all she had right now was her force field. So she tied her scarf around her face, smelling smoke on the air (and to somewhat hide her identity) before grabbing the largest book to hand to venture out and see what she could do to help.
