So Artificer can see magical energies -- he's got Visual Magic Awareness, and his Goggles add Analytical to all his Visual senses.  Does he see anything unusual in the sandstorm, or the cave?

The entire Painted Desert seems to be saturated with magical energies, including the sandstorm.

 

Nothing particularly seems to stand out about the cave.

Just a clarification that I forgot to put in: They're all expected to use powers at a minimum for the survival trip, so no putting up barriers and whatnot to create makeshift shelter unless absolutely necessary.

What the heck, Leon’s gonna try to identify the years of some of the cars. If he can ID the newest model, might give them a possible year they’re in.

Artificer's using his Create Object -- Create Object 9 (”Alchemy/Transmuted Objects”; up to 9 5-ft. Cubes, Lifting STR 45; Extra: Duration [Continuous]; Flaw: Range [Touch]; PFs: Innate, Subtle, Variable Descriptor 2 [any matter])  {22/22} -- to make a half-bowl/dome shape to separate the cops from us.

Gonna use Extra Effort to stunt something new off his Magic:

 

Nullify Fire Effects 9 (all fire effects simultaneously; Extras: Area [General, Cone, 90 ft. long], Duration [Concentration]; Flaws: Distracting, Range [Touch])  [18/26]

 

And use an HP to nix the fatigue the Extra Effort would impose.

 

And his Nullify check is... 1d20+9: 21 [1d20=12] !
