Hamburg, Germany

Early August, 2021

The journey from Egypt to Germany took 5 hours, even using a top modern Danger International plane. The flight had been largely uneventful, as Veronica and J'onn arrived at the Hamburg Airport. The cloud layer was heavy and oppressive, hardly letting any sun shine through at all.

Once they had made their way through customs, a pair of bikes were waiting for them, ready to continue their journey to the West, to find the map to the missing gem.

Veronica had taken a nap on the flight from Egypt, so was full of energy once they landed. Of course, that energy had to be contained somewhat as they dealt with customs. Thankfully Prudence, and Danger International, had smoothed the path ahead for J'onn, considering he was traveling without a passport.

The pair made their way outside the main terminal towards where Prudence had arranged for the two Danger Cycles to be waiting. Veronica smiled as she saw the two vehicles parked next to each other and made her way towards them, biometric locks activating at her touch.

With a wave of a hand she created the hole in space from which she withdrew a motorcycle helmet as she moved up next to one of the cycles and looked back over towards J'onn. "So, have you ever ridden a motorcycle before?"

Passports? Sure, when you went between planets people wanted to know who you were, fair enough, but going around different places on the same planet, needing to check in and out all the time? What kind of place was the Earth to be like that? Did all those little nation states really try to keep such a tight grip on their citizens?

J'onn could only roll his eyes as Prudence made sure that he would get through customs without one of these "passports".

He whistled at the sight of the bikes as Veronica approached them and asked.

"Throttle, brake, steer? That about do it?" He grinned at Veronica. "Grandpa was a big fan, managed to get something kinda like this set up back home."

Getting up on the bike, J'onn revved looked around, then grinned sheepishly at Veronica. "So, uh... how do I start it?"

Veronica gave a small smile and a nod. "That is about the basics of it. Getting accustomed to shifting your weight can be something of a concern, but if your grandfather had something similar on Korus you could practice on, that should be good enough. In any event, we should be going a steady speed till we get out of the city." The teenage Danger responded as she put on her helmet and climbed onto her bike.

Smiling behind the visor of her helmet, Veronica showed J'onn how to get the Danger Cycle started and the pair started off. As she took the lead, the brunette adventure activated her Danger Cycle's navigation system, to get her the quickest directions to where she had estimated the next clue in this scavenger hunt would be.

J'onn activated the helmet on his suit, rather than put on the actual helmet, but otherwise, he was ready by the time Veronica had shown him the ropes.

It was different. The bikes back home had bigger wheels, for one, to be more useful on the planet's deserts, but he could get used to that. Still, better to let Veronica take the lead.

"So, you got some kind of built in map system, right? Can they link up?"

The Danger Cycle's navigation system made it easy to find the way. It would be a about an hour and a half to drive there, maybe a bit faster if they gunned it.

The ride would be rather uneventful. Maybe they got to talk a bit on the way, share a bit more about what they wished to share, but eventually, they would reach their destination.

They found a group of tall hills by the Elbe river. Not mountains, by any means. At the top of the tallest hill stood a group of giant stones in a circle, each marked with a rune.

"Sure, no problem" Veronica stated as J'onn asked about Cycles' navigation system and being able to share data. With a flick of a switch her Cycle connected with J'onn's and the navigation system activated on a small screen on the handle bar and showed their route.

Veronica kept them at a steady speed, not going too fast initially until she was sure J'onn had a handle on handling the Cycle. Then she gradually increased speed until they were at a good cruising speed. Along the way the teenage Danger shared some information about some of the sites they passed, having been through the area once with her parents when she was much younger.

As they pulled up toward the group of hills, Veronica pulled her Cycle off to the side of the road and powered it down, taking off her helmet and tucking it away into her pocket dimension again. Taking out a small object that looked sort of like a wrist watch, she held it out to J'onn. "Here, a remote control for the Cycle if you need to call it too you for any reason."

She then looked up at the giant stones at the top of the highest point. "Well, that looks like a good place to start."

The Danger Cycle wasn't too different from the bikes back home. Easy enough to control and steer, and it didn't take long before J'onn was catching up to Veronica, racing alongside her.

The Earth wasn't quite what he expected. Everything else was much more silent, for one. He'd expected heroes flying around everywhere from the stories he'd heard out in space, but this was... kinda quiet? Nobody flying around or anything.

He took the wrist watch, attaching it and looking at it. "Got it."

J'onn couldn't see much from down here, but those giant stones just screamed for them to investigate, so, why not follow Veronica's lead? Stepping off the bike, he stretched his arms a bit, before motioning with his head towards the stones. "C'mon, then. I'm just here for muscle, I'm pretty sure you're the expert here."

The trek up the hill was uneventful.

Seven giant stones, large grey slabs stood on top of the hill, each about three meters tall. Each had a single large rune carved into them.

Veronica would be able to read them, as each corresponded to one of the Norid Gods: Odin, Thor, Tyr, Mimir, Freya, Njord and Heimdall.

Nothing about them seemed to stand out from each other. The runes were the only difference. Veronica could not sense anything magic about any of them.
