Timeout

Lawrence was watching FX closely, despite seeming bored by him and spotted two teenage girls approaching. "Good evening, ladies, so nice of you to join us. I sincerely hope you are whitter conversation than your friend here." He called out to them, a charming smile on his face.

He then saw FX tensing, ready to act and the blond teen was surrounded by a ripple do temporal energy as he accelerates himself, letting out a small sigh. "Alright then." He said simply, raising up both hands as a temporal distortion burst out from him in all directions.

However, Lawrence only focused the distortion on the three Starblights in front of him, the temporal wave crashing into each of them, as it harmlessly washed around Baz and everything else in the area.

In an instant, the wave washed over all three of the opposing Sentries and they stalled. The two girls slumped, displaced out of time with where they had been, not quite completely unconscious but not able to fight at the moment. They glared at Timeout as they dropped, struggling; anger the obvious emotion on their faces.

The male, the annoying FX, stalled out as well, but not as severely. He was still moving; possibly only because of his super-speed, but it was very slow, and his cheeky grin turned into a snarl immediately.

"What the heck is this!?" he tried to yell, but in the slow down it more come out as "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat tttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttthhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhe hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeck...."

"Awesome!"

Baz was blazing green in fury, and now that Lawrence had given the flag to act, Baz didn't hesitate. He wanted to wipe that snide grin right off the kids face.

Not much would make Baz cruel, but mocking his appearance touched a nerve that would jangle. It made him dangerous. So black in mood that he even felt a little voice tell him to really let rip - let loose the properly lethal nuclear fires in his belly. But he was sixteen, a kid, and that was a black road he never wanted to go down.

Instead, he leapt on to the rollercoaster structure above them, clinging to it with his amazing cockroach powers.

"Behold! Buzzilla!" he roared, channeling his inner Kaiju.

He exhaled a stream of gamma radiation - his non lethal kind - on the idiots below him.

As the green radiation washed over them, the actual Sentries clearly took it better to Gamma Buzz's irradiated eyes! The one in red somehow forced her displaced body to throw itself out of the way, rolling across the ground to a stop away from the cloud. The Blue one was clearly doused in the radioactive burst, but it crackled against an invisible shield, preserving her from it's worst effects.

The boy did not do so well, but he did not notice, and his inflated ego didn't allow him to perceive why someone would do something flashy and useless- to his eyes, at least-.

"Wha...at is the light show, stinky bug? Trying to paint us to death?" he grumbled out.

Meanwhile, Mizuki had finished her escort of the guards to the security exit, and she could see from her point that across the park a fire work had gone up into the air, a stream of radioactive breath had been unleashed, and a bubble of rippling time had expanded all in the same place. It didn't take a genius to figure out where Lawrence and Baz were with a showing like that.

Once the last security guard is out, she gestures to them. "Run... there's some emergency response vehicles over that way..." She says pointing to where the rescue team was with their co-worker they plucked out of the bay. "Probably the safest place to be."

She crouched down, her rain poncho draped over her body... "Anchors Aweigh...", and lept into the sky.... her aim was to join the fight, but first to make an impressive first impression...

Lawrence had a slight smile of satisfaction as he managed to lock up all three of the Starblights with his opening play. The two female Starblights were significantly hampered, and while FX was not as effected, he was still unable to respond. And then Baz leapt into action.

The radioactive teen was clearly angry, and Lawrence could well understand why, and he did not hold back when he cut loose on the Starblights, bathing the area in green radiation.

So far the two Claremont teens had things under control, but Lawrence knew that could change in a moment, so he had to keep their opponents locked down until Mizuki arrived and the numbers were even.

Still remining where he had been at the start of the fight, the blond teen raised one hand again, sending out another burst of temporal energy, only this time, trying to freeze his opponents in time. As before, the distortion resonated out from him in all directions, but harmless washed over Baz and anything that was not a Starblight.

"Looks like its time for me to leap into action, right Timeout? You know how awesome I am at leaping into action...

...

...Behold!"

Gamma Buzz lit up - his body glowing like a green radioactive tomato. And then he did indeed leap! Straight down, like a falling arrow, or pointy missile, his fist straight out.

"Fear the fist of vengeance!" he added, making something up on the spot that he thought sounded cool.

Baz fell like an angry, radioactive, bug! And he slammed directly into Libra's head as the red wearing woman was still trying to catch herself. She hit the pavement, her head bouncing off it, and slumped. For a moment it seemed like Baz had knocked her cold!

Then, breathing out, she slowly stood up, flames licking around her body as she raised herself up, grabbing her bat with one hand as she rose to her full height and glared at Baz. she had a nasty bruise on her face and her nose looked broken, but she didn't seem to mind the blood flowing out of it.

"You wanna try that again?" she asked harshly. "Kitty! Get up! You're not this pathetic are you!?" She offered no words of support for the struggling Aries.

"We're the Starblights." Libra yelled. "And we're not gonna roll over for any bullies like you!" She screamed at Lawrence and Baz.

There was the sound of a large object rushing through the air before something landed with a solid thump on the boardwalk, someone in a olive drab poncho, slowly rising from their crouched position. Eyes glowing blue.

"Bullies? I'm not the one throwing people over a rail to drown..." She said, looking straight at Libra. "And I'm wearing the better sailor suit."

Torpedo Lass II landed between Timeout and Gamma Buzz and the Starblights, Rising up from her landing spot, tossing her poncho aside, revealing her full costume. Just one problem... she forgot to deflate her dive vest. In her loss of thought planning with the rest of the group earlier she had filled it to capacity... She glared, hoping her moment of cringe didn't distract from the effect of her entrance.

Lawrence watched as Baz leapt to attack one of the punch the Starblight dressed in red, delivering a solid hit, but failing to knock her out. Shaking off the effects of both Baz's punch and Lawrence's time powers, she stood back up defiantly to call them out for starting things.

And then Mizuki arrived, leaping into the middle of the fight and shooting right back on the life-threatening actions of the Starblights than had (unintentionally) brought the Claremont teens into this. Although she made a pretty dramatic entrance, she unintentionally distracted from that somewhat when she pulled off her poncho and still had her life vest inflated.

But Lawrence was not about to let that distract from the fact she had arrived. "Oh, did we forget to mention we had another friend as well? Our mistake." He said with a small smile. "And I would note, I came down here to try to talk, your hyperactive friend over there is the one that decided to start things."

"But, I think I will 'try that again." He then stated, as he once again sent out of burst of temporal energy intended to render the Starblights unconscious (and again wash harmless around his friend and everything else in the area).

With another wave of time moving energy, the Red and Blue Starblights, one who had finally stood up defiantly and one who had done nothing, collapsed into heaps, unresponsive. They had done- and could do- absolutely nothing against the onslaught of the time twisting teen known as Timeout.

But the White one seemed to be made of sterner stuff. Once more, the wave of time pulsed around him, but he held on, continually trapped in the slow down but resilient enough to not fall entirely.

"Thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis..............suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks............." he complained as he continued to try and slowly, eventually, rise up to his feet, struggling all the while.

"Take that, you buncha bastardo's!" yelled Gamma Buzz, slamming his radioactive fists together.

Seeing only one of the vile villains was still standing, Baltazar backflipped, forward flipped, and cartwheeled around his adversary with amazing cockroach speed and cockroach agility.

Then, with a final spin, he drove his fist as hard as he could into the gut of thse Starlight.

"And you can double take that, courtesy of Gamma Buzz!" he yelled as his fist did its radioactive work!

With a thundering series of blows, Gamma Buzz strikes back at his tormentor with a mighty smash! And a crash! and a Boom!

And the Aries goes flying, getting launched across the area by his radioactive fists! He slams into a bumper car, then lands in the kid's train ride, which runs over him with a trundle-trundle-trundle.

Each Starblight's uniform exploded into a shower of twinkling stars, leaving them in their street clothes as they collapsed. But as Aries lays out on the track, a voice echoes from nowhere, followed by an echo from everywhere.

"How embarrassing, but that was inevitable." The voice says. It is quite respectful, perhaps a hint of French in it's accent. "Lord Timeout, I do apologize that FX was such a waste of your time....not that you are one who has to keep track of that. I know that to you this is our first meeting, but to me, we have met so so many times. So please excuse my sudden exit."

And then the three Starblights are gone; and so is their handiwork. Destroyed rides, graffiti, even the park's power being on at all are all removed, leaving the students unharmed and unchanged in it's passing.

Lawrence watched as Baz delivered the knockout blow to FX, sending the arrogant speedster flying through the park. The blond teen did not seem overly surprised when some unknown voice echoed over the park, addressing him in a rather formal manner. In fact, the only thing about the disembodied voice, and the subsequent disappearance of the Starblights and their handiwork, that seemed to trouble the teen was the unknown speaker’s reference to future encounters with Lawrence. A slight frown came to the teen's face at that revelation.

Once the Starblights were gone and everything was restored to how it had been, Lawrence looked over to Mizuki, his slight frown quickly replaced by an apologetic smile. "Sorry, we tried to stall them till you could join us, but that last one was very rude to Baz and decided to start something he was clearly unable to finish."

"Rude? He was a complete..."

Baz bit his words off, trying to refrain from swearage. Instead, he cracked his knuckles. They cracked magnificently.

"...well. He deserved it, that's all I can say. Meanie, nasty, bully. He deserved a kick to the head. More than a kick in the head. And he wouldn't stop, either."

He caught a grip of his fury and gave a few steely breaths.

"Anyway, where the hell did these idiots come from? And whay did they have super powers? And what were they doing here, at this time of day?"

His eyes shuffled left, spying on Lawrence.

"I'm just checking you know the answers to these completely obvious questions. I mean, obviously I know, but I wanted to check both of you know the answers as well!"

"Baz, Please!" Mizuki shouted.

"He's not the only one with ghosts... mine are just more lethal..." She said in a calmer tone.

She starts to walk off, grabbing her poncho. "Whoever this was put lives at risk... almost committed murder, far as I'm concerned they're on the same level as who killed my family... my predecessor..."

She looked down at the deck for a moment. "Either we take this seriously, or live in ignorance till it gets us..."

"Thing is I planned out this entire response... this mission... put the both of you in jeopardy... what if they came at you with higher force? Hmm? Then I show up and I can barely even get a word in while superiors on both sides render my existing in their presence moot?"

"I'm not good enough to be running with you guys. Not by any measure."

Normally Baz's antics where harmless and generally entertaining, able to lighten the mood of a situation. However, in this instance, it appeared Mizuki was particularly bothered by the encounter and snapped at the go-lucky teen.

As Mizuki continued, a dark look came to Lawrence’s face as he listened to her talk about putting them in danger and not being ready. It was only there a few moments, but the blond teen still had a serious expression as he glanced over to his roommate. "Not right now Baz." He said evenly.

He then walked over toward Mizuki. "You are putting too much on yourself Mizuki." He began. "Don't forget, I was fully prepared to walk down here alone to distract them while both you and Baz moved in. Perhaps a bit overconfident, but I also feel I have a good sense of what I can do, and when I should retreat to get help. You did not put us in danger, we voluntarily went into danger. You did what you had to, getting the injured security guards to safety."

Lawrence then reached out to take one of Mizuki's hands. "As for you not being good enough, that is rubbish. You have had your powers a year, less? I have lived with mine all my life, and had the benefit of a host of teachers, including my mother, to help me with them. My mom was not joking in her speech during the holiday party about muddling her way through things when she got her powers as a teen. You remember Johnny Speed from our encounter with Quirk at the start of last month? My mom was just seventeen when she stumbled into a plot by the Tyranny Syndicate that led to her facing Johnny Speed, alone. And she beat him. She has said she did not feel up to it at the time, but she found a way to rise to the challenge. I am certain you can as well."

"Michael has been fairly clear he has some of the same concerns as you, that is the whole reason he wanted to put together this group of us to start doing all we can to train to be ready for whatever might come our way. So, none of us have to just muddle our way through things."

Baltazar's antennae quivered, then sagged. He felt the first film of green radioactive tears on his eyes, but blinked them away fast.

"Don't be silly! You didn't do anything wrong! And even if you did, so what? Like we are going to go through life without making a few mistakes. Thing is, we always got each others backs, right? I don't care how smart La-- Timeout is. I trust him cos he's got my back. And I got his. And yours. And you got mine. And... and I probably missed on out, but you know how it goes!"

"If I suddenly forget how to swim and leap into the water like a fool... ah... not that I ever would do that, or ever have, and anyway I swim fine, but if that kind of thing should happen, I know Torpedo Lass will pull my sorry cockroach ass out of the water, right?"

Torpedo Lass sighed, pulling down her dive vest at the neck. Why she went with a horsecollar type air bladder was beyond her... but at least it worked like her predecessor's... although for a time she needed it more.

"I... I guess you're right." She said, Gamma putting it like that... sort of made sense. "And trust me I got some drown-proofing lessons planned for anyone interested in a few weeks... Spring is coming, so might as well start thinking about swimming season."

She tilts her head. "Say... who's up for dinner? I know a place near campus. Great Italian. Unless Chinese grabs your interests?"

"We gotta get that boat back to the dock first though." She said, leading the group to the side exit the security guards used by pointing to it. "Luckily the boat isn't damaged."

"You know... I found an old shed on campus... looked like it had used to be used for some sort of rowing team when the school wasn't known Claremont, or a home for us kid metahumans. It's old but still usable and empty. Starting to think it could be used as our "club house" as it were. Might be a good place to store some emergency equipment too, in a pinch. Already talked to school staff, thought it'd be a good class project to freshen the thing up, but wanted me to run things by the rest of the study group."

Lawrence smiled as Mizuki seemed to recover from her moment of self-doubt and started towards the exit with her and Baz. As she mentioned going out to get something for dinner, the blond teen gave a small nod. "Sure, but why settle for something near campus?" He stated.

"As you said, we have to take the boat back to the dock we got it from in Bayview and where I parked the SUV, we can easily get across into downtown to go to any of the restaurants along the Waterfront, or over in Riverside." He suggested.

As Mizuki mentioned the shed she had found and gotten permission from the school to fix up, Lawrence chuckled slightly. "I imagine Michael will flip when he hears about this. Sounds good."

"I guess... Just I watch my budget... I got room to splurge, but until I'm 18 the family will states I only get so much a month." She said, scratching her head. "Since I was offering."

"Wait, there's a sushi place on the waterfront not too far from where we parked. Wanna hit that? We can use the time to go over our notes during our trip... before the action, of course."

"Well you got my more than me," said Baltazar. "I haven't got a pair of nickels to rub together. I'm surviving on rats at the moment."

He gave a wink.

Although, as he moved from poverty in Mexico to poverty in the States, Baltazar had eaten rats. His stomach irradiated anything it recieved. As far as Baz knew, he could eat a cup of freezing cold poison laced with acid and he would feel bright as a button.

Fortunately, rat was no longer on the menu.

"But we don't need to eat rats! Someone can buy us all a banquet! Hot dogs! Burritos! And a cherrypop lollipop on the way home!"

His eyes shifted left and right, his antanea shifted.

"As long as we are clear that someone doesn't mean me."

As the teens reached their boat, Lawrence gave Mizuki a grin. "Well, seeing as I am the one that suggested expanding the options, only fair that I pay." He then glanced over to his roommate, grin still in place. "Don't worry, I've got you covered."

"So, totally up to the two of you to choose." The blond teen stated as they pulled away from the dock to head back to the marina where they had rented the boat from.
