behindthebook Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Player name: behindthebook Character name: The Sharp-Dressed Man PL: 6 (90pps) Trade-offs: none Unspent PPs: 0 Height: 5'11" Weight: 160 lbs. Hair: Blond Eyes: Blue Appearance: The Sharp-Dressed Man’s wardrobe matches his name, all Armani and Prada. He has a slender, wiry frame. His blond hair is always neatly styled. His finger nails are neat and clean, him getting a weekly mani-pedi. He’s a good looking, metro-sexual man in his early thirties. While in his Sharp-Dressed Man persona, he wears a donimo mask which always matches his tie. History: William B. Howser was born into a life of wealth and privilege. He was also born a sociopath. Devoid of basic human feeling, Howser committed his first murder at age 13, when he stabbed his family’s maid. When asked why, his answer was as chilling as it was simple, he was bored. Rather then force William to face the consequences of his horrific action, his wealthy father covered up the crime and sent William overseas to an exclusive boarding school in Lisbon. Upon graduation, William travelled to the Philippine Islands, where he studied the art of combat at the feet of Datu AbadayAbalahin, a Filipino master of the knife fighting martial art, Eskrima. As on of AbadayAbalahin’s most gifted students, Howser rose quickly through the ranks, though his American heritage and cold personality made him very unpopular with his fellow students. Eventually, after an altercation with another of AbadayAbalahin’s top students, Howser became bored with schooling. As with his previous bought with boredom, Howser alleviated said boredom through the thrill of homicide. He slit his rival’s throat in his sleep, then departed for America. Due to this despicable and cowardly action, AbadayAbalahin and his students have something of a grudge against Howser. Upon returning to America, William set about claiming what he saw as his rightful place as the head of the Howser family. To accomplish this end, he stabbed his father to death, and planting the knife in the room of his younger brother, James. James Howser was charged with the patriarch’s murder, but never went to trial as he committed suicide while out on bail (actually, William murdered James, but made it look like a suicide). That left only his half-sister, Naomi (the product of their father’s third and shortest marriage) as a potential rival to William’s position. Rather then kill, Naomi and risk suspicion, William took advantage of Naomi’s reputation as something of a party girl. He leaked an embarrassing sex tape Naomi had made with her then boyfriend to the media. With Naomi sufficiently distracted fighting the publication of the tape, William became the new head of the Howser family. He suspects he’ll have to kill Naomi someday, but for now, he somewhat enjoys his half-sister’s antics, so he’s holding off on that decision. William now spends his days over seeing the decline of the Howser family assets, which have suffered greatly from William’s lack of interest. In an effort to stave off boredom, William Howser has adopted the persona of The Sharp-Dressed Man, using his knife fighting skills as a hired killer. His clients, unaware of his already substantial wealth, believe that he is motivated by the money. In truth, The Sharp-Dressed Man is motivated by the thrill of the hunt, and as such will always take on “interesting†contracts. Dr Archeville Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Welcome to Freedom City play-by-post! Please feel free to introduce yourself in the Secret Identities thread (link in my .sig). Background's good, but I'd like it expanded a bit more. Does he have any other family? Who did he train with over in Asia? Did he kill his mentor when he was done with them? Did he develop any rivalries? What does he want out of life? Why does he kill? (Sociopaths need a reason to do what they do, even if it only makes sense to them.) Stats are mostly good, just need a few tweaks here and there. Saves should be written out, like so: Fortitude: +4 (+1 Con, +3) Reflex: +8 (+4 Dex, +4) Will +5 (+0 Wis, +5) Languages should be folded into one entry, like so: Language 2 (Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese; English is native) The bonus he gets from Attractive should be figured in, like so: Bluff 8 (+11, +15 w/ Attractive) Diplomacy 8 (+11, +15 w/ Attractive) Unfortunately, since Attractive does count as effective ranks in the skills, and since a PL 6 character can only have at most 11 ranks in a skill, you cannot have 8 ranks in Bluff or Diplomacy and a rank in Attractive (which adds 4 effective ranks, bringing it up to 12). He probably should have a rank in Benefit (Wealth), so he can afford those man-icures and suits.
behindthebook Posted January 20, 2009 Author Posted January 20, 2009 Welcome to Freedom City play-by-post! Please feel free to introduce yourself in the Secret Identities thread (link in my .sig). Already did. Background's good, but I'd like it expanded a bit more. Does he have any other family? Who did he train with over in Asia? Did he kill his mentor when he was done with them? Did he develop any rivalries? What does he want out of life? Why does he kill? (Sociopaths need a reason to do what they do, even if it only makes sense to them.) Done and done. Stats are mostly good, just need a few tweaks here and there. Saves should be written out, like so: Fortitude: +4 (+1 Con, +3) Reflex: +8 (+4 Dex, +4) Will +5 (+0 Wis, +5) Languages should be folded into one entry, like so: Language 2 (Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese; English is native) No problem. Fixed. Unfortunately, since Attractive does count as effective ranks in the skills, and since a PL 6 character can only have at most 11 ranks in a skill, you cannot have 8 ranks in Bluff or Diplomacy and a rank in Attractive (which adds 4 effective ranks, bringing it up to 12). He probably should have a rank in Benefit (Wealth), so he can afford those man-icures and suits. I adopted a "two-birds with one stone" aproach here and dropped the Attractive to add Benefit. I believe that's everything then. . .
Dr Archeville Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Looks good, here's your first approval.
MBCE Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Okay. Here we go. Mad a formatting change to list the #ranks bought in the Skills area. This helps us for later. Under feat, I put teh Knife infor next to the Equipment line to make things easier for Refs to look at. Also listed the totals in the format we prefer. You do realize that the site is mostly a "Silvery-age" themed game. Try not to go over board with the killing and remember to keep your posts to a respectable level. Approved
