Dec 1st, Mid Morning

Somewhere in the sky

The plane was small, luxurious. It had everything but a jacuzzi. Paper, Multi-Girl (all of her) and Shadowborne were flying to Las Vegas!

Why?

Eccentric multi-millionaire Kosi Eze was flying them. In her own private jet.

Kosi Eze, the worlds biggest (certainly the richest?) fan of the Young Guardians. She was offering them media contacts, a photoshoot, exposure, all fully paid up!

Along with the plane, there was with a rather nervous young red headed woman in dark glasses and a tight jacket called Kim. She would probably be a beautiful woman, but somehow her nerves dissolved her looks in a tight, fretful mess.

Kim made sure the three young heroes got the best of everything. Lobster, Oysters, Kaviar, Champagne. Apparently Kosi Eze was a HUGE fan of theirs, wanting to give them a media / public platform. It was an all expenses luxury trip to Las Vegas - great exposure. Bernadette would have plenty of opportunity to make contacts for her band.

"Anything I can get you?" asked Kim, making notes on her tablet. "We are landing in about 20 minutes. Stretch Limo waiting to take you to your Hotel. Kosi will meet you there. She can't wait!"

Not that long ago, Bernadette O'Connell would have been much more awed by the luxurious aircraft she found herself in along with Leon and Murine. But over the last year she had gotten a bit accustomed to the mansion Charlie had set up for the Young Guardians, and while her band did not often travel with this level of accommodations, they were certainly getting a taste of it with some of their travel for performances.

So, the Irish redhead was rather relaxed as she sat in her seat during the flight, wearing the skintight green, white and orange full bodysuit and mask she wore as Multi-Girl. A part of her wishing they could have just taken the Young Guardian's jet instead; they probably would have been there already.

Instead, she was thinking about the reason they were even on this trip at all. While the Young Guardians did not exactly shy away from media attention, they also did not actively seek it out. At first, Charlie had been a bit reluctant to have any of them accept the invitation from Kosi Eze. But, he did ultimately agree, wanting the three to investigate some, as the offer seemed a bit suspicious. Unsurprisingly, Charlie had done some extensive research on Eze, and briefed the three on what he had found before they left.

"I'm fine, thank you." Bernadette replied with a smile as she looked over to Kim. "So, have you worked fer Ms. Eze long?"

Muirne was not accustomed to flying. Her method of travel between England and America was the teleportation room in the embassy. The only other times she had been in a plane were the Young Guardian's Jet and to and from Rurland before she went to Claremont. As such she had spent a decent chunk of the flight staring out the window.

None of her previous flights matched the luxury of a private jet. (Well, the seats in the jet were probably more comfortable, but she was pretty sure Charlie had cheated somehow. The seats were probably custom fitted to each member.) And unlike Bernadette she just could not seem to get comfortable with the luxury.

As such her nerves had started to fray almost as soon as the wonder of the view had started to wear off. Normally Aoife would be chastising get for her weakness, but her other self was also uncomfortable with this level of glitz and glamour. So she had accepted the offer of some liquid courage, gently holding a wine glass in a gauntlets hand. She looked out of place, blackened chainmail glinting in the light of a luxury vehicle. She cleared her throat, "What is it she likes about us? Enough to do all this?" A gesture with her free hand encompassed the whole jet.

“Who cares? Just enjoy it while you can”

Leon chimed in from the seat he was currently lounging in. He was exactly ‘used to luxury’ but he’d be damned if he wasn’t able to take advantage of it.

“Let the rich lady wine and dine us.”

Like the others, he was in his ‘work clothes’. A white hoodie, open over the black and red-trimmed short sleeved bodysuit. A body suit he’d found in his room not too long ago. At least Charlie had kept his color scheme. A white scarf-like wrap around his neck completed the outfit.

Paper sat up in his seat and leaned forward, a mischievous twinkle in his eye.

“I’m more curious what kinda dirt our little friend here can share about this mysterious benefactor, hmm?”

He gave Kim a impish grin.

The plane was starting its descent; the first hint of accumulating air pressure in the middle ear could be felt by all three.

Kim gave a practiced smile. "I'm sorry, I can't speak for long. We are about to descend. But as for Ms Eze... well, she is lovely, but a bit..."

She shrugged. "Enthusiastic. Energetic. Honestly, I sometimes think she should have been an English gentleman in the 1920s. And why does she like you guys? I don't know. Youth, maybe? Energy? Or its just one of her whims. She throws herself into whatever takes her fancy!"

Kim settled down in a chair and buckled her own belt.

5000 feet. Halfway through descent.

BOOM!

A shockwave ripped through the cabin. Safety pamphlets flew across the air. Drinks sloshed and spilled. Glass split and fractured.

Then, the sound and feel of cold air in the cabin. Hairstyles would no doubt be ruined.

"Assume brace position!" came the voice of the captain through the intercom. "One of the engines blown!"

Those bold enough to peek through one of the broken windows would see the left engine in flames, belching black acrid smoke, the wing fuselage peeling off.

And the feel of the the descent accelerating... the plane turning, threatening to spin.

Bernadette had been quiet as Kim did not really respond to her or Murine's questions. The redhead had not really expected too much in a way of an answer, and while not overtly suspicious, it still did not help ease any of the overall suspicion that there was for this entire trip.

She had turned away to wait for them to finish landing…when all hell broke loose.

The Irish young woman initially grabbed her armrest tightly, almost breaking it with her strength before relaxing slightly and starting to take in what was happening. "Bloody 'ell." She muttered as she heard the air starting to escape the cabin and the wing starting to lose important parts that allowed for any lift.

"Paper…see if you can do anythin' ta fix the wing so a controlled crash might be possible." She called out looking over to Murine. "You might need ta be ready to teleport as many as you can away."

The redhead then stood up and tried to make her way to the cabin to see if she could assist the pilot in trying to regain some measure of control over the aircraft….

Leon smirked at Kim’s description of her employer, lounging carelessly in the cabin seat. The sudden sound of an explosion wiped the smirk away instantly and Leon grabbed the seat reflexively.

“The fu-?”

He managed as the plane trembled in the air and the pilot’s announcement echoed in the cabin.

“Sh*t!”

He cursed

“On it.”

He gave Multi-Girl a short nod as he crossed the small space to look out the window for himself.

Squinting against the wind rushing in through the broken window, Paper quickly assessed the wing. The engine was spitting flames and the wing was starting to peel like a bad sunburn. It was bad but not a complete write off.

Paper sealed the broken window with a couple sheets and quickly moved up the cabin to the exit.

“Strap in tight!”

He yelled back as he grabbed the emergency handle. Paper popped the door, securing it with paper to keep it from flying off. The rush of cabin pressure equalizing tried to pull him out of the plane, but he held on with his paper hand. He eyed the damaged wing and went to work.

A whip of paper lashed out across the wing, leaving a trail of paper in its wake across the tearing fuselage. The paper engulfed the flaming engine to suffocate the flames before they could spread, while the rest of it stiffened as it tried to flatten and reinforce the structural integrity of the wing.

Shadowborne

Muirne had been halfway through a sip of wine when the explosion happened, the pressure wave and her own jolt causing the glass to shatter in her face. She called her shadows forth into a partial transformation even as she spat out glass and wiped wine from her eyes. She quickly checked and was relieved that she could sense her friends and their hosts with her life-sight even as she was finally getting the stinging liquid clear of her face. She was relieved to see that they were alright.

She licked blood from a cut on her lip as Bernie took charge. "I'm on it!" She replied, already trying to work out how she could get them out of the plane if it went down. She couldn't fit all of them in the pocket she had formed in her connection to the Schattenwelt, and all her other options featured dragging her friends and two civilians to the Schattenwelt. Still, it beat all dying in a plane crash.

So decided, she pulled her shadows away from her body to gather them in her hands, an iris of shadow forming, ready to spring forth into a portal at her command.

"Brace brace brace BRACE!!!!" screamed the captain over the intercom.

Looking through the shattered window, the three young heroes could see Las Vegas whipping underneath them. Ahead..

Yes, you guessed it.

Ahead was the EIFFEL TOWER (replica). The plane was heading for a crash with the tip!

Meanwhile, Papers paper crawled over the shredded wing. So far, so good. And then the burning engine flames licked the paper, and a greater inferno started! Paper could create more paper... but could he create it fast enough to smother the engine?

To make matters worse, the plane was rolling and spinning, sending champagne glasses tumbling through the air. It was hard to stay on your feet, let alone use amazing paper powers!

Meanwhile, the amazingly amazing Multi-Girl reached the cockit. Locked. No matter! Bernadette ripped the door open like it was made of, well, paper.

The pilot glanced back, face awash with sweat, both hands gripped on the steering wheel with white knuckles.

"Losing control..." he gasped, hyperventilating.

Bernadette had been momentarily concerned when she saw blood from Murnie's lip after the violent decompression. But thankfully it seemed minor as the other redheaded young woman responded she was ready if they needed to teleport away.

Leon quickly moved into action as well as the Irish young woman moved forward, her acrobatics training helping her maintain her footing. The door to the cockpit was only a brief delay, as she was able to force open to find the pilot in serious trouble trying to control the plane.

"Got it." She replied as she quickly moved over to the co-pilot’s seat, taking the controls that were there to try and help the pilot regain control…

Paper

Paper cursed as the flames ate through the paper as fast as he commanded it. The wing was solid but he couldn’t force the paper to resist the engine fire long enough. The young hero yelled around the corner into the cockpit.

“We still have a wing but the fire’s still going. I’ll try to keep the wing in place so it doesn’t drop on the streets, but it’d be real nice if you got us on the ground in one piece.”

He looks over at Shadowborne and tries to reassure her.

“I’m sure they can get us down, but if they can’t stabilize us you got this right.”

Paper glanced out at the wing again and more paper whipped out to reinforce a few more cracks. He looked over at Kim.

“You okay over there?”

He called over to her.

The cold fog of Shadowbourne, the crisp paper of paper - both swarmed over the burning engine, mimicking the classic rock-paper-scissors game.

For a moment, the fire seemed to snuff out, leaving only acrid smoke pluming from the wreck of an engine. And then with a Bmmwhff! the engine exploded again, tearing away is paper snare, the flames burning brighter than ever.

"Me?" screamed Kim, seatbelt on, brace position assumed. "I'm just about ready to -"

Another whumph of exploding gas from the engine drowned her out.

" - my pants!"

Meanwhile, in the cockpit, Bernadette grasped the co-pilots instruments and wrestled the plane level again. There was no doubt they were in for a bumpy landing, at best, and in the middle of las vegas. But at least they were not crashing into the eiffel tower, and being thrown about like a canoe in an ocean.
