The Serapeum of Alexandria
Alexandria, Egypt

As could often be the case working for Danger International, and with Veronica in particular, Lulu Beaumont and Davyd Palahniuk never knew when they might get called to travel to some far corner of the world to help with some humanitarian crisis or investigate some ruins or any number of other situations that might confront employees of the company. Today they were in Egypt, having been called in to investigate the disappearance of the head of an excavation at a site in the city of Alexandria.

Veronica had teleported the trio right into the location, a large area of ruins covering nearly two football fields of land right in the heart of modern Alexandria. Several tall apartment buildings and other high rises lined the area around the site, while the site itself resembled others Lulu and Davyd had visited since joining Danger International around the world. Baren dirt and sand, with several trenches dug in various locations to excavate areas deemed of interest. Ruined stone foundations for walls, columns and other structures could be seen around the immediate area, providing the basic footprint for whatever structures might have once stood in this location.

And as with some dig sites, there were a few ancient structures still standing, and this site had one no less impressive. Not far from where Veronica had teleported them was a giant Corinthian column that must have been close to ninety feet high.

"Welcome to Alexandria." Veronica stated with a small smile as she looked back at her friends. As was typical, the brunette was dressed for the outdoors, and the relatively cool January weather, brown cargo pants, a grey T-shirt, over which she had a long-sleeve shirt that she had left open, and her well-worn cargo boots.

Glancing back at the massive column, Veronica continued. "Pompey's Pillar, although it was actually built to honor Emperor Diocletian." She said, her slight French accent a bit more pronounced than it had been in high school given she had spent the last three and a half years studying in Paris (when she was not trapsing around the world). "One of the largest monolithic columns ever built." She glanced back at Lulu and Davyd. "The central shaft is a single piece of granite, not stacked drums, the more typical method of construction for Roman and Greek columns."

Turning away from the column Veronica gave Lulu and Davyd a small smile. "Well, ready to get to finding the trail to our missing archeologist?"
