Winter had come to Freedom City, with the weather getting much colder. This Friday night was no exception, with some traces of snow from earlier in the week still visible throughout the city. As it was the start of the weekend, that meant many students at Claremont Academy finding time to go out and try to find a fun way to spend a bit of free time away from schoolwork. One such student was Mattie Hopper.

 

With her roommate out on a double date, Mattie had gone around their floor to find some of their friends to head out with her to see what there might be to do down near the Bayview Mall. She had managed to get Sarah Thatcher and Daphne Celeste to join her.

 

The trio had caught a bus down to the mall, but as they drew near, their attention was drawn to a location nearby the mall, a large building with a sign that read: Ker-Pow! Amusement Center. Getting off the bus, the three teenage girls made their way back towards the building, finding a crowded parking lot and dozens of people making their way into and out of the building. Inside was large open space with bright florescent lights, pictures of members of the Freedom League (both current and former members) were everywhere inside. From what they could see, there was an arcade, a laser tag arena, a mini-golf course and even a go-kart track!

When she was travelling to Earth, the media she watched made it seem like a magical place, and even though that was a lifetime ago, the real thing still had an allure. It was almost as good as an Arcade, and there was one of both in the same place!

 

She remembered to dress up for the cold weather, even though she didn't personally feel it. She wore a big puffy jacket over a cute pair of overalls and chunky boots. It wasn't exactly cutting-edge fashion, but it was just good enough to make her (hopefully) look good.

 

"So where should we start? I want to do just about everything!"

"This is a-ma-zing!" Mattie exclaims once they're inside, twirling around to get a look at everything around them. "Look! Look! That's Lady Liberty, right there! We met her at the christmas party! And that's Velocity! And and..."

 

She is wearing a large puffy purple jacket, a dark grey wool cap pulled over her ears, a large thick scarf with a zig zag black and white pattern, a pair of jeans and heavy black boots. 

 

She's happy to be hanging out with some of the other girls. She haven't spent a ton of time with either Sarah or Daphne, and it's so great to get to become better friends with more people.

 

"Me too!" she responds to Daphne with all the excitement of a kid let loose in a candy store. "But go-karts first! Gotta be go-karts!"

Sarah was a bit more subdued than either Daphne or Mattie, but followed after the pair as Mattie took the lead in leading them to the go-karts first. The trio crossed through a large open area between the various sections of the amusement center to get to the go-kart track on the far end. The open area was filled with of seating and several different food stands, along a gift shop where prized could be purchased with tickets won in games in the arcade. 

 

Soon enough the three girls were standing in line for the go-karts, watching the karts zoom around the track. There seemed to be at least two different birthday parties worth of elementary school aged kids along with a mix of other teens and even a few young adults in the line. 

 

It just so happened that they ended up just behind a group of three teenage boys that looked about their age. The boys at first seemed to have not noticed the three Claremont girls, but it was not long before the apparently had, although none immediately sought to interact. After the first birthday party group got their turn on the track, one of the boys turned around and looked to the three girls.

 

"Uh, hi there. We haven’t seen you around before, do you go to Joseph Clark high?" He asked, seeming slightly nervous.
