Thevshi Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Rai Ki Wai Estate Wakaya Island, Fiji Saturday, February 15, 2025, 8:34 AM local time With Freedom City New Jersey facing another cold winter, Lawrence Harrow (along with his adopted sister Lynn Conners) had once again arranged for a trip for many of his fellow classmates to his parents’ estate on private island in Fiji. This time they would take advantage of the long weekend with President’s Day on Monday the 17th, to give them a little extra time. Given the increased number of students that would attend this year, the logistics of planning the trip had taken a bit more time than the prior year. This included an alternate form of transportation to the island for those that were leery of risking a long-distance portal, which had proven dangerous on the trip back last time. But for those willing to take the risk, they had gathered in the Main Quad at school with their luggage, and Lawerence created a portal in time and space which instantly took them from the east coast of the United States to the small South Pacific Island in an instant. The blond teen was already wearing a t-shirt and board shorts, along with a pair of aviator sunglasses, as he exited the portal, a small duffle bag over one shoulder. Although still relatively early in the morning, the air was already at least a warm and humid seventy degrees and getting warmer and more humid as the sun continued to rise into the sky. The teens that emerged from the portal found themselves on a massive wooden deck, with several small tables with chairs scattered around it. There were also multiple lounge chairs around the deck, many of them near the long pool that stretched along one side of the deck, separating it from a large, two-story building. The upper floor of the building had a covered balcony that stretched around the visible exterior and led to covered walkways that connected to smaller nearby buildings. All in all, it looked like a high-end resort but appeared completely empty save for the group of Claremont students. Around the exterior of the deck were palm trees and other tropical plants, which gave way to a large well-manicured lawn that gently slowed down hill away from the deck. About a hundred or so yards the law ended at jungle, with a couple paths visible in the tree line. And further out could be seen the clear blue waters stretching out as far as could be seen. "Welcome to Fiji, or for some of you, welcome back." Lawrence said as he turned to the gathered teenagers that had emerged from the portal. "For those that have not been here before, this is obviously the deck and pool." He stated as he gestured around them before pointing towards the large house opposite the pool. "That is the main house pavilion, which is, along with the two guest suite pavilions on the opposite side, where the ladies will be sleeping while we are here. The boys and I will use the three bungalows that are a little way down that path." he added, pointing to a path to the left of the main house. "Again, the only area off limits is the master bedroom pavilion," he continued, pointing to the visible small building connected to the main building by a covered breezeway. "Also, no messing with the security systems and if you want to leave the compound, please do so by one of the gates, either on the main road or along a path, so that you won’t trip the security and thus us having to end up with my mom dropping by in a minute or so to check on us." "The beach is down that way," He continued, turning away from the house and pointing across the groups towards one of the paths that seemed to lead towards the water beyond. "Over that way is a tennis court, which can be lit at night. The staff has the weekend off, so will not be bothering us, but they have stocked everything up for us. So, settle in, relax and the others should be arriving in not too long."
The Sailor Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Mizuki Iwasaki She wasn't Torpedo Lass... not here. Today she liked it that way. She stretched out as she sat the inflated yacht drybag and the massive orange airtight and waterproofed backpack she had on beside the pool. She looked over at the shack, seeing her inflatables from last year and the pump were carefully stowed away out of light for the time she was away. She spoke up for a moment after Lawrence's briefing concluded. "I got some extra stuff from last year stored if anyone is interested in having some toys or boats for the beach or pool. I left a lot of stuff from last year stowed up over in that shack by the pool. Got a solar charged pump too, might need to set it outside a couple hours before puffin' things up. Ask me if you wanna use the surplus rafts, they take a little more finessing with the pump than some of the less expensive floats. Got a couple life vests too in there if anyone needs them. No shame in using them. Even if it's to just float while watching fish as you snorkel." She stretched, with a smile. "And don't forget I'm fully PADI certified so if anyone needs a diving partner who doesn't need a extra oxygen tank, I'm game." "Althoooough this afternoon Lawrence and I are gonna check a place out for a few hours. A little tropical island. I might be out of reach most of that time." She said, turning her head to Lawrence, suggesting he'd have to put one and one together.
Lone_Star Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Prime Mover Owen was a little leery of going through the portal, but he knew that his date (they weren't quite a thing yet) would prefer that over the alternative, taking a supersonic spaceplane. He took a deep breath and walked through the portal, reminding himself that it was just like Battlespace 2000. "Warp me up," Owen said quietly to himself. He arrived on the other side, and smiled as he realized he was okay! There were...rumors about the last time the teens tried to use the portal. But his budding relationship with Kadene had taught him much in their short time together, and Owen was willing to try it. Hell, he couldn't imagine himself wanting to go to Fiji, of all places before he met her. He had learned so much and experienced so many new things since moving to Freedom City, and gotten so far outside of his comfort zone that it would be surprising if there was even one left at the end of his schooling. As it looked like he was the second student to arrive, he took a moment to look around. It was truly a paradise, and the warm weather was a balm to his senses. They sure don't have weather like this in Badger Bluff! Owen was dressed in a Packers swimsuit with a matching Hawaiian shirt and comfortable sandals. He had one small suitcase he brought with him, having decided to pack light. For once, he was less aware of his power vest concealed beneath his shirt, he was having so much fun. He listened carefully to Lawrence's instructions, as he was a guest in his home. He hadn't met him before, but had become good friends with his adoptive sister, Lynn. The other student, whom Owen presumed was Lawrence's girlfriend based on their interaction, offered pool toys. He smiled broadly, grateful for their hospitality. "Thanks, both of you. This is gonna be a lot of fun! I'm Owen, by the way. Owen Akerlund," he said, extending his hand to both of them. "I think the hard part's gonna be figurin' out what I do first!" His enthusiasm (hopefully) covered up any nerves he felt being in a different part of the world. But the vibe was good, his friends were here, and there was a whole lot of sun to soak up.
Poncho Posted January 11 Posted January 11 (Golden Star, and Sam) If Michael was concerned about the portal, he didn't show it. Really, though, he had decided the portal made more sense than the ship to him because, if something did happen, he'd want to be there. He'd learned his lesson from last time, and his realization that cold and heat were slight bothers to him meant he had shown up in a tanktop and swimtrunks- color coded to his white and red super suit-, carrying his luggage and Carmen's. It wasn't a problem for him, after all. "Sun and surf again. Man. Being at Claremont has it's advantages. So does being friends with the Harrows." He said with a laugh. "Thanks for bringing us Lawrence." He said with a grin. "Yeah, thanks. I thought Mikey was making all this up." Said the third member of Michael's group. Sam had requested as politely as she could to come along. Ater finding out about the last portal issue, she'd been insistent on coming along to look after Mkchael. She had been on what passed for best behavior from her- nowhere near Michael's nearly impeccable behavior, but she was trying- to get Lawrence to let her come. And now she was here in a long t-shirt for the Freedom Comets Baseball team over a red and geeen bikini and looking much more a part of the group than before. "Your family owns this whole island?" She asked Lawrence.
Thunder King Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Ryan Ryan was well familiar with teleportation, so it was an easy decision to make. He wore a plain black tank top and a pair of dark blue shorts. He wore a cheap pair of sunglasses that he picked up at a department store a few weeks prior. He had dyed a streak of electric blue in his hair that contrasted with the dark brown of the rest of his hair. He had an old ratty duffel bag full of miscellaneous random clothing items that he thought he might need, plus a few toiletries including the strongest sunscreen he could find. He was naturally pretty pale, and did not want to risk a burn. His only other luggage was a brand new (albeit inexpensive) guitar case, inside which was an acoustic guitar he had purchased as a birthday present for himself. As well as a few picks and some spare strings in case he needed them. He smiled. "Thanks for bringing us here again, man, I really appreciate it. Last time we were here was the first time I'd ever been out of the northeast. Other than a trip to DC once and a couple a trips to NYC, I've hardly ever been out of Jersey." He felt much more comfortable around his friends than he had last year. Of course, he could also feel the presence of his sword, ever ready in case he needed it.
Dracostern Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Cerebral and Cerebellum Daniel was excited to go back to Fiji, he had fun last time, accident non-withstanding, so he was ready this time! The young man was wearing simple boardshorts and a thin shirt. Looped under his arm was a bag fill of equipment, towels, even some food he managed to bring with him for everyone to share. To say he was overly prepared was a bit of an understatement. After a rater rough year, this was needed! Iris, meanwhile, was a bit suspicious. She remembered quite clearly what happened last time. Yet she would not stop her brother, or herself, from going. She was just a little on guard. The sister wore a swimsuit as simple as her brother's. Purple bikini with shorts over the bottoms. Under her hand was a book she was planning on reading, she also had an umbrella and beach chair floating behind her. Once they arrived at the Estate, both twins turned to Lawrence and nodded towards him. "Thank you for inviting us again." They spoke at the same time. Iris would head out towards the deck to set up her chair and book almost immediately, taking Daniel's bag with her to keep everything in one place. "We hope you two have fun." Daniel would smile at Mizuki and Lawrence.
Thevshi Posted January 11 Author Posted January 11 Timeout Lawrence gave Owen a small smile as the younger teen came over to thank him and formally introduced himself. While Lawrence had seen Owen around campus and generally knew that he was one of the sophomores in Lynn’s group of friends, it was correct they had not really interacted or met. "Very nice to meet you formally Owen." The older teen said as he shook the offered hand, speaking with his upper-class British accent. There was a slight resemblance between him and Lynn, like one might expect of siblings, but it was the eyes that drove home the connection. Like Lynn, Lawrence had bright blue eyes that seemed almost to burst with energy. He then glanced to Michael, giving him, Carmen and Sam a smile as well. "Of course Michael." He replied before turning to Sam to answer her question. "Not the entire island. The northern end has a different owner, and there is a small resort and village where the staff of the resort live. My parents just bought this compound and its grounds, which is most of the southern and southwestern part of the island." Lawrence then looked over to Ryan, Iris and Daniel as they all exited the portal and thanked him for inviting them as well. "Of course, glad you all wanted to come again after the mishap on the return trip last year." The blond teen replied with a small smile.
RocketLord Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Spaceman No matter how things had turned out last time, they had a good time before the things that happened on the way home... and what was the odds of that happening again? Parker could make it under his own power, but he still wants to show his friend that he trusts him, and so, he stepped through the portal and appeared on the island, near the rest of his friend. Given his powers, the cold back in Freedom didn't bother him much, so he had been wearing a white tank top and a pair of black bathing shorts with a gold stripe pattern on the legs, even before he stepped through the portal. "Looks as great as last year, Lawrence," he says with a smile. He's used to being outside Freedom, more than many of the others, at least. "Don't worry, Lawrence. I'm sure nothing like that will happen this time."
EternalPhoenix Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Serendipity and Stormchild Captain Riel Estime and his First Mate and sister Kadene had come through the portal as well. It seemed far safer than some flying mechanical deviltry. Powers they understood. And while they listened politely to Lawrence, the instant he was finished speaking Kadene shot into the air. Riel only laughed. "Someone should tell her what the flight ceiling is. It's been months she could-" he caught some fluttering fabric that vaguely resembled Kadene's usual style of slitted long skirt "-fly with the sun on her skin." Riel himself wasn't dressed any differently than normal, with the exception of no concessions to the cold today. Loose shirt, regular pants, boots, and yes, his sword. Swashbucklingly piratical as usual. He was also carrying both twins' bags and Kadene's sword on his back. "She'll stop before the air gets thin, but that might actually be lower on your world than mine." He regarded Mizuki. "I appreciate the offer, but both of us will be declining. We're terrible swimmers. Anchors in human form. You understand."
Lone_Star Posted January 12 Posted January 12 (edited) Prime Mover Owen noticed Ryan's guitar case. He recognized the young man from orientation day, and was pretty sure he had a guitar then, too. "Hey, man! It's been a while. I'd love to hear you play sometime, if you're feelin' it." He smiled as the twins teleported in, too. He had gotten to know them quite a bit better with their recent experience with Quirk. "Daniel, Iris. Good ta see you two under better circumstances." Although he would never admit it, it was a weird kind of fun being trapped in various TV shows. Stressful, but fun. Owen could definitely see Lawrence's resemblance to his sister as he shook his hand. "Well this'll definitely be one of the best vacations I've ever been on," he said with a big smile. Other teens were starting to arrive rapidly as well, among them a young man in a black bathing suit he had seen but not met before. There would be time to meet everyone soon enough - his class was full of interesting people! Speaking of interesting, the other twins, his roomie Riel and twin sister Kadene just arrived. He walked over and clapped Riel on the shoulder, grinning broadly. "Well, Captain, does this feel more like home?" His gaze softened as he turned towards Kadene. "Hey, Kadene - oh" he said as she took off. "...we'll catch up later." Edited January 12 by Lone_Star
MoonSimply Posted Sunday at 05:50 AM Posted Sunday at 05:50 AM La Puma Negra Even if the travel using the portal was near instantaneous, Carmen couldn't help but stretch out in her long yellow sheer dress, as if it was a very long trip that she had just had. A bit of a yawn was added in, rolling her head on her shoulders, Carmen would brush back the long wild hair of hers before adjusting the one bag on her shoulders that she kept upon her left shoulder. Since the troubles through the Summer and the first part of the school year, the young feline like heroine had mellowed herself down a bit, even if she could be a bit rough around the edges and shy with folk she didn't know or where Michael, who was standing next to her and kindly was holding her bags. Sam had tagged along with them, a friend of Michael's. While she found Sam perfectly fine, she was still somewhat confused with how she was friends with the more clean-cut Michael. "So what's the plan, the beach? I'm sure everyone else is probably over there by now," Carmen says, looking over to Michael. She was following his input for what to do. There was no galivanting on the first day off into the jungle of the island with a little a care in the world. That'd be another day for her to relax and get that supposed bonding with nature done and out of the way with. A sort of communing that was in need letting her destress. Of course, the first thing she wanted to do was spend time with Michael, do things together and not have to deal with some sort of grand and terrible threat to their persons, something that was true until they had to go home. They just had to be sucked up into some dastardly multidimensional plot that went across time. Even to this day she still wasn't sure what she saw, and it lingered in her heart heavily. This weekend would be a chance to get away from it as tossed over her bag to the side clung over to her boyfriends shoulder, "Let's just toss that all aside and grab em later, ¿Entiendes?"
Poncho Posted Sunday at 10:33 PM Posted Sunday at 10:33 PM (Michael and Sam) "Only a part of an island." Sam said with a grin. "Alright, got it." she said. "So not quite 'own an entire island' rich, just 'own like a third of an island' rich." she waved her hand. "No problem no problem." "Be nice." Michael noted. After that was Ryan. "Ryan, are you gonna perform for us on the beach at night? That'd be a lot of fun, a little live music performance." Michael said to the magic sword student. "Maybe Lynn brought her violin too and we can listen to you play a Hard Rock Orchestral remix." he grinned. "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor preformed by the Freedom Junior Orchestra." The two watched the little interaction between Owen, Stormchild, and Serendipity, but Sam had nothing less than total agreement with Kaedene heading off. "See! That's what I like to see in under classmen. Someone actually having fun instead of getting all stuck up and stumbling." Sam said with an enthusiastic clap. "Someone having fun!" "...I...yeah. Someone should probably just make sure she's okay, but I'm sure she's fine. No need to go rushing after he just yet." Michael said, relaxed about the whole thing. But Carmen's statement to drop the bags and just get going made Sam quite happy, as she discarded both her bag and her shirt to leave her in her swimsuit. "Come on Carmen, Michael's such a goodie that he'll probably get distracted, but we can scope out the beach before he gets there. You haven't been back in a full year, right, so who knows what's happened." Michael sighed and seemed exactly like he was going to do that. "It's not a big deal Carmen, I'll drop your stuff off and ours. It can be a little bit of at trek to get down to our bungalows, but I can make it pretty fast. Though I am almost certain that either Lawrence or Parker is about to open a portal to drop off the male bags, because they always tend to do that." he cut his eyes to the side. "Once those are handled, we'll go to the beach." he agreed, trying to keep Sam under control. He didn't mind as much what Carmen did, because Carmen could take care of herself.
RocketLord Posted Tuesday at 08:51 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:51 PM Spaceman With the pirate girl flying up into the sky, Parker looks up after her for a moment, using his hand to block the sun. The other pirate, the boy, doesn't seem worried, so she'll be fine, and at least it sounds like Sam likes to see someone having fun. Can't say he blames them. Part of him wants to fly up there too, but he'd like to go for a swim as well. "Hey, I don't do portals," Parker says with a smile, as he follows Carmen, Michael and Sam, "But just tell me where you want things and I'll drop them off." He's happy to help, of course, and if sticking close to each could help with Michael and Sam's arguments, especially with Carmen being there too, then that would be great. And who knows, maybe Sam will give him less of a cold shoulder? Holding his hands out, he waits for responses and any luggage that anyone gives him, then takes a step forward, closing the distance between there and the rooms, drops the luggage off and takes another step to return. "There, all done."
Thevshi Posted Tuesday at 09:35 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 09:35 PM Lawrence (Timeout) If Lawence was bothered or offended by Sam's comments about his family being able to own half an island, he did not show it. Instead, he glanced over to Paker as he suggested they were unlikely to have a repeat of the return trip this year. "Well, I was able to get us to CoVic and back without any real mishap, other than Baz somehow being a bit delayed on the way. And Quirk has not popped in with any cryptic warnings. So, odds are good?" He said with a smile. The blond teen then watched Kadene take off into the sky for a brief moment before focusing back on the others. The pirate twins were part of Grey Team with Lawrence, so he was at least somewhat familiar with their behavior. Focusing on Riel, he gave the other teen a small nod in understanding. "Well, there is plenty to do on land." He then turned to making sure everyone else was getting situated or needed anything, while keeping one eye towards the sky and the arrival of Lynn's group.
The Sailor Posted Tuesday at 11:04 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:04 PM Mizuki "Lawrence... I should get some of the fun stuff out of storage at the beach before we take care of that one matter you wanted my assistance with." She said, quirking an eyebrow signalling it was about their get away in a couple hours. "See everyone soon." She said with a smile before she hovered up before taking a slower paced flight to the Beach. Over a route she knew wouldn't cause trouble.
MoonSimply Posted Wednesday at 04:48 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:48 AM La Puma Negra Carmen listened to Same to speak, looking over towards Sam. They hadn't spoken to each other that much before, but Sam seemed nice enough that Carmen didn't mind her company. All it seemed to do was partially widen out the pool of people that the werecat heroine could feel were her friend, or at the least an acquaintance of hers. Carmen was starting to really get her life in order, to the councilors at school at the least, but it still was rough goings for Carmen. Sam at the least Carmen could relate to a bit, somewhat rougher sort of person than what she expected the more clean-cut Michael to be, not that she'd complain about it as she left his side to join Sam instead. "Sure, let's do that huh. A bit of fun on the beach won't be that bad, I guess. Everyone else has to be there by now," she says before pulling off her dress right over her head. A red bikini top, a bit different than last year, with a beach skirt below to match. A little bit more open than last year's more conservative approach. "You want to come with us Mizuki?" speaking too late to watch her fly off.

Serendipity and Stormchild Riel could only laugh. "Hardly. The Happenstance isn't anchored offshore, my crew is on the other side the world, and I bet rum is still off the menu." His grin and amused tone took the sting out. "It's not even as disreputable as Paralogue, let alone any of the other perilous ports we dropped anchor at. But it's warm. By all the gods, it's warm." He sounded genuinely happy. "We made it to your Caribbean over the break. That was longer than we'll be here, too. But anything to get away from the oppressive cold. I'd say I don't know how you stand it, but it's colder where you're from, isn't it?" Kadene, meanwhile, was hovering around a thousand feet in the air. She may have ditched her usual slitted long skirt, but she was far from naked. Swimsuit selection had been a trial for her poor brother. Not that she was going to go swimming, of course. That wasn't something she could actually do. But a girl liked to look good, and this particular purple and black one piece (a compromise between the two, as Riel swore to wear bottoms just as skimpy if she went that route) was quite flattering and exposed just enough skin that those attracted to young women would drool but minimum standards of decency for a minor were met. Now if only she'd actually paid for it...but whatever. The sun was warm on her bare limbs. The breeze caressed her pleasantly. A paradise like feeling unlike any other. Wait. She looked down to see her brother not standing alone. Owen. Wait again. He could fly too, why didn't he...? She descended to maybe a dozen feet above ground. "Owen. Did you forget you can fly, too?" Was this permission to chase her? Perhaps, perhaps.
Lone_Star Posted Thursday at 02:08 AM Posted Thursday at 02:08 AM Prime Mover "I'll talk to you all in a bit, and sorry about the noise!" he said to the others, and took off immediately. A blast of sound followed behind him as the laws of physics were stretched to their limit as he forced momentum beneath his feet. In moments, he was hovering right next to Kadene a thousand feet in the air, grinning like a fool. "Hey Kadene," Owen said, suddenly very self-conscious of his football-centric swimming outfit. "I must say this everytime I see ya, but you look gorgeous." Though Owen was a gentleman, he couldn't help but check out her swimsuit. He was only human, after all. "An to answer yer question, no, of course I didn't forget I could fly! I just figured you wanted a little time to yourself. Yer a fiercely independent woman, don'tcha know, and I like that so much about you. If nothin' else I didn't want to smother you as soon as ya got here." Any subtext about her wanting to be chased was completely lost on Owen. After all, he was just a country guy dating for the first time!
Dracostern Posted Thursday at 02:47 AM Posted Thursday at 02:47 AM Cerebral and Cerebellum More and more people were showing up it seems. Daniel would grin as he waved at the others as they arrived. He was happy to see everyone again. The young man looked over at his bag, that was with Iris, and from it floated plates of sandwhichs that where hand crafted by himself. The young psyhcic would float them over to the nearest counter, that could fit them, then he called back to the other teens, that were still in the house that was. "Everyone! I made us some food! Feel free to dig in whenever you wish!" He then peeled back the gladwrap that had covered the treats before putting it safely away. It didn't take long for one sandwich to glow and faint purple and float towards Iris, whom was looking over at the food, and she would promptly eat it before getting back to her novel. Though not before waving at the newcomers.
Poncho Posted Thursday at 08:04 PM Posted Thursday at 08:04 PM (Michael and Sam) "Yes! Let's not like Mizuki beat us too badly!" Sam said before she was on her way, rushing down to the beach and waving for Carmen to follow. Michael was taking it slower, waving at Carmen as Parker suddenly took the bags. "I'll be right behind you." he said to Sam and Carmen. He was going to be trying to use his powers as little as possible on vacation, like he usually did. That way it really was a vacation, and not just using powers in different places. He looked at Parker with a smile as he returned, shaking his head to his best friend in a gesture of 'as long as they're having fun'. He also looked at Lawrence, casting him a side-eyed glance about Sam's usual brusqueness when talking to the Time Warper. He wasn't fond of how she acted to Parker and Lawrence. It wasn't like it was their fault he kept getting hurt and getting into fights above his weight class, he'd be doing that anyway. He hoped Lawrence wasn't taking it too hard, the way she acted, but he had never seen Lawrence seem worried about anything, so maybe he was overestimating how much this would affect him. He shrugged at Lawrence at least. He watched Owen and Kadene fly off with amusement though; there was something fun about chasing people through the sky, flying was one of the best parts about being a Superhero, after all. "Riel, do you ever wish you and your sisters got each other's powers instead?" he asked curiously as the Owen and Kadene disappeared again, before smiling to Daniel and Iris. "Thanks for the food you two, you're so considerate." he said approvingly. And he continud his gentle amble down towards the Beach, not wanting to get anywhere fast.
Thevshi Posted Thursday at 11:37 PM Author Posted Thursday at 11:37 PM Lawrence (Timeout) Lawrence watched Mizuki fly off towards the beach with a small smile before focusing back on making sure no one else needed anything. When Kadene flew back down briefly to try to get Owen to follow her, the older blond teen called over to them, "If you could try to stick to the south/southeast that would be appreciated. There is a small resort and village about a mile and a half north." When the two flew off, Lawrence focused on Daniel as he sat out some plates of sandwiches he had brought with him on the bar located under a covered section of the deck. "Very thoughtful Daniel, but you did not need to go to that much trouble. As I said, just like last year, the kitchen is fully stocked with enough stuff to last us for the weekend. Lynn will be putting out stuff for lunch in a few hours." The seventeen-year-old then turned to look to the south of the island as a sleek, supersonic aircraft could be seen approaching the island from the direction, flying only a few hundred feet over the water, and descending as it drew closer. "And speaking of, there she is, along with the others." The aircraft slowed down as it came over the southern end of the island, coming to a complete halt to hover in place for a moment, before it slowly stared to descend downward, disappearing behind some trees at the south end of the island.
