Moira Morley Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 Players Name: Tier 2 NPC (Moira, Electra, Angel, Heritage) Power Level: 13 Characters Name: Doctor Jian Zhou Height: 5'0" Weight: 100 lbs Hair: Black Eyes: Black Description: a few pictures History: Born in 1850 to John Smith, a human biologist looking for the perfect child subject, and Huan Zhou, a woman hand picked by John to be the perfect bearer of his child. They both kept Jian emotionally distant. She did not know the love of her parents. She only got what she needed. The rest of her childhood was filled with learning. By the ripe age of 10, John started his work on Jian in earnest, using her as the perfect test subject for his experiments. When Jian expressed interest in John's work, he dutifully taught her everything as he was performing it on her. She learned quickly, absorbing knowledge beyond her years in little time. By the time Jian was 21, John had perfected what he had been looking for: the fountain of youth... in serum form. Jian knew she couldn't let this go to waste, so she killed him and used the serum on herself. Huan witnessed the cold emotionless crime and was murdered too. With her inheritance, Jian attended several institutes of higher learning. A good 20 years later she was a doctor many times over. She learned a few things while she spent then half of her life in school. The world was a sick place, mentally and physically. The scorn of not being male or fully caucasian. She could have let that get her down, but no, she was going to show them all that she could make a better world through her hands. When she returned home, she found her parents were in the same shape she left them in: cryogenically perfect. These two would be her first subjects. Working dutifully on them, she met with many of an upset, eventually having to scrap them completely. She was out of test subjects now. She took in various street urchins under the guise of helping the poor and needy. The ones that needed to feed their addictions she took in the most. No one would miss these miscreants. She considered herself a hero for doing this. Not only was it helping science, but there would be less bummers, dregs, and lowlifes in general. Years and years of experimentation brought her to her first success. The hulking manbeast that stood before her was a masterpiece of human biology. Homo Jianus was born, and this was the species's Adam! For the first time in her life she felt an emotion she had never felt before: love of living being. Not only would this get her her credit as the genius she was, but this being was made by her own hand (nevermind the former shell it used to be). When she took her creation, Joshua, back to show the scientific community, they were shocked and appalled at the grevious tampering with God's work. God's work? God's work?! Was she not a god herself for improving on His work? Shunned by the scientific community, Jian and Joshua fled for the United States. Joshua eventually began to grow old, his health degrading after years. That and he was resistant to the youth serum. Jian mercifully had to put him out of his misery. Ever since then, Jian has been obsessed with furthering her species. More recently an influx of superbeings has had her wanting to capture a few for her experiments. The one she really wants is the one claiming to be a goddess. With that kind of genetic makeup her creations would be even better! She doggedly hunts for the one they call Divine. Personality & Motivation: Cold and calculating. Even when angry, she never appears visibly upset. Her work is her greatest passion, and she considers her life of crime to be a minor annoyance, necessary only to continue her experiments. She understands that progress is only achieved by the bold, and believes that history will appreciate her works in the future. (Thanks to Warmonger for getting all prosey with it ) Powers & Tactics: She comes prepared with what chemicals, minions and device she needs. Hanging back, she lets the minions do the brute work, backing them up with said device and chemicals. Dr Archeville Posted July 10, 2009 Posted July 10, 2009 I thought you were going to go with the Array, not a VP? (Arrays work better for NPCs)
Moira Morley Posted July 10, 2009 Author Posted July 10, 2009 Two problems there actually. If I were to use and array the PCs would be drowning in HP every time I stunted something she needed. That and this makes her have to be prepared for fights, she could get it all wrong or not plan forproblem B to happen/show up.
Dr Archeville Posted July 11, 2009 Posted July 11, 2009 I guess my main issue is I don't see why she needs to be so very powerful (250pp!). The Mad Scientist Archetype in the Core Book would seem to do just as well, and that's only 137pp; bringing that up to maybe 180 should be more than enough.
Dr Archeville Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 Went over some stat stuff in Chat, looks mostly fine. But there's a few fluff issues. Biggest one being the early uses of the term "Geneticist." If she's to be a Steampunk Doctor, she (and those working with her) shouldn't be using that word (the word "genetics" was coined in 1905 by British biologist William Bateson).
Dr Archeville Posted July 12, 2009 Posted July 12, 2009 After a bit more chat in the Chat, I'm ready to give her first approval.
