MarkK Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 He sighs softly. "There is no need to thank me. Clearly my efforts only made things worse. I apologize. I remain certain however, that the caliber of your performance will dispell your anxieties."

Barnum Posted December 12, 2007 Author Posted December 12, 2007 Lady Liberty patted Agnes on the back quickly. She looked over to the Emissary and gave him a knowing little nod, affirming that the girl was ready and should be fine. “I’ll set up the first scenario,†Lady Liberty said. “Make yourselves ready.†Lady Liberty flew up near the roof. A door opened in far wall near the top, and she flew in. The door shut behind her, leaving no trace of its former shape in the wall. After a few seconds, Lady Liberty’s voice came over the loudspeaker . . . “The Wreck Room needs to test your capabilities first. A target will present itself momentarily. I want you each to punch it as hard as you can in turn. Don’t worry about breaking it; the room is pretty tough. Emissary, why don’t you go first?†The floor of the Wreck Room immediately began to vibrate. A large rectangular object rose out of the floor. It looked to be made of some space-age metal. It was about 8 feet tall, about 5 feet wide, and about a foot thick. It had a large padded bull’s-eye right in the center.

Lilac Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Agnes awkwardly pulled the Freedom League warm-up jacked over her head and dropped it near the door. Beneath, she was wearing the tight-fitting Freedom League tank top she’d been given. When the cool air hit her shoulders, little goose bumps formed up and down her arms, and she shivered. Agnes closed her eyes again and clutched at the plain wooden cross she wore around her neck. She whispered a quick prayer, and immediately she was surrounded by a swirling mist of bright golden light. Agnes stretched out her hand, and with a brilliant flash, the sword appeared in her grasp. The luminescent swirling mist mostly subsided, until only a faint hint of it remained. It clung to the sword and to Agnes’ body, and was stirred up gently when she moved. Agnes swung the sword over her shoulders and wore it on her back so her hands would be free. "Good luck," she said to the Emissary, and waited nervously for him to make his punch.

MarkK Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 He looked fascinated by her brief transformation of sorts. "Oh!That's amazing." He paused. "My apolo- well, no, it should be a good thing when one's gifts delight." He turned at that to the target, tensing for a brief moment, as his gaze took on a great deal more focus, he cocked his fist back, strained his muscles, and swung forward in a rush of air from the force of the blow towards the target.

Barnum Posted December 12, 2007 Author Posted December 12, 2007 BOOM! The room echoed with the thud of the Emissary's heavy fist. The feminine electronic voice of the Wreck Room read off the results. "Fifteen thousand, thirty seven, P.S.I." "Nicely done," Lady Liberty said over the PA system. "Agnes, you're next."

Lilac Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 "Good," Agnes said, trying to sound encouraging, but she had no idea if it was good or not. 15000 certainly sounded like a good number. Agnes clutched at the sword strap across her chest. She fidgeted with it for a minute to center the sword on her back, and then walked over to the target. Agnes had never intentionally punched anything or anyone in her life. She wasn't even sure how to do it, though she was pretty confident that it wouldn't hurt. "Just rare back and hit it," she repeated to herself silently. One more deep breath with her eyes closed, and Agnes made a fist in her left hand. The swirling golden light began to thicken and brighten around her until it was dripping off her arm and fading into nothingness just before hitting the floor. She opened her eyes, saw the target, and punched.

Barnum Posted December 13, 2007 Author Posted December 13, 2007 BOOM! The room echoed again, this time with the thud of Agnes' punch. The feminine electronic voice of the Wreck Room read off the results. "Nineteen thousand, four hundred, sixty one, P.S.I." Lady Liberty was quiet for a few long seconds. When she spoke her voice was dripping with surprise. "Very nicely done, Agnes." She was quiet again for a few seconds. "Give me a minute to set up the next test."

Lilac Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 The punch felt really good, and she was right, it didn't hurt at all. Her arm felt really strong, so strong that the metal gave way beneath the blow. That was a good feeling. The room echoed again, this time with the thud of Agnes' punch. The feminine electronic voice of the Wreck Room read off the results. It took Agnes a minute to realize just how well she did. She smiled a big stupid grin upon hearing the praise from Lady Liberty. She took a step back away from the target and readjusted the sword strap, more out of nervous habit than necessity. Agnes was so relieved that the first test went well that the grin stayed plastered to her face.
