MarkK Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 "See? As I predicted." He smiled cheerfully in outright response to her grin, his own mood lightened.
Barnum Posted December 14, 2007 Author Posted December 14, 2007 "Okay," Lady Liberty said. "The next challenge will involve a few combat drones. Hit them as hard as you can. They'll be trying to do the same to you. Feel free to work together on this one." The loudspeaker clicked off. The punching target retracted into the floor, and the Wreck Room began to make a whirring noise. The next test was about to begin.

Lilac Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 Agnes tugged down on the sword's strap, pulling the handle closer to her shoulder so she could reach it. With a bit of clumsy effort, Agnes unsheathed the sword and held it out in front of her. The brilliant glow returned to the girl with renewed strength. The sword that she held looked ancient and delicate, and yet also hard and very dangerous. She looked over to the Emissary. She was ready, at least as ready as she'd ever be.

MarkK Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 He simply nods to Agnes off of her look. "I think any particular strategy will have to wait until we seen what the drones are capable of." And with that, simply waits, hovering and readied.

Barnum Posted December 17, 2007 Author Posted December 17, 2007 After another few seconds passed, a wide rectangular piece of the floor retracted, and four man-shaped drones were lifted up into the Wreck Room. They were obviously robots of some kind, and their metallic "skins" gave them a high tech, yet almost artsy look. With a roar, the rockets housed in the drones' lower extremities fired, propelling them into the middle of the combat arena. The robots fanned out, and looked to be preparing to attack. Lady Liberty's voice sounded one final time above the roar of the rockets. "Good luck!"

Lilac Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Agnes was so tense that when the drones' fired their rockets, she jumped like someone had poked her. The girl took off running toward the drones. As she ran, she left a trail of light stretched out behind her. The light slowly solidified and began to take a very specific shape. By the time she was within striking distance of the drones, she had two large and luminescent wings extending from her back. With a thought they propelled her into the air. As she rose she held the sword aloft. The blade exploded in a sphere of white energy that engulfed three of the drones.

MarkK Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 He shook his head with a smile to himself as the energy enveloped most of the drones, opting then to fly out towards the one that remained, arcing up and over, arms reaching down as he did in an effort to pull the last drone along with him into his wake, hoping to be able to pull it into a grapple, then spin in midair to hurl it violently towards one of its brethren, or at least smack it into the burst of energy. Sadly, it remains a maneuver he has not tried very often, though at least in the confines of a practice area, that can do little harm, and while the initial motions go off with a near perfect grace, he releases in just the wrong moment of his spin, sending the drone skewing well wide of anywhere near his intended target. "Oh. Bother."

Barnum Posted December 18, 2007 Author Posted December 18, 2007 The drones immediately began to scatter at Agnes's approach. Only one was fast enough to avoid the blast of energy. The two nearest and slowest were sent flying by the blast. They landed on the other end of the Wreck Room in two smoking piles of debris. The third remaining drone lifted its arms and blasted at Agnes with an energy beam of some sort. On the other side of the gym, the Emissary was faring equally well. The drone was no match for his incredible strength. The tossed the mechanical opponent into the wall like it was a toy. CRUNCH! The wall left far more of a dent in the drone than the drone did in the wall. What was left of the robot slid down the wall to the floor into a heap.

MarkK Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Emissary shrugged to himself, and noted the final drone striking towards Agnes. He decided to play around with sheer brute force, his attempt to have been a bit fancier having not quite worked out like he hoped. He charged forward with enough power and speed to leave a shining silver wake, fists outstretched as the momentum of his flight tore through the air, the Utopian now functionally his own projectile weapon.
