cosmicarus Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 WRECKING-BALL In the ring in his native England, Flint Owen was known as 'The Bear', a boxing champion of the people. He lived and boxed in the slums all his life, he never really made much money from his passion, but he kept fit and people loved to watch him. None moreso than his son however, who was ringside every fight. His mother passed away during childbirth; Flint misses her but his boy, Michael, never knew her. Flint and Michael had each other and that was it. That changed very suddenly... Being an icon of the people, Flint was asked to be a guest speaker at the building workers rally being held at the site where they had stopped work, citing an unsafe environment (given four workers had already been killed in accidents). The big cats in the other side of town were furious that work had stopped on their project, and the workers knew it. Flint stood on the stage, watching the multitude of good, honest, working class people spread out in front of him. He was nervous; he never really spoke in front of anybody before and he flipped through his speech cards hoping that would calm him. Just as the MC began to introduce him, his eyes flicked up and there, in the front of the crowd, was his son. Flint knew now he could do anything. As he got up to speak to the people however, the base of a nearby crane exploded. The people screamed as the crane came falling towards the crowd. Flint barely had time to think, let alone act as the huge metal structure came toppling down. He had to stand and watch in shock as his son was crushed beneath the wreckage. Nobody knows what caused the explosion that made the crane unstable, but most had their suspicions. Fat cats from up town who wanted to scare the people back to work! After that event, Flint came upon another realisation when he couldn’t pay for his son’s funeral. His manager had been screwing him of his earnings for years. More than that, he was paying his opponents to take falls. Flint didn't like that one bit, he and his manager parted ways. Flint walking down the street, the manager in the back of an ambulance. Needing money and not really interested in boxing anymore, Flint left England for Freedom City, hoping to get lost. He went to work doing odd jobs for anyone who’d give him the money. Normally, when someone needed some muscle, they’d call up Flint and he’d have their backs for a fee. It wasn't glorified work but the more he got to try and hurt '...dem bastards wat killed my son!', the happier he was. It was in one of these little missions that Flint was finally captured by the personification of the '...uppity fat cats' he hated so much - superheroes. They busted in and captured Flint and his team before they even had a chance to fight back. Flint didn't find this fair at all... Sitting in jail with his comrades wasn't fun at all. Flint liked these guys though, they were knockabouts like him. Just a couple a' average Joes, trying to eek out an existence in a city where those with the power run the joint and screw the rest. When “Big Al†Driogano himself came to the cell and offered Flint and his gang bail if they entered into a little project the family was investing in, Flint cautiously agreed. They were free later that day - the wheels of justice had certainly been greased. The next day Flint found himself and his gang in '...some kinda hopital.' All Flint remembers is sitting there, blacking out, and then the crippling pain which seemed to go on forever. When he finally regained consciousness, harnessed to a hospital bed, a number of things had changed. For starters he had steel for skin. Secondly, he felt a heck of a lot stronger than he had before. Thirdly, and perhaps most dramatically, his right hand was missing, replaced with what looked like a wrecking ball. Flint was angry, very angry. He broke free of his bonds easily, determined to get out of where ever he was. There were some scientist type guys who tried to stop him, but he would not be stopped and easily bashed through their defences. As he made his way around, searching for an exit, he came across a room that seemed to double as a morgue. There, on slabs, were the other three members of his gang. Each of them seemed to have some kind of modification done to them. One of them had half metal skin, another had some kind of arm implants. The third had a wrecking ball on each arm and Flint found himself wondering how the guy would have ever zipped up his fly. On a bench, Flint saw a metal device that looked like a spring loaded cannon which fired a large metal weight. The ball was kept tethered to the cannon by a thick chain and Flint guessed this is what those animals had grafted onto his arm. He wasn't happy. He tore the place apart. He didn't bother searching for the exit, instead just bashing through walls until he made it to the outside. and therefore freedom... Now, Flint Owen, known to the world as Wrecking-Ball, only looks after himself. No-one can be trusted. If the world is run by the people with the power, then '...this dumb brute from the slums is gonna get him his share of power!' Beliefs: 1. No-one cares about me, so I don't care about anyone. 2.
