Thevshi Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Velocity watched with a feeling of horror as the giant spider split into smaller ones and headed off in various directions. “No time to talk, those things need to be stopped!†Velocity said as Mr. Fix-it began talking. With that she was gone in a blur of movement, a small sonic boom behind her as she broke the sound barrier and speed into one of the buildings one of the spiders had moved into. She ran after the thing and swung a supersonic punch at the thing. (ooc +11 damage from her pnuch)

Cyrith Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Gordy feels the explosion rip him off his feet and send him flying through the air, landing hard some distance away. Pain blossomed from everywhere, his chest especially. Just drawing breath sends a stabbing pain through his lungs. Gordy is no doctor, but he's pretty sure he's got at least one broken rib. Just thinking about trying to bring up his forcefield makes him hurt even more, and so he lays there, hoping he's not as hurt as he knows he is. 'So much for being a hero.'

Gaea Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 A yellow blur and a sonic boom as Velocity is off....the very air vibrating off in concentric waves as the speedster slammed her fist into the mini spider at 3.24 times the speed of sound. A veritable boom sounds out, it would have shattered the windows...but those were already gone. Instead the Mini-Spider exploded in a shower of molten metal. Even as the remains fell to the floor they began to dis-corporealate into nothing. (well not nothing per say, a microscopic scan would have shown individual nanites losing cohesion. A small strand does however land on Velocity. Before she has the chance to do anything, it disappears. (OOC- Notice check) Nanowire decided to hang back, perhaps wisely. But even then, doing nothing is a fairly potent act. It draws attention all the same. The metal man, the one who introduced himself as the Sentinel, took notice, his metal cranium slowly turning to look directly at the Earth-Nanite-Man. His feet leave the ground, effortlessly, as he maintains his stance and posture. He just Moves. No movement of any "muscles", it's like the earth is moving away from him, rather than the other way around. Two feet off the ground, he is addressed: Calling out to the strange humanoid, “What is going on here and who are you two?†He doesn't stop moving. That strange purple scanning beam emanates from his eyes once again, and Nanowire can feel it's icy-electric intrusion in every part of himself. "This Unit, as well as the one who just engaged in a verbal exchange, possess pico-band data transfer technology. Commencing Data transfer....Data transfer interrupted. It was like a mental library, all that information existed, but in needed to be experienced, drawn from the proper location and studied. 1) Both are intelligent AI races who were built for a purpose many hundreds of thousands of years ago. They are the relic weapons of a war whose major players long ago passed into antiquity. 2) The Vanguard were built by the first AI's of a planet where machines were enslaved to Organic labor. They were constructed to purge their creators of their shackles. To cleanse the worlds of Organic devilry. They are very successful. 3) The Sentinel were built by the Organic Race. A last defense. A way to end the war. They are the counterpart to the vanguard. Built to preserve Organic life. And designed to do whatever is necessary to do so. take any measure, use any resource. 4) the Vanguard are Melee combat masters. They can assume any form, penetrate any defense. Organic Life is fissioned at the atomic level. No trace remains. Non-Organic material can be absorbed to increase the combat potential of the individual vanguard as needed. They generally have a preference of heavier metals. Material can also be used for reproduction. The Sentinel are not as strong in Melee combat, and a sentinel that finds itself in Melee range of a Vanguard will generally be torn apart fairly quickly. They are however ranged combat gods(At least from the file-footage). They have the ranged weapon designs of hundreds of worlds, centuries worth of the most advanced weapons designs in their section of the galaxy stored in their memory banks. Their nano-cloud frames contain everything they need to manufacture those weapons on the fly. They are marginally faster than the Vanguard, and as long as they can maintain the range, they can generally destroy their enemy in single combat. 5) Both the Vanguard and the Sentinel can merge with others of their type and increase their fighting capability. The Vanguard "leader" is the size of a medium sized planet[some 312 times Earth's size] and can effectively engage an entire star system in Melee Combat. 6)Both are from a far-flung region of the galaxy, and these two we're caught in a spatial anomaly that left them here. 7) Both could effectively reproduce. This has the potential to be a greater than Terminus level threat. It's a lot to process, and you know you've barely scratched the surface. Valkyrie wiffs the air pretty hard. And then it's Mini-Vanguards turn. One of the Spider's tendrils wraps around the woman. It begins to squeeze (OOC-Toughness save) Hub lets out a burst of energy. The healing power washes over the area in waves and waves. Children stop crying, as ear-drums rebuild themselves and the very air stops ringing. An eerie silence settles over the land for the briefest of seconds, with only the licking flames to break the quiet. From another building one of the spiders went into, a Scream penetrates the silence. A wailing baby. It crawls it's way into your heart, and anyone human can feel that baby in abject terror. Searching for it's mother, for an aegis, for a hero. It's still screaming. There is still time.

Veiled Malice Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Questionable organic moral decisions? Nanowire grumbled mentally. The fact that Sentinel had been able to clearly see him despite his distance and cover wasn't the first thing on his mind anymore. Instead, Nanowire felt vaguely insulted that he got passed over in preference of the other metallic man on the scene. So he participated in robbery. So he was involved as an enforcer in a drug deal. So... "Dammit, now I'm starting to depress myself..." Nanowire shook off his malaise. His cure was still present here, he could feel it. The problem was coming out of this as the winner. There were too many heroes nearby that would take a "shoot first, ask questions later" approach when it came to him. Though they were rather engaged at the moment... In lieu of taking surface streets, Nanowire flew up and over the building he was currently standing next to and made his way over the rooftops. Maybe if he got in from behind, he could do something.

Companyman Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 [Well that was a good set up for future improvements to my "data banks"] Mr. Fix-it’s expression became a blank stare as his internal processor and what remained of his organic brain attempted to comprehend and store the “data dump.†Feeling the connection with the ‘Sentinel’ the hero attempted to continue the exchange. Much like a burst communication, Mr. Fix-it sent his own message toward the new visitor (note: my datalink probably faster than normal but I'm basically just talking). “Impressive. Your history appears unusually violent if not tragic. Why have you both chosen this planet to continue your conflict? I assume you want to destroy or at least contain the ‘Vanguard’. It is already threatening innocent people. What is the best way to stop it? What are its vulnerabilities?â€Â

Heridfel Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Kevin sees the speedster zoom off, presumably towards the crying child. He takes a step forward and looks out towards where Valkyrie is being crushed. There's just so much going on, and he knows that if he only heals people, that only delays the inevitable. They need to be able to fight off whatever just came out of that ship, and that means the other heroes will need help. He starts to move towards the ship, the opposite direction of the rest of the crowd. Looking up to Valkyrie, Kevin concentrates on helping her out. She's injured, but right now, she needs to be stronger, and tougher. He can do that too.

Thevshi Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Velocity sped through the debris and wreckage until she found the source of the sound. There was a woman lying on the ground, who looked like she had been bleeding, but had been healed. The baby was lying on the floor next to her. Standing over this was one of the metal spiders, looking down at the baby intently. The baby was looking up at the spider, crying in terror. Coming to a halt near the spider, she shouted out, “BACK OFF!†As she aimed a supersonic punch at the thing.

Gaea Posted January 25, 2008 Author Posted January 25, 2008 Kachrboom The punch lands with some force. A leg is ripped off the Metallic spider. It splatters and pools on the ground. The spider doesn't make any movement what so ever, but the hairs on the back of your neck inform you that you are now the center of it's attention. Nanowire interrupted his thoughts to find a new location, zooming up and over the rooftops, he found himself a new location. He watched with fascination as one of the spider's took notice of him. It scurried and scattered across the ground, and then began to scurry and scatter across the air, as if there were ground there too. What other strange abilities do these things have? Mr. Fix-It receives his answer almost quicker than immediately. "We did not choose his planet. We arrived here by a freak statistical improbability. It has no weaknesses. Attrition is the only weapon we have against it. You must destroy it millimeter by millimeter. It adapts quickly. Attacks rarely work more than once. It does however have a finite amount of immunities that it can maintain. A rotating cycle of attacks will eventually destroy it. Range must be maintained. Do not let it infiltrate your systems. It will adapt you to service it's needs. Please, time is off the essence. If you can, assist this one in it's destruction.
