Nightshyft Posted December 26, 2007 Author Posted December 26, 2007 The wind whipped across the triumverate towers with an almost knife-like edge...howling with an inhuman rage. Their strength was such that one could almost imagine the great towers swaying with their gusts. The winter storms were gearing up in Freedom City...snow was not far behind. The flakes just began to fall when a shadow began to flicker in a small corner of the landing. As the wind paused in it's rage against the structure, a silent shape flowed from the pool of darkness...it's amorphous shape taking on the shape of a man. Bracing himself against the coming aero-assault, Anton slowly stood. His trained eyes scanning the entire roof of the building he was standing upon. With a deliberate slowness, he began to pick out the placement of security cameras....his intell was right. They pointed mainly out and either up or down...this corner...his corner was a blind spot. For several long and agonizing minutes, the Umbral Infiltrator did not move so much as a muscle...his eyes tracking and timing the patterns...his hair and his breath the only things seen moving....then with a sudden burst of speed, Shadowjak began to flip and somersault across the roof...his form in constant twirling motion...arcing and rolling to avoid the watchful eyes of the cameras...ending in his dive into another shadow...swallowed completely by it's umbral embrace. It was at this moment that all across the city that fireworks went off...the New Year had begun. The job had begun. Anton Jakova's first move in a new city...in a new environment. Delphic Industries was about to have a midnight inspection...courtesy of Shadowjak, the Umbral Infiltrator.

Nightshyft Posted December 29, 2007 Author Posted December 29, 2007 While the winter wind whipped about the exterior of the building, the inside was warm. Flowing from the shadow in an unexposed corner of the stairwell, Anton once again froze. Patience was the mark of a true professional...one waited for the oppurtunity to arise. To force it often created disasters that could be fatal. While motionless, the Shadow Shifter recalled how this job came about. It all started on Friday, when he got a call on a cellphone that wasn't his. Anton was standing on the corner and wondering what his first order of business was to be here in Freedom City, when his pocket began to ring. Reaching into his pocket, the Umbral Ukraine pulled out a ringing cellphone. Flipping it open, Anton answered,"Da?" The Voice on the other end was deep and precise, " I know who you are and I have need of your talents. One block west, on the corner is a trashcan. Reach in and take out the brown paperbag. Inside is the details" Puzzled by the both the voice and the cellphone, Anton followed the instructions. His mind mulled over what had been said while he walked the block west. It was just as he arrived at the said trashcan that it dawned on him that the voice spoke in Ukrainian...NOT American. With an involuntary shudder, Anton reached in and took out the bag. Opening it, he discovered that inside was a set of folders containing: A detailed map of Freedom City, especially Wading Way, the blueprints and security layouts for Pyramid Plaza, Information on Delphic Industries and Constatine Urallos. Again, all in Ukraine. Included was a picture of the job: a stone-carved box, twelve by six inches, about four inches deep. Carved all over the exterior of the box are unusual runes. Instructions stated that the box was NOT to be opened, at any cost... Breaking out of his momentary fugue, Shadowjak moved over to the doorway leading out of the stairwell. With consumate ease, he slips the door open quietly, just a fraction of an inch. The silhouette of a patrolling guard was just vanishing around the corner. The information was exact in it's details. Silent as the shadows he uses, Shadowjak slips into the hall. Without a glance back...Shadowjak heads for the office at the end of the hall.

Nightshyft Posted January 25, 2008 Author Posted January 25, 2008 Like the silent shadow he was, Shadowjak made his way down the hall...sure in his craft and his abilities that he was unseen...unheard. Coming up to the door, Anton stops and examines it carefully, without touching it. Many of today's alarms and security systems took super powers into consideration. With that thought, Anton made sure that before he went any further that the door was not outfitted with such security... Meanwhile, across town... The room is darkened...only the glow from monitors light the gloom. Figures huddled over the monitors watch and listen intensely. The hush is broken by quiet whispers... Suddenly, "Sir...there is an alarm triggered at Delphic Industries...Rooftop security has been breached. Response?" Flashing signal upon security grid The Standing figure turns and makes his way to a special bank of phones...dedicated phones...secure phones. Reaching his hand down to one of the phones... "Sir...same sight. Cascading security failures...then rebooting back up."

MBCE Posted January 29, 2008 Posted January 29, 2008 Sammy looked at the building from his position a short distance away. He adjusted his black gloves againas he thought about the job. "Inside, there's a small box with runes all over it. I want you to get it for me but don't open it. Once you bring it to me, I'll give you your money," the voice said on the phone. Sammy hated dealing with people this way, but it was a job. His first in Freedom City and he wanted to make a big impression. "Okay," Sammy answered, "You've just hired The Ghost." Sammy smiled at the memory but then turned his attention back to work. 'Sweeping cameras on the outside. Place this big must have guards on teh inside as well.' Sammy reached up and pulled his black knitted hat down low on his head. Like all classic bank theives, Sammy disliked covering his face. The few times he was pinched in Chicago, he was usually released as there wasn't much evidence to hold him. Only an eyewitness which was easily persuaded to forget his face when it came time to identify him. Sammy never had to worry about the cameras. He's always been lucky like that. Sammy again searched the building for a way inside. A side door looked like it was the best choice for him to use. He checked his backpack to make sure his tools and equipment were securely in place before trotting over to the door. The cameras that were turned towards Sammy suddenly malfunctioned only to reboot once the man had moved beyond their range. Sammy reached out, placing his hand on the door knob. 'Check to see if it's locked, Sammy. Would save you a lot of time.' Slowly, Sammy turned the knob and pulled gently. The door opened a crack and Sammy smiled. 'Ah! Lady Fortune's looking out for her old friend again!' Sammy peeked inside seeing nothing but a corridor that ran deeper into the complex. Sammy took a moment to check behind him to make sure he wasn't observed before entering the premise of Delphic Industries.

MBCE Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 The corridor was dark and ran for about thirty feet before making a turn to the right. Only three doors could be seen in the dim lighting. Sammy took a moment to take a look at the map that he was supplied with. 'Okay. I guess I'm here. This side of the building had the least amount of guard patrols but he said they do move around a bit.' Sammy looked up from his map to make sure no one had come around the corner. Satisfied that he was still okay, he looked back at his map. 'If this map is correct, I'll have to move to the fifth floor to get the box. To do that, I could take either the stairs or the elevator, both of which is right in sight of a guard station. Great.' Sammy put away the map and began to move silently down the hall. Sammy reached the edge of the corridor and peeked around the corner. Sitting at the end of another thirty foot corridor was a guard. His small desk was just before a door marked stairs. Another corridor branched off to the left. The guard was busy reading a newspaper at the moment, unaware of Sammy's presence. 'Looks like Lady Fortune has decided to smile upon me again. Now, where is that camera?' Sammy looked up for signs of a camera, but not seeing one, Sammy smiled. 'Damn things must be really well hidden. Oh, well. It's not like I need to worry about them.' Sammy concentrated for a moment on the guard and waited for the fun to begin. The unsuspecting guard leaned back in his chair to relax more. Unfortunately for him, it was just at that moment the chair decided to give under the pressure. The chair broke, sending the guard sprawling into the wall behind him. His head hit with just enough force to knock him unconscious. Sammy smiled at the display and moved quickly towards the stairs. Sammy bent down to check on the man's condition before moving into the stairwell.

MBCE Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Sammy paused as he took in the stairwell. It was bare of features, the walls a uniform grey. 'why do they always make these places so lifeless? Why couldn't they decorate with a little more flair? A few Picassos or Van Goghs would go a long way to towards spicing up the place.' Sammy paused on the stairwell as he realized that he had climbed too high. 'What the?' he thought as he turned around. The safecracker removed his map again and checked it. 'These stairs don't open up on the fifth floor! I have to use a different set.' Sammy traced his finger along the map. 'Damn! The stairs I need are all the way on the other side of the building! Who made this map anyway? I should feed him his liver for giving me false information.' Sammy rolled the map up and placed it away. He moved quickly down the stairs to the only other door he passed which led to the second level. Slowly, he opened the door and glanced into the darkness beyond.

Barnum Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Sammy was struck in the face with the bright beam of a flashlight. Just beyond the light, he could make out the shadowy figures of two security guards. "Hey! You there! Put your hands up." Both of the guards reaching for their guns. The short, squat guard on the left was much quicker on the draw than his tall thin partner.

MBCE Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 The light and the sound of the guard's voice catches Sammy by surprise. 'Great. Just my luck.' Sammy slowly raised his hands but focused his attention on the quicker man. Sammy smiled as he made a slight twist to the laws of probability. The weapon of the second guard, in his haste to pull his gun, went off, hitting his partner in the chest.

Barnum Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 In the seconds that followed, all hell broke loose. The first officer was so shocked at seeing the super villain use his powers, he fired his gun without waiting to ask further questions. The shot, though hurried, was a direct hit. The second officer also tried to draw quickly, but in a freak of probability, the gun went off as he was drawing it out. The bullet struck the first officer in the chest, but glanced off of his vest. The report of the pistols was deafeningly loud. Completely rattled at his gun misfiring, the first officer tried to get off a second shot, but his aim was way off. The first officer, not realizing how close to death he had just come, assumed that it was the Ghost who had shot him, so he fired again. Another direct hit.
