Heridfel Posted February 24, 2008 Author Posted February 24, 2008 You did hit with the attack for the grapple. I didn't actually need to roll anything for that, but I did roll the opposed grapple check which follows. Here's the result. You may also want to edit your last post to reflect your different action there.
Cyrith Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 Quick question about the initial grapple. Can I deal unarmed damage in this round, or only in subsequent rounds? The book makes it seem like I can, but I'm not sure.

Heridfel Posted February 24, 2008 Author Posted February 24, 2008 When grappling, there's a couple steps. First, you make an attack roll to hit. Next, both you and your target make grapple checks. If the target succeeds, then the grapple doesn't start. If you succeed, you're in a grapple and can choose to do any one of the actions available to you in a grapple, including inflicting unarmed damage.

Cyrith Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Ok then. So am I correct in thinking that I got control, at least for this round, and may inflict my unarmed damage on him?

Heridfel Posted February 26, 2008 Author Posted February 26, 2008 That is correct. I almost forgot that you add 10 to the 10 from your HP reroll, so you did beat him on the grapple. His Toughness save is successful. For the return action, he tries to pin Badb in place, which would mean that his bruiser might actually be able to hit you. You get an opposed grapple check in response.

Heridfel Posted February 26, 2008 Author Posted February 26, 2008 I'd have to look at the book for the official answer, but my answer here is "if it's between an NPC and a PC, it goes to the PC." If I had rolled higher, maybe I wouldn't say that, but two horrible rolls like that... who does that? :)

Heridfel Posted March 6, 2008 Author Posted March 6, 2008 Two 20s rolled - you're really lucky that the first was on the Aid Another. It's still a DC 27 Toughness save of your own. I think that Badb's primary mission is to get the proof to Grant Conglomerates' mercenary, and the secondary objective is to bloody whomever they sent after her. She doesn't need to knock out (or kill) the spear-wielder to fulfill her contract. Finally, please make a Notice check at -2 after your Toughness save.

Cyrith Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Toughness Save (1d20 8=26) Notice check -2 (1d20 8=15) Do you still have the text of the chat we did with the characters? It's been a long while, and I was hoping to review it.

Heridfel Posted March 6, 2008 Author Posted March 6, 2008 I'll have to ask Barnum for the logs. They've been archived, and I don't know that I have access to them.

Cyrith Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Cool, thank you. Did my notice check reveal anything?

Heridfel Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 As noted in the chat PM, the Notice check revealed that there were the sounds of people milling about outside. The spear-wielder is attempting to demoralize as a standard action. You get your choice of an Intimidate, Sense Motive, or Will roll to resist. If you fail, you have -2 to your attack rolls and checks next round.

Cyrith Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 It's for occasions just such as this that I have skill mastery in sense motive, giving me a total of a 20. Does that save?
