congyoglas Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Freedom Eagle took a quick moment to ponder the situation, assessing his strategy before he made his decision. Maybe none of them had a coherent strategy, but having all these heroes along with him was much more reassuring than trying to fight the mummy alone. "It's a mummy, it's a giant mummy...how would they have handled this in the Golden Age?" "Tut-tut, King Tut!" He flew fast and twirling, tagging the mummy again and again with punch after punch, yelling battle cries outdated for decades, turning himself into a flying, speeding ball of golden wings and armor that may not have done a lot of damage, but sure as heck got the attention of the giant mummy.
Barnum Posted November 10, 2007 Author Posted November 10, 2007 The heroes regrouped and redoubled their efforts to take down the mummy. Freedom Eagle used his extensive combat expertise to distract the creature while the other heroes either ganged up to combine their attacks and beat the mummy down. When Hybrid delivered the final blow, the mummy staggered backwards and then went crashing down to the pavement. The asphalt cracked and crumbled under the weight of the impact, and the mummy. it's head almost completely caved in, appeared to be completely lifeless.
Thevshi Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 As the giant mummy crashed to the pavement, Velocity zipped up onto it's chest, looking down at it for a moment, one hand waving in front of her face in a blur to move aside the dust that was in the air. *cough cough* "Yeah, looks like it's down." She then looks over at the others. "Any ideas on where this thing might have come from?"
congyoglas Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 "Magic's not really my thing," says Freedom Eagle, looking down at the fallen mummy mistrustfully. "Is everyone all right? You, uh, okay?" He looks at Raindance, then at the others, his face mostly hidden by his costume's headpiece. "I don't think I've met any of you before."
Thevshi Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 In a flash of motion, Velocity was over near where Freedom Eagle had landed, looking up at the taller hero, her hands behind her back. "Hmm, I think I would remember a square chin like that." She said with a smile and a giggle. "Velocity's the name." She then added.
Griffalo Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 He nods to Freedom Eagle. "Yeah, I'm fine - thanks to you guys. Nice to meet you in person, Freedom Eagle. My name's Mark, but I go by Raindance when I'm on the job." He smiles at Velocity's introduction. "Ah, I knew I recognised you - just couldn't quite remember the name!"
MarkK Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 He inclines his head to the group. "I am the Emissary. That was very well done." Then he sighs, rubbing the back of his head. "I suppose we could.. search the giant undead body. Or ahm.. see if any mummies have gone missing from the museum, not that such would especially explain the follow up animation and giant size."
congyoglas Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 "All right, a quick search nakes sense. But we need to get the mummy out of the street as soon as we can," says the Eagle thoughtfully, "it's blocking traffic all up and down the neighborhood." He looks at Emissary and the Hybrid, having judged them the strongest-seeming of their group. "Gentlemen, I, uh, suggest we fly it to Freedom Hall; they've got a flat roof, and there's bound to be someone there who knows a magical specialist we can talk to...though I may know someone myself." With that, he turns and starts to inspect the fallen mummy, his great gold wings sweeping the air behind him.
Thevshi Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 Velocity looked over at the giant mummy. "Searching a ancient corpse? Ewww." She said. "I'll take a quick look around the area while you guys get ready to haul this thing off to Freedom Hall." She said, and then was off before anyone could really reply. (ooc Velocity will perform a search of the area around where the mummy had appeared using quickness)
hero4hire Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 "WooO!" Hybrid said exitedly as the Mummy came crashing down. Flying down to join the collected group he still could not hide his enthusiasm which seemed at odds with his alien appearence. "The name is Hybrid! I have to say you guys did a great job of softening him up for me." After the group offers thier suggestions and starts to move into action Hybrid offers "I can help with the searching of the body before we move it." The Hero then drifts towards the mammoth corpse after Eagle. He then plunges through the thing like a ghost. OOC: Go Intangible and Take Twenty Search Mummy.
Barnum Posted November 11, 2007 Author Posted November 11, 2007 Velocity took a quick tour of the immediate vicinity and found little by way of an explanation for the strange creature. The streets were completely devoid of people; they all had successfully evacuated themselves. All that remained were lots of abandoned candy and litter. The other heroes who looked closer at the body of the mummy, also did not discover much answer the question of its origins. The rags were completely limp now, but they were thick and heavy (surely heavier than burial rags). The head was completely misshapen from the repeated blows, but there was no blood . . . or dust . . . or anything one might expect from a giant mummy. And it didn't stink. It wasn't until Hybrid dove into the carcass of the mummy itself, that some clue as to its origin was found.
Thevshi Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Velocity suddenly reappeared near the giant mummy, small whirlwinds of litter kicking up along her path from the speed she moved with. "No sign of anything in the area. And all the civilians have cleared out to safety." She reported.
Griffalo Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 Raindance put his hands on his hips, his eyes turning skyward as if to regard the weathe r- although it might just have been a stare into the middle distance, as his brow furrowed in thought as Velocity returned. "No sign of where this thing came from, then?"
hero4hire Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Hybrid rose out of the Mummy and floated towards the others. "Curiouser and curiouser..." he said as he became solid and landed on the asphalt. "That Dummy is no Mummy! It's mechanical. Real hi-tech stuff too! Not just some girders and pistons wrapped up in Gauze. Maybe that could be our key to tracking where it came from?" Hybrid added hopefully to his explanation. "Track a signal maybe?"
Thevshi Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Velocity had just been about to reply to Raindancer when Hybrid rose back up from the inside of the giant mummy. "Mechanical? Really?" She asked and then shook her head. "Nope, no way to trace a signal here."
Griffalo Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 Raindance mused for a moment. "Well, who do we know with a taste for theatrics and giant robots? Maybe the Freedom League can put us on the right path." He looked somewhat sheepishly at Freedom Eagle. "You don't... know any of them, do you? Personally, I mean?"
congyoglas Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 "Actually," says the Eagle confidently, "I do have some experience with super-technology..." His armored head turns again as he takes in the busy street, and he adds wryly, "But not in the middle of the street like this, with everyone watching...I think I'm going to make some calls." With that, Freedom Eagle reaches into his harness and produces a wireless long-range communicator, a hi-tech device that lets you have telephone conversations miles away from a landline! It appears to have been made by Nokia. "I'll get in touch with the League, then we can see about moving this thing."

But if it comes down to being sneaky during and investigation I can do that as well." Hybrid says turning into a perfect replica of Freedom Eagle. "So I'd like to help...If you will have me."

Thevshi Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 "I want to come along." Velocity spoke up. "I'd like to find out who was behind disrupting this party and ruining my date."
Griffalo Posted November 13, 2007 Posted November 13, 2007 Raindance nods in agreement with Velocity. "My mom and dad were here. Plenty of kids, too."
Barnum Posted November 13, 2007 Author Posted November 13, 2007 In just a few seconds Freedom Eagle was patched through to Daedalus. He was away from Freedom Hall . . . way away at the Lighthouse. He agreed that bringing the mummy to Freedom Hall was the best course, and said that he'd fly back to Freedom City as soon as possible. While Freedom Eagle contacted the Freedom League and the others discussed their plans for investigation, the mummy began to glow red. It was very subtle at first, practically unnoticeable since there was no obvious source for the light, but after a few seconds, it became obvious to everyone that the mummy was starting to glow like a Halloween pumpkin. The red aura looked very familiar. It was similar to the one they had seen just before the mummy had arrived a few minutes ago.
MarkK Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 The glow forestalled his reply especially. "It.. is either going to explode, teleport away, or do some third, unexpected thing. It costs us very little but dignity to lift it well up into the air if nothing pyrotechnic occurs. Everyone with some strength please assisst, barring a correction from the one of us familliar with supertechnology?" He moved at that to start to attempt to lift the mechanical creature into the air.
Griffalo Posted November 14, 2007 Posted November 14, 2007 Raindance nodded to the Emissary. "Can do, big guy." Raising his arms as if conducting an invisible orchestra, the wind began whipping around the robo-mummy's carcass. Soon enough, the tightly focused whirlwind was lifting the body straight up in the air.
hero4hire Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 "Alright! I am with you." Hybrid said and once again intesified his molecular structure, giving it more strength and durability. He then flew beside Emissary "Let's get this thing outta here!"
