Avalon Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 Characters Name: Cobalt Knight Power Level: 10 (156/158PP) Trade-Offs: -2 Attack DC for +2 Attack, -3 Defense for +3 Toughness Unspent PP: 2 Gold Status: 8/30 Alternate Identity: Kenneth Oliver Moray Age: 32 (born June 8 1978, 19; Apparent Age 33) Gender: Male Height: 5' 11" Weight: 192 lbs. Eyes: Blue Hair: Brown Description: Standing just sort of six feet tall, Ken Moray is not what you expect to see when you think about chefs. Instead, he looks more like someone who works as a guy who spends a lot of time outdoors and leading a very active lifestyle rather than someone who stays in a kitchen surrounded by food all day long. He usually wears a simple t-shirt and jeans ensemble with the t-shirt usually having a witty or snarky comment on it. When working inside the kitchen he just dons an apron and gets to work. As the Cobalt Knight, Ken wears a suit of armor that is etched with a multitude of fine markings that each bear a minute rune bearing the name of a great hero from a hundred thousand dimensions who have now passed on. A thin blue mist seems to envelope his armor and sword, not enough to obscure him but enough to add a bit of mysticism to his person. History: Born to an upper middle class parents in a town called Virtue not too far from Freedom City, Kenneth Moray always loved food. When he wasn't playing with the other kids or off exploring the woods surrounding the town, he could be seen hard at work stuffing his face with the tasty dishes his mother and grandmother made. It was no surprise then that he would decide to become a chef. After graduating high school, Kenneth traveled to Europe for a year to get in touch with his roots and, of course, sample the delectable dishes from the ones who know best how to make them. Eventually he enrolled in the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Academy in Paris and graduated with high honors. After his graduation, Kenneth worked as an assistant in La Tour d'Argent in Paris, Moulin de Mougins in Provence, and the Waterside Inn, outside London. For a time, he also worked as the sous-chef in the Amsterdam Hilton before disappearing for a year and reappearing in America perfectly fine except looking a little more worn out. Unbeknownst to everyone except himself and a few others, Ken was out on a drive after a busy shift when he drove into another dimension. Once there, he was beset by various monsters and he would have died if not for the intervention of a knight in blue armor. This warrior, Thelomandaris, was a member of the Order of the Knights of Cobalt, an interdimensional peacekeeping and police force dedicated to protecting the multiverse from enemies within and without. Found as a likely initiate, Ken was quickly inducted to the Order in their base, the massive continent-fortress of Po Ten Lias Ta, in the Great Mind Barrier Reef. There he was schooled in the ways of the order and was made into quite a skilled man of war. His first tour of duty was to assist the senior officers in hunting down a known fugitive known as Calamity Welfare, a mind-jumping mercenary and thief. He spent more than two years hunting the fugitive before finally apprehending the criminal. Once he returned to our dimension, Kenneth found out that only a year had passed but it was enough time for him to feel left out from the world at large. Making the best of what he had, he went back to work and saved enough money to put up his first restaurant in Boston, Massachusetts called "Bon Cuisine". Now, 5 years later, Kenneth Oliver Moray now owns six restaurants across America including the latest in Freedom City, "Le Exotique", a most ambitious establishment consisting of a three-floor building located at The West End. The first 2 floors are the regular restaurant floor, the top floor is surrounded by glass walls to give a pleasant view of the surrounding area with a full set of instruments (enough for a full band) situated on one side for anyone who wants to play as well as the nightly band who plays crowd requests. On weekends, Kenneth himself takes the mic and regales those who would listen to his renditions of popular songs. Personality & Motivation: Kenneth is a happy-go-lucky kind of person who has a passion for always experiencing new things. Even inside the kitchen, he likes to dabble with mixing various strange (and sometimes effective) ingredients (including some unknown to his staff and patrons that he has taken from various dimensions during his duties) much to the chagrin of his unwilling guinea...er...food tasters. As the Cobalt Knight of this dimension, he is soft-spoken with a hint of steel in his voice. He adopts a sterner and more serious attitude than in his civilian life. He holds the codes of his knightly oath as a serious responsibility but he will not shy from ignoring them if it is the right thing to do. Powers & Tactics: Drawing on the memories of heroes long gone as an energy source, the Cobalt Knight armor is able to form objects symbolic of certain hero archetypes, fire a barrage of various weapons at a distance, form chains to bind his opponents, fly and create portals to other dimensions. The blue mists that surrounds him can also be made to expand out to an area of 250 feet to obscure the hearing and vision of his opponents as well as the mystic senses of others. Aside from this, Kenneth is also a master combatant equally adept in fighting close-quarters combat and at a distance though his ability to avoid hits are not up to par since he relies heavily on his Cobalt Knight armor to protect him. Complications: Enemies: As a member of the Cobalt Knight Corps, Kenneth has enemies ranging from petty thieves and smugglers to interdimensional conquerors. All of whom bear a grudge against all the members of the Cobalt Knights. Responsibility: Ken has a responsibility to his businesses and the staff who work under him. Secret (Identity): No one outside of the Cobalt Knight Corps knows that Kenneth Oliver Moray is the superhero Cobalt Knight. To Protect and Serve: Being a Cobalt Knight entails certain responsibilities. They are a police and peacekeeping force and they have to protect the various dimensions and the beings that reside within them. In Brief: Mystic knight tasked with guiding souls to safety and protecting the various dimensions of the multiverse alongside his fellow knights. Ecalsneerg Posted July 5, 2010 Posted July 5, 2010 History: Looks good, but an interdimensional police force is really something we'd like more information on. Stats: 6+6+6+2+4+4 = 28 pp Str: 16 (+3) Dex: 16 (+3) Con: 16 (+3) Int: 12 (+1) Wis: 14 (+2) Cha: 14 (+2) Adds up. Combat: 24+8 = 32 pp Attack: +12 Grapple: +15 Defense: +7 (+2 flat-footed) Knockback: -1 (without armor)/ -11 (with armor) Initiative: +3 Adds up. I personally would make more of the Attack up from Accurate/Attack Focus/Attack Specialisation, but who am I to object to a player getting base Attack? Saves: 3+0+5 = 8 pp Toughness: +13 (+3 Con, +10 other) Fortitude: +6 (+3 Con, +3) Reflex: +3 (+3 Dex, +0) Will: +7 (+2 Wis, +5) Adds up. I would note that exotic saves are pretty low for a PL 10. They average out to 5, Shaen generally recommends averaging to 7-8 at least for a PL 10, even if that average comes from one high save. Skills: 48 r = 12 pp Concenctration 8 (+10) Diplomacy 8 (+10) Language (Base: English; Others known: Dutch, French, Italian, Japanese) Perform (Singing) 3 (+5) Profession (Chef) 9 (+11) Notice 8 (+10) Search 4 (+5) Sense Motive 4 (+6) Adds up, but I'd format it: Language 4 (Dutch, French, Italian, Japanese; native: English) since your way confused my adding at a swift glance. Also, out of curiosity... Dutch? Doesn't seem like a choice that'd leap out at me. (Not an objection, genuine curiosity) Feats: 10pp Accurate Attack All-Out Attack Benefit (Wealthy) Defensive Attack Dodge Focus 3 Power Attack Takedown Attack 2 Adds up, but is there any reason he has no feats linked to other things but combat? Even Connected or Contacts to represent help from his organisation? Also, to clarify, you are aware Wealth 1 is just quite rich, not millionaire level, although it stills makes sense if his cash is tied up in his restaurants. Powers: 64+6 = 70 pp Devices themself add up. Before I do the maths, can you format the powers in the correct way, such as: Protection 10 (Extras: Impervious [+1]) [20dp] Flight 7 (1,000 MPH, Feats: 1 Alternate Power) [15dp] AP: Super-Movement 3 (Dimension Travel 3 [Any Dimension]) Cobalt Knight Armor – Device 16 (Hard to Lose) - 64 pp – Protection 10 (Impervious [+1]) - Flight 7 AP: Super-Movement 3 (Dimension Travel 3 [Any Dimension]) -Super-Senses 1 (Communications link to the Sapphire High Council, Dimensional) Memories of Fallen Heroes – Array 17 (Affects Insubstantial 2) -Dynamic Base: Create Object 10 (Movable [+1], Precise, Stationary, Subtle, Tether) -DAP: Blast 8 (Barrage of Weapons; Autofire [+2], Improved Range, Variable Effect [slashing/Piercing/Bludgeoning]) -DAP: Snare 8 (Chains of the Once-Imprisoned; Reversible, Tether) -DAP: Obscure 6 (Visual, Auditory and Mental; Limited – Normal Vision Only [-1], Selective Attack [+1]) Mystic Sword – Device 2 (Easy to Lose) – 6 pp – Strike 5 (Affects Incorporeal 2, Improved Critical 2, Mighty) Seems to add, but without costs it's hard to judge. Help us help you Drawbacks: 4 = 4 pp Normal Identity (Major, Common [Full-Round]) – 4 pp DC Block: Barrage of Weapons (Blast 8) --- 23/Toughness --- Bruised, Staged Mystic Sword --- 23/Toughness --- Bruised, Staged Chains of the Once-Imprisoned --- 18/Reflex --- Entangled, Staged Unarmed --- 18/Toughness --- Bruised, Staged Costs: Abilities (28) + Combat (32) + Saves (8) + Skills (12) + Feats (10) + Powers (70) - Drawbacks (4) = 156 pp note: I'd like to port over the 6 pp from The Vestige thus the 156 pp build
Avalon Posted July 5, 2010 Author Posted July 5, 2010 Looks good, but an interdimensional police force is really something we'd like more information on. Would a separate post in somewhere like the News forum do for the added info on the Cobalt Knights? Adds up. I would note that exotic saves are pretty low for a PL 10. They average out to 5, Shaen generally recommends averaging to 7-8 at least for a PL 10, even if that average comes from one high save. Didn't have any points to spare to bump them up. He'll be a hard one to damage but he won't stand up to much exotic attacks. I accept that. Adds up, but I'd format it: Language 4 (Dutch, French, Italian, Japanese; native: English) since your way confused my adding at a swift glance. Also, out of curiosity... Dutch? Doesn't seem like a choice that'd leap out at me. (Not an objection, genuine curiosity) It's mostly a way to represent his time working in the Amsterdam Hilton and mingling with the natives there. Adds up, but is there any reason he has no feats linked to other things but combat? Even Connected or Contacts to represent help from his organisation? Also, to clarify, you are aware Wealth 1 is just quite rich, not millionaire level, although it stills makes sense if his cash is tied up in his restaurants. I could take out the Defensive Attack to bring in Connected. Edit: Finished all the suggested edits for a cleaner sheet.
