Dr Archeville Posted November 17, 2010 Posted November 17, 2010 What if... we talked about FC PbP the same way we talk about comics? (2010.11.15 - 00:24:51) angrydurf[AFK] :argh:'s as he realizes his cleverly researched (Ok haphazardly) homage name is another damn Jack (2010.11.15 - 00:25:01) ShaenTheBrain: Don't fight it, Durf. (2010.11.15 - 00:25:21) AvengerAssembled: Face it, durf! You just hit the Jack-pot! (2010.11.15 - 00:25:24) alderwitch: Look on the bright side, that apparently increases the chances I'll try and hook up with your character with one of mine (2010.11.15 - 00:25:34) angrydurf[AFK]: ... (2010.11.15 - 00:25:45) alderwitch: ... which means I might actually draw him (2010.11.15 - 00:25:50) angrydurf[AFK]: Yay! (2010.11.15 - 00:25:54) ShaenTheBrain: Nothing being good on TV increases the chance of your characters hooking up with him. (2010.11.15 - 00:25:54) ChatBot: angrydurf has set their status to Online (2010.11.15 - 00:25:55) AvengerAssembled: Hooray! (2010.11.15 - 00:26:03) AvengerAssembled: Who's getting named Jack? (2010.11.15 - 00:26:14) alderwitch: Or no one else willing to play romance plots with me (2010.11.15 - 00:26:19) angrydurf: My super soldier done right (2010.11.15 - 00:26:19) Electra: How many Jacks can one city hold? (2010.11.15 - 00:26:26) ShaenTheBrain: We're about to find out! (2010.11.15 - 00:26:27) Fox: All of them. All the jacks. (2010.11.15 - 00:26:30) Fox: (But only one rubber ball.) (2010.11.15 - 00:26:36) AvengerAssembled: Jack in the box! (2010.11.15 - 00:26:42) ShaenTheBrain immediately gets to work statting up a bouncy-stretchy guy (2010.11.15 - 00:26:50) angrydurf: uhm yea for quite awhile actually ... (2010.11.15 - 00:26:58) Electra: We already have four jacks, any more and we're going to need a second deck. (2010.11.15 - 00:27:04) AvengerAssembled: Crisis of Infinite Jacks! Not just a solo crossover thread. (2010.11.15 - 00:27:19) ChatBot: Geez3r logs out of the Chat. (2010.11.15 - 00:27:29) Electra: And hey, if you count Hellion, that makes five. (2010.11.15 - 00:27:34) ShaenTheBrain: This is what the editors meant when they said the Crisis of Infinite Jacks would have lasting reprocussions in the FCU. (2010.11.15 - 00:27:49) angrydurf ponders just going back to his first impulse of going with Roger Stevens. (2010.11.15 - 00:28:00) ShaenTheBrain: Of course, odds are most of the new Jack titles will get cancelled within the first 18 months. (2010.11.15 - 00:28:25) Gizmo: Nooooo... (2010.11.15 - 00:28:43) ShaenTheBrain: On the bright side, JackB will be the second character after Grimalkin to get his own ongoing monthly title outside The Interceptors. (2010.11.15 - 00:29:02) ShaenTheBrain: And that one will last, since he established such a rich supporting cast in the team book. (2010.11.15 - 00:29:17) Gizmo plays the long game! (2010.11.15 - 00:29:21) AvengerAssembled: We need new Jack heroes. For a new Jack world. (2010.11.15 - 00:29:22) angrydurf: But Ellie sadly will not (2010.11.15 - 00:29:31) ShaenTheBrain: Plus, the fans love him, even if the editorial staff has some grudges against him. (2010.11.15 - 00:29:31) Electra: Mark changes his name to Jack, because it's the wave of the future! (2010.11.15 - 00:29:43) angrydurf clears the old chinese food out of the fridge we're gonna need some space (2010.11.15 - 00:29:46) AvengerAssembled: See, Ellie was going to be on Young Freedom, but the writer said "Meh." (2010.11.15 - 00:29:47) Fox: How many of those Jacks are female? (2010.11.15 - 00:30:01) ShaenTheBrain: Mike's middle name gets retconned to Jack, so Durf can maintain a perfect record. (2010.11.15 - 00:30:04) AvengerAssembled: So instead she's just in background shots and occasional walk-ons. (2010.11.15 - 00:30:12) Gizmo: Well... if we count Jaci O (2010.11.15 - 00:30:20) ShaenTheBrain: And Jacqueline des Epees (2010.11.15 - 00:30:26) Gizmo: ...Earth-XX Jack... (2010.11.15 - 00:30:39) Gizmo: A few? (2010.11.15 - 00:30:50) Fox is glad to see parity enforced. (2010.11.15 - 00:30:53) Electra: Hellion wants to know what the hell is wrong with James, anyway? (2010.11.15 - 00:31:07) AvengerAssembled: Well, the other Jacks are poor folk. (2010.11.15 - 00:31:09) Gizmo: Man, where to begin with what's wrong with him... (2010.11.15 - 00:31:12) AvengerAssembled: They can't afford the full James. (2010.11.15 - 00:31:22) Gizmo: It's actually true! (2010.11.15 - 00:31:23) angrydurf: We all want to know what the hell is wrong with James (2010.11.15 - 00:31:30) Electra: (2010.11.15 - 00:31:35) ShaenTheBrain: Well, for starters, he has terrible taste in women. (2010.11.15 - 00:31:45) angrydurf: and we're pretty sure it has somethign to do with Erin or maybe an unhealthy fondness for his spacship... (2010.11.15 - 00:31:49) Electra: Well, that's true. (2010.11.15 - 00:31:57) AvengerAssembled: His sexy, sexy spaceship. (2010.11.15 - 00:32:18) Electra: Angel, Erin and Zoe say nothing good about him as a connoisseur. (2010.11.15 - 00:32:39) AvengerAssembled: And he never tapped Erin the way he did Angel and Zoe. (2010.11.15 - 00:33:04) Electra: No, but he had actual feelings for her, which is probably even worse. (2010.11.15 - 00:33:55) AvengerAssembled: Truly spoken! (2010.11.15 - 00:35:01) Gizmo: Poor, messed up James. (2010.11.15 - 00:35:17) Gizmo: Well, rich, messed up James, anyway. (2010.11.15 - 00:35:30) Electra: Poor little rich devil boy. (2010.11.15 - 00:35:39) AvengerAssembled: The saddest (but handsomest!) prince of space! (2010.11.15 - 00:35:43) ShaenTheBrain: So I've heard cancellation rumors concerning both The Midnighters and Avenger's solo book. Between that and the cancellation of Knights of Freedom, I'm starting to wonder if Jack Faretti's just cursed. (2010.11.15 - 00:36:13) Gizmo: Nah, he's just such an unlikable character, the fan inevitably tire of him. (2010.11.15 - 00:36:18) ShaenTheBrain: Does the audience just not love him like they used to? Did we overexpose him? Is he going down the Wolverine path? (2010.11.15 - 00:36:26) AvengerAssembled: No, Jack Faretti, Gizmo. (2010.11.15 - 00:36:33) ShaenTheBrain: I mean, there was about a year, year and a half there where he was appearing in every other FCU book. (2010.11.15 - 00:36:40) Gizmo: I kid, comic book fans love violent psychopaths. (2010.11.15 - 00:36:47) AvengerAssembled: It's true, they do! (2010.11.15 - 00:36:54) Electra: They just needed to shake up his supporting cast a little bit. (2010.11.15 - 00:37:19) ShaenTheBrain: I dunno, I heard the Ouroboros miniseries didn't sell up to expectations either... (2010.11.15 - 00:37:19) AvengerAssembled: There was a thing with the lawyers where they lost the rights to most of his supporting cast, so the title went on hiatus. (2010.11.15 - 00:37:28) AvengerAssembled: But now they're back! (2010.11.15 - 00:37:44) Electra: Did a couple crossover events with some characters from the Young Freedom line, defrosted his wife, he's fine. (2010.11.15 - 00:38:31) ShaenTheBrain: Of course, the Grue Invasion III crossover event kinda blew up in everybody's faces, to say the least. (2010.11.15 - 00:38:55) AvengerAssembled: Yeah, some editorial heads rolled for that one. (2010.11.15 - 00:38:56) Fox: Artist/writer conflicts, release delays.... (2010.11.15 - 00:39:07) Electra: Yeah, that was a serious letdown. No real resolution, just a couple sloppy epilogues. (2010.11.15 - 00:39:16) Gizmo: Well, they finally decided to use that Midnight license they'd had kicking around for decades, so they certainly seem to be trying out different Cowl type properties. (2010.11.15 - 00:39:36) ShaenTheBrain: But retailers still can't keep the House of L trade in stock. (2010.11.15 - 00:39:55) AvengerAssembled: (Because Rick Lucas teleports in and steals them! Hey-o!) (2010.11.15 - 00:39:56) Electra: Now if they would only decide whether Midnight's going to be a solo title or not! (2010.11.15 - 00:40:03) Gizmo: Well, you know how Geckoman completists are, Shaen. (2010.11.15 - 00:40:27) ShaenTheBrain rushes to put a sweater on over his Geckoman t-shirt (2010.11.15 - 00:40:33) ShaenTheBrain: I have no idea what you're talking about, Gizmo. (2010.11.15 - 00:40:37) Gizmo: I'm hoping these rumours about a 'Midnight Inc.' family of titles is just speculation. (2010.11.15 - 00:40:56) Electra: He wears that Geckoman t-shirt ironically. (2010.11.15 - 00:41:12) ShaenTheBrain No he doesn't (2010.11.15 - 00:41:18) Gizmo: Although the Midnight and the Midnighters cartoon is some fun, campy stuff and you can't argue with the voice casting. (2010.11.15 - 00:41:19) ShaenTheBrain: Yes. Ironically. (2010.11.15 - 00:41:42) Derp: speaking of, ICly, how merchandised is FC? Do they sell freedom league tshirts? (2010.11.15 - 00:41:45) Electra: It's totally non-canon, though. Everybody knows they weren't even contemporaneous! (2010.11.15 - 00:41:52) Electra: It's just entertainment for kids. (2010.11.15 - 00:41:57) ShaenTheBrain: Some heroes are more merchandised than others. (2010.11.15 - 00:42:05) angrydurf: Depends on the hero Derp (2010.11.15 - 00:42:11) angrydurf: :ninja:'d (2010.11.15 - 00:42:13) Electra: The Freedom League has a fair bit of merch. And there are some conventions. (2010.11.15 - 00:42:15) Gizmo: Sure, but it brings some great exposure to classic and newer characters, E. (2010.11.15 - 00:42:16) ShaenTheBrain: You can totally buy an Ace Danger lunchbox for your kid. (2010.11.15 - 00:42:18) AvengerAssembled: Fusion was merchandised. Until . (2010.11.15 - 00:42:29) AvengerAssembled: Edge says "Yes. For your kid. <_> (2010.11.15 - 00:42:39) angrydurf: Gossamer is HUGE in japan (2010.11.15 - 00:42:55) ShaenTheBrain: Cue the eye-rolling. (2010.11.15 - 00:43:01) Gizmo: Last week's episode featured Cobalt Templar and Freedom Eagle II! (2010.11.15 - 00:43:10) Electra: I think it's risky to spin Edge off into his own series. He carries a lot of the Young Freedom books, but can he carry his own title? (2010.11.15 - 00:43:22) angrydurf: and Ace Danger merchandise from the sixties is big bucks on the collector circuit (2010.11.15 - 00:43:24) AvengerAssembled: Freedom Eagle II's sweet new ride! (2010.11.15 - 00:43:31) Gizmo: I think he needs straight men to play off of. (2010.11.15 - 00:43:31) ShaenTheBrain: It's basically up to each player. Some characters have more public personas, or public-friendly personas, than others. (2010.11.15 - 00:44:12) Derp: Do teenage heroes get their own books? Or is it all "new sidekick" and "new Claremont student" (2010.11.15 - 00:44:18) Electra: The Phalanx-Psyche wedding thing is totally a publicity move, though. You know something's going to mess it up at the last minute. (2010.11.15 - 00:44:24) ShaenTheBrain: Probably depends on the hero. (2010.11.15 - 00:44:44) angrydurf: (21:44:18) Electra: The Phalanx-Psyche wedding thing is totally a publicity move, though. You know something's going to mess it up at the last minute. My Money is on Zoe (2010.11.15 - 00:44:45) AvengerAssembled: They're actually repurposing the rights for Edge out to cartoons and comics outside of the US. Anti-landmine PSAs and such! Request by the original creator. (2010.11.15 - 00:44:46) Gizmo: Ugh, it'll just get retconned. How am I supposed to relate to a married Phalanx? (2010.11.15 - 00:45:14) ShaenTheBrain: I'm just hoping they don't clumsily retcon Psyche's "coming out" by having her make a deal with Mr. Infamy or something. (2010.11.15 - 00:45:15) Lone_Star: The Kid Cthulhu cartoon was cancelled as soon as Jhonen Vasquez started animating. >.> (2010.11.15 - 00:45:45) Lone_Star: (2010.11.15 - 00:45:54) ShaenTheBrain: Yeah, Lonestar, but the first few episodes are coming out on DVD, and online preorders are through the roof. (2010.11.15 - 00:46:01) Electra: I have to say, silly as it is, I do like the Super-Oliver kids' title. It's just silly enough to work. And the cape is adorable. (2010.11.15 - 00:46:07) Gizmo: Talk about a cult classic! (2010.11.15 - 00:46:11) ShaenTheBrain: I hear Cartoon Network's looking at picking it up if it sells well enough. (2010.11.15 - 00:46:17) AvengerAssembled: Besides, Edge has shown a lot of depth as a character, particularly after House of L. (2010.11.15 - 00:46:20) Lone_Star: There are a few diehard fans of the series. I think they sell T-shirts for the show at Hot Topic. (2010.11.15 - 00:46:37) Fox: Dragonfly has a slowly growing audience. She has geek appeal! (2010.11.15 - 00:46:57) Gizmo: Edge lives or dies based on his supporting cast, though. They need to be careful about just picking him up and dropping in a whole new setting with a whole new mission statement. (2010.11.15 - 00:47:04) Electra: Just wait, as soon as she catches anyone's attention in the office, she's getting a new costume and a new set of boobs. (2010.11.15 - 00:47:17) Fox: GK had a short but under-appreciated run, cut short due to editorial mismanagement. He's cropping up as a strong supporting character in other titles, though. (2010.11.15 - 00:47:17) ShaenTheBrain: Y'know, I think Zephyr's got some potential as a character, but the Young Freedom writers can't quite seem to decide what to do with her. (2010.11.15 - 00:47:23) Derp: They wanted Joe Kelly and Fabien Nicieza to do the Celestial comic, but the editors wouldnt let such a pairing come to be! (2010.11.15 - 00:47:32) Electra: She'll be Dragon-fly or something wretched like that. (2010.11.15 - 00:47:41) Derp: So they got Joss Whedon (2010.11.15 - 00:47:51) Fox: Ugh, true, Electra. (2010.11.15 - 00:47:52) AvengerAssembled: And so it was canceled the next day. (2010.11.15 - 00:48:07) Electra: Zephyr's definitely underexposed. I can't even remember the last time she made an appearance as anything more than scenery. (2010.11.15 - 00:48:09) Gizmo: Yeah, she was totally the character you loved to hate, but then the whole thing with Eddie happened, and it's like the writers want you to like her instead now. (2010.11.15 - 00:48:13) Fox: If she gets too popular they'll reboot her as some kind of edgy, in-your-face Hollywood geek with double-Fs and a smoking habit. (2010.11.15 - 00:48:32) Lone_Star: Anyone ever read Mad Dog? That one really gritty series by Liefeld? (2010.11.15 - 00:48:40) ShaenTheBrain: Once editorial got word about Whedon's name on Celestial, it actually got cancelled mid-issue. You can buy issue #1 on the stands, but after the first half, the pages are blank. (2010.11.15 - 00:48:43) Lone_Star: The dude had so many spikes on his jacket...dang. (2010.11.15 - 00:48:56) Derp: No, because Liefeld cant keep a deadline to save his life (2010.11.15 - 00:49:13) AvengerAssembled: Yeah, the guy who held Breakdown's rights sued the company! Man, did they drop a bridge on him. (2010.11.15 - 00:49:15) Lone_Star: Oh, almost forgot. He also apparently didn't have feet. (2010.11.15 - 00:49:17) Electra: Sorry LS, I'm opposed to cruelty to animals. (2010.11.15 - 00:49:21) Lone_Star: (2010.11.15 - 00:49:22) Gizmo: 'Frank Castle as a vet' was a pretty funny idea, but they tried to play it too straight. (2010.11.15 - 00:49:27) Lone_Star: Doo doom tish (2010.11.15 - 00:49:48) AvengerAssembled: They still have to keep the character active under terms of the contract, but now the property's effectively poison now. (2010.11.15 - 00:49:55) Lone_Star: Yeah...he fit right in with 90's characters though. (2010.11.15 - 00:49:56) Derp: If they would have got Liefeld Mad Dog would never see the light of day! (2010.11.15 - 00:50:17) Lone_Star: Especially after they added the pouches. So many pouches. (2010.11.15 - 00:50:21) Lone_Star: (2010.11.15 - 00:50:24) Electra: I don't know what they were thinking. That prom issue was ridiculous. Somebody better retcon it that he was a Grue impostor or something. (2010.11.15 - 00:50:46) Fox: Didn't you hear? They tried to re-imagine Breakdown's title as a gritty, streetwise punk, living the hard life after what he did. (2010.11.15 - 00:50:55) Fox: Reviews haven't been great. (2010.11.15 - 00:51:11) Electra: It's got huge camp appeal Fox (2010.11.15 - 00:51:17) Gizmo: Well, I'm not too worried about Jill O'Cure getting killed off. They're making a big deal about this being the year of women in comics, and she's recognizable enough that you can stick her in the all-girl team-ups to tie it in with the Jack of all Blades property. (2010.11.15 - 00:51:17) ShaenTheBrain: Nah, the creator who technically owns the rights to Breakdown hates retcons with a passion. He insists on moving forward with every new development, no matter how unlikable it makes the character. (2010.11.15 - 00:51:32) Electra: I've heard of people having live readings of the new Breakdown line. (2010.11.15 - 00:51:41) Derp: See, Liefeld was working on The Big Man and that comic NEVER SHOWED UP (2010.11.15 - 00:51:50) AvengerAssembled: Yeah, those are the only people paying money for the series. (2010.11.15 - 00:51:58) Electra: Money's money. (2010.11.15 - 00:52:00) Lone_Star: Liefeld just... shouldn't be paid for anything ever. (2010.11.15 - 00:52:25) ShaenTheBrain: Well you could always tell that the Young Freedom writers felt like Breakdown was shoved down their throats by the editors. (2010.11.15 - 00:52:27) Derp: glad they didn't pay him for that Wolverine ripoff (2010.11.15 - 00:52:31) Derp: (2010.11.15 - 00:52:39) Gizmo: Jack became way more popular when Jill started getting more screen time, anyway. (2010.11.15 - 00:52:41) Lone_Star: (2010.11.15 - 00:52:51) Gizmo: True, Shaen. (2010.11.15 - 00:52:52) AvengerAssembled: Yeah, I'm not sure what the people doing Fusion's series are thinking money-wise. They've got to know who's buying it. (2010.11.15 - 00:52:52) Electra: I don't know why Jill O'Cure doesn't just get put on Young Freedom. It seems like she'd be a natural fit, but maybe they're worried about overexposure. (2010.11.15 - 00:52:52) ShaenTheBrain: All his stories are parodies if you really look at them. (2010.11.15 - 00:53:06) Gizmo: Pandering to the 'X-TREME' demographic. (2010.11.15 - 00:53:33) Derp: There's an XTRYM demograph nowadays? (2010.11.15 - 00:53:42) Gizmo: It's really weird since the same guy who does the Jack and Jill series is on the YF writing team. (2010.11.15 - 00:53:46) Lone_Star: Who's writing Doktor Archeville lately? That comic was way over my head. (2010.11.15 - 00:54:00) ShaenTheBrain: It's never been a casual read. (2010.11.15 - 00:54:03) Electra: Yeah, but you can tell he's a Midnight fanboy. Maybe he doesn't want to take the time. (2010.11.15 - 00:54:18) Lone_Star: Too much time spent in his lab, if you ask me. (2010.11.15 - 00:54:23) AvengerAssembled: Hey, who isn't, Electra? (2010.11.15 - 00:54:30) Lone_Star: That seems to be half the issue. (2010.11.15 - 00:54:47) Electra: Doktor Archeville is awesome, but it's not for the dilettante. You really have to care enough to keep up. (2010.11.15 - 00:54:49) Gizmo: Well, you'd have to be, to revive an old, obscure character like that, even if it is a gimicky, 'reimagining'. (2010.11.15 - 00:54:51) Lone_Star: And the accent that they write in gets difficult to comprehend from time to time. (2010.11.15 - 00:55:24) ShaenTheBrain: We don't actually know who the writer on Doktor Archeville is, because he just uses the title character's name as a pen name. But he's basically a less cynical Warren Ellis. Always incorporating the latest developments in science and technology into the series, along with some really obscure Germanic history and folklore. It's an awesome series, but it really needs footnotes. (2010.11.15 - 00:55:30) Gizmo: I mean, his grandson? The whole point of Midnight was he had no powers! Anyone could be Travis Hunter if they worked hard enough! (2010.11.15 - 00:55:37) Lone_Star: (2010.11.15 - 00:55:53) AvengerAssembled: Hey, that reminds me, guys: Wild Mass Guessing (2010.11.15 - 00:56:00) Fox: I can't always keep up with Doktor Archeville, but I try to at least catch the narration boxes. The good/evil internal dialog? Brilliant writing. (2010.11.15 - 00:56:12) Electra: I always liked Midnight I, I'm glad they brought him back without youthening him or something really cheap like that. (2010.11.15 - 00:56:25) AvengerAssembled: Is it true House of L was supposed to be an actual reboot of the line that got retconned at the last minutes? (2010.11.15 - 00:56:40) Lone_Star: Well...to be fair Vasquez pretty much jumped on it. (2010.11.15 - 00:56:42) Gizmo: Yeah, that would have been totally Silver Age style junk, E. (2010.11.15 - 00:56:50) Electra: No way, they wouldn't have rebooted without Psylanx. (2010.11.15 - 00:56:57) Lone_Star: Everything he does is dark. Dude wrote a comic book called Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. (2010.11.15 - 00:57:01) Gizmo: Yeah, true. (2010.11.15 - 00:57:05) Electra: It was always just a side deal. (2010.11.15 - 00:57:16) Fox: Hm. I dunno, AA - my impression was that they were just kinda feeling the water. Not committing to anything until they heard the consumer feedback. (2010.11.15 - 00:57:20) Lone_Star: Blake spends half the time moping anyway. (2010.11.15 - 00:57:21) ShaenTheBrain: Honestly, AA, I think it depended on the initial sales figures. If the fans really liked the new direction of the titles involved, I don't think the writers would have gone ahead with the dark reveals later on. (2010.11.15 - 00:57:21) Derp: You mean Geoff Johns wrote House of L? (2010.11.15 - 00:57:31) Lone_Star: Small wonder Hot Topic kids eat it up. (2010.11.15 - 00:57:41) ShaenTheBrain: Nah, HoL was obviously one giant Take That! against Geoff Johns. (2010.11.15 - 00:57:42) Gizmo: Plus, they probably would have wiped everyone's memories, except maybe Wander's. They're always adding more reasons for her to angst, it's ridiculous. Like she doesn't have enough trauma? (2010.11.15 - 00:57:45) Fox: Shaen! What are you doing in my head? That place isn't safe! (2010.11.15 - 00:58:13) ShaenTheBrain: But I'm cynical like that. (2010.11.15 - 00:58:16) Gizmo: I hate when you can so tell a male writing team is trying to be deep by dumping on the strong, female character. (2010.11.15 - 00:58:22) Electra: Man, the Wander reboot in House of L sucked large. I would've stopped buying entirely if they'd replaced the original with that. (2010.11.15 - 00:58:26) Derp: Angst, the way Joss Whedon would want it (2010.11.15 - 00:58:31) ShaenTheBrain: You're not trapped in here with me, Fox. I'm trapped in here with you. (2010.11.15 - 00:58:42) Lone_Star: Exactly. (2010.11.15 - 00:58:56) AvengerAssembled: I think that was part of the Take That, E. (2010.11.15 - 00:59:09) AvengerAssembled: "You want a happy Wander? We'll give you the happiest Wander you can handle!" (2010.11.15 - 00:59:27) Electra: Is that why they made Edge so wangsty after that? (2010.11.15 - 00:59:41) Gizmo: Well, you know the new Midnight was dead the second he became part of her supporting cast. (2010.11.15 - 00:59:52) AvengerAssembled: The writer claims it's a meta-commentary on wangsty characters. (2010.11.15 - 00:59:56) Electra: Yeah, I'm still waiting for the fridge to drop there. (2010.11.15 - 01:00:09) ShaenTheBrain: Actually, you know what upcoming title I'm kind of excited about? Shockwasp. I hear that one got a strong start. (2010.11.15 - 01:00:14) AvengerAssembled: But then, that's always what they say. (2010.11.15 - 01:00:19) AvengerAssembled: And now, night all (2010.11.15 - 01:00:20) Gizmo: It's not like he'll stay dead, but they'll probably use as an excuse for a mini leading into a solo series. (2010.11.15 - 01:00:21) ChatBot: AvengerAssembled logs out of the Chat. (2010.11.15 - 01:00:44) Electra: At least they're going real slow. Sex=death, so at this rate, they've got awhile yet. (2010.11.15 - 01:00:46) ShaenTheBrain: Shame about Ace Danger getting cancelled, though. (2010.11.15 - 01:01:01) Electra: I was disappointed about that. My favorite guilty pleasure comic. (2010.11.15 - 01:01:07) angrydurf: and a tease to get all the hell/rin fans hopes up (2010.11.15 - 01:01:24) Gizmo: I dunno, isn't Shockwasp just Dynamo! with flying instead of super speed? (2010.11.15 - 01:01:34) Electra: No comic did beefcake like Ace Danger. (2010.11.15 - 01:01:48) Electra: Well, except Avenger, but that's too gritty for me. (2010.11.15 - 01:01:50) angrydurf: Well we all knew the Ace Danger modern reboot was just to pump up interest so they could move all those "essential guides" (2010.11.15 - 01:02:15) Electra: I don't know what it is, but the artist on Avenger just can't keep the guy's shirt on him. (2010.11.15 - 01:02:26) Gizmo: Hey, it got them to bring Bombshell back, too, durf, so it obviously worked. (2010.11.15 - 01:02:36) Electra: It's always shirtless pictures and ass shots. (2010.11.15 - 01:02:47) ShaenTheBrain: I'm just hoping that the Bombshell ongoing title they've been hinting at gets greenlit. All her appearances in other books (like Ace Danger) have been great, and her Scarab stories are solid (even if the writer on that one couldn't put a book out on time if you put a gun to his head). (2010.11.15 - 01:02:48) Gizmo: The blood shows up better on the pale skin, is what it is. (2010.11.15 - 01:03:11) ShaenTheBrain: (Seriously, the guy's good, but he should stick to writing miniseries. He can't keep up an ongoing for s**t.) (2010.11.15 - 01:03:12) Electra: Everything shows up better on the pale skin. I thought he was supposed to be sneaky! (2010.11.15 - 01:03:44) Gizmo: He always ends up fighting, anyway. That's one of the things I actually don't mind about the new Midnight kid. (2010.11.15 - 01:03:58) alderwitch: Well you know its serious when his shirt comes off. That's how you tell (2010.11.15 - 01:04:24) Electra: Good point, the new Midnight seems to be able to make plans, where Avenger is mostly just fighting and biting. (2010.11.15 - 01:04:30) ShaenTheBrain: But then again, the writer on the Tomb of The Scarab revival is an editor for like half the FCU lines, so that probably keeps him pretty busy. (2010.11.15 - 01:04:37) angrydurf: Hey its not as bad as the blatant fanservice over on Valkyrie; at least there is plot to Avengers titles (2010.11.15 - 01:04:39) Electra: Maybe that's why they made him a legacy, to give him someone to learn to fight from. (2010.11.15 - 01:04:40) Gizmo: Sometimes he's actually sneaky without getting caught and uses that to solve the problem. With Avenger and Arrowhawk you just want them to get to the good part with the fighting! (2010.11.15 - 01:04:55) Electra: Oh God, let's not even talk about Valkyrie. (2010.11.15 - 01:05:05) Electra: I swear, I picked it up in the shop and the pages were sticky. (2010.11.15 - 01:05:13) Gizmo: Seriously. Way to put women in comics back a decade. (2010.11.15 - 01:05:17) ShaenTheBrain: Ugh. Don't even get me started on Valkyrie. Lazy and inconsistent plotting, stereotypical characters, cynical pandering to the worst in the readers... (2010.11.15 - 01:05:58) Electra: Not to mention wedging the character into every damn event they can. (2010.11.15 - 01:06:00) ShaenTheBrain: I'd think Valkyrie was satire, but I don't give the creative team that much credit. (2010.11.15 - 01:06:01) Lone_Star: I've heard they sell it in adult bookstores. >.> (2010.11.15 - 01:06:10) Gizmo: Can you believe it's the same company that puts out Fusion? I mean, they adapted a manga character into something less offensive than that! (2010.11.15 - 01:06:59) Electra: I'm pretty sure they're looking at different demographics for those titles, Giz. After Divine's title folded, they needed something else in the slot. (2010.11.15 - 01:07:00) alderwitch: Cancelled! (2010.11.15 - 01:07:03) angrydurf: Well Divine made Tarot look tame (2010.11.15 - 01:07:04) Gizmo: I could understand if they just wanted Valkyrie on the cover to sell books, but then she actually gets whole pages of dialogue, too. (2010.11.15 - 01:07:25) ShaenTheBrain: Also, I hear the writer for Tomb of The Scarab was really pissed about Valkyrie, because he'd been pitching a similar idea for over a year and they retooled it behind his back. (2010.11.15 - 01:07:31) Electra: Yeah, but check where the "camera" is focused during all the dialogue. (2010.11.15 - 01:07:50) alderwitch: Yeah but the writer for that book is always coming up with other ideas to spend his time on instead of the flagship. (2010.11.15 - 01:08:00) Gizmo: Ha! Yeah, the one spot not covered with speech bubbles, right? (2010.11.15 - 01:08:06) Electra: On the other hand, Shaen, the only good thing to say about Valkyrie is that you get new issues all the time. (2010.11.15 - 01:08:29) angrydurf: Yea the one title Liefeld can get out on time ... (2010.11.15 - 01:08:43) Electra: That Scarab writer has been so busy tweaking other titles, I don't remember when he last put out an issue. (2010.11.15 - 01:09:24) Electra: It is a shame, though, that a good concept was totally wasted. (2010.11.15 - 01:09:28) ShaenTheBrain: He's on the editorial team for like half the FCU line in one capacity or another, and he's been doing a lot of the behind-the-scenes business end of the company lately, so he hasn't had much time or energy for the creative end. (2010.11.15 - 01:09:30) Gizmo: Well, as much as I like Scarab, I'd rather see his influence on more books, y'know? I mean, he does a great job as one of FCU's chief editors, and for the greater good, I'm glad he's there. I'd really like to see more Scarab and Zephyr, but I fear what might happen should his attention be drawn away from the greater whole. (2010.11.15 - 01:10:45) ShaenTheBrain: Damn, DokA's gonna love it when he scans through tonight's archives later. (2010.11.15 - 01:10:51) Lone_Star: (2010.11.15 - 01:10:55) Electra: Right now I'm wondering what the holiday spectaculars are going to look like. (2010.11.15 - 01:11:29) ShaenTheBrain: The Halloween crossover got some pretty good reviews, Electra. (2010.11.15 - 01:12:03) Derp: will Claremont do a thanksgiving issue? (2010.11.15 - 01:12:39) Electra: It was pretty wild, I ended up picking up a dozen titles and still wasn't entirely sure what was going on. (2010.11.15 - 01:13:07) Electra: I know Dead Head got rebooted hard, at least. (2010.11.15 - 01:13:10) ShaenTheBrain: Well, the writer from Doktor Archeville was the driving force behind it, so you had to know going in that it was gonna be out there. (2010.11.15 - 01:13:45) Gizmo: And, shock, more angst for Wander. (2010.11.15 - 01:14:00) ShaenTheBrain: I'm really intrigued with the new direction he's taking Doktor Archeville in. The whole Jekyll-&-Hyde thing becoming literal. (2010.11.15 - 01:14:13) Electra: I just thought it was funny that they had to violence-censor the Young Freedom cover that month. (2010.11.15 - 01:14:25) ShaenTheBrain: I'm afraid that story might end with him killing off The Doktor, though, which would make me sad. (2010.11.15 - 01:14:35) Gizmo: I dunno, I always like the talking narration boxes. (2010.11.15 - 01:14:58) Electra: They won't kill off the Doktor, he's the linchpin to the whole setting. (2010.11.15 - 01:15:08) ShaenTheBrain: Yeah, but I always give props to a creative team that isn't afraid to shake up the status quo, but also doesn't do it just for its own sake. (2010.11.15 - 01:15:12) Gizmo: Ha, did you see the rainbows and puppies variant of that one, E? They're reprinting it in the trade. (2010.11.15 - 01:15:21) ShaenTheBrain: The new Doktor Archeville storyline feels a lot like Season 3 of Farscape to me. (2010.11.15 - 01:15:40) Electra: And I don't think it counted as new angst for Wander, it was character continuity. Well, except the part with Midnight, that was new. But romance is boring if it's easy. (2010.11.15 - 01:15:45) Gizmo: So he'll end up frozen and canceled? (2010.11.15 - 01:15:46) ShaenTheBrain: Like, "OK, we spent the last couple of years establishing a status quo, now it's time to turn it on its head, shake it, and see what falls out." (2010.11.15 - 01:15:56) ShaenTheBrain: I said S3, Gizmo, not S4. (2010.11.15 - 01:16:38) Gizmo: Yeah, only it's like the writers forgot that he's not supposed to be Arrowhawk or Avenger. Choosing the mission over the girl? Weeeak. (2010.11.15 - 01:16:52) Electra: I'm just waiting to see who the Hyde Doktor kills off to prove that Sh** Just Got Real. (2010.11.15 - 01:17:23) Gizmo: If he's so smart, he should have come up with a way to do both. That's just lazy writing. I bet I could have come up with something way better if I were writing it. (2010.11.15 - 01:17:23) ShaenTheBrain: Valkyrie, if we're lucky. I'm willing to make an exception and clear some space next to the icetrays for this one. (2010.11.15 - 01:17:43) Gizmo: Snap, Shaen! (2010.11.15 - 01:17:57) Electra: Eh, give him a break, he's like sixteen, and his grandfather was right there. Don't get all Internet Tough Comic Book Writer now. (2010.11.15 - 01:18:31) Electra: Midnight II is basically doomed. (2010.11.15 - 01:18:51) Electra: It's just a matter of time before Wander needs some more angst piled on. (2010.11.15 - 01:19:14) Gizmo: Ugh, so true. (2010.11.15 - 01:19:19) Derp: and to think, Valkyrie's writer did Colt (2010.11.15 - 01:19:20) ShaenTheBrain: I have to say, I'm really glad they retconned that first Midnight II miniseries so it's no longer canon. I like the reimagined series so much better. (2010.11.15 - 01:19:27) Electra: It's just lucky that the genders aren't reversed, or Midnight would already be popsicles. (2010.11.15 - 01:19:38) ShaenTheBrain: I don't think they even bothered collecting the first one into a TPB. (2010.11.15 - 01:20:01) Electra: I didn't even know there was a first one until I saw a mention of it on Scans Daily. Looked pretty weak. (2010.11.15 - 01:20:25) Derp: Colt was like Firefly the comic book (2010.11.15 - 01:20:31) ShaenTheBrain: Well, fortunately, the guy who created Jack of all Blades and the reimagined Midnight II series has taken over most of the writing on The Interceptors, Derp. (2010.11.15 - 01:20:34) Gizmo: Ha, yeah, I figured that when Young Freedom was doing their Other Worlds Tour storyline, the gender reversed world would already have a dead Midnight II. (2010.11.15 - 01:21:09) Electra: I thought it was clever that they had the gender reversed pair not be together. A good way to keep poor Midnight alive! (2010.11.15 - 01:21:12) ShaenTheBrain: But frankly, compared to other characters that writer created, like Valkyrie and Breakdown, Colt's a shining beacon of hope and good taste. (2010.11.15 - 01:21:28) Electra: I have a feeling that if there's a sequel issue, Midnight won't be as lucky. (2010.11.15 - 01:21:57) ShaenTheBrain: That writer's really energetic, but he just doesn't think things through. Which is why he's gotten into so much legal trouble with the FC Comics owners. (2010.11.15 - 01:22:32) ShaenTheBrain: To be fair, though, he was a driving force behind getting The Interceptors monthly title off the ground in the first place. (2010.11.15 - 01:22:35) Electra: I also wonder what was up with the writers, that male-Wander was so much hotter than female-Wander. (2010.11.15 - 01:23:12) Gizmo: Well, logically, he probably should have been sort of man-pretty, right? (2010.11.15 - 01:23:31) Gizmo: I mean, since Wander's kinda butch. (2010.11.15 - 01:23:41) Electra: Honestly, I think the artist on Young Freedom is just a lot better at drawing boys. (2010.11.15 - 01:23:45) ShaenTheBrain: They could've gone either way. Wander's kinda butch, so her "opposite" could have either been super-masculine, or sort of effeminate (or at least androgynous). (2010.11.15 - 01:23:48) Electra: Look at the entire cast! (2010.11.15 - 01:24:08) ShaenTheBrain: Oh, you can tell the artist on YF loves drawing pretty guys with no shirts. Obviously some serious Author Appeal there. (2010.11.15 - 01:24:09) Gizmo: Pfft, speaking of shirtless scenes, right? (2010.11.15 - 01:24:16) Gizmo: :ninja:'d (2010.11.15 - 01:24:32) ShaenTheBrain: She's the same one who took over on Avenger as of the wedding storyline. (2010.11.15 - 01:25:01) ShaenTheBrain: And you'll notice the number of shirtless scenes in that book skyrocketed after he married Phantom. She's obviously an Artist Avatar. (2010.11.15 - 01:25:07) Electra: Yeah, truly spoken. I mean, it's obvious Wander must be more attractive than she's drawn, with all the play she's gotten from the various guys despite her neuroses. Must be an artist thing. (2010.11.15 - 01:25:51) Gizmo: Ha, yeah, you notice how much better looking they draw her in the Midnight II book? Make up your mind, guys. (2010.11.15 - 01:26:25) ShaenTheBrain wonders if the Bombshell pin-up hanging next to his computer makes him a hypocrite (2010.11.15 - 01:26:49) Electra: Nah, but if you're wearing a Geckoman t-shirt, it is a little sad. (2010.11.15 - 01:27:04) ShaenTheBrain: IRONICALLY. I'm wearing it IRONICALLY. Yeah, that's it. (2010.11.15 - 01:27:06) Gizmo: I dunno, the whole 'sexually liberated immortal' trope is a little overplayed, but I like the message behind it. (2010.11.15 - 01:27:57) alderwitch: But she isn't sexually liberated! I mean she's hooked up with, what, Ace and Elena, in the same time that Ace has slept his way from shore to shore for A-listers? (2010.11.15 - 01:28:01) alderwitch: (and B and C...) (2010.11.15 - 01:28:03) Electra: She's not that sexually liberated. I still don't even know if she's bisexual or if she just loved Alexander Rhodes that much. (2010.11.15 - 01:28:12) Electra: It's romantic. (2010.11.15 - 01:28:14) Gizmo: Well, either way. (2010.11.15 - 01:28:21) ShaenTheBrain: I can't help it. She's like all the best parts of Selina Kyle, Felicia Hardy, and Emma Peel rolled together and baked at 350F until firm, then let sit for 10 minutes. (2010.11.15 - 01:28:38) Electra: That's sort of a creepy way to put it, Irony Boy. (2010.11.15 - 01:28:48) Derp: Kevin Smith Felicia Hardy? or before that? (2010.11.15 - 01:28:55) ShaenTheBrain: That analogy kinda got away from me. (2010.11.15 - 01:29:15) alderwitch: Speaking of which, I have to get Colt and I should probably get the Bombshell pic scanned, even if we're not *technically* on girl calendar yet (2010.11.15 - 01:29:29) Electra: More pictures! (2010.11.15 - 01:29:40) ShaenTheBrain: As far as I'm concerned, Kevin Smith made some great movies, and talked about doing comics, but decided to avoid it. Just like he ultimately passed on that crappy Bruce Willis buddy cop script the studio kept waving under his nose. (2010.11.15 - 01:30:28) Gizmo: It's a lot better than the way they keep trying to convince the readers that Jack of all Blades is a super suave ladies man without ever showing any of it. (2010.11.15 - 01:30:56) ShaenTheBrain: I mean, can you imagine what it would have been like if the guy behind Mall Rats had gotten to write superheroes? For all we know, he might've made Superman piss himself. (2010.11.15 - 01:31:07) Electra: Now if you want to talk about crafting a superwoman, I'm still not sure how I feel about the Miss Americana title. It's just so damn meta, I can't tell if they're laughing at me. (2010.11.15 - 01:31:38) ShaenTheBrain: I love Miss Americana. It manages to both parody and celebrate so many tropes simultaneously. (2010.11.15 - 01:31:52) ShaenTheBrain: You can just tell that the writer and artist are both having a lot of fun with it. (2010.11.15 - 01:32:14) Gizmo: When they showed the robot without the uniform, I wasn't really sure if she was supposed to like a Barbie doll or if they just decided to censor it at the last minute. (2010.11.15 - 01:32:55) Electra: I think they mentioned somewhere that it was intentional, mostly for the squick factor. (2010.11.15 - 01:32:56) ShaenTheBrain: I think it's supposed to be ambiguous, but I dunno, maybe there was just some disconnect between the writer and artist. (2010.11.15 - 01:33:20) ShaenTheBrain: Oh, really? I must have missed that interview. Was it on io9 or CBR? (2010.11.15 - 01:33:50) Gizmo: Well, that'd be encouraging, if it's true. (2010.11.15 - 01:33:53) Electra: It was in the middle of one of those wall-o-texts that the writer sometimes goes off on. I don't remember which issue. (2010.11.15 - 01:34:50) Electra: But it does seem kind of weird that the creator goes to so much trouble to make the robot lifelike and then just leaves it blank under the uniform. (2010.11.15 - 01:35:15) Gizmo: Well, you know they'll just 'forget' that part whenever it's convenient. (2010.11.15 - 01:35:21) ShaenTheBrain: Maybe deep down she's still holding out hope for an in-person relationship. (2010.11.15 - 01:35:33) Electra: Or it's saying something deep about her fear of sexuality. (2010.11.15 - 01:35:49) Electra: But you're probably right about the convenient forgettery, Giz. Sigh. (2010.11.15 - 01:35:52) ShaenTheBrain: I mean, the writer is pretty obviously making Gina more of a cautionary tale than a self-insert fantasy. Letting her actually have sex through the robot would defeat that purpose. (2010.11.15 - 01:36:08) Gizmo: Sure, but it'd sell books, Shaen. (2010.11.15 - 01:36:32) Electra: The robot will probably stay the way it is until another writer gets ahold of it, then watch out. (2010.11.15 - 01:36:38) ShaenTheBrain: Yeah, but if the readers want blatant pandering and borderline pornography, they can pick up an issue of Valkyrie. (2010.11.15 - 01:37:18) Gizmo: Hey, it's not like they don't love doubling up on character concepts. (2010.11.15 - 01:37:20) Electra: On the other hand, Miss Americana is drawn so much better. (2010.11.15 - 01:37:39) Electra: And with the... you know, celebrity baking thing. (2010.11.15 - 01:37:55) alderwitch: Okay so question (2010.11.15 - 01:38:00) ShaenTheBrain: (Or they could pick up that one Bombshell issue from Tomb of The Scarab. You know the one I'm talking about.) (2010.11.15 - 01:38:14) Gizmo: I mean, we get it, you're a grim, violent character who wears black. Yawn. (2010.11.15 - 01:38:22) ShaenTheBrain: (I'm still surprisd that one made it past the editors.) (2010.11.15 - 01:38:23) Electra isn't going to admit to having read that one ragged (2010.11.15 - 01:39:19) Gizmo: Ha, yeah, I've seen a ton of scans of that issue used as Live Journal icons. (2010.11.15 - 01:39:50) ShaenTheBrain: First time I read that one, I had to check to make sure it wasn't a creator-owned book by Alan Moore. (2010.11.15 - 01:40:05) Gizmo: And there is so much Scarab/Bombshell fanart on deviantART. (2010.11.15 - 01:40:25) Electra: I just don't think they were expecting that sort of thing in an issue of Scarab. I mean, it was basically unprecedented! (2010.11.15 - 01:40:47) ShaenTheBrain: Including a surprising amount of Alex Rhodes / Bombshell pics. And a not-at-all-surprising amount of crossdressed Bombshell-as-guy pics. (2010.11.15 - 01:40:52) Electra: The editor probably just waved it on by. (2010.11.15 - 01:41:14) Derp: Man DeviantArt blew up when she showed up (2010.11.15 - 01:41:22) ShaenTheBrain: Yeah, to be fair, it's not like the writer of ToTS has a lot of editorial oversight. He's in tight with the CEO, so he basically gets away with murder. (2010.11.15 - 01:41:26) Gizmo: Well, it's not like there's not Rule 63 stuff of all the Freedom City characters. (2010.11.15 - 01:41:42) Gizmo: That was like the whole point of 'Earth-XX'. (2010.11.15 - 01:41:45) Electra: Which rule is that? (2010.11.15 - 01:41:49) Fox: Well, you did say that the series wasn't putting out issues like it used to. Maybe it was an attention grab, to try to make sure interest was held for the upcoming release gaps. (2010.11.15 - 01:41:49) Electra: Ah (2010.11.15 - 01:42:19) ShaenTheBrain: Wow, Fox. That hadn't occurred to me. That's so cynical, I'm surprised I didn't say it. (2010.11.15 - 01:42:29) Gizmo: http://www.google.ca/images?hl=en&expIds=17259,26871,27404,27601,27607&xhr=t&q=rule+63&cp=5&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1203&bih=647 (2010.11.15 - 01:43:28) Fox likes how one of the first ten pictures is a cutely-drawn rendering of batman groping a female superman. (2010.11.15 - 01:44:15) Electra: Yeah, though given the artist, I'm really surprised we saw the XX cheerleading squad and not the football team. (2010.11.15 - 01:45:06) ShaenTheBrain: I dunno, did you see how lovingly she rendered Alex and Zack? (2010.11.15 - 01:45:18) Gizmo: Clearly they have some favourite characters. (2010.11.15 - 01:45:56) ShaenTheBrain: I didn't expect either one of them to be that ripped. (2010.11.15 - 01:46:09) Electra: Yeah, but it was still just concept art. (2010.11.15 - 01:46:18) Electra: They weren't even in the issue. (2010.11.15 - 01:47:04) ShaenTheBrain: I mean look at Psyche vs Psyche-XX. (2010.11.15 - 01:47:28) ShaenTheBrain: She is tiny. He is...not. (2010.11.15 - 01:47:50) Gizmo: I could have lived without seeing KC-XX. (2010.11.15 - 01:48:04) ShaenTheBrain: I dunno if big ol' beefcake is all she can draw, or just all she wants to draw. (2010.11.15 - 01:48:16) ShaenTheBrain: Heh. I was tickled by KC-XX. (2010.11.15 - 01:48:21) Electra: Who'd want to draw anything else? (2010.11.15 - 01:48:37) Fox: KC-XX certainly has her share of...'fanart'. (2010.11.15 - 01:48:52) Electra writes to the author to suggest a plague of shirt-eating moths (2010.11.15 - 01:48:53) ShaenTheBrain: The KC-XX/Fusion slash art haunts my nightmares. (2010.11.15 - 01:49:26) ShaenTheBrain: There is just nothing right about it. (2010.11.15 - 01:49:33) Fox: "Electra writes to the author to suggest a plague of shirt-eating moths" This would actually make a pretty hilarious plot. (2010.11.15 - 01:49:55) Electra: Yeah, back me up here! We'll start a letter campaign. (2010.11.15 - 01:49:57) Gizmo: Such a double standard! (2010.11.15 - 01:50:09) ShaenTheBrain: Hey, Electra didn't specify male shirts only. (2010.11.15 - 01:50:09) Fox: Heck, it'd make a great plot in just about any book. (2010.11.15 - 01:50:18) Gizmo: You know only the guys' shirts will get destroyed. (2010.11.15 - 01:50:25) Fox: A little fanservice, a lot of humor... (2010.11.15 - 01:50:42) ShaenTheBrain: But how can the moths tell the difference between shirts vs pants/skirts? (2010.11.15 - 01:50:56) Electra: They're sentient moth aliens! (2010.11.15 - 01:50:58) Gizmo: Magic, probably. (2010.11.15 - 01:51:05) Fox: Accidents, of course, may happen. (2010.11.15 - 01:51:17) ShaenTheBrain: And what about the characters who wear one-pieces, like Dynamo? (2010.11.15 - 01:51:33) Electra: Dynamo's not on that title, he just appeared for one issue. (2010.11.15 - 01:51:46) ShaenTheBrain: Oh, you just mean for the YF imprint. (2010.11.15 - 01:52:11) Electra: I'm not sure I want to see the Interceptors half naked. (2010.11.15 - 01:52:31) Fox: Well that's no fun. Ought to be one of those big city-wide event things the FC imprint likes to push out every couple of months. (2010.11.15 - 01:53:09) Gizmo: Pfft, Jack and Dynamo's costumes don't leave much to the imagination anyway. (2010.11.15 - 01:53:18) Electra: Do you really want to see the Interceptors half naked? Or Atlas after a moth eats his briefs? (2010.11.15 - 01:53:25) ShaenTheBrain: It's weird. You'd think after the Gruevasion fiasco, they'd be holding back on those. But after the recent editorial shakeups, they're pumping 'em out faster than ever. (2010.11.15 - 01:53:37) alderwitch: Eheheh.. (2010.11.15 - 01:53:44) Electra: Maybe they're trying to prove that the Grue mess was just a once-off. (2010.11.15 - 01:54:15) ShaenTheBrain: Wait, you don't wanna see Atlas after the moths eat his briefs? Weren't you just extolling the virtues of beefcake? Cake don't come no beefier. (2010.11.15 - 01:54:29) ShaenTheBrain: Or do you just prefer vanilla or chocolate to strawberry? (2010.11.15 - 01:54:40) Electra: Yeah, but some cakes are better with a little frosting. (2010.11.15 - 01:54:46) alderwitch: I really do have to get past July.... August is Atlas in a itty bitty speedo (2010.11.15 - 01:54:50) alderwitch: And that will be fun to draw (2010.11.15 - 01:55:08) ShaenTheBrain: More like Atlas in an ittier, bittier speedo. His outfit don't leave much to imagine either. (2010.11.15 - 01:55:31) alderwitch: This one leaves less. Not, you know, Elf-Fin less. But still less (2010.11.15 - 01:55:43) alderwitch: And if you don't get the reference, that's because I haven't sent you to that artist (2010.11.15 - 01:55:56) ShaenTheBrain: You have not. (2010.11.15 - 01:57:23) Electra: No linking porn in chat? (2010.11.15 - 01:57:31) ShaenTheBrain: Y'know, now that I think about it, I think that at least half those shirtless scenes in Avenger weren't shirtless in the script. The artist just gets ahold if it, then asks herself, "Does he really need to be wearing a shirt in this panel?" (2010.11.15 - 01:57:33) Gizmo likes to think that Jack's calender costume is what happens when everybody else goes first, and it comes down to December, and they bring out a regular pair of pants and Jack brings out the tailoring sword. (2010.11.15 - 01:58:35) alderwitch: That artist does like to push the boundry of Pg13 (2010.11.15 - 01:58:42) Fox: You know, I was about to ask, "Tailoring sword?" (2010.11.15 - 01:58:45) alderwitch: Look what happens when she writes on books (2010.11.15 - 01:58:54) Fox: And then I thought to myself, I thought, "Of COURSE he has a tailoring sword."
Fox Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 (23:00:32) ShaenTheBrain: Which is ironic, considering how much I HATE YOU ALL. (23:00:37) GranspearZX will settle for mind control. (23:00:49) Fox: Aww. We love you too, Shaen. <3 (23:00:53) ShaenTheBrain: Wes is flirting with Slick now? (23:00:57) Electra: (23:01:03) ShaenTheBrain: That guy cuts girls faster than barbers cut hair. (23:01:26) Electra: Miss Americana already had to melt him into a puddle of goo to get him to stop molesting her. (23:01:27) ShaenTheBrain: I hate you all. I just want you to have a good time and rules that make sense. (23:01:42) Sandman_XI: slick isnt the settle down type (23:01:43) Flare_Knight: Shaen, if you hated me you wouldn't deal with all my stupidity so calmly (23:01:47) Fox: (23:01:50) Electra: Now Doktor Archeville is considering leaving him that way because it didn't really slow Slick down. (23:01:54) Sandman_XI: at most there will be a short fling (23:02:09) ShaenTheBrain: DAMMIT, STOP SHOWERING ME WITH LOVE (23:02:12) GranspearZX: He could be luring you into a false sense of security, FK. (23:02:13) Fox: Oil-slicked bedsheets and broken hearts! (23:02:17) Flare_Knight: Slick ruins the prospects of every other character because he causes them to develop inferiority complexes (23:02:19) ShaenTheBrain: I feel like a Care Bears villain
Raveled Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 (22:47:34) Dr_Archeville: "Heya, ladies! Look ta yer man, now back ta me, now back ta yer man, now back to me! Sadly, he ain't me. But if he stopped usin' lady-scented embalmin' flud and switched ta Old Head, he could smell like me! Look down; back up. Where are ya? Yer on a funeral barge, with the zombie yer corpse could smell like! What's in yer hand? Back ta me. I have it. It's an urn with two tickets ta that thing ya love! Look again! The tickets are now coins! Anythin' is possible when yer corpse smell like Old Head an' not a lady. I'm on a pale horse." (22:47:49) Raveled: (22:47:51) Lone_Star: (22:47:52) Flare_Knight: lol Really, it's the "I'm on a pale horse" that sells it. Genius.
quotemyname Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Doc never ceases to amaze. Part of me thinks that he's been waiting for a reason to use that :P
N/A Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 (19:27:15) Limos: So I've been brainstorming another hero idea, you know about Gonzo journalism? Not just reporting the news, but being the news? I was thinking of making a Hunter S. Thompson expy who is a kind of Super Journalist. He made a set of super journalism equipment so he could expose corruption and secret societies, and really just get under the skin of everybody who is an enemy of the TRUTH. (19:34:05) ShaenTheBrain: "We had two bags of Daka crystals...75 pellets of Zoom...5 sheets of high-powered Max...a salt-shaker half-full of zombie powder...a whole multicolored galaxy of mad science devices and mystical artifacts...also a quart of ambrosia and a pint of raw orichalcum. Not that we needed all that for this adventure. But when you get locked into a serious superheroing habit, the tendency is to take it as far as you can." (19:35:19) Dr_Archeville: (19:35:23) Ecalsneerg: It's 106 light years to Zeklon V, we got a fullly charged fusion coil, half a crate of Daka Snax, it's dark in space, and we're wearing sun visors. Hit it. (19:35:33) ShaenTheBrain: "We can't stop here...this is SHADOW country." (19:35:58) Electra: On second thought, let's not go to Freedom City. It is a silly place. (19:36:14) ShaenTheBrain: "No point in mentioning these clones," I thought. "The poor bastard would be fighting them soon enough."
Fox Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 It's just not the same.... (09:32:01) ChatBot: Raveled logs into the Chat. (09:32:06) Raveled: Hrmph. (09:32:08) Raveled: No Ecal. (09:32:12) Raveled goes for cookies. (09:32:15) ChatBot: Raveled has set their status to Away (09:32:16) Sorus: I can be Ecal for you (09:32:20) Sorus puts on a dress. (09:32:26) Sandman_XI:  (09:32:30) Fox snerks.
Ecalsneerg Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 To be fair, maybe he's just spoken to me enough to realize I crossdress with alarming frequency.
quotemyname Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 To be fair, maybe he's just spoken to me enough to realize I crossdress with alarming frequency. You forgot to say, "No homo".
N/A Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 You forgot to say, "No homo". Yes. That's it. "Forgot."
Ecalsneerg Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Is it so wrong to enjoy the feel of lace on my skin?
N/A Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Is it so wrong to enjoy the feel of lace on my skin? If it's wrong, then who wants to be right?
quotemyname Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Is it so wrong to enjoy the feel of lace on my skin? "Pause! If ya say somethin' gay, ya gotta say, 'no homo,' so I know ya ain't gay."
Raveled Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 (23:37:49) Sorus: Also I totes love the picture inspiration for Willow. (23:37:51) Sorus: I suppose clementies is appro (23:38:04) Sorus: or whatever the crap. (those little suckers taste good) (23:38:26) Fox looks forward to taking that out of context. Toooo late.

He was El Presidente in Idiocracy! (2011.01.06 - 21:13:12) ShaenTheBrain: I'd vote for that guy! (2011.01.06 - 21:14:41) ShaenTheBrain: Besides, he's NOT the "first Old Spice guy." (2011.01.06 - 21:15:18) Sandman_XI: how could i forget bruce! (2011.01.06 - 21:15:27) ShaenTheBrain: How could you INDEED. SICK SICKPEOPLE (2011.01.06 - 21:17:47) Aoiroo: Right, posted on Character Edits with Etain's new minion and sword, and Sil's new car and mask, though the mask is a device so I used the points she earned last month to buy it. (2011.01.06 - 21:20:20) ShaenTheBrain: We're not sick, Sand. We're immature. (2011.01.06 - 21:20:28) AvengerAssembled: Penis! (2011.01.06 - 21:20:35) ShaenTheBrain: Heehee (21:21:44) ShaenTheBrain: Poor Aoiroo, the one sane adult on the playground! (21:22:56) ShaenTheBrain: Aoiroo's all "Come on, Guys, grow up" and we're all "Heehee, PENIS!" (21:24:21) Aoiroo: Did I say anything about that? (21:24:48) Aoiroo: I too busy laughing when I saw it. (21:25:08) ShaenTheBrain: Nah, I was just laughing at the juxtaposition of you trying to talk about serious game matters amidst all of our phallic fallacies. (21:25:53) Aoiroo: Heh, that's only really because it takes me a few seconds to post and you guys change subject so quickly. (21:27:55) ShaenTheBrain: We are a bunch of ferrets mainlining meth, aren't we? (21:28:30) Aoiroo: If that's a case, I'm a cat driftin in and out inbetween napping.

(15:53:44) Geez3r: Yeah puns are like a good dish, they have to be properly seasoned. (15:53:59) ShaenTheBrain: Save the puns for someone else, Guys. You're barking up the wrong tree. (15:54:04) AvengerAssembled: Why don't you daffo my dill? (15:54:15) Kavonde: First part of Round 1 is posted. Rav, you're up (15:54:16) Gizmo: What a bunch of saps... (15:58:20) Northstar: Well, if you don't pay attention, you'll end up mulch (15:58:39) ShaenTheBrain: No good backpetaling, Kav. (15:58:52) ShaenTheBrain: Now cut it out, you guys. Don't make me whip out my pistils. (15:59:03) Kavonde: Sorry, I think it stems from deep-rooted problems (15:59:22) ShaenTheBrain: OK, I guess Blueshift is next. (15:59:32) Geez3r: He's do it too. Shaen's not afraid to send someone to greener pastures. (15:59:36) Ecalsneerg: Kav, just shrub off their overly harsh words (15:59:36) ShaenTheBrain: No really, Guys, I can handle it. Don't all jump on it at once. (15:59:38) Geez3r: *He'll (15:59:59) Gizmo: They just don't want to soil your streak, Shaen. (16:00:06) Northstar: don't look back, or your stamen underground (16:00:45) ShaenTheBrain: Next one to make a plant pun is gonna be pushing up daisies, so help me... (16:01:01) Kavonde: Sorry, went AFK. Had to pack my D&D trunk. (16:01:06) Raveled: Kav, posted. (16:01:13) Gizmo: Stay out of the kitchen, or you're going to get ferned? (16:02:39) Ecalsneerg: Giz, lighten up on the rules and go back to being a fungi (16:03:00) Gizmo: When it comes to puns, I don't moss around, Ecal. (16:03:10) Flare_Knight: or he could prune the Edit Thread
N/A Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 (23:49:45) Fox: Mara's sorta the antithesis of intimidating. Her idea of interrogation is mostly shoving the bad guy into and out of her blank void of a dimensional pocket until she has the circumstance bonus to crack him. (23:49:59) Electra: ... huh. (23:50:11) Gizmo: Huh? (23:50:12) Sorus: Heh, her interrogation could be seen as kind (23:50:22) Electra wrenches her mind violently free of the gutter (23:50:22) ShaenTheBrain: Hey, nothing scares most people like isolation. (23:50:32) ShaenTheBrain: ...HAH! (23:50:35) Fox: .... (23:50:37) ShaenTheBrain: Took me a minute. (23:50:40) Gizmo: Snerk. (23:50:40) Fox: That...sounded less dirty in my head, I promise.
N/A Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 (21:57:06) AvengerAssembled: I don't know what you mean, Gizmo. (21:57:07) AvengerAssembled: (21:57:31) Gizmo: Dammit AA, don't make me agree with the winky face. You know my position on the winky face. (21:57:46) Gizmo: (I am not pro-winky face.) (21:58:02) AvengerAssembled: What do you meaaaaan, Giz (21:58:02) ShaenTheBrain: (The winkyface emoticon killed Gizmo's parents. He's spent his whole life training for the day when they meet again.) (22:00:12) ShaenTheBrain: (Gizmo traveled around the globe, mastering the knowledge of indie rock, Mac OS, and tight jeans that he would need to become the World's Greatest Detective.) (22:00:34) AvengerAssembled: But that means that is his archnemesis and thus he can never actually kill him off. (22:00:38) AvengerAssembled: He'll just return again and again! (22:01:34) ShaenTheBrain: (And you can read all about this in Gizmo: Year One, now available in trade paperback from the FC Comics Else-Ifs imprint.) (22:05:23) ShaenTheBrain: Emoticons are a cowardly and superstitious lot. (22:05:41) Gizmo: "I must become a creature of sarcasm!" (22:04:44) Gizmo: "Yes, Father... I shall become a :argh:"
N/A Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 (20:40:00) ShaenTheBrain: Conan The Barbarian is one of those movies that really stands the test of time. (20:45:59) ShaenTheBrain: "So, did Gizmo return the wayward daughter of Doktor Archeville to her home. And having no further concern, he and his companions sought adventure on the Internet. Many systems and settings did Gizmo play. Experience points and gold pieces were heaped upon his name, and, in time, he became a Game Master by his own hand...and this story shall also be told." (20:46:15) ShaenTheBrain: (You have to imagine that in Mako's voice for full effect.) (20:46:20) Gizmo: !!! (20:46:22) ShaenTheBrain: (Just, y'know, do your best.) (20:48:46) ShaenTheBrain: Doktor Archeville: "There comes a time, Gizmo, when the phlebotinum ceases to sparkle. When the unobtanium loses its luster. When the orbital laboratory becomes a prison, and all that is left is a father's love for his child." (20:49:05) Dr_Archeville: (20:50:39) ShaenTheBrain: (Why is Gizmo Conan? Because his username has two syllables.) (20:51:40) Gizmo: "ShaenTheBrain: The banned... the refs are pleased with you, they will watch the thread. Gizmo: Are they going to post? ShaenTheBrain: No. Gizmo: Well, then tell them to log out of chat." (20:53:40) ShaenTheBrain: "Fire and wind come from the sky, from the gods of the sky. But Gygax is your god, and he lives in the earth. Once, giants lived in the Earth, Gizmo. And in the darkness of chaos, they fooled Gygax, and they took from him the enigma of dice. Gygax was angered. And the earth shook. Fire and wind struck down these giants, and they threw their bodies into the waters, but in their rage, the gods forgot the secret of dice and left it on the battlefield. We who found it are just players. Not playtesters. Not developers. Just players. The secret of dice has always carried with it a mystery. You must learn their riddle, Gizmo. You must learn their discipline. For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not players, not gamestore clerks, not online reviews. But dice...dice, you can trust." (20:58:17) Dr_Archeville: "Hither came Gizmo, the Canadian, black-haired, bleary-eyed, iPod in hand, a snark, a hipster, a gamer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled tabs of the Herofactory under his Converse trainers." (21:01:15) Quinn: "I never saw a man roll dice as Gizmo rolled. He put his back to the wall, and before they overpowered him the dead men were strewn in heaps thigh-deep about him. But at last they dragged him down, a single crit against one." (21:05:09) Gizmo: "AvengerAssembled: Hao! Dai ye! We thread again! This is good, but what is best in life? quotemyname: The banhammer, difficult math, rulebooks at your wrist, and the breaks in your caps. AvengerAssembled: Wrong! Gizmo! What is best in life? Gizmo: To stab your enemies, see them punched before you, and to hear the lamentation of their villains. AvengerAssembled: That is good! That is good. "
N/A Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 (23:58:51) ShaenTheBrain: Where are you guys headed once AA's done with school? (00:00:27) Electra: Back to Illinois, most likely. Lots of universities, and my dad has been a lawyer and judge there for thirty years, so he's got contacts pretty much everywhere. Plus I can use my school's alumni network. (00:01:05) Electra: If we'd stayed put after I graduated law school, I'd have had a job on graduation day. (00:01:09) ShaenTheBrain: Be nice to get back to civilization again? (00:01:17) Electra: I like living here, it's a decent place, lots of good shopping, reasonably friendly people and low cost of living. But there aren't any jobs, and both our families are really far away. (00:05:52) Electra: We're not far south enough in Kentucky to be out of reach of civilization. We're on the air in Cincinnati, dude! (00:06:35) ShaenTheBrain: Oh cool. Do you guys get WKRP? (00:07:13) Electra: If it was real, we'd definitely get it. We're only ten miles south of the city. (00:07:47) ShaenTheBrain: IT'S REAL, DAMMIT! Don't take this away from me, too! I've lost too much already...sacrificed too much... (00:09:14) ShaenTheBrain: They invade our space, and we fall back. When you get older, you find that things start getting taken from you. And you don't start to notice until they're gone. A day may come when we forsake all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day! It is a far better thing I do now, then ever I have done before. They may take our lives, but they'll never take OUR FREEDOM! (00:08:42) Gizmo: Tch, now I'm too tired for anything, too. (00:09:27) ShaenTheBrain: might be a little tired, too (00:09:27) Electra: There have been several assignments of the WKRP callsign, but none of them in Cincinnati. (00:10:10) Electra: Though apparently the real DJ that Johnny Fever was based on worked at WSAI in Cincinnati. (00:10:11) Agent_A: We few, we happy few, we band of brothers? (00:10:11) Agent_A: Wait, no, wrong part of Britain. (00:10:13) ShaenTheBrain: Final lines from an inspiring speech...that douchebags will quote for months ON THEIR FACEBOOK PROFILES! (00:10:21) Electra: CHEER!
Gizmo Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 (17:20:16) Gizmo: February's inductees! (17:20:37) Griffalo: I love Arcturus, Gizmo. (17:23:27) Cubist: [ponders the Citizen portrait] Hmmm... maybe leave the Matrix fade-in effect *off* of his hands/arms? (17:23:37) Gizmo: Nope! (17:24:41) Cubist: [nods] Alright. (17:25:09) Electra: They all look good, though the positioning makes it looks like Mercury just stuck his hand in Sharl's leg. (17:26:35) Gizmo: Look, if the Tronik kid is going to stand right there with gams like that, what's Merc supposed to do? He's only demi-human! (17:26:17) Electra: :!: (17:26:45) Gizmo: If Sharl didn't like it he coula gone intangible, I'm just sayin'. (17:29:44) Electra: Why do you think Mercury ended up with nothing more than a handful of green light? (17:29:57) Gizmo: Oh, that's not light.
N/A Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 (19:25:21) AvengerAssembled: Lucius Cabot is a good evil lawyer NPC in-setting. There's a typo that calls him Luscious Cabot, but that's just the name he used while paying his way through law school. (19:25:57) Quinn: Eeeh...that's my second reason. Evil lawyers are always used, why not a good-guy lawyer? (19:29:58) AvengerAssembled: OK, I can't resist. Do a riff on The Adventure of the Norwood Builder: the lawyer gets this file full of information bequeathed to him by a recently-deceased supervillain who was one of his first clients. The thing is, said supervillain blames him for the plea-bargain that sent him to jail, and he made sure to leak that the lawyer had all that information to his fellow supercrooks before kacking. (19:30:49) Quinn: Cue a mad dash through the city with the heroes protecting him from all of these supercrooks appearing out of the woodwork? I like it! (19:31:31) Quinn: I shall name this lawyer...Burwood Nilder! (19:31:55) Fox: :| (19:32:04) Quinn goes to put the idea up in Campaign Discussion, see who's interested. (19:32:33) ChatBot: Quinn has been logged out (Kicked). (19:33:24) AvengerAssembled: Shaen! How could you...oh, right, he's not here. (19:33:24) ChatBot: ShaenTheBrain logs into the Chat. (19:32:15) AvengerAssembled: =O (19:32:23) AvengerAssembled: is killed (19:32:29) Gizmo: Oh snap! (19:32:40) Electra: You did a baaaad thing... (19:33:00) Electra: That was impressive timing. (19:33:09) AvengerAssembled ded (19:33:14) Gizmo: He has been summoned! (19:34:36) Electra: A fresh-killed chatter is the most effective sacrifice for summoning Shaen. (19:34:53) AvengerAssembled puts that one in the memory bank (19:34:57) ShaenTheBrain was in the same place he always is: (19:35:00) ShaenTheBrain Right behind you. (19:35:04) ShaenTheBrain Found you. (19:35:48) ChatBot: Quinn logs into the Chat. (19:36:13) Quinn: I get a subtle feeling someone disapproved of that name for the lawyer.
Geez3r Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 (21:19:33) Ecalsneerg: I mean, obviously getting disarmed will suck, but it should suck in an "awww" sense, not a crippling sense of uselessness (21:19:39) Raveled: Because I could justify putting a lot of things in Devices. Belt of Giant's Strength, Ring of Flight... (21:20:51) Gizmo: Just remember that the cooler Tony Stark's armor is, the more likely the GM is going to have him wake up in the middle of a bank robbery with a hangover and no idea where the armor went. (21:21:02) Raveled: (21:21:03) Geez3r: LOL (21:21:36) Raveled: "You wake up in the middle of the street, wearing just your *Roll roll roll* Chest piece. You hear gunfire across the street." (21:22:04) Gizmo: Your chest plate and nothing else.
Raveled Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 Oh, the conversations we have... (22:10:33) Gizmo: "(22:05:27) Electra: Some relationships, the guy is more likely to end up in the fridge." Trevor sez (22:10:41) Heritage: trying to download an archived version of Flash Player (22:10:51) AvengerAssembled: Immunity 1 (Environmental Cold) is only 1 pp out of his gadgets pool! (22:11:00) Electra: Trevor is asking for it, having five freaking kitchens in his own house! (22:11:12) Raveled: (22:11:16) Gizmo: And the fridges are bare, too! Plenty of space!
