Carces Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 The South Freedom Boardwalk is a crossroads of fate. The casinos buzz with activity as the rich suddenly become poor and the poor can become rich in the same instant. One right step is the step to fame, fortune, and happiness while one wrong step leads to an unmarked grave at the bottom of the South River. In such a place, emotions run high and, for better or ill, choices are made. In a place called "The Luxury", a self-proclaimed casino, hotel, and family attraction, the lights stay on well into the night. There is no noise to be heard outside the building, and the events inside remain a mystery to those who are not curious enough to open the door. At 3AM on the dot, the entire building is entrapped within a large, shining red dome. It transcends common sensibilities and conventional means of breaking through. Worse yet, it is growing at an alarming rate... By the morning, the police have been called in and superheroes are signaled. Only you can find the answers that will save Freedom City! Hello everyone! Carces here with a magical adventure! Have you ever watched Dr. Strange defeat a magical menace, thinking to yourself "I'll bet I could be a better sorcerer supreme!"? Do you ever spell your name backwards in order to trick all the fey that you owe money to? Have you ever played "I spy with my little eye" with Ios of the Eight Eyes and won? This is an adventure for your character! Magic abounds in Freedom City, and Freedom's finest will need all the wits, courage and power to save the city! But Carces, you might say, while having you GM an adventure has always been my life-long dream, I just don't have a character with a lick of magical skill! Don't be silly, anonymous voice! Your character has plenty to do with magic! Just listen to your heartbeat - it's every beat attuned to the mysterious magic we call life! But the vampire and robot characters don't have a Moving on! Like a coin, there are two sides to this adventure. If you'd like to play, please consider which of these you would prefer to participate in. Inside the Casino: It takes a certain kind of cleverness to break through the barrier as well as a certain kind of foolishness to tread on the established domain of one wielding such powerful magics! The inside of the bubble will have mysteries that need to be solved and the combat will not be as straightforward as your usual fight. There will be more opportunities for role-playing and out-of-combat skills and powers, but there will be less combat in general. Outside the Casino: Outside the Casino, strange things are happening too. Fortunately, they're strange things you can punch in the face! A faster paced adventure with a faster end, this is the place to be if you're looking for challenging combat and chances to show off your heroic bravado in the face of imminent danger. Please Note: While I have GMed before in a few tabletop settings, I am relatively new to this and have never done anything like this on a Play by Post board. This means I'll probably make a mistake or two. If that doesn't sound like something you're interested in, you have been warned! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. Also, please make sure to note your adventurous preference.
JohnStargazer Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Well, I'll be the first to sign up for the Outside the Casino portion of the adventure, then, since I have experience with you and now how awesome your campaigns tend to be.
trollthumper Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I'd be up with either bringing Nick Cimitiere in for the mystical angle on the inside, or Cannonade in for the "punch it in the face" angle on the outside.
Carces Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 I'd be up with either bringing Nick Cimitiere in for the mystical angle on the inside, or Cannonade in for the "punch it in the face" angle on the outside. For clarity, if there's room, would you use both characters in their respective roles? Or would you rather stick with one side of the adventure - whatever that might be?
trollthumper Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 If there's room, yeah. But if I'm overcrowding, then I'll stick with Nick on the inside -- he seems a better fit for the adventure, and has more mystic experience.
Heritage Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Grim could be very useful on the inside, assuming she can get in. Even the smallest hole open for a just a few seconds would suffice!
Raveled Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Wesley and Robin are in, as in inside the casino.
Aoiroo Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 Well Changeling(my character in the works) is probably more inclined, I could probably get Carrie into the casino. I sort of want to do that plot you had to retire because of lack of character earlier as well.
angrydurf Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I'm up for bringing Ouroboros in for the inside if there is still room.
Heritage Posted August 31, 2010 Posted August 31, 2010 I sort of want to do that plot you had to retire because of lack of character earlier as well. I just saw that thread idea in the archived threads area, and would love to do it, but Grim is PL14 :(
Carces Posted August 31, 2010 Author Posted August 31, 2010 Wesley and Robin are in, as in inside the casino. Which Wesley? Sandman's character? The casino is a pretty big place. I'll split the adventure if I have to and have a High PL/Low PL group. The absolute maximum people I'm having in a group is 6. I'd find 4 more ideal. As for the other mystery adventure... That particular adventure is the start of a whole campaign. This is a standalone adventure which may be recurring depending on whether people have fun or don't have fun. Rest assured, I'll be running it at some point. I'll discuss PLs and what is appropriate or not then.
Heritage Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 You can't use Gossamer? Well she's PL12, so she's lower level, but Grim is much better at investigation type stuff.
Ecalsneerg Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Grim is only PL12, despite what the sheet says, as she doesn't meet caps.
Carces Posted September 1, 2010 Author Posted September 1, 2010 There's an awful lot of people who are interested in solving magical mysteries! There are a great many lives relying on you to face the mystical dangers present. Remember: every piece of truth and knowledge you gain is a source of power that may be far greater than all the fireballs the world can offer. Be careful, though, for not everything is as it seems. We'll be breaking into groups soon. First, though, we should have a gathering to meet the whole crew who would brave the Mysteries Infinite. Let's start with a question, shall we? What kind of door can you not unlock?
Raveled Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 So is this for everyone? I was under the impression that one group was going to start inside the casino.
Carces Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 So is this for everyone? I was under the impression that one group was going to start inside the casino. For purposes of the story, no one starts inside the casino. The groups that want to do the adventure inside the casino will need to figure out how to break in first. Those staying outside can help, but will remain outside to deal with outdoor threats as they come. A starting meeting place allows for a quick warm up before things start getting serious. It'll also allow you to get a feel for what might be happening for when you break up into teams. I've decided it's more fitting that the players decide who's splitting up, when the time comes.
Supercape Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I know this is very late in the day, but it sounds great. If you have space, Supercape will be up for this on the "outside". If its overfull, no worries.
Carces Posted September 2, 2010 Author Posted September 2, 2010 Nope - not too late at all. Jump on in and remember to go to the "Outside thread" when the current one splits.
Carces Posted September 8, 2010 Author Posted September 8, 2010 This is to let people know who have not yet joined the thread: I'd like to try and push the thread forward, so as to not have it stall out. As such, I'm asking for team preferences in the ooc thread. Please post there at your earliest convenience. If you have decided that this adventure isn't your thing, this would be the best time to bow out. Feel free to post or send me a message if that's the case. No hard feelings! I know this isn't everyone's thing.
Carces Posted September 14, 2010 Author Posted September 14, 2010 Reposted from the Door OOC thread: New topics are up. If you are going inside the casino, please go to The Palace of Fortune. Please be sure to read the OOC thread, as there is an important message there. If you are staying outside the dome, please go to Under a Crimson Glow. If you're new and looking to enter the adventure or if you need to bow out, please post in the OOC thread of your choice. Have fun everyone!
