Dr Archeville Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 The $64,000 question: what ways, if any, could this assortment of brainiacs tell Miss Americana is a gynoid? Notice check to spot tiny seams, or ever-so-slight jerkiness to her movements? Specific super-sense? (Infravision? Ultra-Hearing? X-Ray Vision? Detect Metal?)
Electra Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Miss Americana is human to all normal senses unless she does something that would specifically reveal her nature as a robot (gets part of her knocked off, Gina gets thrown out of the driver's seat and the robot shuts down, etc. Since I was told that I could handwave her to look perfectly human, I don't think notice checks are appropriate in this case and it would only be plot-related reasons that would get her caught? X-Ray vision will reveal that she does not have human insides. Continuous use of infravision over a period of minutes will reveal that she has heat patterns that do not entirely match up with human norms. She is mostly made of plastics and polymer and weighs a normal amount for her height, her skin is normal human temperature. So if someone decides to look through her clothes or stare at her heat signature for a few minutes (when they could be staring at her body instead!) they would make her. But she's designed, IC and OOC, to not be easily detected nor to invite suspicion.
Dr Archeville Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 Cool, just wanted to get the 'ground rules' on her established.
tryrar Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 I would point out that mass and weight, while similar, are not entirely the same thing, so Dyne's mass sense might pick up the fact that her mass is off for a woman of her size and weight. Though that's a GM call
Supercape Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Interestingly Supercape has almost exactly the same supersense: Mass awareness (I presume Dyne's is mental too?)
Dr Archeville Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 (2010.10.06 - 12:56:00) Electra: My take on it is that if there is nothing I could buy to prevent people from seeing through her, then people shouldn't be able to make her as a matter of course. There is something she could get, depending on how perfect you wanted her disguise to be. Just as Detect Metahuman could detect that the human-looking Captain Thunder and Johny Rocket and the Atom family are all Metahumans, something like Detect Technology (or something specifically geared to her) should be able to detect that the human-looking Miss Americana is a gynoid. If you wanted her to be undetectable even to that, then I'd suggest taking some type Concealment. Director Horatio "Harry" Powers of AEGIS and Blackstone's Warden Joshua Drummer have something similar, a Permanent Close Range Concealment that hides them from Detect Metahumans/Metahuman Awareness senses. If not, then just saying "she looks human" (and not having a "looks freaky" Complication) is enough. ... though this gets to the matter of "in a room full of super-geniuses, are any of them going to be scanning each other's tech?"
tryrar Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 heh, that's probably a yes. After all, they'd want to see how the other guy's stuff works, right?
Dr Archeville Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 Perhaps the Doktor would set up a 'privacy screen,' blocking certain types of scans? Not all radio, though, since that'd block Gina's ability to pilot Miss Americana.
Dr Archeville Posted October 6, 2010 Author Posted October 6, 2010 Please note that it is 10:00am Sunday morning and we're in a (decent sized) private reading room of a public library There's maybe one caterer per PC here. And a roughly equal number of NPC scientists and techies (though they're mainly in the background and not saying much but oohing and oohing over the braininess of the PCs)
Supercape Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Just to clarify, Supercape has turned up in a Dinner Jacket because he is has no sense of style and is a bit of a ignoramus socially. (EDIT his high WIS and above average CHA mean that despite these flaws, he is actually likeable and charming, and "gets" people. Just not fashion and culture. )

I've edited my initial post to reflect that fact that V is no longer wearing a night time getup.
Fox Posted October 6, 2010 Posted October 6, 2010 Yes, Dragonfly is totally attempting to formulate a Master Plan for social interaction. (Social!) Master Plan roll (DC10) (1d20 + 6=9) (Social!) Master Plan Reroll (DC10) (1d20 + 6=7) ..d.sagaglkgjagsagh :argh: 1 on the reroll becomes 11, plus 6 is 17. +2 bonus when she's done studying. I hate you, dice. We can no longer be friends.
Dr Archeville Posted October 7, 2010 Author Posted October 7, 2010 Oh, and for the record, Dok is rocking his Enhanced Charisma during this thing. 8-)
JackgarPrime Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Oh by the way, if anyone needs the stats or bio for Dr. Volk, they're on page 52 of Agents of Freedom. Basically, she's wicked smart with a whole bunch of Knowledge and Craft skills.
Dr Archeville Posted October 7, 2010 Author Posted October 7, 2010 Hunh, they gave her ranks in a skill (Research) that doesn't exist in M&M (but it does exist in D20 Modern). KENNNSON!!! :argh:
JackgarPrime Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 Hunh, they gave her ranks in a skill (Research) that doesn't exist in M&M (but it does exist in D20 Modern). KENNNSON!!! Clearly she's SO good at Researching things that she can actually break the game's rules with it!
Dr Archeville Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Youngest-looking, probably, what with her being all scrunched up in herself, and a tad on the malnourished side. Unless you want Evil!Dok to realize his mistake by studying her closely...
tryrar Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 Since Cape is on vacation for a week, I need someone to politely interrupt my conversation with Professor Quill, so I'm not stuck talking to him until Cape gets back(Dyne doesn't like being rude, otherwise I'd do it myself)
Dr Archeville Posted October 12, 2010 Author Posted October 12, 2010 No, Dok did not mean to snub anyone; I will be editing my last post.
quotemyname Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Is that late night that John had preventing him from noticing Vivian? Or is he trying to ignore her She is standing next to Estelle, after all.
Ecalsneerg Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Is that late night that John had preventing him from noticing Vivian? Or is he trying to ignore her She is standing next to Estelle, after all. I was not aware of that. (And it'd need to be a -31 circumstance penalty for Arrowhawk to fail to notice anyone standing in plain sight )
