Sammy smiled as he looked up and down the Boardwalk, examinig the varioud casinos and gambling establishments in sight. He knew that like most other cities, the best way to get noticed by the mob was to make your presence known in thier most lucrative area -- the casinos.

Four the larger establishments catch his eye.

The Atlantis with its aquatic theme seemed nice. Near the South River which gave it one of the better views. Sammy marked it as a possible source to test the waters.

The Golden Calf with its blazen golden decore. Sammy frowned and quickly placed it on the lower end of his list. He loved gold just as much as anyone else, but for some reason, gold just seemed to get in his way. Best to pick a location where he wouldn't be trapped if the need arose for a quick getaway.

The Paradise with its attempt to be something that in all reality it wasn't. A lot of families trying to get away to a tropical world without having to pay the price would be a nice location to keep his simpler skills honed, but Sammy was looking for a bigger fish to fry today.

The Southside Palace with its old style look, reminded Sammy of his days in Chicago. The place looked like it had money written all over it but of course, that wasn't proof that it was what he was looking for.

Sammy rubbed his chin in thought. 'Perhaps one of the smaller casinos would be a better place to start?' Sammy looked down teh street noticing the poor shape the entrance to a casino called the Lucky Sevens was in. 'Wonder what happened there. It looks like a tornado had decided to blow through. Obviously not the place for me. I had best check the word on the street for the casino with the biggest ties to the Mob.'

Sammy began moving up and down the boardwalk, talking to various people about the different casinos, looking for the one that would put his foot in the door to Freedom City's underworld.

Sammy smiled as he learned more about the going ons along Boardwalk.

It seemed that there were a number of supers working the streets, making sure that the area was under control. Foreshadow, a man that seemed to always be right were a guy didn't want him to be. Sammy wonder what to do if the guy showed up when he was dealing with a bank? 'Ah well, Lady fortune would deal with the situation if it happened.'

The other hero he needed to worry about was some guy named Nightrival. It seemed he mixed it up with the man that tried to rob the Lucky Seven casino. Another person to keep an eye out for.

'So those are some of the people in the area. I'll just need to keep my eye out for them in my dealings,' Sammy thought as he again surveyed the various casinos. Again he looked at them and smiled as he made his decision. 'I think it's time the Atlantis casino suffer a little leakage!'

Sammy laughed out loud as he moved to the casino while rubbing his hands in anticipation.

"And it's a hard eight. He's a winner again," said the stickman as he collected the dice for inspection again.

Sammy smiled as he watched the chips come his way. He hadn't lost a bet yet and most of his bets were of the big payoffs. He had made sure that he rolled only two of three times to keep suspicion off of him but his continued winning streak was drawing quite a crowd. Sammy decided to let the next bet pass him by as he looked about the large casino floor.

Standing over by the slot machines, trying not to be obvious staring, was one of the standard issue security guards. Sammy knew their kind and wasn't too worried about him. He was more worried about the reall security in a place like this. The ones that were dressed like other players were the guys that caught people like Sammy.

Sammy turned his head and smiled slightly as his eyes landed on a young man at the Blackjack table just opposite of the craps table. The guy was fairly plain but he had sat down right after Sammy won his fourth bet in a row. The guys stack of chips never really changed in height and he seemed to be more interested in the area around him than his cards. Defiantely one of the hidden security guys.

"Sir? Are you going to bet?" came the voice of the stickman while looking at Sammy. Sammy blinked and turned his focus on the game again.

"Sure. I'll bet one last time. Almost time for me to get going," he said as he looked down at his chips. He had gathered almost thousand dollars in his short time playing. He slowly and deliberately moved it all over to the biggest pay off possible, Aces or Boxcars, a 30 to 1 pay out.

The stickman looked at the bet still holding the dice in his hands. "Sir, I unable to let a bet of that size pass without instructions from the manager. If you would kindly wait a moment," he said as he made a gesture over his head.

Sammy turned and saw the floor manage approach the craps table. He talked with the stickman for a moment before looking over at Sammy who smiled. The manager nodded his head but took the dice from the stickman.

"New dice, and the bet is acceptable. Do you wish to throw?"

Sammy continued to smile at the manager but shook his head. "Naw, I don't want you guys to think I was cheating or something. Let someone else roll. Your choice."

The small crowd of people gasped slightly at the bold statement. Every person that came to the casino knew never to leave the thrower in the descretion of the house. Here in Boardwalk, there was a good chance that they'd pick one of their fixed shooters to do the roll. If that happened, you were guarenteed to lose your money.

The manager nodded his head and looked at the people around the table. "You sir, will do nicely," he said as he handed the dice to the young man from the Blackjack table. While waiting for the manager to approach, he had left his table and joined teh crowd of people.

'So, they're going to try and stiff me, eh?' Sammy thought, his smile never leaving his face. He took a moment to check the area again for the exits and the nearness of other "hidden" security. A small ring was slowly being formed around Sammy and still he didn't think much about it. "Let him roll. I've got no objections."

The young man took the dice and rolled them onto the table. They tumbled to the edge and began to bounce back. Sammy could feel the air around him charged with the energy that he could control. One of the dice rolled on a small snag on the velvet cover of the table, the small imperfection was just large enough to spin the die into its counterpart. The collision made the first die land face up on one. The added momentum caused the second die to do two more flips before coming to a rest on a one. Snake eyes for most people, but for Sammy, it was a the big payoff.

"I think you owe me thirty large ones," Sammy said without looking away from the manager.

The crowd around the table erupted into wild cheers for the daring win.

Not too far Sammy, Dorian sat at the Black Jack table with his own large stack of chips, but unlike Sammy he hadn't won them but had bought them.

"Twenty-one sir," Said the dealer. "The house wins." Of course thought Dorian. had the money meant anything he might have been pissed. He leaned further back into the plush leather.

"Hey Dorian whats going on over there?" Asked a feminine voice beside him. Dorian glanced at Stacy, her deceptively innocent eyes were focused on a scene behind their dealer, where it looked like a small crowd was gathering. Dorian took a sip of his Whiskey on rocks.

"Looks like someone is winning big." He said. He put his arm around Stacy, she flashed him her award winning smile; beautiful blond tresses and sparkling blue eyes, if he had a heart it would melt. "I thought you were supposed to be my good luck charm. Are you broken?" Dorian teased. Her smile changed quickly to a scowl. He wondered how many men had fallen victim to that one. I guess I did too in a way. He turned to the dealer.

"Alright you cheating snake, lets go again." Dorian said only half jokingly. He held his drink up and one of his bodyguards took it to go get a fresh one. as they played Dorian noticed the crowd around the craps table getting larger. He found himself intrigued. When he saw the manager approaching. Dorian figured out that someone's luck was a little too good. He turned back to Stacy. "Play this one for me babe, I'll be back."

He sauntered over to the Craps table to get a look at the high roller. His mouth turned in distaste when he saw the man. He certainly didn't look the part. Which meant he was incredibly bold or simply stupid.

"Naw, I don't want you guys to think I was cheating or something. Let someone else roll. Your choice." The man said with clear confidence. Dorian smiled. A fool then. Dorian waited for the Casino to take back their money. He watched in amazement as the dice bounced around and landed, snake eyes. Now that is quite a talent.

Dorian moved around to the man as he saw the floor manager's face darken when the stranger asked for his money. He imagined that he would be taken into a back room and beaten within an inch of his life. Dorian reached the man's shoulder and clapped his hand on his shoulder.

"Just a moment sir," Dorian said in mock earnest. "That was quite a spectacular win. Why don't you celebrate a moment. I have some fine Whiskey back at my table." He turned to the Floor manager. "I'll cover the sum of his bet until he returns to collect." He turns back the the man awaiting his answer.

Sammy looked up at the finely dressed man standing over his shoulder. The guy didn't seem like one of the planted ssecurity guys in the casino, but this was a new town. They could do things like that, but Sammy mentally shrugged. Lady fortune wouldn't play him like that. 'What the heck, I've got nothing to lose.'

Sammy smiled up at Dorian. "Sure. Why not? It's going to be a while for them to get my money together so I might as well enjoy a nice drink." Dorian hear the smooth words come out and knew that this was someone that knew how to lie.

As Sammy stood, it gave Dorian a chance to get a better look at the man. Sammy stood about 5'10" with a very plain looka bout him. He wasn't fat but there really wasn't much muscle on him either. His clothes were fairly basic, jeans and a decent shirt, but nothing name brand. In fact, the small black backpack by his side gave Dorian the impreson that he had just arrived in the city.

Sammy held out his hand in greeting. "Name's Sammy. Sammy Cosentino. Nice to meet you," he said, never letting his smile fade from his face. Sammy looke Dorian up and down trying to size up the man, but he didn't have the aura of someone in the business. 'Wonder what his interest in me is?'

Dorian took his hand with an easy grace, though inwardly he cringed to think where this man's hands might have been. "Dorian," he replied in turn. "Dorian Magnus. Come take a seat while they get your money prepared."

The two men head back to Dorian's table. He dismisses the dealer and asks Sammy to sit down. "Sammy this is Stacy, Stacy Sammy." Stacy reaches her hand across the table.

"Hi Sammy nice to meet you." She flashes her smile again. One of his guards move to frisk Sammy but Dorian interrupts.

"Please Andrew, not right now." Dorian said. He turned to Sammy. "So what do you drink." After hearing his request Dorian sends a guard to get it. HE takes a long drink and watches Sammy over the rim of his glass.

"Quite a trick you pulled back there. Might I ask how you did it?" Dorian says.

'Dorian....Dorian Magnus,' Sammy thought to himself, trying to remember where he had heard the name before. The sight of Stacy, causes Sammy to lose his traing of thought for a moment.

"I'll have a long island," Sammy says as he starts to get the impression that something strange is going on here. He notes the guards and he frowns slightly, wondering what Dorian wanted with him.

It isn't until the question comes out in the open, that Sammy knows he's in trouble. "Uh, trick? What trick would you be refering to, Mr. Magnus." Sammy's eyes shift from side to side. already looking to see how to escape the present situation. Something about the very rich man unnerved him greatly.

'Rich man......Dorian Magnus....' Sammy's eyes widen as he realized finally where he heard the name before. He had read about Dorian Magnus, the driving force behind Vulcan Technologies. Sammy's nervousness disappeared as he realized just who he was talking to. "Are you the Dorian Magnus of Vulcan Technologies?"

Dorian doesn't buy it, he raises an eyebrow quizzically. "Of course," he says. "How rude of me, the pros never reveal their secrets." Dorian Leaned back into his chair. His guard brought Sammy his drink.

"Ahh you've heard of me then," Dorian seems pleased. "Glad to know my PR department is doing something right."

"I ask because I am trying to decide if your a genius or a fool." Dorian said. "How you managed to pull it off with everyone watching is rather genius." He holds his hand up to ward off any pleas of innocence. "But you would have to be a fool to think that they plan to let you leave on anything but a stretcher."

"I don't believe in luck, Sammy. Only preparation and skill. Luck, is like a beautiful woman." As he said this Dorian put his hand on Stacy's cheek. "Not difficult to find when everything is going your way." She took a sip of her drink while watching him. "But it just up and vanishes the moment you are down." Stacy frown as see tried to figure out if he was still talking metaphorically or not.

"What about you Sammy?" Dorian asked.

Sammy took his time in answering. His mind raced with a variety of thoughts.

'This guy is getting a little too close for comfort. I wanted attention from the mob, not some well to do industruial bigwig! How am I going to get out of this?' Sammy picked up his drink, and used it to cover his search around the casino for a way out of the present situation. Failing to hide his growing unease, Sammy lowered his glass and looked directly at Dorian.

"I am no fool, Mr. Magnus, just new to town. It's always good to let the competition know you're in town before you start working," Sammy says as he unconciously places his hand on the black backpack by his side. the gesture was easily seen by Dorian. "You of all people understand, don't you? As for luck, well Lady Fortune has always been on my side. Oh, I agree about skill and preparation being important, but for me, Mr. Magnus, Lady Fortune is always on my side. She brought me to you, didn't she?"

Sammy smiled as he saw the Manager set up his money over by the craps table. "It seems that they have my money ready, Mr. Magnus," he says as he finishes off the drink in one gulp. "I had better pick up my money and move on before they get the idea that they can short change me."

Sammy stood and picked up his bag. "I'll let you in on a little secret, Mr. Magnus," Sammy says as he leans in to speak quietly into the man's ear. "For them to put me on a strecther, they'd have to first be able to catch a ghost." Sammy pulled back, his smile back in place. He bowed to the woman by Dorian and then to the bodyguard before moving to the craps table.
