Sammy took his time in answering. His mind raced with a variety of thoughts.

'This guy is getting a little too close for comfort. I wanted attention from the mob, not some well to do industruial bigwig! How am I going to get out of this?' Sammy picked up his drink, and used it to cover his search around the casino for a way out of the present situation. Failing to hide his growing unease, Sammy lowered his glass and looked directly at Dorian.

"I am no fool, Mr. Magnus, just new to town. It's always good to let the competition know you're in town before you start working," Sammy says as he unconciously places his hand on the black backpack by his side. the gesture was easily seen by Dorian. "You of all people understand, don't you? As for luck, well Lady Fortune has always been on my side. Oh, I agree about skill and preparation being important, but for me, Mr. Magnus, Lady Fortune is always on my side. She brought me to you, didn't she?"

Sammy smiled as he saw the Manager set up his money over by the craps table. "It seems that they have my money ready, Mr. Magnus," he says as he finishes off the drink in one gulp. "I had better pick up my money and move on before they get the idea that they can short change me."

Sammy stood and picked up his bag. "I'll let you in on a little secret, Mr. Magnus," Sammy says as he leans in to speak quietly into the man's ear. "For them to put me on a strecther, they'd have to first be able to catch a ghost." Sammy pulled back, his smile back in place. He bowed to the woman by Dorian and then to the bodyguard before moving to the craps table.

Dorian took another sip of his drink. A ghost huh? Quite some stones on that one. Dorian decided he had to see this. The problem with being a ghost, is that they were already dead.

Sammy reached the Craps table and placed his black bag on the table. He opened it wide to put his money inside. He smiled as he saw the Manager take a look inside of the bag. Even from Dorian's position, he could see the inside of the bag just as clearly as the manager. Perhaps Sammy had position the bag just so to offer the information.

Inside the bag are what appears to be tools. Screwdrivers, pliers, and a few items that are used to deal with electonic equipment but nothing that could be used to affect the dice rolls. Each item in the bag is strapped to the edges to prevent them from moving about inside and leaving the main space free for other items.

Sammy begins to picks up the money and fills that empty space in the bag, but his head does turn from side to side looking for the guards. Dorain turns slightly and sees two men move carefully towards the main entrance. The men are not dressed as bouncers, but their muscualr build and empty hands put them out of place. Two more men, this time dressed as bouncers, move over by the slot machines. Their position placed them directly on an easy intercept course for Sammy if he heads for the main entrance.

Finished with loading his bag, Sammy zipped up the bag and put it on his back. Sammy walked slowly but surely towards the main entrance. As he entered the slot machine area, the two bouncers began moving towards Sammy. Sammy stopped at a slot machine and picked up a coin on the ground. He put the coin in the machine, pulled the handle and continued toward the main entrance while the two bouncers were coming up behind with only three machines between them.

Suddenly, the machine blurted out in a loud ringing indicating a jackpot. Coins began to spill out of the unmanned machine unto the floor. The loud bells and whistles drew the attention of nearby people who quickly dashed for the fallen horde of money. It wasn't long before a mob of people had formed as a buffer between Sammy and the following bodyguards. Sammy looked back at the guards and smiled. One of the guards was suddenly hit from the side by a woman in a rush to get her share of the fallen coins, toppling the bouncer into a nearby slot machine. The blow was strong enough to knock the man ssenseless. That same machine wass knocked off balanced and tipped over into a roulette table. The force of the impact sent the roulette wheel flying free from the table only to hit the remaining guard in the head. He crumpled like a fallen log. Only when the two men were down did Sammy turn back towards the entrance.

Sammy was still far from the two men guarding the door but he had obviously noted their presence. One of the men had unfortunately placed himself slightly too close to the door. From behind, the door opened by a sudden gust of wind, knocking the man off balance. He stumbled slightly before slipping on the roullette ball that had sailed to the entrance area. The guard hit the ground with a hard thud, the blow taking him out of the equation.

Only one man stood before Sammy and freedom. Suddenly, the guard swatted his neck. He looked at his palm for a second before he began to wheeze. His face quickly turned red and he reached inside his jacket. The man removed a needle but succumbed to his condition. He dropped to the ground unconcious.

Sammy stooped down and picked up the needle when he reached the man. He quickly injected the man before walking out of the door and freedom. The whole affair took less than a few moments but the chaos that had ensued was more than enough to make sure that Sammy would be long gone before anything could be done.

Dorian watched in shock as it seemed pandemonium exploded in the casino. One minute Sammy seemed to be walkign into a assured beating the next, he was strolling out the door. He felt Stacy's fingers digging into his arm.

"Oh my God Dorian, what in the world was that?" She asked. Dorain stared at Sammy's dissapearing back.

"I don't really know." I guess having lots of luck is a skill in itself. He picked up his cell phone and dialed one of his men in the limo. "Jason, there is a man walking out the front of the Casino. Give him my card and tell him if he wants to make triple what he did today give me a call sometime." Dorian clicked the phone shut. Then he turned to Andrew. "I think I need another drink."

Outside, Jason got his call from Dorian and reported that he would do the job. He got out of the limo and started looking around. Just a short distance from the casino was a man that fit the description that Dorian had gave him. He quickly jogged over, calling out. "Excuse me. Excuse me."

Sammy turned at the voice. He hadn't expected things to settle down so quickly after exiting the casino but Lady Fortune always liked to have fun. Sammy frowned as he let the man reach him. 'Who is this clown? He's security in that get-up.' "Yes?" Sammy asked, watching the man closely.

"Excuse, sir, but my boss, Mr. Magnus has asked me to give you this card and a message," Jason said as he proceeded to produce the business card.

Sammy slowly took the card, looking at it carefully. Written on it was clearly Dorian's name and telephone number. "Okay, so what's the message," Sammy asked as he placed the card into his pocket.

"Mr. Magnus says if you wish to make triple of what you just did today that you should give this number a call."

Sammy couldn't contain his surprise at the offer. 'Tripple? For what? This guy's got to have a lot of money to burn if he's willing to offer that kind of cash.' Sammy thought about things for a moment. 'First, Dorian Magnus was in the casino and not even in the high roller's area to begin with. Second, Dorian was just happened to be in a position to see me win big. Third, he obviously saw how I left the place. Is Lady Fortune telling me something? Is this another one of her ways of helping me out here in Freedom?'

Sammy began to smile. "Tell your boss that I'll be sure to make the call in a few days after I've gotten a place. I'm interested in hearing more of his offer. Very interested."

Sammy turned and continued on his way. As he walked, Sammy whistled an old show tune. Jason watched for a while longer before picking up his cel and calling Dorian Magnus.

"Sir, this is Jason. I was able to give him the card and he says he'll make contact in a few days after he's found a place to live."

Now with money in his bag, Sammy looked upon the streets of the Boardwalk in a new light. 'Ah, I've got money now and met a very interesting person. Next step is to find a place to stay. This area does seem to have its appeal.'

Again, Sammy asked some of the more shady people of the street and learned the name of a very interesting person. 'So, Lenny is the guy to talk to in this part of town. I drop my name with him and I'm bound to find work fairly quickly. I'll have to keep my eyes open for him.'

Sammy walked east along the boardwalk looking for housing he could rent. A small house would work better than an apartment, but Sammy really didn't care which it was. He didn't plan on living there for very long to begin with. 'Once I get the lay of the land, I'll find something more worthy of a man of many talents.' As he walked, Sammy fingered Dorian's card in his pocket. His footsteps takes him pass the Southside Palace and away from all of the glitter of the Boardwalk.

Even the Boardwalk held a residential area and this was no exception. Most of the housing in the area were apartment flats that ranged in style and upkeep. Sammy frowned at the more ritzy locations, not feeling a connection to them. He was in no mood to deal with the run down places where he would have to watch his back from his neighbors either.

'Now this looks promising!' Sammy said as he saw the sign for an apartment in front of a brownstone building. It was in fairly good upkeep and only about thirty minutes walking distance east of the Southside Palace Casino. Sammy walked up to the building and his smile widen as he read the name of the housing development, The Platinum Palace. It had a certain appeal to the newcomer and he walked inside sure that Lady Fortune had smiled upon him.

The Platinum Palace turned out ot be exactly what Sammy was looking for. It was cozy and the room he was able to rent was on the tenth floor. There were four more floors above his but Sammy wasn't worried about that.

'Don't these people know that you never want to have your place on the top floor? It's the easiest way for a crook to break in!' Sammy thought as he opened the door to his own apartment. The irony wasn't lost on Sammy as he was just the crook that occasionally used roof side entrances. Of course, with his own special blend of abilities, he rarely needed to use them.

Sammy stood at the dooryway, examining his new home. "And again, Lady Fortune has smiled upon her favorite follower." Sammy entered and closed the door behind him.

The room was fully furnished, giving Sammy less to worry about. He placed his black backpack with the money still inside onto a chair. Sammy walked around the room, examining every part, checking for the best place to use as an exit.

'Hmmm,' he thought as he felt the walls in the bedroom. 'I wonder who lives on the either side of me? I should introduce myself.' Sammy smiled as he left the room to meet his neighbors.

Sammy hung up the phone and frowned. He hated waiting for work but he understood the importance of keeping a buffer between the employer and the employee. "Deniability. The way to do business," Sammy said as he stood up.

'So, three days before I get more news about the job. Sounds like that's plenty of time for me to get to know the city.'

Sammy turned on his television and flipped through the various channels looking for something worth his attention.

There was an announcement that the Circus was in town. Sammy quickly turned the channel as he wasn't very interested in clowns. He wanted something to make his presence known in the city.

A special bulletin came on about a supervillian causing a ruckus over a bridge. Sammy watched for a short time before again changing the channel. 'Man that guy is flashy. I hope he gets away.'

It wasn't until he changed the channel again did Sammy find something worth his interest.

'Now, that's what I'm talking about! I think that would make a find addition to my collection!' Sammy turned off the television and moved to his desk. It was time to do some research.

Sammy leaned back in his chair and rubbed his eyes. He had spent way to much time going over the information he gathered on the museum. Since the recent repairs of the damage to the entrance, the museum had increased security.

'Great. Some amateur wrecks the entrance, calls forth a couple of tights and now the museum is under heavier guard than it really should be. It's going to take more than me to get those diamonds!'

Sammy looked down at the avertisement for the Aurora Diamond collection. The collection was coming to Freedom City and was going to be on display at the Hunter Museum of Natural History in a few weeks. From what he had already learned through his walk through of the museum, the basic security measures were easy to bypass. It was the increase of human guards as well as the high alert of the various superheroes in town. Any of those would test his luck in a way he really didn't want to deal with.

'I'll need help to get those diamonds, but where to find people to work with? I'll need special help just in case supers show up.' Sammy put down the leaflet and looked over at a small plain white envelop. He picked it up as a thought ran through his head. 'Perhaps at this Arena place, I can meet someone who is willing to help me out.'

With the invitation in hand, Sammy picked up his trusty backpack and walled out of his room. Sammy began singing the theme song to Green Acres as he made his way to the abandoned oil rig.
