Supercape
Nick and Rene sort out Maitre Carrefour, and the walking dead... OOC for this thread. Link to comment
Supercape
Rene using Nick and Eric reputation thread. He is burning 1 HP to get 5 ranks in gather information (beginners luck feat) for a total +7 bonus. I will give him +2 bonus for Nick, as it is in field, and -2 for Eric, as it is out of his field. For Nick 1d20+7=18 with +2 Bonus Just hits the DC 20 Nick tends to hang around Lantern Hill Cemetery, which is also known to be a haunt to Freedom Angel and Dead Head, as well as receive the careful attentions of Fleur de Joie. During his time down South, he was most often spotted operating out of Savannah. For Eric 1d20+7=9 with -2; nada. Link to comment
Supercape
One day until the big show, so that does give a chance to use the artificer feat if you wish and have the resources to do so. Rene will construct a small compass: Tracking 1, ranged detect Necromancy superpower [mental] which comes in at 3 PP. 2 Hours to design, at a -5 penalty to creating it. DC is 17. He will take 10 on the check to succeed automatically. Constructing it takes 12 Hours, the rest of the day. (will skip -5 penalty to half construction time). DC is 13 with the penalty, which he will make automatically. By midnight the device will be half finished, it will be ready by the event tomorrow morning. Link to comment
trollthumper
And I rolled a 12 to figure out the religious significance of the item. That thoroughly bollocksed, let's further investigate the arcane significance with a Knowledge (arcane lore) role. I'd say that went a fair bit better, with a 25. Link to comment
Supercape
Its a totem through which one can store ones soul, thus letting your body live on for ever as an undead. More malignantly, you could use it to capture the souls of the dying in it. However, possessing the totem, one could also command the stored soul. Its dangerous! and EVVVVVVIL . Link to comment
trollthumper
All right, I have Death Awareness to 1000 ft. Is it all right if I roll a Notice check to try to pick up on a rough location for the statue of Kali? And in case it is, that's a 12 on the Notice check, so it'll likely be a rather rough idea. Supercape
By Death Awareness I presume its "Necromancy" awareness rather than being aware if anything dies? - I read it as the latter but I trust your judgement on this. As that sense is neither acute nor accurate, all I can give you is that it is near. No active necromancy spells being used, and nobody dying! 8-) Link to comment
trollthumper
And making a plain old normal Notice check, just in case: That's a 19. Might get me something. Link to comment
Supercape
Its pretty mundane at the moment. If you wish, you can catch sight of Doctor Singh,. phD, preparing for his talk. He has the icon with him, dressed in a suit, and looks Indian. Link to comment
Supercape
This is a plot device power: Will Drain, Slow Fade (1 hour), Subtle, Insidious. DC 20 To soften us up for later problems! 1d20+8=23 for Rene. Link to comment
trollthumper
29 for Nick. I'd say that's pretty good. Link to comment
Supercape
Indeed it is! Dr. Singh is only an academic, so I will handwaive anything you wish to do in terms of combat. He is but a pawn! muahaha! Sense Motive rolls 1d20+8=15 for Rene Link to comment
Supercape
He ain't normal! Link to comment
trollthumper
Nick's using his No Dominion spell. That'll be a DC21 Will save for either the academic or the statue, whichever one's pulling off the mojo. Link to comment
Supercape
I'm wasn't entirely sure how to save that, as its more of a one of plot device effect, so I gave it +10 will save because that the effect level. 1d20+10=21 Which is a bit pants of me, but there you go. Link to comment
trollthumper
Ah, well. Here's the bit where I use the power I've never actually had cause to use yet, Preparation of the Offerings. As it's a straight-up Disintegration power, the statue needs to make a DC14 Fortitude save (if it even has a Fort score) then a DC19 Toughness save. Link to comment
Supercape
The mind boggles! For the sake of complete cool, and given Nick's authority over the dead! It explodes! releasing a hundred screaming captured souls! Link to comment
Supercape
Some handwavium here, but Given Nick's supersenses, he can detect over a hundred circling souls vyinng for the 20 bodies in the room! :!: Link to comment
trollthumper
And here's the bit where I try Diplomacy. Well, that's a 21. It's not bad; let's see what it does. Link to comment
trollthumper
All right, spending a Hero Point to stunt a Summon 11 off of my Gifts of the Dead Array. As this isn't for combat purposes, it probably won't be a huge deal. If it helps, here's Wikipedia giving a brief description of Papa Ghede and some of his compatriots. Link to comment
Supercape
THanks thats very helpful! I think I may be well out of my depth relative to your knowledge here, so I am going to step back from GM duties slightly and let you take narrative control for a little bit if thats ok. GM wise, the Stunt will allow a sort out of the souls, guiding those who have no legitimate bodies to the afterlife, and those who just got ripped from their bodies, back. IE it sorts out the mess. I'll let you handle the specifics as you clearly know a lot more about this than I! Link to comment
trollthumper
Two Notice checks: one to check for Singh's pulse, and one to use the Postcognition on Nick's Banshee Wail power. Link to comment
Supercape
Id say anybody with reasonable INT could check for a pulse, so thats not worth rolling for (unless it was reaaaaaly faint or the situations was reaaaly disadvantageous!). Postcognition roll is good to go! Singh Soul was (partly) trapped in the Artifact too, and got released - which begs the question what exactly was controlling him? Something that could still access his thoughts and expertise at least. When Papa appeared Dr Singh's Soul was so "guilty" he begged Papa for release. Link to comment
Supercape
Maitre Carrefour (from Books of Magic p113) is behind this little caper. Doctor Singh met him a few months ago, in Mexico, and the evil wizard ensnared his soul in the artifact that Singh himself had discovered. Singh was not entirely innocent, thinking he could get some arcane power himself from the device. Hence his guilt and departure to the afterlife. Carrefour is still at large however... Search / Investigate rolls may be handy here, to look through Singh's diary, briefcase, and notes. Alternatively, Gather Information to find out whats going on. DC 15 for a vague clue, DC 20 For a strong clue, DC 25 for the above to be revealed in detail, DC 30 and you can get everything! Link to comment
