trollthumper Posted January 21, 2011 Posted January 21, 2011 Push, Equinox, Nick Cimitiere, Arcturus and Gabriel go out into rural Pennsylvania to solve a mystery while preventing the next Satanic panic. BTW, feel free to have your character contacted by what you view as appropriate means; if your character wouldn't necessarily be, say, viewing a message board for pagans and practitioners, then perhaps it catches your eye on CNN, or in the Forteana section of an on-line news site, or gossip at church over coffee and donuts.
trollthumper Posted January 22, 2011 Author Posted January 22, 2011 Okay, so, Nick tries to Bluff the presiding officer that he's part of the investigation. That's a 13... versus the officer's 26. Well, that fails, and the officer is now at a default of Unfriendly. So Nick tries Diplomacy... which is something more of a success. The officer is now Indifferent, and waiting for his boss to check in.
Quinn Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Troll, I forgot to make my Recurring Nightmares check when I made my starting post. However, since the characters will likely be spending an overnight in this town during the thread, do you want me to save the roll until then, or just make it now?
trollthumper Posted January 23, 2011 Author Posted January 23, 2011 I suggest making it now, just in case. If you end up pulling an overnight, you can roll again then.
Quinn Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Right then: Recurring Nightmares (DC10) roll. (1d20=18) So Push is Fatigued. He's just hiding it very very well right now. :P
KnightDisciple Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Right! Time to work Gabriel's magic: The gift of Blarney! First, for his greeting with the Sheriff: Diplomacy with Attractive: 42. That shouldn't hurt our chances. Next, we have an intimidate for our "friendly expert": Intimidate: 27. Aw, only rolled a 7. Too bad. Finally, Diplomacy with the Sheriff again to get them some "working space", as well as access to the site, records, etc.: Diplomacy with Attractive: 44. We'd like air-conditioning in our trailer, please. :P
Ecalsneerg Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 and, in Gabriel's case, theologians. "I have a degree!" () Also, I'm going to assume Equinox at least has heard of Vigourie. If she isn't able to have... well, the meaningful pulling out of the pentacle is gonna look a lot less premeditated.
trollthumper Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 Well... that's something. I'd say Equinox definitely gets a Hero Point in this situation. Now comes the fun part - SOCIAL COM-BAAAAAAAAT! Nick Cimitiere used Pointed Defusal! It's rather effective! Vigourie used Dick Move, a.k.a., Intimidate! It may not be very effective...
KnightDisciple Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Right, Gabriel is officially angry. First, Intimidate on Vigourie. 27; pretty effective...But not effective enough. Hero Point to re-roll. 33 is more like it. Ladies and gentleman, he may not be an Archangel, but he did get some tips from one. Next, we have Diplomacy on the Sheriff to further smooth things over. 32: It's pretty effective!
trollthumper Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 That's a 22 on Vigourie's part, so he's shaken, but not necessarily speechless. The Diplomacy check works against Durand, but there'll be a penalty due to the fact that a shouting match has broken out in her jurisdiction (the "I can't handle this crap" clause).
trollthumper Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 Nick Cimitiere used religious trivia! It doesn't seem that effective... So he reaches for a Hero Point. Yeah, I'd say he knows about the theological roots of glossolalia now. For record's sake, Gabriel is down one HP, Nick is down one HP, and Equinox is up one HP from starting totals.
trollthumper Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 And I'll need Knowledge (arcane lore) and Knowledge (theology and philosophy) rolls from everyone! That's a 27 on Arcane Lore, and an 18 on Theology. I know what that means, but I'll wait until everyone shares their rolls.
Ecalsneerg Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I'm just going to use Skill Mastery on Theology, giving me an easy 20. I got Arcane knowledge (1d20+15=21) Eh, we got another mage here :P
Quinn Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I'll skip that, since I already have the AEGIS notes. They're like Cliff's notes, but with more spy-speak! That, and Push doesn't have those skills. >.<
GranspearZX Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Arcturus's Arcane Lore (1d20+10=22) roll. Since he doesn't actually have that other Knowledge skill, an INT check is all he's got (1d20+1=12)
trollthumper Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 All right, everyone who got a 20 or up in Arcane Lore or Theology, as this is a weird area where the two blend... The inverted cross is a symbol often associated with Satanists. While it's associated with the crucifixion of St. Peter within the Christian church, it's taken as a symbol of the inversion of all Christ stood for -- not in actual devil worship or Satanism, but more in black metal and other pop culture iterations. The "fletching" on the "arrow" appears to be the rear half of an inverted pentagram, which is considered more of a classical symbol of both LaVeyan Satanism (which is more the theological version of Objectivism) and devil worship.
Quinn Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Info from AEGIS too, you see what sums up to this on the sheet: -The occult experts at AEGIS are drawing comparisons with one of the sigils representing a demon of the Ars Goetia, but it's missing enough details that an untrained observer could mistake it for anything from Futhark runes to the veve of one of the loa.
Quinn Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 And a bit of bravado from Push to buck up the Sheriff, who could likely use a stiff drink at this point. Comforting Bluff roll. (1d20+13=20)
KnightDisciple Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 This, I can help with. But no bravado here, just honest experience. Diplomacy: 42. It's the answer, yo! EDIT: And basically, Gabriel's asking to be let loose on the town to perform Gather Information. 8-)
Ecalsneerg Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Let's use Extra Effort kids! Super-Senses 8 (earth sense: Acute, Analytical, Extended 3, Radius, Tracking 2) off the magic array. And at TT's request: Awesome notice (1d20+15=34)
trollthumper Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 And as Ecal scored a 34 on this one... Equinox detects the faint musk of heavy perfume, but it quickly gives way to something else -- brimstone. In addition to the brimstone is the scent of gangrenous flesh. Blood and viscera also dance on the wind, but you can tell where that came from. The scent of brimstone and gangrene seems to lead east, back into town.
Quinn Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Taking 10 on a plain Notice check for a 22, and found squat. :P
trollthumper Posted January 25, 2011 Author Posted January 25, 2011 Everyone who heard Eric's strange prophecy, make another Knowledge (arcane lore) roll. Or Knowledge (theology), your choice. He gets a 15, so he doesn't quite gleam the important term there.
Quinn Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Quinn hauls out his PDA (which for some obscure reason has internet access) and types in the prophecy. Cue untrained knowledge check! Knowledge (Arcane Lore) (1d20=9) Knowledge (Theology) (1d20=9) . . .YouTube uses Distract! It's super effective! Push has been distracted! (EDIT): In the event nobody manages to make the roll, which is highly unlikely, Push takes 20 and an hour of research as they are heading back into town to see if he can gleam the answer with Google-fu.
GranspearZX Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Arc's Knowledge (Arcane Lore) roll: 1d20+11=23
