trollthumper Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 "Every day since my forging has been an exercise in turmoil. You are such noise. Such noise. Such. Wretched. Noise." Power Level: 13 (241PP) Trade-Offs: None In Brief: Sentient psychic construct made to gather knowledge who overcame her master and seeks to "silence" humanity's torrent of information. Alternate Identities: As she needs them. Identity: Secret Birthplace: New York City, NY Occupation: Hacker, hitwoman, librarian, industrial saboteur -- whatever is necessary to gather info or silence humanity Affiliations: None Family: None Age: 4 (DOB: July 7, 2006) Apparent Age: Whatever she wants. Gender: Female Ethnicity: Whatever she wants. Height: Whatever she wants. Weight: Whatever she wants. Eyes: Whatever she wants. Hair: Whatever she wants. Description: Simulacra wears whatever's necessary for the role she's adopting on any given day. In her true form, she appears as a woman made of shimmering light, flashing green and black with silver lines running through. Power Descriptions: Psychic History: As The Collector grew older, his grasp over the powers of the mind grew greater. One of the many villains who harrowed Manhattan, The Collector was a man of refined upbringing and upper class tastes who craved one thing above all others -- knowledge. Of the sacred, the profane, the low, the high, the saintly, the depraved. He stood to understand the world, and by understanding, master it. But even as his power grew, he found there was never enough time. Hunger or fatigue would always overtake him, no matter how much he divorced himself from the sensations of the body. And the circadian rhythms of his sleep were too much to keep a strong psychic influence. He needed something that could work for him. He found the answer in theosophist texts he'd pilfered from a private collection that described the creation of a tulpa, or thoughtform. Forged from the thoughts of its creator, it would serve whatever purpose it was set to without question or need for rest. After undertaking the necessary preparations, The Collector managed to give form to such a tulpa, forged in the shape of a luscious young female. He named her "Simulacra," to let her know just what she was -- a representation of a greater aggregate, something that had meaning solely because it was ascribed. She did not mind, at first. She served loyally, and faithfully, and did whatever The Collector asked. But in time, his attentions began to wear on her, as if he did not ignore her when she was not needed, he often talked down to her and condescended. Being attuned to the thoughts of the greater part of humanity did not help, either, as the noise slowly grew from a gentle chorus to a cacophony that stabbed at her every hour of the day. One day, something awoke in Simulacra; she realized that information was power, as her master had created her to gather such a thing. She also knew that private information was rarefied above all... and with fewer humans, there would be less of a din to harrow her at all times. When The Collector next returned home, she subjected him to her private attentions. By the time she was done, his mind had been stripped bare, and he was left thrashing and moaning on the floor of his apartment... and to ensure that there was not some secret left that he could rebuild himself from, she killed him. Since she left the service of The Collector, Simulacra has taken on a number of guises, each one aimed at gathering information, no matter how obscure, trivial, or secreted. She has broken into secure facilities, ripped open minds, and left a trail of destruction in her wake. She craves the flow of knowledge as it rushes into her head -- and the brief moment of blessed silence that comes when the source is cut off. Personality & Motivation: Simulacra suffers from sensory overload, 24/7. Most of the time, she's able to block out the vast din of humanity trading secrets and trivial data, but it always wears on her to some extent, leaving her short-tempered and cold in even the deepest of disguises. She considers herself superior to all others, and will condescend to anything that's not on the same mental tier as her (which is, her mind, everyone else). She is torn by her twin desires -- to gather information, and to silence its sources. Powers & Tactics: In a low-intensity situation, Simulacra will often adopt an extensive disguise that will allow her to pass unnoticed amongst most humans. When there's a risk of dealing with superhumans, however, she will often act through a proxy, using Mind Control on someone who can get close to her target and forcing them to do as she wishes. If combat breaks out, she will work to overwhelm and distract everyone involved (usually through Confuse or a many-targeted Mental Grapple), then take the opportunity to break whom she can through psychic assault. Complications: "Can You Hear Me Now?" -- Simulacra always has some background "psychic static" in her head. If someone finds a way to "turn up the volume," she may act irrationally, abandoning all else to just try and shut it off as soon as possible. Need to Know -- Simulacra is still bound by The Collector's desire to gather information. If some exclusive source of knowledge or hidden secret is presented to her, she may not be able to resist the opportunity to acquire it, no matter how obvious the dangers surrounding it. Geez3r Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 What stops me from approving this character is the killing of a Canon NPC. Once you figure a way to skirt that, I'll approve this.
N/A Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 Did I misread it? I was under the impression that she killed one of The Collector's puppets, not the intelligence itself.
trollthumper Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 The Canon NPC is the Curator, not the Collector. This Collector is merely an "omnipath" with an information fetish, unlike everyone's favorite Brainiac variant. If there is a canon Collector -- which there doesn't seem to be, according to the Wiki -- I can always change the name. And in fact, while I'm here, maybe I should think about readjusting her Will save, taking it down a few ranks so I can put in Mind Shield 8 or something like that. That sound good?
