Quinn
In which Push recieves several visitors to the L.A.I.R, Nick Cimitere....and a portal-load of party crashers! Link to comment
trollthumper
So, as discussed in chat, Nick will be spending a HP to Stunt Comprehend (Spirits) into Comprehend (Languages). And now let's see if I understand it... 20 on the Arcane Lore roll, and... 20 on the Theology roll. Why didn't I just take 10? Link to comment
Quinn
Arcane Lore - Despite the age and corruptive aura, you can tell this sheet describes a long and complex ritual surrounding the summoning of "The Horned One", a Germanic demon of fear. It has gone by many names, but none in particular spring to mind right now. You do remember something vague about a previous summoning of a fear demon in Germany a while back, but not much. What does come readily, however, is some guesswork and known capabilities of the demon, specifically it's ability to drain even the sturdiest men of their courage, or disperse an aura that could bring down a small army with gibbering terror. Theology - You can tell this sheet was part of a collection, a folio that was supposedly destroyed many years ago by the Catholic Church, describing various daemonic summons from pagan religions. Sort of a codex or guidebook; "Demon-summoning for Dummies", if you will. Unfortunately, the author's name does not spring to mind either, but whoever managed to bring this sheet here had to be either very wealthy, or well-connected, or both. Link to comment
trollthumper
And Nick gets off a surprise attack (I think), unleashing a massive AoE TK Grapple on the demons. And rolling a 3. Hero Point time! That's better. Demons have to make a Reflex save to half the power's DC... which'll take the save down to 30. And a 25 on Initiative, because that's kinda necessary now. Quinn
Alright, I'll give it 3 rounds before Push arrives. Minion Reflex Rolls (1d20+5=7, 1d20+5=20, 1d20+5=13, 1d20+5=9, 1d20+5=23, 1d20+5=17, 1d20+5=25, 1d20+5=20, 1d20+5=8, 1d20+5=9, 1d20+5=18, 1d20+5=17) Ok, so Imps 1, 3, 4, 10, 11 fail, Imps 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 13 succeed. Reflex Saves - Warriors (1d20+4=12, 1d20+4=21) Warrior 1 fails, Warrior 2 succeeds. Demon Boss Reflex (1d20+7=10) Demon Boss fails. Ok, even with reflex halving their saves, Imps can't break 25, so they auto-fail and are Bound. Demon Warrior Grapple saves (1d20+11=26, 1d20+11=17) Both Warriors fail. Demon Boss grapple check (1d20+21=29) And Demon Boss fails! Link to comment
trollthumper
Okay, then. I'm going to see if Nick can actually Intimidate a demon. 17. Not the most promising of options, but still... Link to comment
Quinn
Save vs. Intimidation (1d20+11=20) Sorry mate, no dice. How long until they can make the next save against the Bound? Link to comment
trollthumper
They can try to break or escape the grapple on their turn as a Move Action. Link to comment
Quinn
Right. Imps auto-fail again. Warriors: Breaking Grapple checks (1d20+11=16, 1d20+11=29) Neither succeed. Boss: Breaking Grapple check (1d20+21=22) . . .yep, he fails too. >.< Would you say these Demons would be automatically familiar with Nick's reputation (considering he's a fairly kickarse caster who's probably dealt with demons beforehand)? Link to comment
trollthumper
That would depend. Nick hasn't had as much experience with demons (of any religion, be they the fallen angels of Abrahamic faiths or the demon-kings of Hinduism) as he has with creatures of the realms of the dead. Mainly, he stays away from them, if he can help it... but he does like to kick their ass up between their ears every now and then. So, you make the call. And seeing as the demon might not be forthcoming, I'll be using my third round to throw an imp at one of the warriors. I'm guessing a 23 hits, so both imp and warrior will need to make a DC20 Toughness save (it's based off my rank 5 Telekinesis). Link to comment
Quinn
I'd say he's surprisingly knowledgeable for a demon. And it's dramatically appropriate. I'll make those rolls once we catch up IC. Link to comment
Quinn
I'll say the Imp auto-fails (for my convinience), and the Warrior: DC 20 Toughness save (1d20+7=19) A solid save, he's Bruised. And now, since it's the Demon's turn...Imps auto-fail their grapple checks...Boss breaks grapple? (1d20+21=31) Boss breaks grapple! Demon Warriors escape? (1d20+11=28) But the Warriors do not. Take an HP, Troll, and the Warriors escape as well. Correction! The Boss uses his Fearsome Prescence 10. DC 20 Will save, please. :D Link to comment
trollthumper
I'd say that works. I'm gonna try to pin down the free demons again. That's a 24. Let's see how it goes. Link to comment
Quinn
Reflex saves! (1d20+4=14, 1d20+4=16) Demon Warrior 1 fails, Demon Warrior 2 succeeds. Grapple checks! (1d20+11=21, 1d20+11=23) Demon Warrior 1 is Pinned, Demon Warrior 2 is not. Boss grapple check (1d20+21=26) Demon Boss isn't either. Warrior 2 steps forward and swipes at Nick... Sword-swipe! DC 22 TOU save. (1d20+5=7) And he missed by a country mile. Demon Boss does nothing except flex his muscles. Top of the round again, Push enters the fray next round. Nick Cimitere: Unharmed, HP 3 Demon Warrior 1: Unharmed, Pinned, HP 0 Demon Warrior 2: Bruised, HP 0 Demon Boss: Unharmed, HP 0 Imps 1-11: Bound, Helpless, HP 0 Link to comment
trollthumper
I'll probably be keeping the hands up until Push arrives. So, let's try this again. Maintaining Grapple on those who are already pinned as a Free Action, and my Standard will be another attack. 28 this time. As usual, DC15 Reflex save to reduce that to DC26. And hell, while I'm at it, why don't I demoralize as a Move Action? Well, aside from the fact that I rolled a 13 on it... Link to comment
Quinn
Demon Boss auto-passes that one, mate (unless he can roll a not-one >.<) Demoralize Check (1d20+11=29) And that's a not-one. DC 24 Grapple save (1d20+11=14) Demon Warrior 1 is still Pinned. DC 15 Reflex save (1d20+4=16) Demon Warrior 2 succeeds at Reflex save, DC 26 Grapple check (1d20+11=20) but fails the Grapple check. Grapple check! (1d20+21=26) for the Demon Boss. Failure. >.> <.< >.> *sneaks an HP to Troll* Right, so the Demon Boss stands up, very angry indeed, and throws the remainder of the car at Nick. Throwing zee car! (1d20+4=7) And misses by a country mile. Man, invisiblecastle does NOT like these demons. Also... A NEW CHALLENGER HAS ARRIVED! All Out Attack (+5 Attack, -5 Defense) Kinetic Blast! (1d20+14=22) DC 28 Toughness save (1d20+12=28) Link to comment
trollthumper
All right, then. And as Push is here, I'm going to try and scare the hell (ha) out of everyone. Banshee Wail, Push is exempt. Emotion Control (Fear) AoE, DC19 Will save on the part of the demons. Link to comment
Quinn
Imps auto-fail on that one (as they should, given the VOICE OF AZRAEL). DC 19 Will saves (1d20+4=6, 1d20+4=6) Warriors epic fail as well. And as for the Demon Boss... DC 19 Will save (1d20+11=31) Yeah, he's not spooked at all. Takes a swing at Nick to clam him up... Mace-swing! DC 26 TOU save! (1d20+10=19) DC 26 if that hits, Troll. Push uses his AOE to clear out the Imps as emphasis for your BIG VOICE. Link to comment
trollthumper
That does not hit. And as the demon boss is the only one to escape my mezzes and Emotion Control is a Lasting effect, I'll be switching over to Ereshkigal's Talons, moving forward, and swiping at the demon boss. Guessing a 26 hits; if it does, that's a DC29 Toughness save. Link to comment
Quinn
DC 29 TOU save (1d20+12=27) And he's Bruised. Push comes in with the hammer to back him up. Charging (+2 Attack, -2 Defense), All Out Attack (+5 Attack, -5 Defense), Power Attack (+5 Damage, -5 Attack) Augmented Hammerstrike! DC 33 TOU save! (1d20+10=22) Oh, this is gonna hurt. Bruised DC 33 TOU Save (1d20+11=17) It hurts. Demon's down. Two demon warriors are left. Still feared and bound though, poor buggers. :P Link to comment
