Thevshi Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Velocity was not too happy that she had been spotted, but she just smiled slightly at the thought of them trying to outrun her. Good luck with that. She thought. But, she still needed them to lead her to wherever they were going. Wish I had some handy dandy tacking device. Another idea came to her as she let the van start pulling away from her as they crossed the bridge. She let it pull ahead a good bit, and when it moved around a car and its line of sight with her was blocked, she accelerated to full speed. Running up along the lane furthest from it, she sped across the bridge and about three blocks ahead, stopping to turn back and see where the van went, ducking out of the way if it went straight across the bridge.

Veiled Malice Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 It didn't appear that Velocity's plan worked, as the van lurched forwards, its engine roaring under the effects of being put under such strain. It whipped around a couple cars, desperately trying to shake the far more maneuverable metahuman off its tail. A chorus of honks sounded as the van cut off several cars, but the driver seemed oblivious to the chaos, or worse, trying to cause an accident.

Thevshi Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Velocity frowned as the van tried continued to seem to be pulling away from her, dangerously weaving through traffic to do so. Deciding that there had been enough of the attempts at stealth, she figured she should just bring this to a halt and stop them and question them. Starting after the van, she tried to catch up so she could try to blow out a tire with some hyper-velocity marbles.

Veiled Malice Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 Pulling to within feet of the escaping van was simple for the hyper-quick heroine. All she had to do was run along the suspension cables to avoid the madly swerving mess down below, then rejoin the chase on the other side of the bridge. It was almost sad how easy running down something as slow as a car really was. Velocity pulled up right alongside the van, in a perfect position to take out the tires with her improvised weapons.

Thevshi Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 As she came up near the van, Velocity continued to try to keep pace with it, dodging through the traffic a she quickly reached into the pouch on her belt to send several marbles flying at the van’s front tire, one after another.

Veiled Malice Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 A sudden swerve by the van caused Velocity's bullet-like projectiles to fly wide, if only by a few inches. The vehicle skidded sideways, tires trying desperately to hold to the road as it executed a 90 degree turn as soon as it left the bridge. Surprisingly, the normally cumbersome vehicle gracefully performed the maneuver, gliding into their chosen lane like an expert. As soon as they got into the higher density traffic, though, things started getting more dangerous. The van pulled directly into the oncoming lane, playing chicken at speeds exceeding 50 mph on city streets. By some miracle, it didn't run into anything, and began to pull away quickly.

Thevshi Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Velocity scowled as her volley of supersonic marbles disintegrated on the cement as they impacted with it. Her steps had faltered slightly as she focused on the attack. Sweeping around several cars, she tried to catch back up to try again.

Veiled Malice Posted February 7, 2008 Author Posted February 7, 2008 The van bearing her quarry had pulled ahead of Velocity, as due to her concern for innocent people, she had to hang back a bit to get these psychos to calm down a bit. But one way or another, this chase was going to end soon. Even with the roar of the wind and careening screech of car tires, she could hear that something was very wrong with the van itself. Pushing the poor vehicle as fast and as hard as they had been, it was now on it's last legs. All she needed to do was keep up - simplicity in itself. A sudden jerk left took the van onto a sidestreet, and there it ran out of luck. It sideswiped a Oldsmobile pulling up to the intersection, slewed out into a line of parked cars, rammed two of them, then bounced off, running on only two wheels. Precariously positioned like that, it seemed like a slow motion video of a building falling over to Velocity as the van finally pitched over onto its side and skidded a last few feet before coming to a halt. A few people looked on in awe as the crash happened, and then started to make their way over to the vehicle, trying to see if they could help.

Thevshi Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 As the van tried once more to outmaneuver her, failing spectacularly, Velocity agilely followed after it, skidding to a halt a short distance from where it finally stopped. Noting that people were starting to move towards it, she moved forward a bit so they could see her and yelled out. “Don’t get near them, there are kidnappers in the van! If someone could call the police, that would be great.†Then, focusing on the van, she called out to the driver and his companions, if they were in much shape to do anything. “You all going to make this easy on yourselves and give up?â€Â
