Son of Jack Wolf of the Atom Family. [anchor]Description[/anchor]Jump To: [[goto=Top]Top[/goto]/[goto=Description]Description[/goto]/[goto=Stats]Stats[/goto]/[goto=Sidekick]Sidekick[/goto]] Alternate Identities: Sam Wolf Identity: Public Birthplace: Nakhodka, Russia Occupation: Former Soldier of Fortune; Adventurer Affiliations: Atom Family; Various Para-Military Groups Family: Jack Wolf (Father), Arisha Rahal (Mother; Deceased) Age: 28 Gender: Male Ethnicity: Russian Height: 6'1" Weight: 195 lbs. Eyes: Blue Hair: Dark Blond Description: Sam Wolf stands just over six feet tall, making him just taller than his father. He stands tall and proud. Inspired by the knowledge that he's survived on his own, living through countless hardships and trials in his life, his confidence practically bleeds out of him. He even bears the scars he's earned with pride. He is very much his father's son, both in looks and in mentality. Power Descriptions: Sam's powers come from his training. Though he has had little interaction with his father over the years, he was blessed by a visit from him when he was nine. During the short lived visit, his father taught him how to speak English, and Spanish. He was taught to fight like his father, and he was taught how to survive in all the ways his father knew how. He learned both martial combat, and gun play. But by the time Sam's eleventh birthday came, his father had already been long gone. He left behind the knowledge, and a fledgling eagle to keep his son company. Sam raised the eagle, and trained it to be his companion. He continued the training of himself and his eagle without his father well into adulthood. The two are now inseparable, and share a bond that can only exist between to creatures that spend every moment of life by each other's side. History: When Andrea Atom and Mentac the mentalist became romantically involved, Jack left Freedom City and became a soldier of fortune, fighting in various brush wars and conflicts around the world. That much is common knowledge, though at the time, few knew where he had gone. The other half of his story will remain untold, but begins with his first military tour in South East Russia and Asia and the Insurgency in Laos. Stationed at a base near the border of Laos, it was common for some of the soldiers to retreat into Russia during leave. Nakhodka, Russia was the largest city in the area, and had the advantage of being a trade city, though it's borders had been closed to foreign traffic since 1950. One night, early in 1983 Jack met a woman named Arisha Rahal who was a native of Nakhodka. It didn't take long for a recently heartbroken Jack trying to forget his former life to fall for Arisha, nor her for him. The two shared several wonderful weeks together, but unfortunately, his military duties pulled him from her side before he ever knew she was carrying his child. Arisha, named her son Sam, because it reminded her of the American she'd fallen in love with. She raised him on her own from a baby while working tables at a tavern in the port. For nearly eight years, she gave him all her love. But fell suddenly sick before his eight birthday. Just before her death, she managed to mail a letter to the Atom Family in America. They made sure that if found it's way to Jack, oversees. That was the first time he'd ever known Sam existed. He immediately stole a plane and defected from the army in the current conflict, and flew to Russia. There he met his son for the first time. He'd expected his son to be bitter, but he was immediately welcomed. Over the years, the tales his mother had spun of his father, the great traveling soldier had sugar coated the truth so much, there was nothing about Jack not to love in Sam's mind. The two were instantly inseparable, and for a time, Jack was happy again. He passed on what he knew to his son, teaching him everything from foreign languages, to how to defend himself. Tragedy struck in 1993 when the world suffered the Terminus invasion. When word finally reached Russia of the attacks on Freedom City, time had already grown short. Jack called his son into the front room of the house late one night. He handed Sam a large egg. The biggest Sam had ever seen. "It's a Stellar's Sea Eagle egg, son. I found it on the shores nearby, abandoned. I've been keeping it warm, hoping it will hatch, thinking that a baby eagle would make a great pet! But I've got to go, son. I have friends in America who need my help. Keep the egg warm, Sam. I'll be back as soon as I'm able." With that, he struck out into the yard, uncovered the plane in the barn, and used it to fly to America. As 11 year old Sam, watched his father fly away from the door of their home, he began to cry. He hadn't cried when his mother had died. She'd told him that he needed to be strong. His father was coming, and she said he'd want to be proud of his son. Crying wouldn't do. Now, however, his father had left too. Once again, Sam was alone. As he stared of into the dark, night sky, the snows began to fall. Then, something remarkable happened. The eagle egg hatched. As the overlarge fledgling poked it's head out of the shell for the first time, Sam couldn't help but laugh at it's awkwardness, even through the tears. A single snow flake fell on the bird's beak. It shook off the cold melting flake. Then snapped at a few others falling nearby. Same knew at once what to call his new best friend. After the conflict with Omega, Jack Wolf was charged with safeguarding the Atom family's children. He accepted, and watched them while they grew. The moment the oldest children were able to watch over the young ones, Jack told them he was taking a vacation, and flew to Russia as fast as possible. When he arrived in Nakhodka in the year 2000, Sam was nowhere to be found. He asked around, and discovered that the boy had left years ago, when the conflict in Laos worsened again. They said he'd been only 15. Jack had missed him by a full two years. He didn't give up, though. He marched straight into Laos, but met with a dead end. The conflict there was so chaotic that the favor of battle shifted daily. New territories were captured even while others were being lost. He couldn't find anyone who could remember a Russian boy with a pet eagle. Even if Sam was still here, still fighting, still alive, there would have been no way to even tell which side he'd joined. Jack refused to fight in another war where every soldier he would kill could be his own son. With a heavy heart, he returned to the states, and the Atoms. Sam had indeed moved on by the time he had even arrived in Laos. Sam made many stops in various conflicts in South East Asia and even Africa. He fought in most of the minor conflicts over the large area including, the Kurdistan Workers' Party conflict in Turkey, the Lord's Resistance Army insurgency in Uganda, and participated in the Insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir. By the time he was 20, Snow, his pet eagle was as much a combatant as he was. The bird would fly high in the sky, and identify the location of troops on the ground. Sam quickly discovered that he had an inexplicable connection to Snow. Their thoughts were practically shared. Snow always knew when Sam needed help, and Sam could always tell when his friend was hungry. Sam always fought in the lesser wars. When he was 21, Snow was just reaching adulthood. At the time Sam was stationed in Ogaden, Ethiopia during 2001. He was stationed at an outpost of the Ethiopian military which was attacked by the ONLF. The attack was sudden, they were taken by surprise within what was little more than a shack. Sam fought one of the attackers bare handed, but took a bullet in his shoulder in the process. Not a split second later, there was a high pitched screech, and a man screamed in terror and panic. Both Sam and the man he was fighting looked up to see a massive eagle clawing at the face of the man stationed by the door. Sam's opponent fired at the eagle, but succeeded in hitting nothing but his friend. Seizing the opportunity, Sam stole the man's gun, and made quick work of the rest of the insurgents. From then on, tales spread far and wide of the mysterious traveling soldier and his pet eagle. Any conflict they took part in always showed a favorable shift in their direction. Between Snow's eyes, and Sam's expertise, the two were a deadly efficient pair. Finally, many years later, Sam found himself back on the eastern shores of Russia. He'd tracked an infamous arms dealer to the very port he'd been born in. Having been only days behind him, Sam missed his opportunity. The dealer, and his shipment had lifted off on an airstrip just outside of town, where a small farm had once stood. Sam, and Snow stowed away on the next plane making another one of the man's shipments. One long fight later, the plane touched down in the dead of night, just beyond the borders of Freedom City. Personality & Motivation: Sam is a survivor, and a firm supporter of underdogs and the downtrodden. He believes that nothing is unbeatable, no matter the odds. His confidence stems from the fact that he has his own life to show as proof. After arriving in Freedom City, he saw a losing battle raging between the city's heroes, and it's criminals. In a moment of self reflection he realized that it was finally time to follow in his father's footsteps once more. It was finally time for him to move up to the big leagues. He had a new war to fight, now. He was supporting, like he always did, the side of justice. Falconer swore off combat with the guns he'd been trained to use. He swore off killing. It was time he cleaned up his act, turned over a new leaf, and really learned to help people. He'd spent too long defending those that could pay for it. It's time he made it up to the less fortunate people of the world. Powers & Tactics: Sam has very few actual powers to speak of. Besides the remarkable link between himself and Snow, he finds the only other extraordinary ability he has is an uncanny ability to understand, and make bird calls. The rest of the weapons in his arsenal are just that, weapons. He has a few pieces of better than average equipment he's acquired over the years during conflicts, including an extremely light weight, collapsible hang glider, and a wrist mounted grappling hook with blades on the end used to dig secure holds on uneven surfaces. Complications: Feathered Friend: Sam and Snow are inseparable. Sam raised the eagle from an egg, and will go out of his way to ensure that Snow does not meet with any harm. Family: Sam's father, Jack Wolf, is still alive, and taking care of the Atom Children. This could cause some touchy situations should there be a confrontation. No Women, No Children: Sam may be a professional soldier, but even a Mercenary can have standards. Sam will not attack women or children unless the preservation of others lives, or his own dictates that he must. Sam will go out of his way to ensure that any women and children caught in a conflict are taken out of harms way. quotemyname Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 Design Notes:  When this character is approved Breakdown should be retired, effective immediately. The build for this character is taken from multiple places. Sam has John Wolf's Skill and Feat blocks (with a few points shaved or added here and there) to reflect his training. He also shares a few feats with common builds of the Falcon from ATT. The Wrist mounted grappler is also taken from a Falcon build. I shaved a few points in order to bring it down to Device 1 instead of 2. Snow is PL8 to allow for the 8 points in mandatory drawbacks on her sheet, and to comply with House Rules (drawbacks cannot exceed PL). Snow is PL 6 offensively and defensively, and is also PL6 in her skill section. Edits made to equipment: Arsenal + General to replace AR-14; Edits made to Snow: Fixed STR/Shrinking Discrepency (4/11/11) Approval by Geez3r  Added a quote. Exchanged 4pp worth of STR on Sidekick for the "Normal Strength (+1)" extra on Sidekick shrinking power. Same point cost. Only mechanical difference is in carrying capacity. This reflects real world ability of eagles this size to fly of with fully grown goats/deer and the like.
Dr Archeville Posted April 14, 2011 Posted April 14, 2011 Reading now... Communication Link should be under Super-Senses, it's not a standalone power.
quotemyname Posted April 14, 2011 Author Posted April 14, 2011 Done. Also added the Psychic Descriptor. It seemed appropriate.
