Fly Me to the Moon

The Emissary reached out to grab for his half smashed opponent, spinning his body around then to hurl the machine like a discus towards his remaining companion, spinning... spinning... focusing... and then-

His communicator flares to life, and he lets go far too early from the distraction, sending the robot hurtling out into the void.

"We're extremely occupied at the moment!"

Is the sum of his response to Raindance.

A voice echoes through Rose's head. A boy? Someone young. She can't place it. She feels terrible. She feels like throwing up, but she doesn't really have a stomach. She realises where she is. Realises that she is in danger, but can't think of anything but the incredible pain. She just drifts, struggling against her own nausea.

The two heroes moved on from the wreckage to the next nearest hangar. It had a smaller footprint than the first and was much "shorter," probably only a few stories at the tallest point. As the heroes approached the large retractable door (big enough for a large truck or a small, personal aircraft) they could hear a mechanical hum, which slowly turned into a "chug, chug, chug" sound. The sound was definitely coming from inside the hangar, but it seemed further away.

The Emissary grabbed the injured robot and hefted it as hard as he could at its partner. The throw missed but still managed to send the nearly destroyed bot sailing off into space. It took a few seconds for the bot to right itself and begin jetting its way back to the combat. While it advanced, the other bot turned its disintegration ray back on the Emissary, but in all the chaos of the melee it missed its target.

“I’m going to head in to see what that is.†Velocity said as she heard the noise from inside the hanger. Speeding up, she vibrated her body as she ran towards the wall and passed right through, slowing down on the other end and moving to the right to get a look what was inside the hanger.

The Emissary hurtles over then to the closer robot, levelling a strike, only for it to go wide as he passes by his mark, still not having adjusted fully to the weightless depths of the void.

Rose began to get her thoughts under control. She was hurt, and badly. She was fighting so hard against the pain, but now she let it wash over her. The deluge had been released, and by doing so it had lost some of it's power. Rose felt a little better, and inside, quietly, she hoped this would be the beginning of a turnaround. Now, if she could only stop seeing stars, 'oh, wait a minute...'

In just a few seconds the bots were back on the offensive. The both fired at the heroes, but one of them was still so badly damaged that its weapon misfired, missing Valkyrie by a mile. The other bot nailed the Emissary in the shoulder.

Velocity passed through the wall effortlessly . . . and fell. She dropped about 20 feet to a concrete floor. The entire floor of the hangar, in fact, was missing. The ground beneath the dome had been hollowed up about two stories deep. And just about every inch of the hangar's "basement" was filled with a high-tech assembly line. It was churning out all kinds of giant "toys." Wind up robots. Jack-in-the-boxes. Airplanes. Just about every kind of toy was represented. A conveyor belt was moving the finished toys onto a platform where they were being teleported . . . somewhere.

As she began to fall, Velocity quickly reacted to the sudden lack of footing, years of cheerleading and gymnastics helping her deal with the situation. Tucking into a front flip, she landed lightly on her feet, rolling out of the fall and back up to her feet.

Looking up at the massive conveyor belts and assembly line, her mouth opening slightly in amazement. Pulling out her communicator, she sent a message to Raindance, the others in space and Daedalus. “This is Velocity, I found the robot toy assembly line. There are tons of these things, and they are being teleported away as soon as they are done.â€Â

The Emissary grimaced from the pain of the impact, letting it spin him about so that he could pull the momentum into a new corkscrew charge towards the uninjured machine, seeking to drive his fists into the robot, and in the spinning arc of his body, then thresh his fists in an expanding circle through its inner gears, calling out to Valkyrie over their comm while on his unnering path towards it.

"Go for the damaged one vigorously and I think we can end this!"

Rose heard Thevshi through her commlink, "Oh, uh..." she couldn't think of a reply at that moment, her head still spinning. Before she had a chance to think of a suitable response she heard the Emissary's voice,

"Go for the damaged one vigorously and I think we can end this!"

Go. Vigorous. End. I can do that. "Roger, dodger." Rose begins to fly toward to the battered robot. She looks like Captain Thunder might, if he was a little intoxicated...

Raindance heard Velocity over the com and immediately sprang into action, imagining her in grave danger. Deciding to be a little more subtle now that there were no girls to impress, he simply blasted at where the locking mechanism for the nearest door was likely located so he could gain access to the hangar.

Posted

Valkyrie limped ahead toward the damaged bot, but while she approached it blasted at her again. The disintegration ray struck her head-on. The other bot fired at the Emissary just as he delivered to it a crushing blow. Its shot went wide as the Emissary nearly ripped it in half with a devastating blow.

Raindance easily blasted through the door's lock, and it opened the way to the 20 foot drop and the "factory," below. He could see Velocity just below him.

Oh boy, are you gonna get it. Rose was floating toward the robot. This whole encounter wasn't exactly going as planned, but she was about to give this robot what for. I've seen Terminator - good guys win, you end up as scrap. She raises her hands up high, ready to bring them down on the metallic menace. This is for John Connor! Before she gets a chance to bring her powerful hands to bear however, the bot fires, striking the hero square. Somewhere down on Earth, Rose Lovell still in her coma, screamed out in pain. At that same moment, the space suit that Valkyrie was wearing was empty, but after a few moments, she returned to it, unmoving.

He barely has time to allow for the shock at seeing Valkyrie's body go still, turning his gaze to the robots that he now faces alone. He cocks back his arm, straining his argent muscles to push every bit of force he can into his fist and hurtling it forward, seeking to drive it through his opponent's head in a display explosive enough to draw attention to him as the primary threat.

The dramatic battle in space was nearing its end . . . one way or the other. The Emissary delivered a devastating blow to one of the remaining bots. It was shattered into thousands of tiny pieces. The last bot took a shot at him, but it was so heavily damaged from the previous blow that the shot went wide.

While the fight ranged on in space, the heroes on the ground finally heard back from Daedalus. His message was heavily distorted by the shielding from the hangar, but Velocity and Raindance could make his words out clear enough.

"Good work. Destroying that factory is the first priority. Make sure the rest of the base is clear as well. There may be more than one facility on site." There was a long static-filled pause. "And if you can figure out where those machines are being teleported to, it will save us that much future leâ€â€"

The message was cut off and the transmission was filled with static.

With only a single target remaining, the Emissary veered sharply towards the lone robot. Too sharply by far unfortunately, causing his strike to go wide well before he had righted himself.

Posted

“Destroy the factory and try to find where they are going. Right, got it.†Velocity replied. She then looked up at Raindance. “It’s about to get loud in here.†She said with a grin.

She was then off in a flash, running towards the nearest set of factory equipment. As she drew near, she triggered another sonic boom. By the time it had gone off, she was already well past it and out of the area of effect, ready to set off another near more equipment.

He couldn't help but laugh in the face of Velocity's infectious smile.

"I'll get to work on the other factories!"

The sky had already begun to darken by the time he had turned around. In less than a minute strong breezes were stirring the dust, then fat raindrops were saturating it. The rumble of thunder was only a split-second before the bolts of lightning began to rain down on the factory where they'd fought the giant toys, as if an angry god were smiting it on the heroes behalf.

The final bot had had enough and began jetting back toward the space platform. The rockets in its feet belched out black smoke, and the badly damaged robot left a trail of debris in its wake. The bot seemed determined now, all of a sudden, to escape, and it was making very good time.

It only took Velocity and Raindance a few minutes to completely demolish the entire hangar that contained "the factory," Velocity dealing damage to the inside, and Raindance to the outside. Finally, when the inside was little more than a heap of wreckage, the rear wall buckled and the roof collapsed, leaving the two heroes standing on the hot pavement to admire their work.

Posted

After setting off one last sonic boom, Velocity sped out of the hanger just as it collapsed, and looked over at Raindance with a grin. “Well, that’s two hangers down. Shall we see what’s behind door number three?â€Â

Posted

"Oh no, not after all that you don't."

The Emissary rocketed after the fleeing robot, fixing himself to its flight path, then accelerating almost to the point of pain, seeking to not just overtake the last of the machines, but drive right through it.

Posted

It didn't take Velocity long to search the rest of the base and discover that it was apparently empty. All signs indicated that the small but efficient factory they had just demolished was a solo operation. But as to who was running the factory or to where the wicked toys were going . . . they discovered no clues.

The last bot shattered into a thousand pieces under the Emissary's "caress." The debris hovered in a tragic cloud in the weightlessness of space. Off in the distance the space platform loomed menacingly.

Emissary eyes the space station warily even as he takes time to recover from the effects of the beams and check over Valkryie to see if she's injured. When he can sort out that she isn't, he resumes his look over of the station as he resumes contact with Raindance and Velocity over the communicators.

"My apologies for the delay, we were in the middle of a fight. We've found some kind of space station at the coordinates Daedelus sent us to, and have fought our way through the first wave of its security. My temptations to say hello by ramming the edifice with the jet nonwithstanding, we're going to proceed in once Valkyrie has recovered."
