trollthumper
All right, then. Here's where we stand: Grimalkin: 24, Unharmed, 3 HP Gabriel: 19, Unharmed, 3 HP Nick Cimitiere: 16, Unharmed, 2 HP Unicorn: 15, Unharmed, 0 HP Jack of All Blades: 14, Unharmed, 6 HP Grimalkin is up first. Heritage
Grim's got Create Object 8, making the bars Hardness 8 (iron). Link to comment
trollthumper
All right. The bars (which I'm assuming are not iron) go up around the unicorn, keeping it in its nice little cage until it gets P.O.'ed. Grimalkin: 24, Unharmed, 3 HP Gabriel: 19, Unharmed, 3 HP Nick Cimitiere: 16, Unharmed, 2 HP Unicorn: 15, Unharmed, 0 HP Jack of All Blades: 14, Unharmed, 6 HP Gabriel is up next. Link to comment
KnightDisciple
Gabriel's not in a "play nice" mood right now. Free action to switch array to Drain Toughness Ranged (since it's held in place anyways!). Let's see... (22:25:05) KnightDisciple: okay then (22:25:14) ChatBot: KnightDisciple rolls 1d20 and gets 5. (22:25:29) KnightDisciple: hm. does 17 hit the Evil Fairy Pony, TT? (22:25:52) trollthumper: It is a PL14 Evil Fairy Pony, so... no. (22:26:06) KnightDisciple: right then. Spending a Hero Point, Rerolling. (22:26:10) ChatBot: KnightDisciple rolls 1d20 and gets 9. (22:26:19) trollthumper: Ooh. Do you have Improved Crit? (22:26:28) KnightDisciple: with the HP, that becomes a 19. plus 12. 31. I do not. So, down an HP, but I hit the thing. DC 22 Fort Save, Rank 12 Drain Toughness. Link to comment
trollthumper
All right. It's still partially concealed, so... (20:37:09) ChatBot: trollthumper rolls 1d20 and gets 19. Damnable unicorns. Grimalkin: 24, Unharmed, 3 HP Gabriel: 19, Unharmed, 2 HP Nick Cimitiere: 16, Unharmed, 2 HP Unicorn: 15, Unharmed, 0 HP Jack of All Blades: 14, Unharmed, 6 HP Nick Cimitiere is up next, and as he doesn't want to do anything to risk the integrity of the cage, he lets fly with Ignis Fatuus. (20:41:17) ChatBot: trollthumper rolls 1d20 and gets 20. ...oh. Well, let's see how the unicorn does on Concealment... (20:43:20) ChatBot: trollthumper rolls 1d20 and gets 20. ...I have never been more disappointed to get two natural 20s in a row. So, now it's the Unicorn's turn. As it's imprisoned, it can't exactly use its horn. But, it can unleash a blast of frigid fury on Grimalkin. That's effectively Blast 12, corrected for caps. (20:49:10) ChatBot: trollthumper rolls 1d20 and gets 13. Okay, 13 + 16 = 29, so it hits Grim. She needs to make a DC27 Toughness save. Jack is up next. Link to comment
Gizmo
At your discretion, troll, I'd like to invoke Jack's Grandstanding complication. First, Jack will spend an HP on Beginner's Luck to get 5 ranks in Ride. With his +5 Dexterity, that gives him a +10 to his Ride check. Ride Check vs. Reflex. (1d20+10=12) Sigh. Ride Check vs. Reflex, HP reroll. (1d20+10=23) Let me know if that works. Link to comment
trollthumper
And thus does Jack ride the unicorn. And gets an HP back, because he pulled it off with style. Grimalkin: 24, Unharmed, 3 HP Gabriel: 19, Unharmed, 2 HP Nick Cimitiere: 16, Unharmed, 2 HP Unicorn: 15, Unharmed, Mounted, 0 HP Jack of All Blades: 14, Unharmed, Riding the Unicorn, 6 HP Grimalkin is up next. Heritage
Toughness save v s Freeze blast: 1d20+14=23. Oh, the pain! Tiny claws can kill! 1d20+14=22 Does that hit? Link to comment
Heritage
Reroll for mighty slashing! 1d20+14+10=27 DC 25 vs Toughness. Link to comment
trollthumper
Sadly, the unicorn makes its Toughness save. Grimalkin: 24, Unharmed, 2 HP Gabriel: 19, Unharmed, 2 HP Nick Cimitiere: 16, Unharmed, 2 HP Unicorn: 15, Unharmed, Mounted, 0 HP Jack of All Blades: 14, Unharmed, Riding the Unicorn, 6 HP Gabriel is up next. KnightDisciple
Free Action, switch array to Blast. Using All-Out Attack for -2 Defense, +2 Attack. Using Power Attck, for -2 Attack, +2 Damage. So Attack stays at 12 for ranged, and Toughness DC becomes 29. You have got to be kidding me. Hero Point Re-Roll. Attack 16, adjusted to 26. That hits, barely, so... Toughness Save DC 29. Eat sonic energy, unicorn! Link to comment
trollthumper
First, let's check for Concealment... nope, we're good. As for the Toughness save, it takes a Bruise. Grimalkin: 24, Unharmed, 2 HP Gabriel: 19, Unharmed, 2 HP Nick Cimitiere: 16, Unharmed, 2 HP Unicorn: 15, Bruised x1, Mounted, 0 HP Jack of All Blades: 14, Unharmed, Riding the Unicorn, 6 HP Nick's turn, and he's unleashing another burst of Ignis Fatuus. Which doesn't work. Hero Point! Yeah, that's better. Now we check Concealment... and Unicorn's out in the open. That's a DC22 Will save... ...I f***ing hate unicorns. Grimalkin: 24, Unharmed, 2 HP Gabriel: 19, Unharmed, 2 HP Nick Cimitiere: 16, Unharmed, 1 HP Unicorn: 15, Bruised x1, Mounted, 0 HP Jack of All Blades: 14, Unharmed, Riding the Unicorn, 6 HP So, it's the Unicorn's turn. It decides to do something about the jackass riding on his back, rolling a 13 on a Strength check to try and throw Jack off. I'll need a Dex roll (or Ride) from Jack. Jack is up next. Also, I'd like Knowledge (arcane lore) rolls from those who've got 'em -- or, alternatively, Knowledge (theology and philosophy) (which may be the best fit for this one). Nick gets a 20 on his Arcane Lore check. Link to comment
Gizmo
Ride check vs. DC 13. (1d20+10=18) Knowledge (arcane lore), Knowledge (theology and philosophy) (1d20=17, 1d20=19) Move Action: Auto-DC 36 Feint w/Skill Mastery and Fast Talk. Standard Action: Energy Blade Flurry, Power Attack 5. (1d20+15=30) Link to comment
trollthumper
Okay, there is really no way the unicorn can't fall for that, so it's caught Flat-Footed. The attack hits -- well, it would've hit anyway -- and versus a unicorn with an effective Defense of 14, with Autofire 3... that'll bring the Toughness save up to DC 40. Start praying, pony. ...and somewhere, an eight year old girl is crying. As this was nowhere near the main combat for the thread, I'm letting the unicorn go back to its stable now. Link to comment
KnightDisciple
Twas an evil pony. Gabriel can sing a song to make them feel better, if they need it. Anyways. Knowledge: Arcane Lore: 18 Knowledge: Theology and Philosophy: 20 Link to comment
trollthumper
We're just waiting on Knowledge (arcane lore) and/or Knowledge (theology and philosophy) rolls from Grim. Link to comment
Heritage
Oops, my bad! Knowledge: Arcane Lore: 1d20+6=26 I guess it makes sense she would have read up lots on Fae-related stuff. Link to comment
trollthumper
All right, here's what Gabriel knows: The Lady of Beautiful Torment, in addition to sounding exactly like the kind of thing a cruel faerie might call themselves, sounds a fair bit like "La Belle Dame Sans Merci." The "Belle Dame" of that poem was a faerie woman who lured in a knight with her beauty, then cursed him to remain affixed to a mound for centuries. And here's what Grim knows: The Lady of Beautiful Torment is whispered about as one of the higher-ranking members of the Unseelie Court, a close confidant to the Queen of Air and Darkness. Her specialties are manipulation, broken hearts, sundered strength, and high-class emotion knots. But she usually spends most of her time in Faerie, as while the Queen of Air and Darkness respects her as a confidant, she keeps her under house arrest to ensure she doesn't stab the Queen in the back. trollthumper
And now, Search checks. Nick gets a 19. Link to comment
Heritage
Search check for Grim: 1d20+16=20 Ah, I was due for a crappy roll! I would have been better off going with Skill Mastery. I'll use an HP for a reroll, if only because these checks seem to reveal very useful information in this thread. Reroll! 1d20+16+10=28 Link to comment
KnightDisciple
A search check? Gabriel's natural enemy! 13; that roll would have been better had I ranks. Oh well. Link to comment
Gizmo
Search Check. (1d20=17) Ranks, shmanks! Link to comment
trollthumper
All right, here's what those who got over 15 noticed: There's a fine trail of dust near the portal to Faerie that looks like it's been disturbed and sifted quite a few times. While the unicorn's hoofprints stand out, there are no fresh humanoid footprints leading in. And here's what Grimalkin noticed: A piece of paper sticks out on the book on the ground. The book is actually a diary, listing the addresses of four other women - April, June, July, and Summer. Each one has a check mark next to theirs, as well as a symbol - a sword, a key, a bridge, a shield, and a mirror. The only one whose name isn't marked off is Summer's, who has the bridge next to hers. Her address is a little townhouse just three blocks down from the warehouse. Link to comment
