trollthumper Posted May 16, 2011 Author Posted May 16, 2011 And Nick uses Deny the Reaper on Grimalkin. That's probably an auto-success, as she gets to make an instant recovery check at +7, taking her CON check modifier up to +11.
trollthumper Posted May 16, 2011 Author Posted May 16, 2011 Time for fighting! For this combat, we'll be using AA's Vampire template, with the following adjustments: -Caps are adjusted to reflect PL14. This means Strength becomes 34 (for a +12 Unarmed), Attack becomes +10 (+12 Melee, +16 Unarmed), Defense becomes +16 (+5 Flat-Footed), Grapple becomes +20, Toughness becomes +12, Ref and Will become +11, and Protection and the powers in the Vampire Array shift to hit caps. -Speaking of that Vampire Array, Insubstantial 2 is stripped out in favor of Confuse 10. -And if you see "Silver/Wood" on the list of Vulnerabilities and Weaknesses, swap out for "Iron." Now for Initiative! The Sidhe go on 21, 17, 15, 9, and 7. Nick also goes on 9.
KnightDisciple Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 It'd be nice if Gabriel, being the impulsive one, went near the front of- 10? *Unprintable Words*
Heritage Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Grim's Initiative! 1d20+12=31 Okay, now she's just showing off.
trollthumper Posted May 17, 2011 Author Posted May 17, 2011 Yup. And here we go: Grimalkin: 31, Unharmed, 1 HP Jack of All Blades: 23, Unharmed, 6 HP Leanansidhe 3: 21, Unharmed, 0 HP Leanansidhe 1: 17, Unharmed, 0 HP Leanansidhe 2: 15, Unharmed, 0 HP Gabriel: 10, Unharmed, 2 HP Nick Cimitiere: 9, Unharmed, 1 HP Leanansidhe 5: 9, Unharmed, 0 HP Leanansidhe 4: 7, Unharmed, 0 HP Grim is up first.
Gizmo Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Are there any particularly interesting energy sources on hand, or shall Jack just fall back on his old standbys?
trollthumper Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 There's electricity in the walls, and the weird "cotton candy, hot peppers and lightning" feel of glamour that comes with fae magic hanging in the air like perfume. Other than that, not much other energy.
KnightDisciple Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 And, I guess, all the sonic energy humming off of Gabriel. Not sure how wellJack could pick it up, though.
trollthumper Posted May 18, 2011 Author Posted May 18, 2011 Oh. Right. If we're going that route, there's also a nice font of necromancy in Nick.
Gizmo Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Groovy. For the sake of argument, Jack uses the EM spectrum and magic, so the vibrations coming from Gabe probably wouldn't do it, and while the issue of whether divinity counts as magic is up for some debate, since he's a regular mutant who was just jump started by unusual means, he likely doesn't count. The more you know!
Gizmo Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Jack of all Blades Move Action: Run at the nearest Leanansidhe. Standard Action: Energy Blade Flurry. (1d20+20=26) Yikes! Let me know if that even hits. EDIT: Okay, actually using the default Energy Blade setting instead, as per chat. That should be DC 17 for the Drain Toughness (they'll be using Reflex, I believe) and DC 25 for the Toughness Save.
trollthumper Posted May 19, 2011 Author Posted May 19, 2011 All right. Leanansidhe 1 manages to just dodge the corrosive blade, and gets Stunned from the onslaught. Grimalkin: 31, Unharmed, 1 HP Jack of All Blades: 23, Unharmed, 6 HP Leanansidhe 3: 21, Unharmed, 0 HP Leanansidhe 1: 17, Bruised x1, Stunned (Jack's Action), 0 HP Leanansidhe 2: 15, Unharmed, 0 HP Gabriel: 10, Unharmed, 2 HP Nick Cimitiere: 9, Unharmed, 1 HP Leanansidhe 5: 9, Unharmed, 0 HP Leanansidhe 4: 7, Unharmed, 0 HP Leanansidhe 3 gets angry at the wrecking of the glamour, tries to strike at whoever's in the shadows. She makes the Concealment roll, and manages to strike Grim. That will be a DC27 Toughness save from Grim. Leanansidhe 1 is Stunned and doing absolutely nothing. Leanansidhe 2 decides to get her hands on Jack with a Grapple. She does not even hit him. Gabriel is up next. EDIT: Realized I was doing it wrong. Fixing it now.
KnightDisciple Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Right then. Because I'm feeling like mixing it up a little bit... Free Action: Shift Sonic Control Array to Emotion Control, choosing Despair. Move Action: Skim in and to one side with Flight 1, so others can move into room as necessary. Standard Action: Hit Leanansidhe 5 With EC:D. DC 22 Will Save. Extra Effort: Another Standard Action Standard Action: Hit Leanansidhe 4 With EC:D. DC 22 Will Save.
trollthumper Posted May 19, 2011 Author Posted May 19, 2011 Leanansidhe 5 gets Shaken, as does Leanansidhe 4. Grimalkin: 31, Unharmed, 1 HP Jack of All Blades: 23, Unharmed, 6 HP Leanansidhe 3: 21, Unharmed, 0 HP Leanansidhe 1: 17, Bruised x1, Stunned (Jack's Action), 0 HP Leanansidhe 2: 15, Unharmed, 0 HP Gabriel: 10, Unharmed, 2 HP Nick Cimitiere: 9, Unharmed, 1 HP Leanansidhe 5: 9, Unharmed, Shaken, 0 HP Leanansidhe 4: 7, Unharmed, Shaken, 0 HP It's now Nick's turn. He's going to do what he does best in a group situation -- Poltergeist's Rage! This will probably not work, but when it does, it really does. That's a DC15 Reflex save, followed by an Opposed Grapple check. Four of the leanansidhe make their Reflex saves, meaning Nick's effectively rolling a +15 Grapple (rather than a +17) against them. Nick rolls a 34 (32 against the four who made the save). Let's see how they did. Leanansidhe 1 and 2 aren't Shaken and made their saves, so they get the straight +20. Leanansidhe 3 didn't make her save, but still gets the full +20. 2 and 3 make it, but Leanansidhe 1 fails the save by 7, so she's Bound. Now for Leanansidhe 4 and 5, who get a +18 due to their Shaken condition and roll versus a 32. They get a 22 each. ...told you it might work. Grimalkin: 31, Unharmed, 1 HP Jack of All Blades: 23, Unharmed, 6 HP Leanansidhe 3: 21, Unharmed, Helpless, 0 HP Leanansidhe 1: 17, Bruised x1, Stunned (Jack's Action), 0 HP Leanansidhe 2: 15, Unharmed, 0 HP Gabriel: 10, Unharmed, 2 HP Nick Cimitiere: 9, Unharmed, 1 HP Leanansidhe 5: 9, Unharmed, Shaken, Helpless, 0 HP Leanansidhe 4: 7, Unharmed, Shaken, Helpless, 0 HP Leanansidhe 5 and 4 quickly set about trying to correct that. Leanansidhe 5 attempts to break the Grapple. She makes a 27 versus Nick's 28, so she's Pinned but still Grappled. Leanansidhe 4 doesn't even bother with that and just hits Nick with Confuse. Nick fails the DC20 Will save this round, so let's see what he's doing next round. That's a 4, so he acts normally. Good job faerie girl. Grimalkin: 31, Unharmed, 1 HP Jack of All Blades: 23, Unharmed, 6 HP Leanansidhe 3: 21, Unharmed, Helpless, 0 HP Leanansidhe 1: 17, Bruised x1, Stunned (Jack's Action), 0 HP Leanansidhe 2: 15, Unharmed, 0 HP Gabriel: 10, Unharmed, 2 HP Nick Cimitiere: 9, Unharmed, Confused, 1 HP Leanansidhe 5: 9, Unharmed, Shaken, Pinned, 0 HP Leanansidhe 4: 7, Unharmed, Shaken, Helpless, 0 HP Grimalkin is up next. A reminder -- if they're Helpless, they're got an effective Defense of 5, melee attacks against them get a +4, and you can coup-de-grace them, auto-critting on an attack.
Gizmo Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 It sounds like Heritage is going to leave Grim stunned, so here's a bunch of rolls for Jack when you get a chance, troll, using Jack's Takedown Attack 2. Just let me know how it goes! Energy Blade Flurry, Power Attack 5 vs. Leanansidhe 3. (1d20+15=25) She's Helpless, so that's actually a 29, and it should be DC 15 + 10 + 5 Power Attack + 7 Autofire = 37. Energy Blade Flurry, Power Attack 5 vs. Leanansidhe 4. (1d20+15=30) Same thing, DC 37. Energy Blade Flurry, Power Attack 5 vs. Leanansidhe 1. (1d20+15=24) Boo. Energy Blade Flurry, Power Attack 5 vs. Leanansidhe 1, HP reroll. (1d20+15=19) That becomes 29, so DC 33. Energy Blade Flurry, Power Attack 5 vs. Leanansidhe 5. (1d20+15=26) She's pinned, so I'm going to assume that's DC 37 again. Energy Blade Flurry, Power Attack 5 vs. Leanansidhe 2. (1d20+15=16) Wut. Well, probably won't get that far anyway. Let me know how that goes, keeping in mind he still has a Move Action and potentially a Surge to use, depending.
Heritage Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Yes, Grim will be taking the Stun, as will be seen in my post tomorrow morning. Er, later today.
trollthumper Posted May 19, 2011 Author Posted May 19, 2011 All right, then, Grim takes the Stun. Grimalkin: 31, Bruised x1, Stunned (Leanansidhe 3's Action), 1 HP Jack of All Blades: 23, Unharmed, 6 HP Leanansidhe 3: 21, Unharmed, Helpless, 0 HP Leanansidhe 1: 17, Bruised x1, Stunned (Jack's Action), 0 HP Leanansidhe 2: 15, Unharmed, 0 HP Gabriel: 10, Unharmed, 2 HP Nick Cimitiere: 9, Unharmed, Confused, 1 HP Leanansidhe 5: 9, Unharmed, Shaken, Pinned, 0 HP Leanansidhe 4: 7, Unharmed, Shaken, Helpless, 0 HP So, onto Jack. Jack does indeed strike Leanansidhe 3. Can she make it? ...nnnnnnnope. She's down, which means it's on to Leanansidhe 4. She gets Stunned and Staggered, but does not fall. Grimalkin: 31, Bruised x1, 1 HP Jack of All Blades: 23, Unharmed, 6 HP Leanansidhe 1: 17, Bruised x1, 0 HP Leanansidhe 2: 15, Unharmed, 0 HP Gabriel: 10, Unharmed, 2 HP Nick Cimitiere: 9, Unharmed, Confused, 1 HP Leanansidhe 5: 9, Unharmed, Shaken, Pinned, 0 HP Leanansidhe 4: 7, Unharmed, Stunned (Jack's Action), Staggered, Shaken, Helpless, 0 HP Leanansidhe 1's shaken her Stun off by now, so she tries to wrap her arms around Jack. And fails. So her sister decides to punch Nick in an attempt to get him to break the TK Grapple. She manages to hit him, necessitating a DC27 Toughness save. Ouch. Hero Point! ...well, at least that's a 23 this time. Nick takes a Bruise. Grimalkin: 31, Bruised x1, 1 HP Jack of All Blades: 23, Unharmed, 6 HP Leanansidhe 1: 17, Bruised x1, 0 HP Leanansidhe 2: 15, Unharmed, 0 HP Gabriel: 10, Unharmed, 2 HP Nick Cimitiere: 9, Bruised x1, Confused, 0 HP Leanansidhe 5: 9, Unharmed, Shaken, Pinned, 0 HP Leanansidhe 4: 7, Unharmed, Stunned (Jack's Action), Staggered, Shaken, Helpless, 0 HP Gabriel is up next.
Gizmo Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Well, hold up, Jack's going to spend 2 HP, one to Surge for a Standard Action, and the other to Inspire 5 the others. That may effect Nick's Toughness roll.
trollthumper Posted May 19, 2011 Author Posted May 19, 2011 Indeed it does! Nick's Toughness save would then be 18, which would leave him Bruised and Stunned instead of Stunned and Staggered. So I'm still spending the HP on reroll, which would bring the second save up to 28, which means Nick takes no Bruise. So, redone: Grimalkin: 31, Bruised x1, Inspired +5, 1 HP Jack of All Blades: 23, Unharmed, 4 HP Leanansidhe 1: 17, Bruised x1, 0 HP Leanansidhe 2: 15, Unharmed, 0 HP Gabriel: 10, Unharmed, Inspired +5, 2 HP Nick Cimitiere: 9, Unharmed, Confused, Inspired +5, 0 HP Leanansidhe 5: 9, Unharmed, Shaken, Pinned, 0 HP Leanansidhe 4: 7, Unharmed, Stunned (Jack's Action), Staggered, Shaken, Helpless, 0 HP Once more, Gabriel is up next.
Heritage Posted May 19, 2011 Posted May 19, 2011 Did a quick post for Grim, with little birdies circling her head. :D
KnightDisciple Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 Hm. Think I'll switch Gabriel to Drain Toughness. Also, using an HP to negate the Fatigue from Extra Effort. Free Action: Switch Array to Drain Toughness Now, having read Power Attack again, it looks like it can boost the Save DC of my Drain Toughness, as that power still has both an Attack Roll and a Save. So, with that said... Free Action: All Out Attack for -2 Defense, +2 Attack. Current Attack Bonus with Ranged, 19. Defense 10. Free Action: Power Attack for -2 Attack, +2 Save DC. Current Attack Bonus with Ranged, 17. Drain Toughness Fortitude Save DC 24. Standard Action: Fire at...Leanansidhe 5. I'd wager a 30 hits. DC 24 Fortitude save for Rank 12 Drain Toughness. Extra Effort: Second Standard Action. Standard Action: Fire at...Leanansidhe 1 And 35 likely hits quite well. DC 24 Fortitude save for Rank 12 Drain Toughness.
trollthumper Posted May 20, 2011 Author Posted May 20, 2011 Yup, both times will hit. Let's see how the ladies do. Leanansidhe 5 does fine, but Leanansidhe 1 gets Drained but good. Grimalkin: 31, Bruised x1, Inspired +5, 1 HP Jack of All Blades: 23, Unharmed, 4 HP Leanansidhe 1: 17, Bruised x1, Toughness Drained -12, 0 HP Leanansidhe 2: 15, Unharmed, 0 HP Gabriel: 10, Unharmed, Inspired +5, 1 HP Nick Cimitiere: 9, Unharmed, Confused, Inspired +5, 0 HP Leanansidhe 5: 9, Unharmed, Shaken, Pinned, 0 HP Leanansidhe 4: 7, Unharmed, Stunned (Jack's Action), Staggered, Shaken, Helpless, 0 HP Before we go to Nick, it's time for Leanansidhe 4 and 5 to reroll their Will against Emotion Control. And as Gabe didn't dedicate a Free Action to maintaining control, they get the +1. So, let's see how they do... 4 manages to throw it off, but 5 is still licked. So, onto Nick. Free Action: Maintain the grapple. He rolls... a 26. Buggery. Let's see how the scary fae ladies do... 35 and 22. So Leanansidhe 5 is still Helpless, but Leanansidhe 4 is up and about. Free ACtion: Power Attack for -5 Attack/+5 Damage. Standard Action: Throw Leanansidhe 5 at Leanansidhe 1. That will end the grapple, but I'm effectively hurling her with a +17, so let's see how this goes. It goes pretty well. Both parties make a DC25 Toughness save. Oh, that's gonna smart. Leanansidhe 1 goes down. Leanansidhe 5 gets Bruised and Stunned. And let's see if Nick shakes off that Confuse. Oh, well, can't win 'em all. Let's see what Nick's doing next turn... Fleeing at the topmost speed. Ah, well, can't win 'em all. Grimalkin: 31, Bruised x1, Inspired +5, 1 HP Jack of All Blades: 23, Unharmed, 4 HP Leanansidhe 2: 15, Unharmed, 0 HP Gabriel: 10, Unharmed, Inspired +5, 1 HP Nick Cimitiere: 9, Unharmed, Confused, Inspired +5, 0 HP Leanansidhe 5: 9, Bruised x1, Stunned (Nick's Action), Shaken, 0 HP Leanansidhe 4: 7, Unharmed, Stunned (Jack's Action), Staggered, 0 HP So both those leanansidhe are Stunned off their butts, so it goes back to Grim's turn.
