And was in a high school for supers? Alternate Identities: Caresse Brown Identity: Secret Birthplace: Austin, Texas Occupation: High School Student Affiliations: Claremont Academy Family: Janice Brown (mother) Age: 16 (DoB: July 1995) Apparent Age: (if applicable) Gender: Female Ethnicity: African-American Height: 5'10" Weight: 160 lbs Eyes: Brown Hair: Black Description: Caresse is a very tall girl with a lithe figure. There is some muscle behind it, enough to fill her out into an athletic build. Her skin is a darker shade of brown, a light chocolate color. Her hair is long enough that she keeps it in short pony tail most of the time. Her clothing consists of darker colors, namely the dark blue end of the spectrum. She loves wearing long shorts and tanktops. The costume looks like a solid dark blue seamless bodysuit that covers her entire body up to her neck, barring her hands. Instead, her hands have black fingerless gloves covering and protecting them, while maintaining manual dexterity with her sword. Despite its seamless appearance, she can take it off and on with a quick pull thanks to the morphic molecules that compose the outfit. While her feet are already covered by the costume, she wears a pair of heavy-duty combat boots over them to both add variety to her look, and give extra protection to her feet. Power Descriptions: Her costume protects her from harm due to the science of the morphic molecules. Her sword is a simple unadorned katana with a sheath. She can project emotions on to others and sense everything around her due to the terminus energy infecting her birth. This is amplified emotion. Happiness is straight euphoria. Fear and despair are not pretty sights to look upon. Her projecting emotions is signified by color. Calm is white. Despair is black. Happiness is purple. Hope is Blue. Fear is yellow. Hate is red. She can turn off the colors if she wishes, which she does most of the time. Her sensing everything around her isn't really noticeable at all except to her. History: This was the first try, it was not so original :? Janice Brown, like everyone who lived in Freedom City in 1993, was subject to Terminus energy. After all was said and done, she thought she was fine. She didn't have any ill effects. In fact, that would be the year everything turned up roses for her. She became an associate with Hartford, Grayson & Cole (the largest firm in Freedom City), bought herself a nice little place by the water in Port Regal, and through the fire of the Terminus Invasion, thought she had found her soulmate. The man, Peter Thomas, she had met was a total sponge, but she only saw the good in him. It would be a year later before she saw his true colors. She told him they were pregnant. Peter denied everything and left her high and dry. They weren't married so he didn't have to do anything. Janice was crushed. She stayed for a bit, enough to get the man to pay child support for the baby he didn't want. She took some vacation time and went to her familial home in Texas for a while to tell her family the badgood news. Eventually they convinced her to stay there until the baby was born, and then to stay home to raise the child. She had to give up her nice job and her nice home for what she thought was the best for her and her baby. Nine months later, Caresse was born. Caresse was a very tall child, which lead to much ridicule. On top of that she was not the most social of butterflies and had very few friends. As a young girl, people found it awkward that she was into more "boyish things". She loved physical activity and action movies. Of those, she loved samurai movies the most. They were like the superheroes she saw in the news so much. It was one of her childhood dreams, inasmuch that other children wanted to be princesses or horses, to become a samurai. On her eighth birthday, her mother signed her up for kendo and iaido lessons. She learned about swordsmanship and the touted honor of the samurai from her teachers. Even though she was an awkward bug, she was still amongst people with the same interest and made some friends. Friends she would keep for seemingly a long time. Especially one boy, Brett Johnson, that stuck with her though thick and thin. eventually their long term friendship would turn to dating. Both loved each other very much. So much that they though they were going to be together forever. On her sixteenth birthday, Brett gave Caresse a promise ring. They would be engaged and married one day. That night, unknown to anyone but them, they gave themselves to each other. It was in the heat of passion that Caresse's Terminus birth showed through. After a while the contact with Caresse began to seep into his mind and a few moments later it began to show as the boy cracked, curled up into a ball yelling gibberish. She tried to calm him, but when she touched him he ran from her is incoherent terror. She didn't know what had happened. She tried to call him, but he didn't answer. When she did hear from him again in the morning it was an angry diatribe to never touch him again. Caresse was crushed. Caresse told her mother the whole story. Janice tried to console her daughter. But when she touched Caresse, Janice felt a great welling sadness building up in her that she could not shake. Janice knew what was happening. Her exposure to the Terminus energy was coming back... through her child. The next day, Caresse had to face school. Everyone knew what had happened. Brett, still reeling from the assault on his mind, had told everyone and everyone. and it had gotten on to social networking. There was something wrong with Caresse. Everyone avoided her like the plague. Finally, one loud mouth know it all spilled the whole story to her. That she was a mutant with bad powers and that if she didn't leave that they were going to call the Freedom League on her. Caresse was shocked the point of tears. She rushed home. Her mother told her there were people that could help. Caresse begrudgingly accepted. Her mother booked her a private flight to Freedom Cit into the Albright Institute. They performed tests on her and basically told her what she knew. Oh, they put a name on it "terminus energy", but that did not ease her. It was like being infected with "nazi rays" to her. The Albright Institute gave her a suit and also set her up with Claremont Academy. They would help her get control of her powers. Janice Brown was born during the Terminus Invasion in 1965. She was infected with Terminus energy in utero, though she came out healthy and devoid of any mutations. Thus, no one noticed Janice was infected. Her parents, having lost most of their life's work, had to move away from Freedom City. They settled in Austin, Texas, secure in the thought that nothing would ever bother them there. Janice eventually returned to Freedom City to finish law school. Afterwards, she eventually found herself an associate with Hartford, Grayson & Cole (the largest firm in Freedom City). She bought a nice place in Port Regal near the water. Though it was a shaky year in 1993. Even though the second Terminus Invasion ended semi-tragically for the world, she found a man who she thought would be her soulmate for the rest of her life. Though it was not meant to be. Peter Thomas was a good, upstanding man in Janice's eyes, but she just didn't happen to see his most glaring flaw. He was a total sponge. It would be a while before she saw his true colors. A year later she told him that they were pregnant. Peter was nervous, but he accepted the responsibility of being a father, that was until he found out an inconvenient truth. After some routine blood work, Janice's tests came back positive for Terminus energy. That was the last straw for Peter. He left her high and dry. They weren't married so he didn't have to do anything. Janice was crushed. She stayed for a bit, enough to get the man to pay child support for the baby he didn't want. She took some vacation time and went to her familial home in Texas for a while to tell her family the badgood news. Even though she was an awkward bug, she was still amongst people with the same interest and made some friends. Friends she would keep for seemingly a long time. The first time her powers manifested, she was with her friends. It was the last few days of her sophomore year. They were sitting outside, waiting for school to start and then she felt this kind of... nirvana, a feeling of all feelings. Not only that, she began to glow a white aura. And everyone noticed. Everyone who saw it gathered around. She then felt a steady calm, looking to her onlookers. And then a warm happiness washed over her, turning her aura purple. When someone reached out to touch her, they were happy too. But it was magnified ten times as much! The guy was absolutely euphoric. All were awed by Caresse's new powers. Then she got more friends than she could ever dream of. Suddenly everyone was talking about the girl with strange powers. She eventually learned how to turn off the color show, but she could turn it on if she wanted. When Caresse told and showed her mother, Janice was outwardly happy for her daughter, but worrie for her. Janice told her the story of her birth. She left out the part of her father leaving because of it. Caresse never knew her father and never seemed to care about the subject. Her mother was glad she never had to drop that bomb. Later on, she Caresse told one of her friends about her "Terminus birth". The story spread around school like a wildfire. Most people didn't care, but others that knew the severity of the term watched her. Like all good things, they have to come to an end. Caresse was at a party with some friends. Someone asked her to show off her powers. She began to glow again, it was white like the first time, then purple. Someone asked if she could do the "happy trick". She blushed at the thought that she could make someone happy on command. She told them it was not something she gave freely. She reached for her boyfriend's hand and he pulled her closer seemingly euphoric he was and kissed her. Though some wiseass thought it would be funny to sneak up behind her and drop an ice cube down her back. When the joker did, Caresse's aura turned bright yellow. Both the prankster and her boyfriend shrieked in terror, falling to the floor in a fetal state! Caresse was shocked and her aura grew even brighter. Several cameras snapped pictures of the incident causing Caresse to get scared and then her aura turned a horrible black color. She tried to run away, but people tried to stop her. Everone that touched her dropped to the floor in a sobbing mass, instantly. She hopped on her motorcycle and went back home to her mom, making sure not to touch her and telling her the story of what happened. Her mother had been preparing for this. She said it would take a couple of days, but she could get her to a specialist. Unfortunately that meant she had to face the aftermath of what happened. The next day was the day before the last day of school and she had to face what had happened with her peers. Most people avoided her like the plague. There were vicious rumor circulating about what happened at the party. Some said she was a mad villain. Some were scared of her others were angered by her. Hateful words were spat at her. But no one got near her. It was horrible. She just wanted this day to end. When she got home she was in luck, her mother said she could leave that afternoon. She was so happy and sad at the same time. She couldn't embrace her mother for the joy she had in her and it ate inside her. By nightfall Caresse was in Freedom City and the Albright Institute. They ran tests on her and even gave her a spiffy suit. But they couldn't find anyway to control it or turn it off. The only thing Dr. Albright could think of was to send her to Claremont Academy. She was ready for anything, just to keep her emotions and powers in check. Personality & Motivation: Caresse was a quiet girl before the changes in her body. While she is finding herself opening up more, she is reluctant to touch anyone or have anyone touch her. She saw crazy things happen when someone did and she'd rather not relive that moment in her life too much. Other than that, she's a nice girl. Most people are thrown off by her size, but she tries to alieve that if she can. Powers & Tactics: She won't use her Emotion Control offensively unless she absolutely needs to. She'll first try to talk the opposition out of the fight. If that doesn't work she will use her years of sword training to incapacitate, though not harm the opponent. And if it comes down to it, she will protect emotions on to someone if they need stopping. She is a front line fighter none-the-less. It's the only style she knows and does not shy away from that. Complications: Can't turn it off: while she can control what emotion she projects (some of the time) she cannot stop projecting them. Touching her will either subject the toucher to the emotion she's currently feeling or projecting. Stress: She is going through a tough time in her life. The whole thing about not being able to touch someone without messing with their mind weighs heavily on her. Terminus Baby: They're not liked by many folks. Minor: She goes to school and still has to answer to and obey her elders. Secret: Claremont is a secret school in some regards. Something she has to keep! Secret: In this new town, very few people know that Caresse is Lotus. She would like to keep it that way.
