Eviscerus Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 Player Name: Eviscerus Character Name: Yeti Power Level: 10 (150/150PP) Trade-Offs: -3 Attack +3 Damage, -3 Defense +3 Toughness Unspent Power Points:0 Progress To Bronze Status: 0/30 In Brief: Poor redneck with a heart of gold, that swept floors for the wrong company. Resembles a certain horrific legendary monster. Alternate Identity: Enoch "Scooter" Talbot Identity: Yeti Birthplace: Claude, Texas USA Occupation: Custodial Engineer Affiliations: Claremont Academy Family: None Description: These days Scooter resembles a true monstrosity. Standing over 9 feet tall and coming in at just over half a ton, Yeti is a thick muscled, ball of white fur, that covers the back half of his body, while the front is mostly smooth. His skin does have a decidedly blue hue to it, much as someone in the early stages of frostbite. Yeti's eyes are a bright, almost golden yellow, that are mostly shadowed by a prominent brow. Yeti walks with a stoop, from trying to fit into doorways and in halls, and his overly long arms, ending in clawed hands, almost drag the floor. Yeti is often seen in the orange coveralls he wears to work, as it is almost impossible to find clothes to fit him that are not custom made (which on a janitor's salary is not easy to afford). This outfit doubles as his costume, but for leisure activities he has been known to wear a pair of blue jeans and a black t-shirt. When the occasion calls for formal dress, he owns only one suit, a black pinstripe number with white shirt, red tie, and a black fedora. Age: 24 (DoB: 1986 [Optionally, Day & Month]) Apparent Age: Hard to tell under all that fur and fangs Gender: Male Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 9'3" Weight:1300 lbs Eyes: Yellow Hair: White (Describe what they look like!) Power Descriptions: History: Scooter Talbot was born in the smallest of towns: Claude, Texas. Claude doesn't sport much of what one would consider amenities common to the modern age. There is no Pizza Hut, no public park, no mall, and no public transportation system. Claude is the kind of town where everyone waves to everyone, and there are more antique stores per capita than restaurants. It is in such a friendly environment that Scooter was raised. From the day he was born Scooter did nothing but laugh, smile, and love his family. In a world where people were praised for cynicism and sarcasm, Scooter somehow found the inner tranquility to be friendly to all, and never utter a foul sentiment for his fellow man. Scooter's life was not without tragedy, however. On the eve of his 22nd birthday, Scooter's entire family was killed when the RV they were traveling in was impacted head on by an 18-wheeler, whose driver had fallen asleep at the wheel. Scooter was the only survivor. Scooter tried to continue with his life, but every corner he turned in his hometown brought him face to face the ghost of his family's memory. And so it was that Scooter headed north, to Freedom City, to start a new life. Settling into a small studio apartment in Freedom City's Midtown area, Scooter sought employment with a nearby pharmaceutical company owned by Grant Conglomerates. Little did he know that the pharmaceutical lab he was to be janitor of was a secret testing sight for the DNAscent project, and the only reason he was chosen for the job was due to his perfect health examination and lack of social and familial ties. In essence, he was the perfect guiney pig. It wasn't long after Scooter started his new job that he was drugged and imprisoned for experimentation. Scooter stayed a captive for months before the experiments began, and in that time, he'd been able to talk a fellow prisoner into giving him his secret stash of the strength boosting drug Max. When Scooter's time finally came, he took the drug and attempted to escape, but was overpowered by guards. When the DNAscent process mixed with the drug that was already in his system, the side effects were much more than the researchers were ready for. Scooter grew to just over nine feet tall, sprouted coarse, thick white fur, and grew enough muscle to burst through his pathetic restraints. In a terrified, drug addled rage, Scooter knocked down the walls of the laboratory and escaped his confinement, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. Scooter soon came out of his drugged, semi-lucid state to find himself in an alley near his home. Not knowing who to turn to, he wrapped himself in rags a homeless man was kind enough to lend him and hustled back to his apartment. For the next several days his body was wracked with agonizing pain as the final stages of the DNAscent process augmented his body. When he was finally feeling halfway normal, Scooter discovered that he could see perfectly in the dark as well as smell things in far greater detail, he used this newfound gift to track down the homeless man who was kind to him. When Scooter happened upon the man, he found him being accosted by thugs, hyped up on Zoom and Max. In a sudden outburst of rage that Scooter had never known before, he roared and charged the thugs, knocking two of the biggest out while scattering the others to the wind. When the rage passed, Scooter realized that the mutations had also instilled in him some primal tendencies. Scooter vowed to control these animalistic urges and to put his powers to good use, as so many others did throughout Freedom City. Scooter soon found, however, that being a crime fighter doesn't pay the bills very well, and seeing as he was a hulking monstrosity, he had no idea what to do about a normal job. One day while on patrol, however, Scooter noticed a school full of strange and gifted teens, none of them looked at him like he was some kind of freak, and so he decided to apply for a janitorial position at Claremont Academy. Personality & Motivation: Yeti is one of the kindest, and most amiable people one would ever meet. He is always upbeat and doesn't let his appearance or his situation get him down. One thing Scooter hopes to do is find out both who is behind the DNAscent project (he doesn't know it by that name, he just calls it "those awful people that changed me", as well as find a way to rid the entire city of the infernal Zoom and Max drugs. Yeti feels that these things are dangerous, and the reason why he was given these powers is to make sure that the evil scientists that are responsible for every aspect of his transformation get their come uppance! Powers & Tactics: Yeti is a straight-forward brawler. He has no finesse, and even less practical training. This does not stop him, however, from using guile, as he has been known to pull off some interesting moves. When coming upon a foe he has not faced before, he doesn't throw all his strength into every punch. Scooter only had to go through about three doors and walls before he learned that his strength could be devastating. So he'll lead in with accurate attacks first, and if the situation calls for it, he'll go to town. Sometimes, Scooter will wake up and find his bed, wall, or some other part of his house frozen in ice. He believes that his powers are not done evolving, and he will one day learn mastery over ice and snow. Complications: Appearance: Yeti is a monstrous, horrifying thing to behold, and most people react accordingly. This can throw Yeti into spirals of depression, as his social and jovial personality suffer from his looks. Just a small town boy: Yeti is from the south... and it shows! His thick southern drawl sometimes causes those around him to believe that he is stupid, or simple. This is not the case, however, so Scooter is quite aware of the jibes people sometimes toss his way. Animalistic tendencies: Due to the splicing of his genes, Yeti has picked up some less than civilised instincts. He has been known to have a slight temper when someone is hurting a fellow human being, or when seeing drug abuse, or when being mocked for his looks/size. His instincts and his humanity are constantly at war, and so he is quite clumsy, both in social situations, and in the more "bull in the china shop" meaning of the term. trollthumper Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Okay, first and foremost, understand the implications of playing a Ben Grimm-type character with a monstrous countenance and no alternate appearance. While this isn't the Marvel Universe, where every street-going appearance of a mutant seems to draw a lynch mob, this also isn't the Wild Cards universe, where everyone's totally gotten used to the girl with the compound eyes walking down the street with her lizard man boyfriend. The Freedomverse is used to weird sights, like any other superhero universe, but any appearance by Yeti on the street is going to draw attention, especially if he's trying to be casual or go incognito. And speaking of "appearance," there's no clear physical description for Yeti. It's posted in the Backstory, but it doesn't serve as something distinct and independent thereof, for easy reference by both the Refs and those meeting the character for the first time. Likewise, despite the fact that Yeti seems to be a nine-foot-tall white-furred Sasquatch with no Normal Identity, he still has a Secret Identity. With no family and no obvious hope of going back to normal, why not either go by his public name or abandon it altogether? Now, the mechanics. Yeti is not at cap. His Toughness and Damage are certainly at cap for the -3/+3 trade-off, but the Attack and Defense aren't. Mechanically, he's at PL9 -- which is not exactly a good place to be among the other PL10s. I understand that you're applying Growth to that, but as there's no way for him to be Medium-size, he's still effectively PL9 in his active state. Please be sure to designate Speed at Speed 5 (250 MPH/2500 ft. per Move Action) and Leaping at Leaping 3 (x10 [Running Long Jump: 230 ft.]). One cannot take Extras on a Power Feat when building Super-Strength. Super-Strength's PFs are effectively Alternate Powers built within its confines - Shockwave is effectively Damage Area Cone, Superbreath is Trip Area Cone, Groundstrike is Trip Area Explosion, and so forth. If you wish to add Knockback to a Groundstrike, build it conventionally as part of an Array rather than attaching it to a PF that it supposed to represent a pre-built AP. Enhanced Skills should be listed at Enhanced Skills 8 instead of Enhanced Skills 2, as it is effectively 0.25 PP per rank.
Eviscerus Posted September 6, 2011 Author Posted September 6, 2011 Okay, fixed the things you pointed out. I am aware of the problems he'll be facing due to his looks, and I am okay with that. As far as the question of his identity and what not, I imagine that to the world at large, he's known as Yeti. However, his friends still call him Scooter. It's not that it's a secret identity it's just that it was the name he was born with, so that's what he goes by. Like Benjamin Grimm is known as the Thing, but his friends still call him Ben don't they? So there's that. Thanks for the feedback and let me know if something else needs a changin'
Dr Archeville Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Ben Grimm wouldn't have the Secret ID Complication, so that's not exactly an apt analogy. (In fact, Grimm's got the Public ID complication -- everyone knows him, everyone knows where he lives!)
Eviscerus Posted September 6, 2011 Author Posted September 6, 2011 Doh! I didn't even see that I actually had it listed as a complication! Fixed due to the fact that I'm a moron lol
