Eviscerus
Player Name:Eviscerus Character Name: Leviathan Power Level: 7 (108/112PP) Trade-Offs: -2 Attack / +2 Damage, -2 Defense / +2 Toughness Unspent Power Points: 4 Progress To Bronze Status: 7/30 In Brief: Deep One master of the deep dark ocean. Real Name: Veijlial Anathka'Un Identity: Leviathan Birthplace: Atlantis Occupation: Outcast Affiliations: None Family: Orphaned at birth, raised by sea creatures. Description: Age: 16 (DoB: 1995 Apparent Age: looks rather young for a monster Gender: Male Ethnicity: Deep One (Half Atlantean, Half Serpent Folk) Height: 5'7" Weight: 129 lbs Eyes: Black Hair: None Veijlial is frightening to behold, his body is covered in greenish-black scales, his black eyes are pupilless, his hands are clawed, and his mouth is full of sharp teeth. He always has a dour look upon his face, and has never been seen smiling. He dresses in blue robes so dark they look black unless light is directly hitting them, and he seems to be always covered in shadows. Power Descriptions: When in combat, Veijlial draws in the darkness around him, and shadowy tentacles seemingly erupt from his body. These tentacles constantly writhe about his body, and will strike or grab foes foolish enough to get close to him. Veijlial has complete control over darkness and water through magic. He can plunge a room into blackness, or fill it with the sea. He can fire black lightning bolts at his enemies from his tentacles, ensnare foes with them, and teleport from shadow to shadow. His most terrifying spell blends the two disciplines, the tentacles reach out, grabbing a foe as a pool of dark water forms beneath them, then they are plunged into the depths of the water and covered in darkness, drowning them. This spell even terrifies Veijlial, and he is loathe to use it but sparingly and never does he hold the spell long enough to actually kill anyone. History: Veijlial was born an abomination. The child of an antlantean mother, and serpent person father. Known as a Deep One, Veijlial's kind are not accepted anywhere within Atlantean society, and due to his father's outcast status for loving his Atlantean mother and vice versa, he was not accepted into Serpent People society, as he was considered a bad omen. So it was that he was abandoned to the sea at birth. He was not alone long, however, as his wailing caught the attention of various marine life. Somehow, Veijlial had called to them, and they came to his aid. And so it was that Veijlial's adopted family would be the sea life, from whale to giant squid, to fish. Living the way he did could sustain his body, he knew, but it wouldn't sustain his mind. And so he sent out his sea bretheren to Atlantis to provide him with knowledge. Sending out his consciousness to them he was able to see and study all he wanted. He learned to speak, read, and write Atlantean, Serpent People's tongue, as well as the language of the surface dwellers. He learned all he could, from books and listening in on the local Atlanteans, but by the time he was 10 years old, he had reached an empasse. He knew he had the potential to wield great power, but he knew no way of accessing his latent magical talent. He needed a master. Veijlial knew that simply approaching the nearest atlantean and asking for guidance would be fruitless, as well as dangerous. So he observed them, finding which ones had magical talent, and which of those were most likely to be open to teaching one such as him. Veijlial found his mentor in an old, crotchedy Atlantean named Jon, who seemed both amiable and reclusive. Veijlial approached him under cover of night, so as not to be seen by the populace, and pleaded with the man for guidance. Amused, the old master accepted, seeing in Veijlial the capacity for good despite all that life had thrown at him, as well as sensing some hidden destiny, a path to greatness that Jon must set him upon. And so Veijlial was taught the ways of magic. For the next six years he lived with Jon, learning all he could, and would have continued to do so, if tragedy had not struck. One day, while preparing for lessons, a group of Serpent People, busted into Jon's house, demanding that he hand Veijlial over. They mentioned something about his destiny, and the Serpent Scepter. Jon, however, would not be giving him up. He ordered Veijlial to run, saying that he'd be fine and that he could take care of these ruffians. Veijlial obeyed, and teleported away from danger. After some time had elapsed, Veijlial thought it might be safe to go back, and so he stepped through shadows, back into Jon's house to find it a shambles, and Jon dead on the floor. Grief overtook him then, and for a time he just sat there, cradling the old man's head in his lap. Eventually Veijlial came to, and he vowed to find these Serpent People and bring them to justice for what they've done. He sent out his aquatic friends to search, and the trail led inexplicably to the surface world, to a land called Freedom City, where the fish and the whales could not go. And so Veijlial set out to go to the surface, with his small amount of belongings he made his way to Freedom City, taking up the moniker Leviathan, so as to strike fear into those who he hunts, and to any who do not respect the mysteries and powers of the ocean. Personality & Motivation: Veijlial is as one would imagine, sullen and brooding, but not naturally violent, or prone to intimidating other to get what he wants. He never says two words where one would suffice, and he tries hard to keep to himself. However, he knows that to find his master's killers and bring them to some sort of justice that he will need help. So Veijlial must grudgingly forego his policy of non-involvement and make some friends and allies. Powers & Tactics: Veijlial prefers to hang back in the shadows, teleporting from place to place and blasting his foes with black bolts of lightning. However if cornered, he will not hesitate to lash out with his tentacles, grappling foes or striking them. Only under the most dire of circumstances will he use his most powerful and terrifying spells. He has been known to use some improvisational techniques, coming up with spells on the fly to fit a certain situation. Complications: Appearance: Veijlial is not the pretties person to behold, and so people are naturally frightened of him, this can cause problems since he needs help to solve his master's murder. Sullen, Brooding, Angsty: Like most teens, Veijlial is often depressed, or angry at his lot in life. He can come off a bit dark, and unfriendly at times, and so coupled with his looks, makes it doubly hard for him to make friends. Dr Archeville
Taking a cursory look, a few problems immediately pop out: COMBAT Attack: In the Combat section you note you've spent 0pp, yet have +5 Melee and +5 Ranged listed. In your totals at the bottom, you list you've spent 10pp, which would give you a +5 on Attack. If that's the case, please mark 10pp spent in the Combat section, and you only need to list "+5" in the slot. Defense: At least 1/3rd of a char's Defense must come from 'base' Defense, so 0 Base Defense + Dodge Focus 5 is not allowed. Knockback: You should list what his KB will be without his Force Field (it'd be -1). SAVES Toughness: You should note here that his Force Field is ablative, and list what his Toughness will be without it (+3). POWERS Powers need to be listed alphabetically. Fortunately for you, I was feeling punchy, and alphabetized them for you (and fixed up a few formatting errors). Magic: Please note the range of his Teleport (900 feet/anywhere on Earth) and the effective Str/weight limits for his Water Control. Also, a note on his Teleport: the Darkness he creates with his Magic will not be allowed to count as "Shadows" for his "Medium [shadows]" Teleport; if you can create the condition you need, requiring the condition isn't a Flaw, it's a Complication at best. Also, the Suffocate power is pretty lousy for what it's supposed to do; we typically recommend a Fort Save Damage effect instead. Swimming: Please list his Swim speed. Link to comment
Eviscerus
ok, I believe I fixed all the problems you listed. Also I took your advice on changing over suffocate to a fort save damage effect. I do realize that the darkness he creates will not be useable for teleport, totally ok with that. if you see any other problems let me know. Thanks for checking! Link to comment
Ecalsneerg
One other major thing... he's a scaly fish man, yet has a Secret Identity, without Morph? How? Link to comment
Dr Archeville
Giving it a more in-depth look now... Deep Ones are accepted by Serpent Men: Serpent Men make them from captured Atlanteans (either by exposing them to the Serpent Scepter, which can turn humans into Serpent Men and Atlanteans into Deep Ones, or... the 'old-fashioned way'). Simply being a Deep One wouldn't get him kicked out of Serpent People society (though he'd find no fans in the Atlanteans); at worst Deep Ones might be treated as second-class citizens (since they're not 'true' Serpent Folk), though the books don't really say. An idea: he was shunned not because of what he was but what he represented -- the deep (and forbidden) love his (not completely corrupted & inhuman) Serpent Person father & Atlantean mother felt for one another. Why did the old Atlantean (Jon? Really?) take him in? Did he sense something about his destiny/connection to the Serpent Scepter? If he was "sending out his consciousness" to "see and study all he wanted," why does he not have any ESP ability? Link to comment
Eviscerus
Okay, so I fixed his backstory (using your suggestions, thank you), and as far as the sending out his consciousness, he was doing so through other sea life, via his Animal control with the sensory link extra. If I am misunderstanding the way that extra works, let me know and I'll work in some sort of esp power. As far as the question of him having a secret Identity, he doesn't, he goes strictly by Leviathan these days, but his real name is Veijlial, so I changed the wording from "Alternate Identity" to simply "Real Name" sorry for the misunderstanding. Eviscerus
i noticed i had the secret complication still up from a previous incarnation of his back story. it's been redacted sorry for the confusion Link to comment
Dr Archeville
Animal Control/Sensory Link deal makes sense, yes. There's still the problem, though, of him being a hideous Fish-Man (the kind that attacked the city just three months ago), wearing nearly-black robes, wielding shadow-tentacles. He's going to need some sort of disguise to get around in the city without being immediately attacked. Link to comment
Eviscerus
Alright, I changed out my trip alternate power for a morph spell. That should take care of the problem of lynch mob getting Veijlial on a case of mistaken identity. Link to comment
