Warehouse 13 - Waterfront District - Freedom City

Amid crates of every shape and size standing silent sentry, sounds of scuffling slither through the shadowed storehouse.

"Careful with those crates Joe, Boss don't want 'em damaged," the largest of the men whispered harshly.

"Keep yer lid on, Paulie, and keep yer voice down! You want the entire city to wake up to yer yammerin'?" Joe cuffed the bigger man on the back of the head as an exclamation before turning back to the task at hand.

The other three men worked in silence, forming a line between the door and the back of a large box trailer attached to a semi-truck. Their eyes darted from side to side, pupils almost completely dilated in the blackness.

"What's got you mooks spooked eh," Joe asked, handing off a crate to the nearest in line.

"There's been stories, about more fish men comin' from the waters. They say they come at night and drag you down into the ocean. They say-"

"They say a lotta things don't they Paulie," Joe sneered derisively at the superstitious lout, believing him soft-headed.

"Huh-huh-huh," was Paulie's reply.

An out of place sigh echoed through the warehouse, and a disembodied voice reverberated through the rows of stacked crates. "Sometimes what they say, my friends, turns out to be true."

Startled Joe cried out and drew his pistol, looking around feverishly as a cold sweat burst from his skin. "Who's there?!"

The rest of the thugs dropped the crates loudly and took up defensive positions just inside the trailer while the ones named Joe and Paulie searched the building slowly, pulling out flashlights to cast shaky luminescence about the darkness.

Leviathan watched all this from his perch atop a stack of crates with a measure of amusement. He knew however, that no matter how ridiculous these criminals looked, the weapons in their hands were still very real and very dangerous. He was outnumbered five to one, and had to do this smart. He saw that the one known as Paulie was moving off farther away from Joe, separating from line of sight, and more to the point, heading directly for Leviathan. This was about to get interesting.

It had become a habit since she’d arrived in the city a quick flight around the city before bed time. Her Nano spitting out tunes that reminded her of home.

Agnes wasn’t looking for trouble, she rarely did but she still kept an eye out for anything unusual going on. And on her final lap of the city, of cause, she spotted something strange down by the waterfront. Torches and people by a darkened warehouse normally meant trouble of some sort, and even if it was innocent it wouldn’t hurt to have a peek.

She dived down towards the dock bathing the area in a shining light.

"Beware, criminals!" A voice boomed beyond the warehouse, as a bright yellow-white glow appeared around the heavy truck. The vehicle's tires left the ground, as a shining figure in golden armor descended. "The Light sees your actions, and the Light calls you to task!" As the truck stabilized a a dozen feet or more above the loading area, Starlight touched down, at almost the same instant that Young Britannia hit the ground. She glanced around, raising an eyebrow at the impeccably dressed young woman. "The Light does not stand alone," she called to the criminals, not missing a beat.

The sudden burst of light and the truck lifting from the ground set the thugs to panic. Two of the thugs in the truck bailed out and began firing wildly into the light, while the third held on for dear life. Joe and Paulie both start for the truck, guns brandished.

Leviathan saw this as the perfect distraction and sent the shadows out to lash the one known as Paulie. Paulie enters the fringes of the light before black massive tentacles wrap him up and pull him back, screaming in horror, and a low throaty chuckle echoes through the warehouse. "I suggest you start running, felons. The ocean is not a forgiving entity, and neither am I."

Posted

Starlight floated above the concrete as she wafted into the warehouse, still holding the semi-truck high in the air. "The Light is within us all," she exclaimed, holding out her arms to the criminals. "Put down your weapons, make restitution for your crimes, and you too may walk in the Light. It is not too late to make amends; this day does not yet have to end in bloodshed and harm!" The alien put all her knowledge of human psychology to the test. These men were heavily outnumbered and outclassed; surely, the smart thing for them to do would be to lay down their weapons!

The hapless thugs look from Starlight to each other with wide, fearful eyes. "He's right boss! We should just give up! There's no way we're getting outta this in one piece otherwise!"

"Shut it you mooks and let me think," Joe shouted back, looking every which way for Paulie, who lay unconscious in the dark. For the moment, Starlight had seeded doubt into the minds of the criminals, but a single wrong move could send the thugs into a panic, and the guns to blazing. The night was still, the air pregnant with the possibilities of a cessation to violence or the re-eruption of bloodshed and carnage.

Leviathan noticed the change in tone, and though perturbed by the outsider's willingness to parlay with criminals and their ilk, he was also relieved that help had arrived, for taking so many armed men down by himself would have taken some doing. Deciding to give diplomacy a chance, Leviathan hopped down from the crate and emerged into the light being cast about the area. He left his hood down though, so as not to spark more panic among the already frightened men. "The sea is not often forgiving, but placid waters come even after the most violent of tempests. I propose you lessen your sins, criminals, by doing what the lighted one says." Leviathan's voice rasped out like the arhythmic lap of waves upon a shoreline.

Zealot

Zealot had been tracking a new taint in his city for a number of days. Like him, this foul creature liked to haunt the waterfront warehouses, which served to irk Zealot almost as much as this magic users mere existence. When Victor finally caught up with the source of this evil magic, he saw that more of the inept so called heroes had flocked to his arcane call. At present there were three of the pretenders to power hazing a group of businessmen loading supplies onto a truck. These being powers by far outmatched their lowly adversaries and Victor found himself disgusted with the lot of them. And they call ME the villain!

As silent as a grave, Victor approached the scene. His almost preternatural skills in stealth and subterfuge hid him well from the so called superheroes, and soon he was within striking distance of his prey with Witchbreaker, his tool for meting out God's judgement.

"Impure beasts! Behold the righteous might of God!" Focusing his aim carefully from the shadows Victor unfurled the scourge and let loose a crackle of angry red energy into the hooded snake of a sorcerer, catching all by surprise and causing the "businessmen" to be panicked anew. Slides racked and hammers cocked in the night. Things had just gone from bad to worse.

Leviathan

Leviathan's empty world erupted into garish light, incredible pain, and a grating scream that Veijlial later realized was emanating from his own lips. As the scourge's barbed fingers dug deep into his skin, sending furrows of red energy into his body, Leviathan's senses overloaded and he was overcome for the moment. Too dazed to do more than slump against the warehouse wall and grit his teeth as blood spilled from his lips from a tongue bitten almost completely through. This was not the way Leviathan saw his night going. This newcomer was strong! Using the shadows as Leviathan himself did, and against him at that. It was now up to his new acquaintances, at least for the next few moments, to keep this simple attempted robbery from turning into a much more dire situation!

Posted

What looked like a simple robbery seemed to have taken a slightly bizarre turn with the arrival of some kind of babbling madman. And a super powered on at that.

She had to end this as quickly as possible, before things really got out of hand. She concentrated and drew on the power she had within, concentrating she draw on the inner light within her, focusing it drawing it out until.

“Okay this is going to be bright everyone close your eyes.â€

She released her power into a blinding white burst of light.

The sudden blast of light catches the thugs unawares, this just is not their day! Joe and his ilk scream out in pain, "Oh no, I'm blind! That crazy b*^%$ blinded me!"

What followed for the grunts was a spectacle of almost slapstick chaos. Joe, being the brave leader, dropped his gun and tried to run, but ran full into the side of the warehouse, knocking himself out cold. The other two fire off their rounds into random directions, hitting nothing before dropping to their knees and begging mercy, one of them crawling right off the pier into the water!

Zealot

With a yell, Victor quickly grabs his cloak and pulls it over his eyes, shielding himself from the blinding light. When his eyes adjusted moments later he saw the ensuing carnage the poor businessmen endured at the hands of the so called hero and growled.

"You shall pay for your insolence! Your petty tricks will have no effect on the righteous and the pure," Zealot let Witchbreaker unfurl and crack the air, letting out a cacophonous thunderclap of divine power. "You will know pain this night, fools! I have judged you all and found you wanting! Before I would have sufficed with the magic user's flesh. But now you shall all suffer unto me!"

Posted

Starlight turned her head away, avoiding the worst of Young Britannia's light burst. At the same time she charged a bolt of her own mystic power and unleashed it with a cry, turning her whole body and putting all her strength behind it. Unfortunately it went wide, passing over the heavily armored figure and splashing against a wall. Undeterred, she flew over to place herself between this new foe and the hero he had sought to bring down. She put her palm out at the new figure, speaking loudly. "This is not your place. I do not wish to harm you, but if you bring violence upon this place, then you shall be defeated, villain!"

Posted

It was probably bad manner among heroes to laugh at the foolish antics of their opponents. But she couldn’t help but smile at the comedy reactions to her blinding attack. But for now there was a more important foe to pay attention to.

The light from everything going on allowed her to get a good look at this new opponent. She didn’t like what she could see, best to take him down as quickly as possible.

She loosened off a quick burst of light at her opponent but the burst shot wide. Not a good start to impress your allies.

Leviathan

This madman had been laughing at the so called "feeble" attempts from his counterparts to blast some sanity into him, and as such had forgotten who was behind the light wielder. Shaking the stars from his vision, and wiping the blood from his eyes, Leviathan's eyes settled on this ranting figure, and a cold fire of anger welled within him. Pulling in a breath through his nostrils, Veijlial quickly uttered the words to a devastating counterattack. From his outstretched fingers a black snake made entirely of eldritch shadow slithered towards Zealot. Zealot turned in time to see a cobra of pure shadow fan it's head and strike him full in the chest, staggering him back a step and causing him to yell out in pain.

"You talk too much," Leviathan commented coldly staring defiantly into Zealot's now seething eyes.

Zealot

Anger broiled within Victor at the sheer audacity of the magic wielders to defy him, let alone strike him with their fell energies! Grinding his teeth, Zealot seethed in a breath, offered up a prayer of vengeance and leaped into the air, Witchbreaker arcing high in the air covered in red electric power.

"You shall all pay for your insolence! Feel the wrath of the hand of God!"

With that, Zealot landed, bringing the enchanted scourge down upon the battlefield, sending a crackling wave of energy bursting out from beneath him to catch both Starlight and Leviathan in it's wake. Zealot could tell at once that the blast had caught the small snake-creature by surprise as the slight emanations of dark powers emanating from him fell from Victor's senses. He looked up to see Leviathan's eyes roll back into his head as he was lifted from the ground and smashed into the crate behind him and almost neck-shattering speed.

Posted

Zealot's wave of brilliant energy burst over the floor of the warehouse, heading straight for the alabaster woman in golden armor. She strode through it calmly though, the crackling power crawling up her body and over without apparently affecting her. She gathered a brilliant orb of energy in one hand, holding it high above her head. "You claim the powers of God," she cried out dramatically, "but you fight the servants of the Light!? Feel the power of true righteousness!" She flung the energy at the villain, but once again missed -- coming closer this time, but not actually hitting him.

“Wow you’ve really got a lot of bile to spit out. Whoever you’ve been talking to he ain’t exactly answering at the moment.â€

The white light began to build up around her; her hair flowed out behind her as if blown by an invisible wind.

“Maybe you should give it a rest and leave us all alone.â€

The light flickered a moment before she thrust her arms forwards causing a massive burst of light to flow towards Zealot. The blast of concentrated light flowed around the armoured figure.

“Before someone gets hurt.â€

Zealot

Zealot brought up an arm as the light washed over him, covering his eyes. The blast hit him squarely in the chest but his "divinely" enchanted breast plate mitigated the attack without damage being done. Zealot focused on the young light wielder and sneered.

"You dare strike an agent of the Lord with your fel magics?! I will lay you low for your insolence!"

Zealot cracks Witchbreaker in the air before him, it's angry red energy and thundering cracks splitting the air promising pain to the young heroine.

Leviathan

Seeing his would be counterpart and rescuer approaching dire straits at the hands of the madman that had been after him. Veijlial summoned all his arcane might to bear. He would not allow this maniacal fool to hurt anyone else the way he'd hurt Leviathan. This had to stop now.

Veijlial gathered the dark to him, spreading out his black tentacles, he opened new pathways in his mind, to find the spell and the power to wield it. Suddenly lashing out, he sent his tentacles out to the madman, attempting to wrap him in terrible darkness and power, but Zealot easily dodged out of the way and looked backwards at the now drained sorcerer, offering him a sneer of derision before turning back to the young light wielder.

Zealot

"I'll deal with your newfound insolence in a minute, fool!"

Zealot turned back to Young Britannia, a fire in his eyes that promised pain. With a bestial scream, Victor sent Witchbreaker arcing through the air to slam directly into the chest of Agnus, sending up sparks of crimson energy as the steel of scourge bites into light-infused flesh.

"Fear the wrath of the righteous! Feel the sting of Witchbreaker!"

Posted

The crimson strike fuzzed and splattered around the aura of light that always surrounded Young Britannia which grew in brightness until the crimson colour was enveloped by the pure white light of the young hero.

She continued to float there appearing totally unharmed by the attack.

Agnes allowed herself a quick smile, but reminded herself how lucky she was the attack hadn’t hurt her.

“Looks like the righteous isn’t on your side today. Maybe you should go away and have a little chat with him or even her?â€

Posted

Starlight calmly strode towards the villain, unhindered by his attacks. "Righteousness isn't what you have," she told him. "Merely spite and hate. You shall not succeed this day. This day the Light shall strike you down!" The alabaster heroine thrust one hand out at Zealot and bright white energy barreled into him. "Lay down your weapons now, evildoer, and no more harm shall come to you."

Zealot

Victor had been lucky up until now. His almost preternatural reflexes and enchanted armor had saved him from the worst of the fel magician's magics, but when Starlight's blast caught him directly in the chest, he was unprepared. Compared to the shots from the previous two magic users, this was a freight train. The focused light lifted Zealot from his feet and vaulted him over Leviathan's head to land down in the shadows of the warehouse, the sound of collapsing crates reverberating off the walls of the warehouse.

Coughing and weezing, Victor's voice could be heard throughout the warehouse, seeming to come off of every flat surface, "Fools! You will regret this night's insolence. I should have known that where there is one evil sorcerer, there are two more to make sure his nefarious deeds come to fruition. Mark me, foul ones! You are not the only ones with friends! I will return, but between then and now, beware the dark, for the righteous wrath of Him awaits you there!"

After the absurd speech a sort of muffled whisper could be heard sighing out through the night, and the crazed Zealot was gone.

Posted

Starlight held herself ready, but Zealot didn't reappear after his cowardly retreat. She sniffed dismissively even as she raised one hand and a bright point source of light appeared in the middle of the warehouse, lighting the entire space brightly. "Evil sorcerers," she scoffed. "That is one man who hasn't been off-planet." With the villain dispatched, the heroine turned back to the scaled hero. She knelt next to him and touched his arm, energy flowing out of her and into him. "Can you stand," she asked him.

Leviathan

Veijlial shook the stars and cobwebs from his head and stood, suffering only a moment of dizziness.

"It appears that I can. Seems that now I'm only suffering from a mild concussion and of course, wounded pride. Thank you, kind strangers for your aid this night. Whereas the deep dark of the ocean discriminates not friend from foe, I do, and will endeavor to repay this debt of kindness you have bestowed upon me."

Leviathan offered a fanged smile and held out his hand awkwardly to shake. "My name is Veijlial Anathka'Un, but seeing as how that is passingly difficult to say, let alone spell, you may call me Leviathan. I am, and will be, at your service."
