Dr Archeville Posted February 14, 2008 Author Posted February 14, 2008 These lawyers need brrraaaiiinnnsss.... 'Dawn of the Rising Dead'? Posted by sjohnson - Thursday, February 14, 2008 11:28 AM Another chapter of the agonizingly slow legal dispute between Capcom and New Line over the similarities (or lack thereof) of Dead Rising to Dawn of the Dead began yesterday. In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, Capcom says that "humans battling zombies in a shopping mall" is a "wholly unprotectible idea" by copyright standards. Seemingly fearing a lawsuit, Capcom is seeking to stop The MKR Group, which claims to be the exclusive owner of the copyright to Dawn of the Dead original and 2004 remake, from asserting its intellectual property, including copyright and trademark. We'll let you know what happens, but until then, read the complaint yourself (.pdf), if you like poring through legal documents.
