Veiled Malice Posted February 16, 2008 Author Posted February 16, 2008 Following a man proved to be far easier than following after a car. Perhaps it was because the man couldn't spare the time to look behind him, going as fast as he was. Or maybe he was just very sure he'd escaped Velocity to begin with. Whatever the reason, she was able to shadow the man all the way into Southside. The spaces between buildings got perceptively narrower now that they were out of Downtown. The urban sprawl spread out before her, complete with all the sights (and smells) of what happened when a city dumped it's human refuse in one place. Many politicos said that the situation had been getting better in recent years, but as she ran through areas that seemed more like demilitarized zones than city streets, she found that tough to believe. Finally the MiB ducked into an abandoned warehouse near Highway 4. The place had probably been a bustling place of business at one point, but now it stood derelict and empty, it's cavernous interior devoid of anything but a few boxes and packing crates left behind when the owners moved elsewhere. Velocity snuck around the exterior of the building and looked in through a badly stained window pane. The dark-suited man had ran into the place and stopped near the middle. He looked around, seemingly confused by something. It was clear from his expression and increasing ill-ease that he had been expecting someone to be there.

Thevshi Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Velocity took in the rundown nature of Southside as she followed along. She did not get down this way much, normally when she might follow a villain back to their hideout. It was a rather depressing place. As she watched the dark suited man, and the uneasiness that seemed to come over him, Velocity wondered if the police had gotten to the last boy before these guys. For no, she tries to keep herself out of sight and wait to see if anything else happens.

Veiled Malice Posted February 19, 2008 Author Posted February 19, 2008 Before long, several similarly dressed men drifted into the warehouse. They gathered around the first MiB, and started talking. Velocity couldn't really hear them from her hiding place, but it sounded like several of the others had run into problems like the one she chased here had. The first arrival waved off the other's concerns and walked over to a metal plate on the floor. It was connected to a chain, which he picked up and started to drag. He moved what had to be several hundred pounds of steel with one arm, seemingly confirming his inhuman, or at least enhanced, status. He and the other men started walking down the staircase uncovered by the sliding metal plate. Velocity was about to get into a better position to spy on them when a hand clamped around her mouth from behind and a feminine voice whispered, "What are you doing here?" When she looked around, Velocity found herself face to face with The Raven, who seemed none too pleased to see her.

Thevshi Posted February 19, 2008 Posted February 19, 2008 Velocity had been about to launch a punch at whomever had grabbed her when she found it to be Raven. Pulling herself together after being face to face with the dark clad crimefighter, she replied. “I followed after one of these guys from North Bay. They were giving some high school students there some version of Zoom, and then tried to kidnap them when they started crashing off it.â€Â

Veiled Malice Posted February 20, 2008 Author Posted February 20, 2008 Raven considered that carefully, then carefully released Velocity. "I see. You followed them here, I take it?" This was said mostly rhetorically, as she had gone back to peering in through the window. By now, all of the MiBs had disappeared under the metal slab, down the stairs to some underground level. "I picked them up a few days ago," Raven said. "At first, it appeared Grant Conglomerates had a hand in this new Zoom derivative. But now I'm not so sure. Some of them are Grant employees, but none of the pieces seem to fit. The profits aren't going back to Grant. And I'm not sure if there even have been any profits. All the people I've busted so far have been giving the stuff away." She looked back towards Velocity. "Even the drug's effects have been different. Some give the users greater speed, but a strange crash were they seem to be in slow motion."

Thevshi Posted February 20, 2008 Posted February 20, 2008 "Yeah, I've seen the effects of the ‘slow down’ crash." Velocity replied. She then frowned at the thought of Grant Conglomerates being involved, thinking about her friend Sarah. "If Grant Conglomerates is involved, I would think there would be some major shell corporations between them and the people operating to distribute. Probably through off shore stuff, so it never tied back to Grant."

Veiled Malice Posted February 21, 2008 Author Posted February 21, 2008 "That's what I thought as well," Raven said. "It's more like someone is trying a clumsy attempt as pinning this on Grant. But whoever it is has a lot of money to waste. Personnel and equipment like what I've found don't come cheap." She was silent for a moment as she scanned the interior of the building. "Alright, we've given them enough time. Follow me." Walking away from the window, Raven made her way along the outside of the building, over some discarded corrugated tin panels and past rusting barrels to a small hole in the exterior just large enough to crawl through. "In here." Raven swiftly moved through the rent in the metal and took up a position behind some boxes, waiting for Velocity to move in behind her.

Thevshi Posted February 21, 2008 Posted February 21, 2008 Velocity quickly and quietly follows after Raven, as the dark clad heroine led her to a small hole in the side of the building. After Raven led the way in, Velocity was beside the other woman in an instant.

Veiled Malice Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 Raven held up a hand for silence; unnecessary because of Velocity's near-perfect stealth, but it seemed to be almost reflex for the woman. Once she was sure there was no one in earshot, she turned back to Velocity. "Alright, here's how it's going to go down. Once they come back up, I'll hit them with a flashbang. Then you move in and do your thing. Got it?" From her tone, it was obvious she wasn't going to take anything other than her plan under advisement.

Thevshi Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Though she did not really like how bossy Raven was, Velocity nodded in understanding, waiting for the other woman to start things off.

Veiled Malice Posted February 24, 2008 Author Posted February 24, 2008 It didn't take long for the MiBs to emerge from the unsealed portion of floor. Two came up at first, chatting with each other about some "project" or other. The acoustics in the cavernous warehouse made hearing exactly what their were talking about impossible, however. They were armed with some sort of energy rifles now, much more dangerous than the blaster pistols they had before. Both took a quick look around the main floor of the warehouse, then one tapped his earbud twice. This was a signal to his friends, who came up cautiously from the same hole in the floor. There were two more MiBs in the second group, and following them were two more people. One was the man Velocity had encountered earlier, the leader of the group at Denton LaBreque's house. But the far more surprising thing was that the third boy from the original group this morning, Robert Luciano, was coming up alongside him, seemingly at ease with his "kidnappers". Velocity couldn't ponder the mystery of why Robert would be escorted around by the MiBs for more than a second, as Raven had sprang into action, hurling her flashbang at the group. The resulting blast was nearly deafening, even from where Velocity hid. It had it's desired effect, though. The MiBs were stunned, groping about blindly. The only one that hadn't been affected was the leader from before, and he reacted quickly to the emerging situation, raising his gun as Raven moved in.

Thevshi Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 As the flashbang went off and surprised the dark suited men, Velocity saw that one of the men was not affected. As he started going for his gun, she grabbed several marbles from her belt and sent them at him at the speed of sound.

Veiled Malice Posted February 24, 2008 Author Posted February 24, 2008 The man managed to stumble to the side just before the marbles flew through the space he'd occupied a moment earlier, but was unable to fire before Raven smashed into him. However, the man was substantially more durable than he seemed, as he shrugged the hit off. He snarled, trying to bring his gun to bear on the new threat.
