Thunder King Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Voltage sighed. Hospital policies existed for a reason, but still, what was he going to do? His costume protected him from harm. At least this time he could use his powers in full. However, he did realize that the boss had recently seen his face, as had Spiderbite. He could wear full surgical get-up and cover his distinctive prematurely-gray hair, making it less likely that the guy remember him. "Okay, hospital policy is what it is." He said. "Two conditions, I get the full surgical mask, and I get to keep my own mask. That alright?" He asked.
Supercape Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 GM "Okay, hospital policy is what it is." He said. "Two conditions, I get the full surgical mask, and I get to keep my own mask. That alright?" He asked. "Good enough for me!" replied Doctor O'Flannagan happily. She handed Voltage some surgical gowns. "Changing room is over there!" she indicated "I won't peek!" she added with a wink. "The mask is fine, I respect your identity!" she added. Alongside the gowns was a surgical mask - presumably part of the deal. The changing room itself had a couple of male nurses in, already halfway through changing back to their civvies and ending the shift and chatting to each other about the crook in ITU. "What do you know, we get a celebrity in! did you see him in the news?" they said in a jovial manner.
Thunder King Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 He rolled his eyes and ducked into the changing room. It only took a few seconds to slide his costume off. He grabbed a nearby bag and stuffed it in. Then he changed into the surgical gown and mask. He only had a few minutes. Move the patient, talk to him, confront the mobsters and prevent them from killing him. Whether or not Spiderbite was a jerk is irrelevant. The guy was not going to die, not while Voltage stood. That's what being a hero means. He looked at a mirror and grinned. Only his regular mask was even visible. Nobody here would recognize him. Still, he worried that this surgical gown would burn off of him if he used his powers too much. Ah, the risks of the job. He slid a pair of gloves on and stepped out. He really must look like an idiot, but hey, that's not why he went into heroics. Of course, looking cool did help.
Supercape Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 GM "Very nice" said Doctor O'Flannagan, nodding her head in approval. "Come in, our client, I believe known as Spiderbite on account of his interesting tattoo, is right in here...and don't forgetto wash your hands as you come in" she added, pointing to a surgical scrub dispenser and giving her hands a dutiful clean. The ITU unit had eight beds, seven of which where occupied. There were four nurses here, doing paperwork or monitoring the patients. It all looked very high tech, clean, and well oiled. Spiderbite was lying in bed six, various tubes coming out of every orifice and two lines into him, bags of fluid up, and wires attatched to his head. He looked like a spider web, ironically. Moving him was not going to be easy, if that was what was intended. He was also unconscious. "Here he is..." explained the good doctor "out of it at the moment. Probably the morphine. Three gunshots to the chest. The surgeons were operating overnight. Fortunately, the heart and the aorta intact, as was his spine. But he lost a lot of blood, and both lungs got punctured. It's not good. He is probably over the worst of it now, but it's still touch and go..."
Thunder King Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Voltage washed his hands quickly and made his way into the room. He gazed down at the injured man and sighed. This wasn't going to help. He had no way of questioning him at the moment. The guy looked in rough shape, but Voltage was encouraged to hear that he could very well recover. He didn't want to see him dead. "Alright, where can we move him?" He asked. "Another room? We still have quite a few minutes, I think, but not a lot of time. Where should we move him?" His head nodded downward briefly as his mind began to race. His powerful mind began to churn through dozens of scenarios. In nearly all of them, he realized that confronting the boss directly was highly probable, and quite unwanted. He'd have to be careful not to destroy the scrubs. This was a risky move no matter what he did. He also realized that this guy probably would not want to shoot up a hospital. Maybe question the man, see how he was doing, but not go on a rampage. Even if he did, it was a hospital, he'd be put in prison, for life, for that. No, Voltage realized, this was a different sort of visit. If they were going to kill him, they would do so later tonight, when the likelihood of getting away with it would be higher. Despite going through dozens of scenarios, only a few seconds had passed. "Alright, where is safe to move him?"
Supercape Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 GM Dr O'Flannagan shrugged. "He is safe enough to move, as long as he is wired up to oxygen and we keep the blood drips going. The longer he is out of intensive care, the worse, of course. We have to monitor his vital signs, infuse his, administer the drugs. But the surgeons have done there work, its largely up to the fates at this point. All we are doing is giving him the chance to recover..." "As to where, well, anywhere that we can look after him. A medical facility. Preferably one with an intensive care unit, but that's not absolutely necessary. Intensive Care is Just a name given to lots of attention, there is nothing particularly special about the room itself, other than a little more attention to infection control. " she gave Voltage a wiggle of her eyebrow with the last statement eyeing up his hospital garb..." "So, do you have a secret hideout with an infirmary? or do we cart him to another hospital?"
Thunder King Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 "Another hospital would be best." He said. "I don't have a hide out or anything like that." "If you put him in an ambulance, I can escort it to another hospital, flying over it. If they make an appearance, I will know about it." He said. "I don't know if I'll be able to ask him any questions, but we'll have to see if he wakes up." He knew they wouldn't have much time left. Whatever happened, he had to know what this guy knew, and what was going on. He was also still concerned about his brother. Sam, unfortunately, might have to wait a bit. He'd find his brother, and stop whatever was going on. "What is that sound?" He said, looking around. It was coming from the window. He walked over to the window, and looked out it.
Supercape Posted February 15, 2012 Author Posted February 15, 2012 GM The low thrumming buzzing sound was getting progressively louder. And outside, the reason sprang into view... Flies! And not your regular variety either! Giant flies!!! The horrible creatures were even larger than Voltage, their legs as thick as his thigh, their giant eyes glinting and proudly displaying their horrible anatomy. Flies were never the most attractive of insects, but at these proportions their grotesqueness was in plain view. Voltage spied four climbing up the wall to the ITU on the outside of the building (they were on the second floor), and four flying directly at him. Crash! the four flying flies smashed through the windows almost simultaneously, buzzing around the room, causing havoc as monitors, drips, and medical notes flew this way and that.
Thunder King Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 "Oh, it's just giant flies...GIANT FLIES?!" He shouted, jumping back. They were disgusting, hideous, and flying in the middle of a hospital! He was sure that doctor would be even more angry about flies in her hospital, talk about a sanitation risk! Ah, well, it was hardly his fault. He gathered energy through his body and let current flow from his body into the nearest insect. The energy flowed from him into the fly. The fly's body shook for a few seconds, and then fell to the ground. He looked at the other three warily. This attack could not have been a coincidence. It was evident that his ideas and theories were likely true; someone was performing dangerous experiments. He only hoped that they weren't making something even worse than giant flies.
Supercape Posted February 16, 2012 Author Posted February 16, 2012 GM The power of Voltage was irresistable. The mighty bolts of electricity flew from his hands and coursed through the flies as they barraged against him. Initially intent on attacking the poor Spiderbite, as soon as hit by the thunderous power of voltage they spun around and crawled and flew straight at the hero. But they where frustrated in their advance...they were acting with tiny minds and primitive reflexes, blindly charging him without heed or plan. Whilst they did not manage to touch the superhero, they were causing carnage amongst the patients - lines and drips went flying, and poor Dr O Flannigan hid behind the nurses station with the other staff, screaming. One...two...three....four...the flies were dropping like...well, flies... As four more wall crawlers poked in through the smashed window, Voltage caught sight of Spiderbite...and the monitor he was hooked up to. His lines had been pulled out, his oxygen mask ripped off... And he his ECG monitor was beeping with what anyone could see was an extremely irregular heart beat... "Arrest!" shouted out O'Flannigan, behind the nurses desk...although it was unlikely a cardiac arrest squad could even be contacted right now...
Thunder King Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 "Oh, oh no..." He said, watching the monitor. "Nobody's gonna die on my watch!" he closed his eyes and began gathering energy into himself. For a moment, his body glowed with electricity. He brought his arms in close, shaking his fists. He couldn't fry the whole room, just his enemies. He used his mind to calculate it all precisely. He knew where every target was. He knew how much power to use, how to avoid frying the rest of the room. Only the flies were going to get hit, nothing else. His eyes opened suddenly as he uncoiled his muscles. Lightning flew from his body at the insects, hitting every fly in that direction. It took a lot of effort to control the current, to channel it only into the insects. He knew that even the smallest mistake could cost someone their life, or at the very least, valuable property could be destroyed.
Supercape Posted February 18, 2012 Author Posted February 18, 2012 GM The crackling electricity lanced a short distance across the room, striking each fly directly. There was a slightly offensive burning smell, like a rotting form of ozone, as the flies smoked and dropped to the floor, either lifeless or unconscious, it was hard to tell with giant flies. A beeping sound was heard from three patients, as O'Flannagan stood up... "Sound the crash...what the hell were those things? Flies???" she shouted, aghast and scared. She pulled up two nurses from behind the counter with each hand "get moving! three arrests! and it looks like the man of the moment, our arachnid friend is one of them!!! where's that defibralator???" The smashed remains of the defib were indeed present, under the body of a giant fly. Right on cue, the two policemen rushed in, nearly falling over each other, holding their handguns. "A bit late, fellas!" yelled a furious O'Flannigan, before pointing at the door "and get out! HYGEINE!!!!"
Thunder King Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 "If there's anything I can do to help...I'll be right here." He said, backing up, but not leaving the room. Voltage stood back and let the medical efforts do their thing. He had nothing to contribute, save for being behind them, waiting patiently. He knew that the best thing he could do was wait for them to do their job. Still, the giant flies proved what he was thinking. Those experiments were dangerous. On top of being dangerous for his brother, of course. This situation had gotten far out of hand. It was time to find out where those men had gone.
Supercape Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 GM "Clear!" The Crash team came quickly, and soon got to work on Spiderbite, under the competent direction of Doctor O'Flannagan. After a few minutes, he was back up, with a stable heart beat and wired up to monitors, oxygen and a drip. The good doctor strolled up to Voltage "we got him stable again. Well, relatively stable. He should make it, although nothing is certain. Now what the hell are these things?" she asked, pointing and the smoking remains of the giant flies that still cluttered the ICU. "I think its time we moved our friend here before we get some snakes and spiders arrive. You are the hero, aren't you? I don't trust those cops any more than I could throw one of their donuts..."
Thunder King Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 "Those are giant flies, probably created from the same stuff this Spiderbite got himself involved in." Voltage said, nodding. "Alright, tell me where we're moving him, and I'll be the escort...right after I change into my costume proper. I don't want to light this thing on fire by accident." He bent down and looked at one of the grotesque monstrosities littering the floor of the room. This was most peculiar. He shuddered to think of what that stuff, whatever it was, could do to a human body.
Supercape Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 GM "Anywhere but here" was O'Flannagan's reply. "And the less people know about it the better. Frankly, you are about the only guy I trust right now, so lets try and keep this quick, and between us. I can call an ambulance for the transfer, but the less people know where he is, the less people are going to try and kill him..." As Voltage looked down inspecting the Burnt fly, he found a small electronic device, some kind of camera and transmitter, wired up to the nape of the flies neck. It has been shocked and fried by his incredible power, and was no longer working, but it did look repairable, and he could get an understanding of what it was.
Thunder King Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 He was grateful for the small toolkit he always brought with him. He took the device in his hands and began to tinker with it. "I should be able to get it working soon enough." He said. "It'll be a while, though. In the meantime, let's escort him in secret to another hospital by ambulance. I'll fly overhead and scout out."
Supercape Posted February 21, 2012 Author Posted February 21, 2012 GM A little later, in the ambulance...on the way to Trinity Hospital... "I didn't expect you to be soldering iron whilst we are travelling" noted Doctor O'Flannagan, as she adjusted the oxygen supply to Spiderbite. It was just her and Voltage in the back of the ambulance, and one solitary paramedic driver whom the doctor knew and trusted. She had phoned up a few key people in Trinity Hospital and preparations were made. No doubt the word would get out eventually, but it was the best she could do. "This cover won't last for long" she added "sooner or later, we will get a repeat performance of those bugs, in one way or another. I hope you can find out who, or what, is behind this!" The bumpy ride didn't help much, but Voltage was an expert. The device was some kind of electronic transmittor, functioning both as a camera and microphone, and some kind of advanced control for the giant flies, enough to "pilot" them, and induce primitive fear / rage reactions.
Thunder King Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 "Sorry, but if I can figure out what this device does, I may be able to decipher how to track it back to it's point of origin. If I can deduce a point of origin, I can track down the people responsible and take the fight to them. There!" He fidgeted with the device. He wasn't sure who created it, but it definitely looked pretty advanced. As soon as Spiderbite was safe, he would head out and find those responsible. "I know this won't last that long, but, I'll be ready if they show up." He said. "This man will arrive safely at the next hospital if there's anything I can do about it." Still, he wondered why it was necessary to kill Spiderbite. Did they assume he'd talk? Were they upset with him taking the computer to be repaired?
Supercape Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 GM "Well, I sure hope you can stop them somehow" replied O'Flannagan "because all this move does is give us some breathing space. If they tracked this scumbag one time, they can do it again. And next time, we may not be so lucky. Although I guess that's there problem..." she tailed off, looking away from Voltage for a moment. Something about the situation had drawn her in and she didn't want to let go. As she spoke, the device in Voltages hand started beeping, a quiet, insignificant sound, accompanied by a flashing orange light, equally subtle. Of course, it was hard to know for sure, but Voltage had just put the thing back together. He could make a good guess. A signal was incoming again. Which could mean one thing... "Hey...what's that ahead?" said the ambulance driver....
Thunder King Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Voltage's head snapped towards the driver. In seconds, he dove to the front of the vehicle to gaze outside, seeing what the driver was seeing. His mind already turned over what the driver could have seen. Spider webs, massive spider webs. Voltage rolled his eyes. "Crap!" He shouted "I gotta go check this out. Driver, uh...might want to stop the van. This could get ugly." He gazed up at the roof. "I'm going to do some pest control." With that, he teleported upwards, past the roof of the van, and well above it. He gazed up at the webs. Where webs are, spiders generally are too. He crossed his arms. This was getting beyond irritating. He was going to shut whoever was doing this down, completely.
Supercape Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 GM The Spider was enormous. It was still a genuine spider, all eight spindly legs, venomous bite, and sticky webs, but its size was beyond nature, it was the size of an elephant. The Ambulance had come to a stop on an overpass - a huge gridlocked traffic jam had been caused by layers of sticky web strung from building to building, lamp post to lamp post. horns were tooting and tempers were fraying. Meanwhile, underneath the overpass, the monstrosity clung to the underside of the pass, and crawled, in its horribly creepy and silent way, towards the ambulance, unseen and unheard, until it reached the point directly underneath. Then, its legs reaching over in that spine chilling manner, it crawled up the overside, its horrible eyes swivelling to see Voltage, and ejecting a lance of sticky web as it did. Fortunately for Voltage, the spiders aim was short - it just fell short and landed across the ambulance. But the spider continued to advance...
Thunder King Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 The sudden arrival of the spider startled him, despite him expecting it. Voltage fired off a blast that went wild and failed to hit the spider. He growled, this was going to be quite annoying. He gazed at the spider, indecisive over his next action. He wasn't sure how likely it would be for the spider to hurt the van. All he knew was that he had to find a way to defeat this monstrous thing. He decided not to move, hoping instead that the spider would consider him it's target. He wasn't sure what would happen next, but he absolutely must not let the spider get inside the ambulance.
Supercape Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 GM The Giant Spider scuttled across the overpass with an uncanny turn of speed, it's long spindly legs allowing it a rapid pace. It's legs pawed up against the ambulance, making it tilt heavily to one side. "Hey, get off my....AAAAAAARGGGGH!" yelled the ambulance driver, leaning out of his window. His annoyance turned quickly into a scream and he ducked back inside, winding up his window rapidly. The monstrosity then jumped, straight into the air, its horrible slobbering jaws fixing on Voltage's ankle but unable to get a grip. The beast slid of the advanced protective material and it crashed back down to the ambulance, denting it's roof and causing it to roll from side to side.
Thunder King Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Voltage narrowed his eyes. This big, ugly spider was annoying him. He wasn't about to let it hurt anyone. He pulled electricity into his hands and stared the monster down. "Alright, I have to make this quick..." He mumbled to himself as he let the energy fly, coursing through the air. The current hung in the air for a few moments, filling the monstrous spider's body with a massive jolt of electricity. It shook for a moment, but remained on it's feet. This spider was tough.
