Magic Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Player Name: Magic Character Name: Butterfly Power Level: 10 (150/153PP) Trade-Offs: None Unspent Power Points: 3 Progress To Bronze Status: 3/30 In Brief: An ugly duckling turns into a beautiful butterfly. Turns out beauty isn't all it's cracked up to be. Uses her new powers to fight crime. Alternate Identity: Alicia Moore Identity: Public, kind of hard to hide two giant wings. Birthplace: Freedom City Occupation: Model Affiliations: None Family: Franklin Moore (father), Jessica Green (mother) Description: Age: 23 (DoB: September 1988) Apparent Age: early twenties Gender: Female Ethnicity: Caucasian Height: 5 foot 5 inches Weight: 130 pounds Eyes: blue Hair: reddish-brown Her skin is flawless without spots and her skin tone seems always beach ready. Her face is round and her eyes are almond. Her nose is perfectly straight and her lips are thin. Due to her wings, her long straight hair is always in front. She has an amazing figure, more blessed up top but with ample bottom. Due to her fighting training, she carries herself gracefully, but aware of everything happening. She seems to be always smiling, never letting anything get her down. The wings are red with black lining and several white spots(seen here). They reach five foot on each side (for a ten foot wingspan!) The wings feel slightly wet to the touch. When she moves them there is a slight perfume smell. Her clothes consist of backless shirts due to her wings and skirts of upper thigh to knee length. They are mostly red these days to match her wings. It's become sort of her iconic look. Not that she has a costume (it would be impossible to hide her identity now), but everyone knows her as a lady in red. She happily goes along with it. Power Descriptions: The big one is her wings she uses them to fly. Can't get more descriptive than that! She also uses her wings for another purpose. They secrete tiny spores that have different effects. Her olfactory senses are hyped up due to her butterfly physiology, her nose and mouth act as her antennae. Her sword is a katana, she has taken swordfighting lessons for years. She can coat the sword with spores to take on single targets when a certain means of finesse is needed. History: Alicia Moore is the daughter of Franklin Moore and his now ex-wife, Jessica. Jessica wasn't expecting a child and certainly didn't want to take care of it. The help raised Alicia more than her parents did. When he was run out of office, Jessica and Franklin were divorced. Though that was the least of his problems. Jessica handed all the rights to the unwanted child over to him without argument. Instead of sticking the child in an orphanage, he kept it. He wanted at least ONE person in the world to understand him. And he thought she would be his voice to the future generation. Alicia was, in no uncertain words, an ugly child. It was the look only a parent could love. While the constant teasing of other children bore in on her (it was particularly hellish in private school), it didn't get her spirits down. She always found a reason to be upbeat. Though, she was just bottling up her rage and frustration under a veneer of happiness. It all came to a head one day in ninth grade, her classmates found out who her father was after she made some awkward comments in her oral report about all heroes being vigilantes. She was viciously assaulted after school After that she was pulled out of the school system and taught at home. She took defense classes and learned how to use a weapon, a japanese sword, to protect herself. Everything went fine from then on. She had an outlet to direct her rage at. Franklin instilled more hate into her because of the incident. But it all came to a screeching halt on her eighteenth birthday. She didn't feel well and went to bed early that night. When the morning came and the house help came to check on her, they found a large cocoon hanging from the ceiling! They showed it to Franklin. After raging a massive fit and crying his eyes out that his daughter was one of "them" (something he could not be). He told them to leave it there. He kept constant vigil over the thing and the incident was kept hush (except for a few crazy rag mags reporting on it to make the theory look crazy). It was a month later when the cocoon broke. What stepped out of the cocoon was totally different than what was in it. Alicia's whole body type had changed. She was very much the opposite of ugly. The "caterpillar" had become the "butterfly". Figuratively AND literally. She had butterfly wings. At first she was shocked. Franklin nearly fainted. That was when she found out the wings were more than just decoration. When she wanted her father to calm down her wings fluttered and tiny shiny spores came out and all over the area. And all was calm. This stoked her even more. It was like the cocoon erased all of her problems! After a long heated talk with her father she was ousted from the homestead. He was under the impression that she would become a vigilante no matter what. Even after all those years of him teaching her not to buy into the hype. She didn't care though. She had better things to do though. Her first stop, after taking a psuedonym, was Hollywood. The whole scene seemed to fit her. It was ecstatic and people were artificially pretty. She drowned in the atmosphere. A few low budget flicks later, she had found her calling... in modelling (that is to say she was very pretty, but not a good actress!). It was very lonely though, sure she had tons of friends, but none of it felt real. She tried to fill the void with everything she could find, but nothing worked. Her looks could only get her so far. It was a couple months after her twenty-third birthday when Alicia finally got fed up with it and came home. Her father still didn't accept his mutant daughter. Though it was a run in with one of the locals that ignited her passion again. Not for cheap thrills, but a sense of justice. A child approached her and told her that there were bad men robbing the bank. She felt a swell in her chest, like it was her job to protect this child. to protect everyone. She rushed to the bank and tried to calm the situation, but her spores did something different this time! Everyone in the area was knocked out! She called the police and tald them the situation. And then she left. Ever since that November she's taken stock in her life in what she wants to do. She still models to pay the bills, but she truly wants to be a hero more than anything. Personality & Motivation: Alicia has mellowed out in the past few months. She's learned that using her looks to get everything is straight up boring and sometimes pretty dangerous. Oh, she's still perky to the point of energetic, but no more does she throw caution to the wind. The hero gig is a new thing to her, she does it because it's the right thing to do, no matter what her father thinks. Powers & Tactics: She's made to take out large groups. She flies above and sheds spores on them and then zips away. She'll do it until they're all down. When there are civilians or teammates around she uses her sword skills enhanced by her spores. Complications: Giant Wings: They're not totally rigid like real butterfly wings, but having a ten foot wingspan is bound to get in the way! Infamous Relative: Franklin Moore is her father. Instantly Noticeable: "The girl with the butterfly wings." Not too many of those around! Spores: The area effects won't affect anyone who doesn't need to breathe. Ecalsneerg Posted March 6, 2012 Posted March 6, 2012 She looks like Lucy Pinder* with gigantic butterfly wings. The wings are red with black lining and several white spots(seen here). They reach five foot on each side (for a ten foot wingspan!) The wings feel slightly wet to the touch. When she moves them there is a slight perfume smell. *Per GM request, I must note that, while the actress is a Page 3 girl, the character HAS clothes on. And that the character's modeling IS NOT nude. PG-13 all the way, folks! Right, while we've sorted out the having your character look like Lucy Pinder issue, that doesn't mean you get to not put in a description. A description is what a character looks like, without people having to Google what they look like. It's not "looks like ". I know what actors most of my PCs look like. You'll note that even if their image is on the sheet, what actor represents them is not in any way mentioned on the character sheet. She doesn't bother with a costume, anyone with eyes can see it's her. Her clothing style is loose up top to accomodate her new extensions from her back. She wears a lot of red to match her wings. Right, firstly, while we're fine with characters not having a proper costume, genre convention dictates they should at least have a usual outfit (like Luke Cage's black t-shirt, our own Doktor Archeville's labcoat, and so forth). Because it's a superhero setting, "because everyone knows it's me anyway" isn't really a reason to forgo at least some form of iconic outfit. On the backstory, I'm fine with Franklin Moore not being fond of superhumans, as it can be assumed he at least has sme prejudice to go along with his prejudice against superheroes. But would it not work better if the reason he disowned her was superheroics, as that would be his explicit, not just implicit, characterisation. Before I look over the entire sheet piece-by-piece, one thing I noticed... she strikes me as the type who'd be Defence-shifted, although since her Toughness is largely Defensive Roll that still works fine. Abilities: 0 + 10 + 4 + 4 + 0 + 12 = 30PP Strength: 10 (+0) Dexterity: 20 (+5) Constitution: 14 (+2) Intelligence: 10 (+0) Wisdom: 14 (+2) Charisma: 22 (+6) Adds up. Combat: 8 + 8 = 16PP Initiative: +9 Attack: +4 Melee, +4 Ranged, +10 spore-covered sword Grapple: +4 Defense: +10 (+4 Base, +6 Dodge Focus), +2 Flat-Footed Knockback: -5, -1 Flat-Footed Adds up. Saving Throws: 5 + 5 + 5 = 15PP Toughness: +10 (+2 Con, +8 defensive roll) Fortitude: +7 (+2 Con, +5) Reflex: +10 (+5 Dex, +5) Will: +7 (+2 Wis, +5) Adds up. Skills: 68R = 17PP Acrobatics 15 (+20, Skill Mastery) Bluff 14 (+20, Skill Mastery) Concentration 8 (+10) Diplomacy 14 (+20) Language 1 (English, Japanese) Notice 8 (+10, Skill Mastery) Sense Motive 8 (+10, Skill Mastery) Adds up, although Language should denote it as English [Native]. Feats: 22PP Acrobatic Bluff All-Out Attack Challenge 3 (Fast Acrobatic Bluff, Fast Distract, Fast Taunt) Defensive Roll 4 Distract (Bluff) Dodge Focus 6 Improved initiative Quick Draw Power Attack Skill Mastery (Acrobatics, Bluff, Notice, Sense Motive) Taunt Uncanny Dodge (olfactory) Adds up. Seems odd that a model wouldn't at least have Wealth 1, though? Powers: 6 + 34 + 6 + 4 = 50PP Adds up. However, if you want 1pp more, you could also add the 1pp Drawback from Ultimate Power to Flight of "not in water". As of Ultimate Power, Flight also works underwater, which makes little sense for a winged PC.
Avenger Assembled Posted March 7, 2012 Posted March 7, 2012 The divorce thing seems decidedly odd. Franklin Moore's wife was a department store heiress married to the mayor of Freedom City (and Butterfly was born during his administration). It seems much more likely that she'd leave her husband in 1993 (kids and all) after his administration collapsed. Or, heck, maybe her mom was actually one of her father's many mistresses...
Magic Posted March 7, 2012 Author Posted March 7, 2012 Changed up the first part of the history as you suggested.
