Eyes: Brown Hair: Black Nicki is an unremarkable looking teenager, an image she works hard to maintain. Her clothes are fashionable, but off the peg, her hair cut helps hide her features and she taken to wearing glasses, though she doesn’t need them. Merge is the exact opposite she dresses outrageously in bleeding edge, and often slightly bizarre, clothes that show off every inch of her curvaceous figure. Her hair is “naturally†blonde is also long but falls to the side to extenuate her heavily made up face. The tips of her hair is often dyed in a different color with each copy having a different shade. Tacky yet stylish may be a way to describe her look. Power Descriptions: With a few moments concentration Nicki can call up her alter ego, Merge Trois, who can create copies of herself. Despite her name Merge Trois can produce an almost unlimited number or copies, though she often limits herself to three initially to confuse her foes. Whilst the Nicki and Merge are mentally linked, and Merge is driven by Nicki’s desires, Merge can carry on independently of Nicki for an almost indefinite period. History: Growing up was often hard for the Dee family with her parents struggling to make end meets, this tension often led to heated arguments between Nicki parents. To escape this she created imaginary friends who she would spend hour happily playing with, her brother however escaped into alluring world of gangster rap and gang culture in general. Whilst Nicki studied hard to try and make a better life for herself and her family Dwayne fell into a life of petty crime and violence. Despite this Nicki care deeply for her brother who in his own way was always trying to look after and protect his little sister. For a while however things were okay the gang Dwayne ran with were pretty minor happy to commit relatively low key crimes, staying out of the way of the more powerful and violent gang and the notice of Lincoln resident supers. Then one day this all changed when a strange man offered the gang a chance for one big score. Nicki has never been sure exactly what happened as Dwayne came back changed. All of the gang were granted powers of some sort but Dwayne, who had volunteered to be lookout, came off the worst. As well as gaining the power to conceal him from all senses, he also gained the power to monitor and control all electronic devices as well as receive and transmit all broadcast frequencies. The problem was he can’t turn the signals off and is constantly bombarded with the chatter of the electronic devices that fill our world. Whilst he can look after himself and following simple instructions, apart from occasional flash of his old self, Dwayne has been lost in the constant electronic noise. Her parents couldn’t cope with what happened to their little boy and it fell on Nicki to take care of her big brother. Whilst doing that, and trying to complete her studies, she also started to make subtle inquiries about a cure for her brothers condition. Eventually she found somebody who was willing to help, but he warned her it would take massive amounts of money to achieve a cure. Luckily for her he could offer her powers, safe ones at that, which would allow her to gather this necessary money, for only a tiny addition to the total. Having exhausted all other options for a cure she reluctantly agreed asking for the type of power that would allow her to be in several places at the same time. Then she carefully began planning ways to earn the money necessary for his cure. Personality & Motivation: Whilst Nicki can come over as introverted she anything but shy and has, over the hard years of high school, learned to stay in the background and subtly manipulate people to get what she wants. Up to now this was mainly to be left alone in peace, but now these skills have been transferred to her criminal career. Merge Trois acts loud, brash and eccentric and comes across as a little bit dumb, but this is just an act to throw people off what really going on. Her crimes normally involve some form of distraction a flash flamboyant and apparently pointless crime, whilst the real profitable crime goes on in the background hopefully unseen. Whilst she has been forced into a life of crime Nicki, and by extension Merge Trois, consider themselves good people. Nicki would never try to intentionally harm or kill anyone and there are targets she would never consider robbing. She picks large banks and corporations that she feels can afford to lose the money. It also means she won’t work with many of Freedom Cities Villains, except maybe to take the fall, preferring to work alone or using the abilities of her brother. In certain circumstances she may even choose to work alongside some of Freedom City’s heroes, though the need for profits is never far away from her thoughts. Powers & Tactics: Whilst Merge prefers to use guile and cunning to avoid conflict if trouble starts she tend to rely in sheer strength of numbers to defeat her foes flooding the area with as many duplicates as she can. She also tend to avoid bringing Nicki into direct contact with the plan in hand, if possible she will remain a safe distance away and allow Merge to handle the situation herself. Complications: Secret Identity: Nicki works hard to keep her true identity separate from Merge Trois. If thing look to be going bad Nicki, if she’s there in the first place, will disappear allowing Merge to get capture. Who will then just melt away into nothing… Brotherly Love: Nicki feel responsible for her brother and will try to keep him safe and out of danger. Whilst she sometime uses him in her plans, if he’s put into immediate danger she will put all her energies into protecting him. Even if that means her well-constructed plans will fail. I wanted a villian like MM and as she was currently in use I decided to create a villian influenced by MM, plus I have this weird fascination of Duplicators as opponents... There is a major difference between the two, honest, whilst MM is all about crime as a form of art, Merge Trois is all about the money. If MM is a Joker analogue, Merge Trois is more like a (cut-price) Catwoman. I suspect that if the two ever meet, and I'd love to be a part of that thread, they'd probably end up butting heads.

Supercape Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 OK Great character first off! Excellent. Now then, crunch time: 1. As it stands, Merge Trois will be around all the time. If Nicky wants to summon her, thats the summon power - its expensive, and will mean a lot of work on character sheet. The advantages of Summoning is that you can stunt off it and you can call up your minion to (or hide him away) as and when you feel like it. To be honest, the way you describe Merge as being brought up by Nikky sounds like the Summon Power with Nicky as the main character. 2. You are slightly below PL caps in terms of attack and defence. Its only just under so I think that will fly here, but its not ideal. The defence is PL 9.5, the offence is PL 9. I would suggest bringing the offence up a little to keep in line with what generally goes on here. 3. On that note, I can only see one rank of Unarmed Combat Specialisation, giving +6 Base, +8 Unarmed Attack. I presume you wanted two? 4. Also on that theme, the Feats as they stand up to 17. I presume you wanted Unarmed Combat Specialisation 2 not 1. The last point? I am guessing Progression on the Minions? The issue here is that Progression on Minions requires that the minions be broadly the same. Agents, Animals, Zombies, etc - although minor things like skills and attributes can be different. Precisely where you draw the line is a little difficult and I think you are close to it: my concern is that the two minions (Nikki and Camera) have different (although similar) powers which makes it a little closer to the edge. Comments? NB: Made one or two changes for syntax etc.

Supercape Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Ok, so i really feel like a dick about this, but this is why it needs a major rejigger... Nikki needs to be the main character, as the summoner. The summoned entity cannot have more PP than the summoner (see house rules). So this means quite a rejig, I am afraid. I'm not saying you can't use the original idea, but it does mean that Merge Trios is around all the time, and won't come when "summoned" if she is far away. what I would suggest is bumping up Nikki with a load of utility powers, and then a Summon power. You could move some of Merges powers to Nicky, who has them with the effects others (+0) power, or gets them as a boost.

Nicki is meant to be the main character, I just left in the second slot because a) I'm lazy b)I thought people (well me at least) would mostly be using Merge. So that's my bad. So just to check the summoned must be less than the original character? So I either reduce Merge down a PL 9, or raise Nicki up to a PL11.
Supercape Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 Ok from House Rules: Summon (Animate Object, Duplication, Gestalt, Machine Animation, etc.): A Minion/Sidekick, whether purchased with feats or Summoned, cannot have a PP total higher than the hero. If the character concept involves a "minion" in service to a less powerful entity, then the more powerful "minion" is the Hero, and the "boss" is purchased as a Minion/Sidekick. Summon may have its Duration bought up to Continuous, but Summon may not have the +Independent extra. The +Heroic extra is allowed, but only if it applies to ONE Summoned being. In addition, it is a taken (from UP I think) that the Summoned creature (just like Minion or Sidekick) can not be higher than the default character. So, you could have a PL 10/PP 150 Nikki with the Summon 10 Power (Summoning up a PP 150 Entity). Whatever level of summon Nikki gets, the summoned entity would be PL 10 tops. I would think you would have to buy the heroic extra for the summoned entity (Merge). Also, you would probably want to consider the fanatical extra - its not necessary, but without it, Merge would run / flee etc if the going got too hard, and Merge could even have things like diplomacy used on her to flip her. Helpful is what summoned entities are summoned as: they will fight, aid, and generally obey, but wont die for you! For Nikki's brother (Camera Obscura), he could remain a minion. As you can only have two heroic "characters", a minion he would remain. Ill say this though, its a really interesting character. Are you sure you just want her as an NPC?

As for the NPC thing I've had the same thought's myself. But I'm at least a couple of month from a spare character slot, and it would nice to set up her villianry before she goes straight... Is there anything stopping a NPC being promoted to a PC?

As long as you have a spare slot, it fits the PP/PL criteria, and said NPC hasn't gone all ganster evil rapper (or at least, you can't convincingly tell a story to redeem), then I don't see why not!
