Player Name: Maxine Walters

Character Name: Mens Rea

Power Level: 12

Trade-Offs: None

In Brief: Your memories are betraying you. Aren't you proud of yourself?

Alternate Identity: Cindy Hane (former possessor of the body), Halxofyq'ta'maswx (true name), Lord of Twisted Memories, Lord of Forgetfulness, Lord of Mental Slip-Ups (titles)

Identity: Secret (no one knows Cindy is a burnout shell and that a demon lord is possessing her)

Birthplace: Hell

Occupation: Demon Lord

Affiliations: Hell

Family: Too long to list

Description:

Age: Ancient

Apparent Age: early twenties (at the moment)

Ethnicity: Half-Japanese Half Caucasian (at the moment)

Weight: 100 pounds (at the moment)

The body Halxofyq'ta'maswx inhabits is one Cindy Hane. Cindy was a short girl with an hourglass figure that was mostly paid for and very well put together. She had a pixie style haircut. Her eyes were very vibrant. Her wardrobe consisted what was ever popular at the time.

When Halxofyq'ta'maswx took her body she remained the same, but it removed Cindy from her former life. The once striking image now looks disheveled and chaotic. She/It has some followers but no one thinks Cindy is Cindy whenever she appears.

Power Descriptions: Subtle manipulations of the min. That's all. Or is it? No one's actually "felt" what Halxofyq'ta'maswx's power feels like. They are overloaded with bad and or changed memories.

History: This is a tale of two people. One a selfish girl who got everything she wanted. The other of a demon lord who worked for everything it got.

Cindy Hane was born rich. That wasn't the problem at all. The problem was that Cindy was never told "No". Cindy got what she wanted. She was a spoiled rotten child and a hellion on top of it. You could basically buy her attention if you had something she wanted. If her manipulative ways didn't work then she'd most likely have a fit in some manner. She was not a very nice person to be around when she had her fits. Everyone paid for it.

Unfortunately, Cindy's last fit would be the "end" of her. She was interested in occult lore at the time and wanted a personal pet demon. She couldn't find anyone who wanted to participate in her ritual. So she did it herself. Not knowing what half the things she was supposed to be doing she went through the motions angry. What was supposed to be an obedient demon servant turned out to be Halxofyq'ta'maswx. The demon lord looked into her soul and saw a perfect host body for this trip to the mortal realm. Halxofyq'ta'maswx eliminated every bit of Cindy metaphysically. The only thing that was left were Cindy's body... and her memories. Halxofyq'ta'maswx was in total control of her now.

Halxofyq'ta'maswx's story is a bit simpler. It started out as a lowly servant demon, through power plays and manipulative subterfuge it wracked up title after title, leaving a bloody swath across the hellish landscape. And then it was summoned to the mortal realm.

Personality & Motivation: Halxofyq'ta'maswx's motivation is to make people miserable. It's in it's job description. It also has a love for power in it's own realm. It usurped the former lord of twisted memories qute handily and fights tooth and nail to keep every title it has.

Powers & Tactics: Halxofyq'ta'maswx is not a type of foe you fight bare knuckle in the middle of the street. It is a sneaky manipulator, preferring to stalk it's prey a while before it slips in unnoticed to start tormenting. While Halxofyq'ta'maswx will mostly focus on one person at a time it's been known to take on a group of weaker-willed people. If it comes down to a straight out fight, Halxofyq'ta'maswx will latch on to the the foe's soul and regress it to heap of pity and self-loathing. Halxofyq'ta'maswx will not kill mortals, keeping them alive means their something to play with later on. Only when Halxofyq'ta'maswx knows it's fighting a fatal battle will it return the favor. An eye for an eye, as they say.

A good sheet. Grim backstory, but one wouldn't expect a demon lord to have a cute and cuddly visit to Earth. My only advice is to come up with a memorable shortened version of the name, or perhaps a terrible title of diabolical rank and satanic majesty that he may go by on Earth. The Dark Prince of Tears! The Duke of Regret, etc. Or just something along the lines of Abbadon, Lucifer, Satan, Mephisto, Donny and Marie, etc.

Halxofyq'ta'maswx may be on his driver's license, but it's way too long and awkward for heroes to yell in rage.

In the meantime,

Alright, changed the name. While "mens rea" is a court term, i'm going for the literal meaning "guilty mind", which (i think) is fitting for a demon that messes with your memories. Halxofyq'ta'maswx is now it's true name.

I echo AA's fluff assessment - brr! But befitting a creepy mind-remolding demon. Just make sure he's played carefully.

33pp of skills is 132R - not a big deal since it's an NPC, but you have two more ranks you could throw in if you wanted (language, maybe, if nothing else - what does it speak when its Communication power is shut off, if anything? Any weird little skills you feel like giving it?).

If Flight has an AP, please note the Alternate Power feat in Flight itself. Looks like you have the cost correct up in the Powers summary, but it taks a minute to see what you're doing with that array.

Also note that your Super-Movement power pair is cheaper than you have written - the first power costs 3pp (2pp base + 1pp/rank extra), and the second costs 5pp (2pp base + 2pp/rank extras + 1pp feat, assuming you meant Progression [Portal, 10'] and not Progression 10 [portal]), total 8pp.

What, thematically, is Detect Memories representing? Reading memories seems more like the Mind Probe application of Mind Reading, though other refs may want to weigh in on whether or not they think Detect can be used like that.

Per the house-ruled descriptor frequency list, 'Holy' is an Uncommon descriptor, rather than a Common one, for the sake of this character's Drawbacks.

I really didn't want to give it languages other than it's native tongue, but maybe it picked up English and Latin from Cindy's memories. Either way you don't want to hear it talk in it's true voice.

Changed the Flight and Drawbacks as you said.

The Portal extra is +2, which would make the math (2+1=3) + (2+1+2+1=6) = 9

Detecting Memories isn't reading them, it's detecting the holder of the memory. Sort of like you looking at the can of food and not knowing what's inside until you open it up and taste it.
